Ricardo Martins Valle 16 April 2010 (has links)
In order to read poems about Brazilian subjects in the XVIII century, this thesis crosses somewhat unsystematic sources of doctrine and officii representations implicated in the epic imitation and revealed as institutional determinations of illustrious matter. In the Iberian Catholic regiments, armed men from wealthy families and the distinguished heritage strive for family legacy in different ways, such as careers in Law and in the Arms, lands whose hinterland was occupied on behalf of His Highness and the pacts network wich are supposed to be in compliance with the Royal Family. In this sense, heroic poetry, files and registries of notes, disputationes metaphysicas, historical reports, Portuguese decadas, etc, are discursive series within obedience distribution systems, because they are documents, monuments, production of evidences and attestations according to the Law processes. The main purpose of this thesis is the European war in the occupation of all the horizons, with its reproductible models of institutional establishment on appropriations of doctrine, changes in the school curricula, in jurisprudence, in epic poetry, in pastoral poems, etc. Thus, from the principles of doctrine to the narration of exemplar cases, the verification of the Truth and all trustful private things endow with true reasons for verosimilis subject sung in the epic poems. By the means of law, jurisprudence, metaphysical principles, the institutional machinery constitutes and codifies the discorse about the "conquest of the America process" or the "history of the Portuguese domain in Brazil" that such poems and histories report. Assuming that war is everywhere, and the officii also, many different jurisdictions are reported mainly because they authorize themselves mutually. But they are cited in an incomplete manner just to indicate the branches of the senses and they try to cross them momentarily with other res, among many genera and species of things, different traditions of doctrine and the parties discussions. In the studied texts in diverse lessons, the focus in this thesis covers the matter, as res inventionis, and some mechanisms for verifying the truth of the rhetoric matter.

The objetive of the research is to improve the church's action towards the social challenges in the region that precedes and comes upon the Second Vatican Council where the eclesiological conception approaches the catholicism in the contemporary world. The militar civil coup caused by unstable politics and the need of structural reform in the country during this period. The Catholic Church presence in Bishop Jorge Marcos de Oliveira and Bishop Cláudio Hummes's pastoral action, both of them were diocesan bishops of Santo André in the period and contributed to the reflection about the interpretation of the relations between temporal and spiritual power in an institucional transformation period. The conception of revolution developed by Hannah Arendt will help with the dissertation verification of main hypothesis, examining the conception of mission of the catholic religion in the ABC region in social transformation (working class moviment and dictatorial governement) and with their own identity formation / O presente texto, dissertação de mestrado acadêmico em Teologia, trata das relações entre Igreja Católica e Sociedade na região do ABC Paulista entre 1964 a 1985.

Depicting Affect through Text, Music, and Gesture in Venetian Opera, c. 1640-1658

Hagen, Emily 05 1900 (has links)
Although early Venetian operas by composers such as Claudio Monteverdi and Francesco Cavalli offer today's listeners profound moments of emotion, the complex codes of meaning connecting emotion (or affect) with music in this repertoire are different from those of later seventeenth-century operatic repertoire. The specific textual and musical markers that librettists and composers used to indicate individual emotions in these operas were historically and culturally contingent, and many scholars thus consider them to be inaccessible to listeners today. This dissertation demonstrates a new analytical framework that is designed to identify the specific combinations of elements that communicate each lifelike emotion in this repertoire. Re-establishing the codes that govern the relationship between text, musical sound, and affect in this repertoire illuminates the nuanced emotional language of operas by composers such as Claudio Monteverdi, Francesco Cavalli, Antonio Cesti, and Francesco Lucio. The new analytical framework that underlies this study derives from analysis of seventeenth-century Venetian explanations and depictions of emotional processes, which reveal a basis in their society's underlying Aristotelian philosophy. Chapters III and IV examine extant documents from opera librettists, composers, audience members, and their associates to reveal how they understood emotions to work in the mind and body. These authors, many of whom were educated by Aristotelian scholars at the nearby University of Padua, understood action and emotion to be bound together in a reciprocal, causal relationship, and this synthesis was reflected in the way that they depicted affect in opera. It also guided the ways that singer-actors performed and audiences interpreted this music. In contrast, post-1660 Baroque operas from France and Italy express affect according to the musical conventions of the Doctrine of Affections (based in the ideas of René Descartes) and aim to present a single, clear emotion for each large semantic unit (recitative or aria). This paradigm does not hold true for operas composed before 1660; thus, this vibrant repertoire requires a new analytical approach that respects its pre-Cartesian musical aesthetics. Early Venetian opera composers express not just one, but many affects in each semantic unit. In their operas, musical sound interacts directly with text and dramatic action on a line-by-line basis to produce an unprecedented fluidity of emotional meaning. Chapter II describes a new analytical framework based in this understanding to reveal the means that librettists, composers, and performers used to communicate emotion in this repertoire. Chapters V through X contain hermeneutic and musical analyses (according to the method described in Chapter II) of case studies drawn from Venetian operas performed between 1640 and 1658. These chapters illustrate how this repertoire uses a flexible but well-defined system of musical and textual markers to convey characters' emotions. This new approach unlocks an aesthetic system that privileges the fluid, real-time emotional reactions of the individual in accordance with Aristotelian emotional understanding. In Chapters XI and XII, supporting information gleaned from seventeenth-century acting treatises, reception documents, and conduct books enables an examination of the singer's role in depicting these textual and musical representations of affect in performance. These two chapters address seventeenth-century views on affective communication through voice acting and physical gesture, together with recommendations for today's singers who perform this repertoire. In taking a systematic approach to the identification of specific textual, musical, and gestural means for communicating affect in early Venetian opera, this dissertation offers a new approach to analyzing and performing its dynamic emotional content.

Sartorelli, Cesar Augusto 25 November 2005 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-25T19:20:27Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 CesarSartorelli.pdf: 82712403 bytes, checksum: 53117bf040d047558c5f13fe79e7bff9 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2005-11-25 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Overall this sciences of religions essay is about architecture and art, but mainly its object is to treat specifically the fields wich refer to both the construction of religious spaces, and the hole art contained inside them and rised from them as well. These fields encircle painting, sculpture and, in addition, furniture and special pieces designed for the indoor spaces. More specifically, this essay also builts and reports its reflections based on the contemporary christian artwork and architectural spaces, produced and projected by artist and vernacular architect Claudio Pastro. The analysis in this essay approaches Pastro's biography through his unique process of working and criating, as a painter, pictorial artist, architect and sacred art expert. The second chapter explores Pastro's conceptions between sacred art and religious art, which are indeed different: each conception is clearly refeared, explained, discussed, compared to the other ones, and looked over through the eyes of Mircea Eliade's and Rudolf Otto's fenomenology. Still in the field of the Teology of the Art, the thinking of Romano Guardini about the sacred and the religious is also shown. In the third chapter we have a timeline brief of the history of art and sacred architecture, the bases of Pastro's work; then, a comparative study between his conception about the modern project related to the architecture and the vanguard arts. We also comment some brazilian architects projects, wich he admire and influenced him. Furthermore we comment the II Council of the Vatican and its propositions of liturgical renewal, wich led to the renew of sacred architeture and art, home of Pastro's realm of inspiration and concepts. We end with the analysis and critical reviewing of nine of his chapels and churches already built. In the conclusion, we comment the repercussion of Claudio Pastro's works, and the importance of his figure within the brazilian artistic and architectural panorama, as well as the concerns and limits of his concepts. Alongside with these questions, we leave to open minds some other further questions to be treated, about the relationships between art and religion, and art and the sacred.
