“Premium services will be offered by a cup of coffee” which is a relatively new business model in Taiwan. Thanks to the internet booming in recent years, it becomes less and less difficult for people to create new businesses; which leads to co-working spaces largely increasing their numbers in the world, especially in the U.S.A. and in Europe. It has become a global trend where people go to work and go to socialize. However, there are few co-working spaces existing in Asia, especially in Taiwan; their spaces are not cheap or one has to pay membership fee.
You may or may not ever hear about the “Garage Café” in Beijing which is currently running a very successful business. It offers a low cost but high efficiency work space to entrepreneurs, start-up companies and many young people who have dreams of doing business. Our ideal is to introduce this type of business model in Taiwan; our goal is not aimed to make big profits but to bring a lot of business opportunities to boost the Taiwanese economy and to lead Taiwanese products to global markets.

This study aims to explore future forms of work and their connection to innovation capabilities. Moreover, to deep-dive into how the gig-economy might evolve through business model innovation within knowledge-intense professions. The gig-economy as a phenomenon is relatively new and previous research is limited. Due to the limited amount of research, it’s safe to assume that the gig-economy still is in an early developing phase and that possible business model development therefore is valuable to predict. The method for this study is a forecast analysis where data from 21 respondents have been collected as well as secondary sources such as newspapers, media, webbinairs and reports. Through thematic analysis of the collected data the study predicts seven upcoming and current trends. These trends lay the groundwork for a scenario prediction resulting in four potential futures for the gig-economy: The public opinion rules, The individual rules, The business giants’ rules and The niche businesses rules. The study finds that the gig-economy has a natural place in the future of work and that it can contain elements which fosters innovation capabilities, partly through open innovation and sharing of competences and knowledge. / Denna studie ämnar undersöka framtidens arbetsformer och hur dessa kan främja innovation. Dessutom djupdyker studien i hur gig-ekonomi kan komma att utvecklas genom affärsmodellsinnovation för kunskapsintensiva yrkesgrupper. Gig-ekonomi är ett relativt nytt fenomen och tidigare forskning på området är begränsat. På grund av arbetsformens unga ålder finns det anledning att tro att vi är i en tidig fas av denna affärsmodell och att det kan finnas ett värde i att undersöka hur en förväntad utveckling kommer se ut. Studien har omvärldsanalys som huvudsaklig metod där data från 21 respondenter samlats in tillsammans med sekundärdata från tidningar, medier, webbinarier och rapporter. Genom tematiska analyser framkommer sju aktuella trender. Dessa trender ligger till grund för ett scenariokors med fyra potentiella framtidsscenarion för gig-ekonomin, opinionen styr, individen styr, företagsjättarna styr och nischade företag styr. Slutsatsen mynnar ut i att gig-ekonomi har en självklar del i framtidens arbetssätt och att gig-ekonomi innehåller element som kan främja innovation, inte minst genom open innovation och delande av kompetens och kunskap.

This diploma thesis deals with the phenomenon of shared economy and describes it both on a wide scale and in specific sectors of its use in the social and health sphere. This trend inspired the introduction of a co-working concept to the market which is also described in the theoretical part of the thesis. The theoretical framework of the diploma thesis follows the practical part consisting of interviews with the founder of a co-working centre in Finland, with the executive director of a co-working centre in the Czech Republic, and with two users who have experience with this service in our country and abroad. Qualitative data from semi- structured interviews was a source in the creation of a business plan for the co-working centre, which is the aim of the diploma thesis. At the end of the diploma thesis, there is a shortened methodological guideline for establishing a co-working space. This study is a bachelor thesis in the field of Information design with focus on Spatial design. The purpose of the study has been to investigate whether methods and theories in information design can be applied to develop an activity-based outdoor office, where activity-based zones promote and orientable environment such as communicate and inform activities and function. This with the help of spatial elements and its location. The study includes methodological work that includes a physical room analysis: site analysis, observation and notation analysis, semi-structured interview, one survey and workshops as well as test and evaluate the design. The methods are implemented to explore whether the site's design today communicates an activation-based outdoor office and investigate which spatial elements can be applied to different activity zones, to clarify the site's activities and functions. The methodological work thus examined what different spatial elements communicate for activity and why it does so. The study also finds out about the need for different activity zones and users' attitudes towards office work, in the outdoor environment. Based on the theory combined with collected data and empirical data, a design proposal for the development of co-working has been developed. The focus has been on spatial elements that inform and organize the place according to different activities. This benefits the orientability and understanding of the place, at the same time as office work in an outdoor environment contributes to a good work environment that promotes health.

Work on track! : A train interior design concept to meet contemporary work trends and needsAbaitua Knight, Alicia M January 2023 (has links)
In a future vision for rail travel, trains will be designed as an activity-based whole space, with different areas for various activities, such as relaxing, socialising or family bonding. My degree project, in collaboration with SJ, proposes a concept carriage dedicated to work, analogous to spending a day at a mobile coworking space. By recognising the new ways of working, this carriage will cater for the needs of different individuals and various types of work and will include private digital meeting spaces, group compartments, collaborative open spaces and cocoon-like seating options in quiet areas. Unlike other modes of transportation, trains allow for passengers to navigate and experience different spaces. By enhancing the use of space and incorporating amenities that improve the user experience, I aim to transform the perception of long train journeys from tedious to exciting and allow a more seamless and efficient way of getting work done while travelling. Ultimately, this degree project encourages sustainable travel through user-centred design.

Collaborative Innovation: A shared discourse within Phnom Penh’s co-working community?Pearce-Neudorf, Justin January 2014 (has links)
This paper explores the existence of a shared community involving the members, users and organisers of three collaborative work spaces located in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Situated as part of an emergent global phenomenon, these spaces, despite having notable differences, share many important features and are, I argue, part of a knowledge exchanging cluster of grassroots entrepreneurialism and innovation-oriented organisations, groups and events in the Phnom Penh area. I explore this cluster as a community in two ways: firstly through the mapping of a knowledge architecture locating the spaces and their actors as nodes within a flow of relationships and activities, secondly, via a networked ethnographic inquiry tracing these flows to actors within the network through qualitative research methods. In doing so I reveal the degree to which there exists a shared community perceived by the users and organisers of these spaces as well highlighting potential opportunities for greater sharing of knowledge, ideas and experience. The paper finds that though a nascent community does exist, there is still significant variance in the levels of cognisance of this community by the different actors as well as in the approach to its engagement. Despite this, there remains, in large part, a shared set of goals and values paving the way for future community collaboration.

Revenue Management Applicability on Coworking Space : Operator Perspective / Tillämpning av intäktsoptimeringssystem på coworking verksamheterMagne, Sofie, Stenswed, Jacob January 2019 (has links)
This thesis explores the potential use and implementation of a revenuemanagement model for coworking operators. With a critical realism philosophyand abductive approach, a quantitative study using primary data from a coworkingoperator has been conducted. Based on a comprehensive literature review, wehave found that much research is done on revenue management in the airline andhotel industries. However, we found no research on revenue management modelsthat intend to optimize revenue for coworking operations. Hence, this thesis aimsto fill this gap in existing academic research. Features from revenue managementmodels used in the hotel and airline industries are identified and analyzed with theobjective of implementing these in the coworking industry to efficiently maximizerevenue. The paper proposes the use of multinomial logit (MNL) model in theprocess of market segmentation; this method allows one to determine whichfactors influence the different segments. Moreover, the MNL model is used todefine the demand function from which a probability (probable?) distributionof total demand can be separated into demands representing each product class.Furthermore, the demand is used to calculate protection limits according to theExpected Marginal Seat Revenue (EMSR) model, with the objective of allocatingcapacity to the highest-yielding customers.Results indicate that the MNL regression is an effective tool to analyze themarket segmentation and demand allocation for coworking operators. Afterour successful analysis, we are prepared to argue with confidence that revenuemanagement models are applicable to coworking operations. / I denna uppsats undersöker vi den potentiella användningen och genomförandetav intäktsoptimeringsmodeller för coworking operatörer. En kvantitativ studiemed primär data från en coworking operatör har genomförts med en kritiskrealismfilosofi och ett abduktivt tillvägagångssätt. Det finns mycket forskningkring intäktsoptimering, framför allt inom flyg- och hotellbranschen, men ingensom behandlar intäktsoptimeringsmodeller med avseendepå coworking operatörer. Denna masteruppsats syftar till att bidra med kunskapför att fylla gapet kring revenue management för coworkingkontor, som saknas ibefintlig, svensk akademisk forskning idag.Vitala funktioner som utgör intäktoptimeringsmodeller ämnade för hotellochflygindustrin har identifierats och analyserats med målet att utforskamöjlig implementering för coworkingoperatörer. I uppsatsen genomförsen marknadssegmentering med hjälp av en multinomial regressionsanalys.Vidare görs en multinomial regressionsanalys med samtliga produktklasser somberoende variabler, för att få ut sannolikhetsfördelningen för vilka produkter somefterfrågas av den totala efterfrågan. Resultatet kan användas för att optimeratotala intäkterna genom att beräkna hur många platser som bör reserveras åthögt avkastande kunder, och hur många som kan hyras ut i tidigt skede. Förändamålet har vi tillämpat den så kallade Expected Marginal Seat Revenuemetoden, EMSR.Resultatet indikerar att multinomial logistisk regression är ett effektivt sätt attanalysera marknadssegment och styra efterfrågan till önskad produktklass. Samtatt användandet av rekommenderad revenue management modell är applicerbarpå coworking verksamheter.
