Bessa, Lucas Veloso Teixeira January 2018 (has links)
Mestre

Its treatment involves surgery, radiotherapy (RT) and, in more advanced cases, the concomitance use of chemotherapy (CRT) with survival gains of 15-27%, well described since the end of the 20th century. The objective of this retrospective study is to evaluate the acute toxicity of patients with cervical cancer who underwent RT and CRT during the year 2016 at Hospital Amaral Carvalho de Jaú - SP. Of 86 patients with a mean age of 50 (range 22-85), the RT arm had 25 patients, and the CRT 61 patients. Nine six percent of the RT group completed the treatment and 93% of the CRT, and only 73.41% of the CRT group received all the treatment as planned. Acute toxicity affected 73% of patients, 47% with only one symptom and 27% with two or more. Only 14,3% of the events were of severe toxicity, grades III and IV, all in CRT group. The most frequent toxicity was cystitis (38% RQT Vs 32% RT), followed by diarrhea (23% RQT Vs 16% RT) and vomiting (16% RQT Vs 8% RT). No pause was recorded as a result of toxicity. The treatment of radiochemotherapy has more acute toxicity than isolated radiotherapy, but all are reversible and do not contraindicate it.

Raquel Simões Oliveira Franco 27 March 2009 (has links)
The leachate of municipal solid wastes landfills have a pollution potential that requires attention from public authorities, from universities, and private sector. Researches to leachate treatment considering its volume variation and organic charge has been developing in many places. Besides the efectiveness the researches have to conidered economic aspects. The combined biological treatment of leachate in sewage treatment plants seems to be a viable alternative. This work evaluated the combined treatment of leachate and sewage in a pilot scale plant of activated sludge, installed in the sewage treatment plant of Icaraí/Niterói (RJ). The study was developed with percentages of leachate from 0,5 to 2,5% in relation of sewage (volume/volume). In terms of COD load, the percentages were of 1,9 to 8,7% of load equivalent to added leachate. In the pilot scale the results showed an average COD reduction of 73%, with some results above 90%. Average values of remaining COD in the effluent of the pilot scalet varied from 43 to 134 mg/L. As regards the average removals of ammonia nitrogen, values from 80 to 97%. The reduction of organic matter in terms of DOC was 73%. Aerobic bench scale reactors were also run in order to evaluate possible interference in the development of biological sludge. Batch and continuous reactors were operated. The reactors did not indicate damage to biological sludge due to the adding of leachate in percentages of 0,5 to 2,5%. COD reductions above 80% were observed. The removals of ammonia nitrogen were higher in batch reactor (>80%). The obtained results demonstrate the technical feasibility of combined treatment and did not indicate negative interference for COD reduction, with the leachate rate utilized. Throughout the operation period of the pilot plant problems with sludge sedimentation were observed, but it seems interfere very few in the treatment performance.

Remoção biológica de nitrogênio utilizando biofiltro aerado submerso multi-estágio

Della Giustina, Saulo Varela January 2009 (has links)
This work was based on the conception and operation of a combined anaerobic-aerobic system, consisting of an UASB reactor and a Multi-stage Biological Aerated Filter (BAF) (anaerobic-aerobic-anoxic) in pilot-scale and applied to the treatment of sanitary wastewater. Three different biofilter’s media were tested, namely “lids and bottlenecks of PET bottles” (160m²/m³), gravel no4 (40m²/m³) and Pall rings (130m²/m³), called BAF 1, 2 and 3, respectively. The experimental work was divided in two phases, comprising 6 experimental stages: The 1st phase was carried out to evaluate the effect of Hydraulic Retention Time (4, 8 and 12h) upon the removal of organic carbon and the attainment of nitrification. The 2nd phase evaluated different strategies to promote denitrification by using internal carbon source present in the UASB’s effluent (4th stage); by dosing external carbon source (Sodium Acetate) on the influent to the BAS aiming pre-denitrification (5th stage); and dosing external carbon (Sodium Acetate) at the inlet of the anoxic chamber aiming the post-denitrification (6th stage). Two RBC systems, filled with “lids and bottlenecks of PET bottles” (RBC 1) and Pall rings with 1'' diameter (RBC 2) were operated in parallel with the BAFs, adjusting the influent flow to obtain Hydraulic Retention Time (HRT) of 1,75; 3,5 and 5,25h. These values corresponded to the HRT of the aerobic chambers of the BAFs. The applied organic loading rates varied between 0,27 and 1,19 kgCODt/m³.d for the BAS and between 0,63 – 2,72 kgCODt/m³.d for the RBC. The systems efficiencies (UASB+BAF and UASB+RBC) had surpassed 90% in terms of total COD for BAF 1 and 3 and for RBC 1 and 2 (considering decanted COD for RBC systems). The employed conformation of BAF, when using high void index media (lids and bottlenecks, Pall rings), allowed high SS removals (Cefl 30mgSS/L), making unnecessary the use of a secondary clarifier. The development of combined nitrification and organic carbon removal limited the nitrification rates and had demanded high HRT for the BAFs. The nitrification in the RBC systems was above 90% for HRT=3,5h, whereas the BAF had required TDH=5,25h in aerobic chamber (total HRT=12h) and the use of internal recirculation for the attainment of similar results. Internal recirculation in the BAF improved nitrification, making possible the best superficial nitrification rates for the BAF, reaching 0,61; 1,29 and 0,70gN/m².d for BAF 1, 2 and 3 respectively. High relations C/N ( 5,0) had no detrimental effect upon the nitrification on the BAF and the RBC. Values of pH below 7,0 had not adversely influenced the nitrification of both BAF and RBC. However, the low values of effluent alkalinity may have limited the rate of nitrification on the biological reactors. Values of Dissolved Oxygen (DO) below 3,5 mgO2/L in the aerobic chamber of the BAF clearly inhibited the nitrification rate. The ammonia nitrogen oxidation to nitrate was the critical step of the overall biological process and, as a consequence, to total nitrogen removal. Average efficiencies of post-denitrification was above 90% (Nefl 4,5 mg TN/L), when dosing external carbon source (C/N=1,46 mol/mol) to BAF 1.

AlteraÃÃes fisiolÃgicas induzidas por estresses abiÃticos em plantas jovens de pinhÃo-manso / PHYSIOLOGICAL CHANGES INDUCED BY ABIOTIC STRESSES IN PHYSIC NUT YOUNG PLANTS

Evandro Nascimento da Silva 16 October 2009 (has links)
CoordenaÃÃo de AperfeiÃoamento de Pessoal de NÃvel Superior / In this work were studied diverse physiological mechanisms, as the osmotic adjustment, photosynthesis, including gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters, as well the oxidative responses in physic nuts submitted to different abiotic stresses as: salinity, drought and high temperature. The first experiment aimed to study the effects of increase of the NaCl concentrations (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 mM) in the ions accumulate (Na+, Cl- and K+) and some growth variables, as well evaluate the water state and the principals solutes (organic and inorganic) involved on the osmotic adjustment of physic nuts plants under this stressful condition. Physic nuts plants showed sensibility to salt stress, presenting a reduction by 50% in dry matter from by 47 mM of NaCl concentration during 15-d. This sensibility should be due the leaf Na+ and Cl- high accumulation, associated a strong reduction in the K+ concentration, induced by high Na+ content. On the other hand, physic nuts plants were able osmotic adjust to salinity due a severe decrease on the osmotic potential and increase of leaf water state, principally in the higher NaCl levels. Of the solutes studied, was observed that salt ions (Na+ and Cl-) contributed with the most of the osmotic adjustment, while that the K+ contribution was decreased strongly by NaCl. The glycinebetaine compared to proline was more important to the osmotic adjustment of physic nuts leaves, as in the absence as in presence of different NaCl levels in the nutrient solution. The second experiment evaluated the resistance of photosynthetic apparatus of physic nuts plants submitted to different time of exposure (7-d and 14-d of treatment and 3-d of recovery) to salt stress (100 mM of NaCl).The changes caused on photochemistry activity and leaf gas exchange were evaluate by Na+ and Cl- accumulation and decrease of K+/Na+ ratio in the leaves. After 7-d of treatment was observed a major action of osmotic effects. However, after 14-d of treatment, the ionic effects caused by Na+ and Cl- excessive accumulation and by K+/Na+ ratio strong reduction in the leaves, caused permanent damages on the photosynthesis of physic nuts plants due as the stomatal limitations as non-stomatal ones. The third experiment aimed to study the comparative effects between the salt stress (50 mM of NaCl) and water stress (induced for PEG 6000), both with osmotic potential of â0.22 MPa on the photosynthesis, water relations and growth of physic nuts plants. The water stress effects induced for PEG in the leaf growth, electrolyte leakage and leaf gas exchange were more deleterious than by NaCl ones. In the both stresses was observed decrease in the leaf CO2 assimilation due the stomatal and non-stomatal limitations. However, the chlorophyll fluorescence parameters did not affect. The fourth experiment aimed to evaluate the relative contribution of organic and inorganic solutes on the osmotic adjustment of leaves and roots physic nuts plants in different water restriction levels. Of the solutes studied, the K+ and soluble sugar were the most involved in the osmotic adjustment as in the leaves as in roots. Others solutes as, Na+, Cl-, total amino acids and glycibetaine, also presented a effective role in the reduction of osmotic potential in both organs. On the other hand, the leaf proline content, although has increased significantly, was not sufficient to promote an effective participation of this amino acid in the osmotic adjustment of physic nuts plants. The same experiment aimed to observe the isolated and combined effects of water stress and high temperature on the photosynthesis and evaluate the oxidative defenses system in physic nuts plants. The photosynthetic apparatus was more sensitive to water stress than heat ones, been that the combination of them caused deleterious effects yet large in this complex. Additionally, the oxidative damages also were more marked in the combined stress. In general, the data shown that physic nuts plants, although present ability to adjust osmotically to salinity and drought, have their photosynthetic apparatus very affected in this stressful conditions. / Susceptibility of cement pastes to sulfate attack - accelerated test method.

Rui Barbosa de Souza 03 February 2006 (has links)
The main point of this research is to propose a fast and effective method of evaluation of the cement reactivity to sulfate attack. Resistance to sulfate attack was measured by determining the combined sulfate in cement paste samples with exposure to Na2SO4 and MgSO4 solution, at high temperature (65°C). The samples of cement paste was triturated (powdered) in the proposed method. The results of combined SO3 showed that the Class G cement was little less susceptible to the sulfate attack because it has larger amount of Fe2O3. The ettringite formation was observed in the attack for both sulfate salts; and gypsum formation in the attack for MgSO4 (results of TG and XRD). The blended cement presented same results that the others, however when the Ca(OH)2 was totally consumed, it observed the decalcification of the C-S-H, by XRD.

Reator combinado anaeróbio-aeróbio de leito fixo para remoção de matéria orgânica e nitrogênio de água residuária de indústria produtora de lisina / Upflow anaerobic-aerobic combined fixed bed reactor for organic matter and nitrogen removal from lysine industry wastewater

Moacir Messias de Araújo Junior 21 July 2006 (has links)
O reator vertical de leito fixo, operando unicamente em condição anaeróbia, apresentou eficiências médias na remoção de DQO de 43 '+ OU -' 9%, 60 '+ OU -' 9% e 70 '+ OU -' 6%, respectivamente para TDH aplicados de 11 h, 17 h e 21 h / Most of the food industries, mainly the ones that use fermentative processes, generates effluent with high concentrations of organic matter and nutrients (nitrogen mainly), needing of complex systems for its treatment. In this direction, the present work was considered to develop a compact system that can operate as only unit of industrial wastewater treatment, in the removal of organic matter and nitrogen, with low consumption of energy and low sludge production. Therefore, the viability of the upflow anaerobic-aerobic combined fixed bed reactor for the treatment of industrial effluent with organic matter (1400 mg COD/l) and nitrogen (160 mg N/l) was evidenced. The best operational condition of the reactor was obtained applying 35 h of hydraulic retention time (21 h in the anaerobic zone and 14 h in the aerobic zone) and recycle ratio (R) of 3.5. In this condition, the COD, TKN and TN efficiencies removal were of 97%, 94% and 77%, respectively, with average effluent concentrations of 10 '+ OU -' 36 mg COD/l, 2 '+ OU -' 1 mg N-'NH IND.4'POT.+'/l, 8 '+ OU -' 3 mg N-org/l, 1 '+ OU -' 1 mg N-'NO IND.2'POT.-'/l and 26 '+ OU -' 23 mg N-'NO IND.3'POT.-'/l. The up-flow fixed bed reactor, operating only in anaerobic condition, presented average efficiencies in the COD removal of 43 '+ OU -' 9%, 60 '+ OU -' 9% and 70 '+ OU -' 6%, for HRT applied of 11 h, 17 h and 21 h, respectively

A study aiming maximizing the efficiency of an advanced combined power generation process has been developed. The process applies a pressurized fluidized bed boiler consuming sugar cane bagasse fed as slurry. The generated steam is diverted to a reheated Rankine cycle while the gas exiting the boiler is directed to a gas turbine process. Many assumptions have been taken, among them: the boiler design, the pressure inside its combustion chamber, the rate of fuel consumption, the pressure of produced steam, the gas turbine injection temperature and the temperature of gas exiting the whole plant. The parameters taken as variables were: the concentration of dry solid in the slurry, the mass flow of water pumped into the boiler tube banks and the rate or air injection into the boiler combustion chamber. The CeSFaMB© software has been applied for the boiler optimization, having the exergy efficiency as objective function. The software IPES has been used for the optimization of Rankine cycle, the gas turbine process and theirs combination. The achieved overall power generation efficiency was around 36 %. Having in mind that the efficiency found at present sugar-cane conventional processes are around 30%, the value arrived at this study is significant / Mestrado / Termica e Fluidos / Mestre em Engenharia Mecânica

Young Steindl, Ana María 19 June 2019 (has links)
The objective of this research was to analyze the similarities and differences in university students' engagement to the course and their academic performance when using the Blended Learning and Flipped Classroom models. To carry out the study, we used a multi-group quasiexperimental design with post-tests for only four weeks, in the development of a unit, in two sections of a course, in the same semester, taught by the same teacher. Thirty-four Education Faculty students participated, 17 in each schedule. The information was collected using a scale of commitment to the course and a report evaluating the unit. A quantitative analysis of the information was conducted. The results showed that the students of both groups had high levels of engagement to the course and that no significant differences were found between the groups in terms of performance or engagement. This could be due to the fact that active learning was used in both groups in the face-to-face sessions. / Tesis
