Herança da senescência retardada em milho / Inheritance of the delayed senescence trait in Maize

Emiliano Fernandes Nassau Costa 11 December 2007 (has links)
Information on the inheritance of traits to be selected is of paramount importance for the success of breeding programs. The trait delayed senescence, usually named \"stay-green\" trait, has been related to tolerance to abiotic stresses, mainly drought stress, in several crop species. Although the majority of commercial maize hybrids are \"stay-green\", limited information are available on its inheritance. Thus, this research was conducted to study the inheritance of the stay-green trait in tropical maize. The genetic material included 55 inbred lines from several sources to represent the genetic variation of tropical maize. Fifty inbred lines were crossed to 05 inbreds as testers following the partial diallel cross design, giving rise to 250 single crosses. The crosses and six commercial hybrids, 256 entries, were evaluated at eight environments using a 16 x 16 lattice design with two replications per environment. The stay-green trait was recorded 120 days after sowing, in five competitive plants per plot, following a visual note scale, i.e., from 1 to 5, where 1 refers to green plants and 5 to no-green plants. Also, the trait days to mid-silking was recorded and used as covariate to correct for differences of maturing among crosses. The analysis of variance of the diallel crosses was computed following the method 4 model 1 of Griffing (1956) extended to multiple environments. The general combining ability (GCA) for both the inbreds and the testers, and the specific combining ability (SCA) were all highly significant (P<=0.01), showing that GCA as well as SCA contribute significantly for the expression of the trait. However, the contribution of the GCA was 69.06% and of the SCA was 30.94% for the variation among the crosses, indicating that the additive effects, which are related to GCA, are more important than the non-additive effects (dominance and epistasis), which are related to SCA, for the variation of the crosses. Both GCA and SCA interacted significantly with the environments, showing that these parameters were not consistent across the environments. Thus, selection for the stay-green trait should be based on the means of experiments evaluated in several environments.

Estudo dialélico de componentes de rendimento e constituintes químicos do óleo essencial de manjericão (Ocimum basilicum L.) / A DIALLEL STUDY OF YIELD COMPONENTS AND CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL OIL OF BASIL (OCIMUM BASILICUM L.).

Rosa, Yvesmar Resende Santa 11 December 2010 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The aim of this work was to estimate the General and Specific Combining Ability of basil, analyzing yield components and the main chemical compounds of the essential oil. The experiment was conducted at the Research Farm "Campus Rural da UFS", located in the São Cristóvão county, Sergipe. Four cultivars with different chemical compositions were chosen to realize diallel crosses. The F1 seeds and the parents were planted in field using a complete randomized block design, with three replications. The data were submitted to the diallel analysis of Griffing model 2 and the means were grouped using the Scott-Knott test (p ≤ 0.05). The following characteristics were evaluated: plant height, crown diameter, length and width of leaves, dry weight of leaves, essential oil content and yield, and the content of the main chemical compounds. The analysis of variance for the combining ability showed that the General Combining Ability (GCA) effects presented significant differences and that the Special Combining Ability (SCA) effects of the crosses were significant, except for the length and width of leaves. For almost all characters both additive and non-additive effects influenced the performance of hybrids.

Channel Equalization and Spatial Diversity for Aeronautical Telemetry Applications

Williams, Ian E. 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2010 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Sixth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 25-28, 2010 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / This work explores aeronautical telemetry communication performance with the SOQPSK- TG ARTM waveforms when frequency-selective multipath corrupts received information symbols. A multi-antenna equalization scheme is presented where each antenna's unique multipath channel is equalized using a pilot-aided optimal linear minimum mean-square error filter. Following independent channel equalization, a maximal ratio combining technique is used to generate a single receiver output for detection. This multi-antenna equalization process is shown to improve detection performance over maximal ratio combining alone.

Metrics and Test Procedures for Data Quality Estimation in the Aeronautical Telemetry Channel

Hill, Terry 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2015 Conference Proceedings / The Fifty-First Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 26-29, 2015 / Bally's Hotel & Convention Center, Las Vegas, NV / There is great potential in using Best Source Selectors (BSS) to improve link availability in aeronautical telemetry applications. While the general notion that diverse data sources can be used to construct a consolidated stream of "better" data is well founded, there is no standardized means of determining the quality of the data streams being merged together. Absent this uniform quality data, the BSS has no analytically sound way of knowing which streams are better, or best. This problem is further exacerbated when one imagines that multiple vendors are developing data quality estimation schemes, with no standard definition of how to measure data quality. In this paper, we present measured performance for a specific Data Quality Metric (DQM) implementation, demonstrating that the signals present in the demodulator can be used to quickly and accurately measure the data quality, and we propose test methods for calibrating DQM over a wide variety of channel impairments. We also propose an efficient means of encapsulating this DQM information with the data, to simplify processing by the BSS. This work leads toward a potential standardization that would allow data quality estimators and best source selectors from multiple vendors to interoperate.

Novel BICM HARQ Algorithm Based on Adaptive Modulations

Kumar, Kuldeep, Perez-Ramirez, Javier 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2011 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Seventh Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 24-27, 2011 / Bally's Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Nevada / A novel type-II hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) algorithm using adaptive modulations and bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) is presented. The algorithm uses different optimized puncturing patterns for different transmissions of the same data packet. The proposed approach exploits mapping diversity through BICM with iterative decoding. The modulation order is changed in each transmission to keep the number of symbols transmitted constant. We present new bit error rate and frame error rate analytical results for the proposed technique showing good agreement with simulation results. We compare the throughput performance of our proposed HARQ technique with a reference HARQ technique that uses different mapping arrangements but keeps the modulation order fixed. By using optimized puncturing patterns and adaptive modulations, our method provides significantly better throughput performance over the reference HARQ method in the whole signalto- noise ratio (SNR) range, and achieves a gain of 12 dB in the medium SNR region.

Conception d’amplificateurs de puissance en technologie CMOS pour le standard LTE / Design of power amplifiers in CMOS technology for LTE applications

Mesquita, Fabien 30 May 2018 (has links)
The LTE standard has been intended for mobile communications. Focusingnot only on higher data rate, LTE now aims at an implementation for the Internetof Things (IoT). The main challenge, in the perspective of a LTE front-end fully manufacturedin a low-cost and high integration level CMOS technology, remains the design ofpower amplifiers (PA). Furthermore, the use of complex quadrature modulation resultsin stringent linearity requirements resulting in an important quiescent dc consumption. In this context, this work focuses on the research of devices and circuits generatinghigh output power and solving the compromise between linearity and consumption ofthe PA. Two strands of work are identified and developed in this thesis. The first oneuses a power transistor available in CMOS technology. Three power cells based on thisdevice are proposed, with detailed theoretical and experimental results. In the secondone, this transistor is then used in a fully-integrated CMOS PA. A design methodologyfor integrated transformers is also presented. The proposed fully-integrated PA is reconfigurablein order to address the main LTE challenges : output power, high linearity andlow consumption.

Estimativas de parâmetros genéticos e análise dialélica de cruzamentos de trigo (Triticum aestivum L.) envolvendo a cultivar BH-1146 e linhagens irradiadas / Estimates of genetic parameters and diallel analysis of wheat crossings (Triticum aestivum L.) with cultivar BH-1146 and irradiated strains

Lobato, Mary Túlia Vargas 29 July 2010 (has links)
Detectaram-se efeitos significativos da CEC e CGC, evidenciando a ação de genes preponderantemente aditiva e de dominância na manifestação dos na maioria dos caracteres estudados / Diallel crossing was made with four wheat genotypes: BH-1146, Anahuac M-1, IAC-287/IAC-24 M-1 and MONS/ALDS// IAC-24 M-3, bearing agronomically contrasting characteristics, to evaluate the potential of segregating populations of wheat obtained from parents bearing contrasting agronomic characteristics for primary root length, grain yield and agronomic characteristics; to estimate the herdability, in the broad and narrow senses, for F2 obtained populations in addition to the association of the traits under study; to confirm the more promising parents for use in wheat improvement programs and to estimate the general and specific combining abilities of wheat genotypes. Hybrid were obtained in F1 and F2 generation of RC1 and RC2 backcrossing, which were evaluated for their root length in nutrient solution, according to Camargos and Ferreira Filhos method (2005a). After root measuring, plantules were transplanted to screens of the IAC Center for Grain and Fibers in blocks at random, with 28 treatments (4 parents, the 6 F1s, the 6 F2s, the 6 RC1s and the 6 RC2s), with 6 repetitions. Characteristics such as primary root length, plant length, and spike length, number of spikelet per spike, grains per spike, grains per spikelet, 100 grain weight, length of the rachis internode heigth, number of spike per plant, grain yield per plant and flowering were evaluated. The Griffing Model (1956) was used for the diallel analysis. Herdability estimates were obtained. The herdability estimates in the broad sense for the six crossings were high for plant height in all of them; moderate, in most of the crossings for root growth, spike heigth, number of spikes per plant and grain per spike, grain yield per plant and flowering; were moderate to high for rachis internode height and the number of spikelet per spike and moderate to low for 100 grain weight per spikelet. These values indicated that a large part of the variability found was of genetic origin. Herdability estimates in the narrow sense showed large variability in magnitude in the different crossings for the studied traits. P1/P4 crossing with different parents showed high herdability in the narrow sense. High herdability values in the narrow sense were estimated for plant heigth in all crossings, indicating that the selection will be effective for the first segregating generations. Phenotype correlations showed a tendency for the selection of plants with larger heigth for the primary root being associated with a higher grain yield per plant and higher early flowering. BH-1146 proved to be a genetic source of tolerance to drought in the initial stage of the wheat breeding. Diallel analysis confirm the results of experiments with genotypes, showing high values in the combining ability of P4 genotypes as being the source of reduction of plant heigth, and P1 as source of the increase in root length; P1 and P2 were found with high values of gi for the production of grain. CEC and CGC, showed the action of genes of major aditive effects and prevalence of the traits studies

Reyes, Irais Dolores Pascual 02 August 2016 (has links)
The gherkin (Cucumis anguria L.) is a culture of great importance of in the North and Northeast of Brazil. However, most of the Brazilian production of this vegetable is obtained without the use of genotypes and appropriate technologies. The objectives of this study were phenotypic characterization local and commercial access of gherkin in the southern region of Tocantins, assess their capacity for action and the combination of genes. The experiment was conducted in a delineation of block design with three replications. The treatments were nine genotypes of gherkin and hybrids obtained in diallel crossings according to the methodology proposed by Gardner and Eberhart, totaling forty-five treatments. Fruits were collected of home gardens in the southern region of the state of Tocantins and also two commercial crops (Feltrin® e Topseed®), subsequently were multiplied the seeds of the fruits of the municipality of Gurupi and were made crosses. Were characterized nine genotypes with selections of their vegetative and reproductive parts, also its gene action was evaluated in relation to the estimates of effects of variety and heterosis and hybrids capacity combination and average variance of the fruits were evaluated for fruit diameter (mm), fruit length (mm), average fruit weight (g) and productivity (tonha-1). The vegetative characterization of the genotypes showed a slight separation between the genotypes, mainly at the characters related to the leaf size. In the reproductive traits, however, there was no separation between genotypes and cultivars. Some characters have a stronger correlation than others, such as the commercial cultivar Topseed ®, which differs from the other cultivars in PCA of vegetative characters. In the summary analysis of variation in the characteristics of fruit diameter, fruit length, fruit weight and fruit firmness were identified significant differences, whereas the characteristic productivity hadn't significant effects on the sources of variety, average heterosis and heterosis of variety. In the estimation of the effect of variety, diameter characteristics of the fruits (36.21); fruit length (45,29) and fruit weight (32,86) MAXGU#02 genotype was higher, and the feature of fruit firmness (133,80) and productivity (15,61) was the genotype MAXGU#01. The estimation of heterosis effect of variety, the characteristics fruit diameter (47,64); fruit length (80,43), average fruit weight (40.18), fruit firmness (100,36) and productivity (2,70) highlights the MAXGU#03 genotype. In the characteristics diameter, length and average weight of the fruits, additive effects predominated in their performance "per se". For firmness of pulp and peel and productivity predominate not additive effects.

Mesure interférométrique de phase et application à la combinaison cohérente d’un grand nombre de fibres amplificatrices / Interferometric phase measurement and its application for coherent fiber beam combining of a large number of amplifiers

Antier-Murgey, Marie 17 November 2014 (has links)
The intrinsic properties of optical fibers like robustness, efficiency, beam quality, compactness and good thermal management can now compete with solid state lasers to develop high power laser sources. The applications of such sources include industry (machining, marking), defense (telemetry, lidar), and fundamental research. In this case, high intensity lasers are compulsory to produce the next generation of particles accelerators more efficient and more compact, both for fundamental research and its direct applications such as proton therapy. This work was done in the context of the ICAN project, which studies the feasibility of such sources. To overcome the limitations in terms of power of a single amplified fiber, an idea is to use several fiber lasers and to combine them coherently. To reach the ultra-high peak power and high average power requirements for these applications, the coherent beam combining of 10,000 fiber amplifiers has to be envisaged. The goal of the work is to develop a scheme of phase control scalable to a high number of combined fibers. Two schemes based on an interferometric phase measurement are realized in this work. The fist scheme, based on digital holography, permits a collective phase measurement and correction without calculation. The second scheme is based on an active phase control with individual phase modulators. This control requires an image processing algorithm and has a bandwidth compatible with the phase spectral noise of the amplifiers. The coherent combining of 16 fibers at 1kHz with a residual phase shift error of λ/60rms is achieved in this case. We use this second scheme to evaluate its scalability. We show that the coherent combining of 10,000 fibers using off-the-shelf components is already possible.
