The weight of words, the clash of ideals: a critical analysis of Indicators of Sustainability criteria for the management of Organizational Communication.

Silva, Eduardo Augusto da 23 March 2011 (has links)
A new world order is demanding effectively differentiated postures, organizations from all sectors and spheres, accompanied by the growing surveillance society through mechanisms for evaluating their activities. In order to define ethical parameters have been and are being developed models of accountability of corporate activities. Through them, it is intended that the society and the market assume the role of Auditors of the process and transparency in social results achieved. Some of these mechanisms are increasingly propagated Indicators of Corporate Social responsibility and, more recently, indicators of sustainability, which seem to seek to respond more adequately to the expectations of a social conscience, very frightened with the present and the future of the planet. The overall objective of this research was to examine if Organizational Communication policies can use the main models and guides for the assessment of business actions as effective certification criteria in the areas of CSR and sustainability, without configuring equalitarian strategies to promote institutional image and marketing. The search method used in this work was the case study, the units of analysis were the models for evaluation of CSR and sustainability of greater relevance in the Brazilian scenario, whether they are: GRI-Global Reporting Initiative, Ethos and Guide the ISE corporate sustainability index BM & FBOVESPA. The technique of collecting data from this study was bibliographic search. Through the Comparability Model developed to analyze the indicators selected, the result was that none of them passed the test; all of them required adjustments to achieve its proper functionality. Thus, in determining Organizational Communication policy must take care to engage the whole organization towards fulfilling the prerogatives of models of evaluation of RSC and sustainability, because, besides the high cost that this can generate, and physical, structural efforts and personal, doesn\'t mean the effective convergence for undertaking socially responsible or sustainable [erroneously]. Soon, there is a risk of reductionism and impoverishment of the management of corporate communications that drive their actions in accordance with the results of indicators or indexes of RSC or sustainability. Depending on the diversity of types and variables and themes that sustainability involves, it seems dangerous to use reports for definition of quantum, synthesized in adjective for a select group of organizations. The margins to the subjectivity and judgments of values are perniciously open for unsuspecting verdicts of specialists.

The nature of participatory communication between stakeholders of the bhive university incubator / Jani Jooste

Jooste, Jani January 2014 (has links)
Within the field of development, participation has become the normative approach in the past two decades. For development projects to be sustainable, the communication must be participatory in nature. For development projects to be sustainable and to actually contribute to the development of communities, communication has to be based on the participatory approach of development communication. Dialogue, empowerment that leads to independence and cultural identity are some of the most important principles of the participatory approach. The importance of communication aimed at development first became apparent during the modernisation paradigm. Modernisation is considered an evolutionary shift from a traditional view to a modern society. Development is seen as synonymous with westernization, industrialization and economic growth. Universities are under pressure from both the government and the industry to help with economic development and deliver graduates that can make a positive difference in their field of expertise (Grimaldi & Grandi, 2005). A university business incubator (UBI) is a business incubator located within a university. University business incubators facilitate and develop conditions and support systems that ensure young entrepreneurs with new ventures will function successfully. Business incubators support these entrepreneurs by giving them access to affordable facilities and resources such as secretarial support and office furniture. The focus is on providing entrepreneurs with specialised support, training and assistance, including research and development, risk capital and networking opportunities (Lalkaka, 1990:25). A UBI uses the university‟s resources, personnel‟s time and knowledge toward economic development efforts, reaping the benefits from the commercialisation of the university‟s own research (Grimaldi & Grandi, 2005; Mian, 1997). The Netherlands Initiative for Capacity development in Higher Education (NICHE) launched a programme in South Africa in February 2009. BEEHIVE (Bridging Business and Education by Establishing a Hub of Innovative Ventures and Expertise) is the university incubator of the North-West University‟s (NWU) Vaal Triangle Campus, which started with the operational phase of the programme in May 2012. The name was changed in 2011 to Bhive for marketing purposes. Against this background, the following research question was investigated: to what extent is the communication between stakeholders of the Bhive UI participatory? The researcher used a qualitative research method in order to collect the data. A literature study was conducted to explore the premises of the nature of the participatory approach in development communication for social change. Interviews with different stakeholders were conducted to determine their perceptions regarding the Bhive UI. Lastly, the researcher observed the Bhive UI over a period of two years. The research findings reveal that within the larger paradigm of heteroglossia there is room for improvement. This study pointed out the various areas for improvement and offered theoretically grounded recommendations.

Lucí Ferraz de Mello 28 January 2011 (has links)
This dissertation is dedicated to the study of communication processes mediated by the e-moderator at distance education courses, through virtual learning environments that use various digital communication tools, to verify if this agent might be called educommunicator (educomunicador). We developed a review of some key recent theories of Distance Education emerged in countries like Canada, USA and UK, along these last 20-30 years, which underpin and consolidate practices of dialogical communication in these virtual spaces, built in processes linked to communication management, which are developed by the e-mentoring, so we could map indicators which were also common to the new educommunication practices. We have also analysed studies on distance education programs already implemented in France and Australia, that have this e-mentoring as one of the pillars of this context. In order to verify the possibility of rapprochement between Distance Education and Educommunication based on the practices of that education agent, we adopted the method of case study in conducting our field research near FGV Online Program. One of the conclusions reached was that the e-moderator may be called educomunicador according to dialogic communication and leadership traits of the students along with this virtual environments, since the program of distance education institution adopts the use of such practices and this agent attends a previous course on specific communicative practices focused on communication management and training of communication ecosystems.

Successful Project Management

Horning, Tomomi M. 01 January 2018 (has links)
High project failure rates result in billions of wasted dollars each year. Project failure does not discriminate by type of project or the industry from which they originate. The purpose of this qualitative single case study was to explore strategies that leaders at a health care organization located in Pennsylvania use to manage projects successfully. This population was selected due to the health care organization's reputation for successful project completion. The conceptual framework for this study was Fiedler's contingency theory. Data were collected by conducting semistructured interviews with 9 project leaders and reviewing project documents provided by study participants. Interviews were transcribed, thick descriptions were obtained, and participants were engaged in member checking. The thematic data analysis process consisted of compiling and coding data, identifying patterns, and organizing themes into relevant categories, iteratively. Findings were organized into 4 thematic categories, which were, essential strategies, relationship management, best practices, and self-attunement. Findings from this study may contribute to positive social change if health care leaders can use the information to enhance their project leadership capabilities. When project managers are successful, the benefits cascade to health care organizations. Leaders of those health care organizations can ensure that important health and wellness services are provided and available to those who need them, fund performance improvement initiatives, resource quality programs, and offer innovative services to improve health outcomes for individuals and communities.

Improving the information architecture at Boliden Group

Nyberg, Kristina January 2018 (has links)
Architects design physical structures to allow visitors to perform certain actions. The same idea can be applied to the digital landscape [18]. Physical architectural design of spaces for employees within the metals industry influence and improve productivity [14], whereas a suboptimal intranet design can cause decreased productivity in a digital landscape [20]. During an IT conference in June 2018, it was established that 75% of enterprise cloud-based system users consider the complexity of implementation or operations top obstacles to usage. Productivity, efficiency, and consideration for people are strategic values at Boliden Group AB [22], yet the internal Document Management System (DMS) indicated the opposite to be true. The DMS was thus analyzed using Information Architecture (IA) principles; context, content, and users [3], through a case study including (3) stakeholder and (1) expert interviews, an internal questionnaire with 631 respondents, external State-of-the-Art (SoA) analysis including sketch and (4) interviews and a final survey with 35 respondents. Results indicated inconclusive policies concerning education in Information Systems (IS); problematic DMS user interface (UI) and branding; IS restriction to Microsoft (MS) Office365 and a desire to use Sharepoint increasingly. The overall impression indicated desire to follow the strategy at Boliden Group AB, through well defined methods and goals, and focus on simplifying processes. The State-of-the-Art analysis identified success factors organization, emails, publishing, tools, and findability. Recommendations propose to leverage impressions particularly regarding strategy, UI and training. Improvements to the IA should be done following complementary user-focused research in two steps; Search-log analysis followed by Contextual inquiry. Applied improvements from the State-of-the-Art analysis were visualized in a sketch that can, collectively with future user insights, be used to inspire a developed Digital Workplace with Sharepoint UI and more intuitive document management for the common user, in order to provide simplifying recommendations for improved IAand productivity.

Business models for communication departments: a comprehensive approach to analyzing, explaining and innovating communication management in organizations

Zerfass, Ansgar, Link, Jeanne 20 November 2023 (has links)
Based on an interdisciplinary literature review, the authors propose the Communication Business Model (CBM) as a new management approach for corporate communications. To this end, pertinent definitions, frameworks and typologies of business models are analyzed and combined with insights from corporate communications literature. The CBM outlines the generic architecture of business models for communication departments. Such models describe the basic principle of how such a unit operates, what services and products it provides, how it creates value for an organization and what revenues and resources are allocated. Relevance: The question of whether and how communication departments contribute to organizational value creation has rarely been addressed in research. Such evidence is crucial, however, as communications competes internally with other functions (e.g. marketing and human resources) for budgets and staff. This article fills the gap by applying the business model concept, an established approach from management theory and practice, to communication units. Practical implications: The CBM can be used as a management tool to analyze, explain and innovate communication management in organizations. It is a fertile approach for communication practitioners to make the work of their department visible and to position themselves internally and externally.

Impact de l'insuffisance rénale chronique et de l'urémie sur la motilité et la perméabilité intestinale / Impact of chronic kidney disease and uremia on motility and intestinal permeability

Hoibian, Elsa 14 September 2018 (has links)
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) result from a progressive kidney dysfunction. CKD is associated with an increase in the concentration of uremic toxins inducing CKD-associated metabolic alterations. Our work focused on the impact of renal dysfunction on gut permeability and gut motility. In vivo, CKD was induced in mice by chemical nephrectomy (adenine-enriched diet); In vitro, Caco-2 cells were incubated for 24h with 10% (v/v) of uremic plasma to mimic the uremic environment. Gastrointestinal transit time, gut motility, intestinal permeability and expression of tight junction proteins were explored. In vivo, kidney failure was associated with an impaired gastrointestinal transit and an increased intestinal permeability associated with a dysregulation of tight junction proteins (mainly claudine-1 overexpression). The Caco-2 monolayer permeability was significantly increased in cell monolayers incubated with uremic plasma. Claudine-1 expression and abundance was increased. In CKD, gut motility and gut permeability (e.g. « leaky » gut) are significantly impaired. Generally speaking, these gut dysfunctions could promote the production and the absorption of uremic toxins contributing to the uremic syndrom.
