Discute o estatuto contemporâneo da Arte Pública e decorrentes hibridizações bem como do museu como espaço de investigação e interlocução artística, com base em ações e experiências processuais e colaborativas. Desenvolve procedimentos inspirados nas práticas museais, tendo os imaginários urbanos como território de análise, confi gurando novas arqueologias da memória urbana contemporânea. Do espetáculo à experiência da cidade, passa-se às diferenças entre visualidade e visibilidade, passa-se da cidade ao lugar. Opera-se uma distinção entre visualidade e visibilidade, entre recepção e percepção, entre comunicação e informação. Em todas essas diferenças se produzem metamorfoses do olhar. / Transdisciplinary research project focused on contemporary dialogic aproach based on art and public sphere. It discusses the role of contemporary Public Arte and current hybridizations as well as the museum as a research\'s space and artistic conversation. It develops procedures inspired on museum practices and it has the urban imaginaries as territories of analyses, confi gurating new archeologys of contemporary urban memory. From the spectacle to the city\'s experience, it pass through differences betwenn visuality and visibility, the city and the site. It operates a distinction between visuality and visibility, reception and perception, communication and information. In all those differences metamorphosys of the look are produced.

Participatory Art for Social Change? : A study of the quest for genuine participationGabriella, Johansson January 2020 (has links)
A number of theories suggest that participatory arts based approaches have the potential to contribute to development and social change. However, the nature of participation and participative approaches is multi-layered and complex, and critics have voiced concern for depicting participatory art initiatives in an oversimplified, uncriticised positivistic manner. The danger of such assumptions lay in the risk of manipulation, where non-genuine participation could contribute to the reinforcement of oppressive power structures and the dominating hegemony. This study explores the intersection of art, participation and development, and further aims to discuss the process of identifying the emancipatory possibilities and limitations of participatory art for development and social change. Using a combination of a constructivist case study approach and critical discourse analysis, two participatory art organisations are analysed with the intention to define each organisations’ understanding of the nature of participatory art, and further how this is reflected in the implementation of their work. The findings suggest that both organisations, to a certain degree, communicate an understanding of participation that reflect previous theories on genuine participation. Additionally, the findings suggest that this understanding is reflected in the practical work of the organisations.

Impacts Of An Artist Residency Program Informed By Social Action Art TherapyLo, Jessica Bui 01 April 2016 (has links)
This research explores the impact of a three day Artist Residency Program at a K-8th public school on a Native American Reservation. The program is evaluated through a lens of Social Action Art Therapy and aims to uncover how this program impacted a community— including teachers, students, and parents, and facilitators. The researcher examined social action literature, social action art literature, social action art therapy literature, as well as social action with Native Americans literature. The researcher used a qualitative approach, specifically an Inquisitive Case study, in which data was collected through the researchers notes. These notes then informed the creation of a survey that was given to teachers as well as the Artist Residency program facilitators. Next, the researcher conducted interviews for further examination of the impact. All the data was placed into an organizing table in which four main themes and three minor themes emerged. The resulting data themes include: 1) Art illuminated the students Native American Hoopa identity and culture, 2) art increased student participation, facilitated storytelling, and conversations about the student’s feelings and art provided a sense of agency, 3) art created and strengthened bonds among the students, teachers, parents and facilitators and facilitators were seen as role models for the students, and 4) the facilitator’s desire to be involved in similar art therapy social action projects increased as they were personally and professionally impacted by the Artist Residency Program. Three minor themes include: a) Some teachers found new ways to integrate art in their classroom, b) the foreign art medium choice increased risk taking, engagement, creativity as well as provided students with new skills, c) some changes noted, more time needed to see larger change. These themes were then examined in the context of art therapy social action literature and findings suggested positive impacts of the social action art therapy informed Artist Residency program.

A Qualitative Study of Adult Perspectives of Loyola Marymount’s Summer Arts WorkshopStafford, Colleen 01 April 2018 (has links) (PDF)
This research is a qualitative exploration of the impacts of Loyola Marymount’s Summer Arts Workshop from the perspective of the youth participant’s teachers and caregivers. The intention of this research was to compare findings in the literature of similar youth arts programs to LMU’s through examination of a previously unexplored perspective. Data was collected through an arts based focus group as well as paper-pencil questionnaires including both Likert scale and open ended questions. Themes emerged through thorough analysis of all data collected and presented both themes of specific program impacts and opportunities for future program improvements. The findings of this research further illuminate established assertions found within the literature of prosocial impacts produced within youth participation in community arts programs. Additionally upon expansion of emergent themes, the researcher established the findings of LMU’s Summer Arts Program to positively impact adolescents and identity development, generate gains in social capital and produce positive community impacts through art making.

The concepts "capital building" and 'Institutionalisation" are analysed and applied to
community arts centres as instruments for socio-economic development (SED) in South
Africa. Theories of neo-classicism, Marxism, development economics and socio-economic
development show that building physical, financial, human, social and cultural capital in a
complementary configuration is crucial to sustainable socio-economic development. The
concept "capital building for SED" is formulated in this regard. New institutional economics
and critical extensions of this theory show that institutions play a key role in capital building
for SED, as they entail embeddedness, normativity, e-ntreprcneurship, partnership, structure
and complementarity. The arts sector contributes considerably to capital building for SED, in
particular arts centres in marginalized communities in the UK, USA and South Africa.
Community arts centres built political, cultural and human capital in black townships during
the South African democratic struggle (1950-92). In accordance with proposals from the arts
sector, the post-1994 South African government developed 42 arts centres. However, the
contribution of most old and new centres to socio-economic development appears to be
insignificant and few are sustainable. The causes of failure are difficult to explain due to lack
of information and theory. Through the application of a theoretical framework to the South
African arts sector and three case studies the hypothesis is tested that community arts centres
can contribute considerably to capital building for SED if they are appropriately
institutionalised, while an appropriate focus on capital building for SED results in stronger
institutions. An analysis of arts sector shows that strong institutions achieve high returns on
investments in capital building, but that few benefit the poor. The application of an analytical
matrix consisting of indicators of the above-mentioned five types of capital and six
institutional components, shows significant positive correlations between the levels of
inslitutionalisation and capital building for SED in the Community Arts Project, the
Katlehong Art Centre and ArtsforAIl. The findings result in recommendations on policy and
