Archeologický park Mikulčice / The Archeological Park Mikulcice

Hladíková, Monika January 2009 (has links)
Architectonic and urbanistic concept The designed area is placed in the rural zone of the village Mikulčice and in the rural zone of the village Kopčany. This area has a big potencial in its cultural and historical values as well as in the natural ones. The connection of the pure and very original nature with a very strong historical value gives the region its very own authentic character and amplifies the experience of the visitor. This reagion was declared as a cultural heritage in 1962 and yet it is nominated to the World heritage list UNESCO. Its rich history and archeological discoveries gave an idea to built here a congress center. The congress center is situated in the natural enviroment where it presents the ruined churches and also the archeological discoveries. The goal of this project is to attract attention of the public. To enriche the knowledge of the public and to connect both sides of the river Morava by a bridge. The idea is to preserve the woods and meadows in the horizontal like region and to enter the landscape with a similar composition. The building itself is situated to the north of the ground plans of the churches, in historical path of the authentic waterway around the stronghold site. Its shape is inspired by a boat which reflects the waterway and the heritage of st.Cyril and st.Method who passed on to us the teachings of the Church. This is symbolised as large boats carrying the people to the everlasting salvation. The topic of the „path“ reminds us of our pilgrimage through the neverending sea of time. The values which our ancestors passed on to us and which we will pass on to our children. The bridge which overcomes this building can be a notional connection beetween the history and the present days. These are undoubtedly linked together and we should not forget it.

Visual Framing: A Study in Face-ism from the Websites for the 108th United States Congress.

Anderson, Beth Johnson 13 December 2003 (has links) (PDF)
Websites are being used by increasing numbers to target a market with a message unfiltered by the media. This content analysis examined the website front-screens for the members of the 108th United States Congress to determine if the photographic images displayed reinforced the media's stereotypical frame of female politicians. A total of 3,892 photographic images were captured from 540 websites and coded using the face-ism index. Overall, the results supported the face-ism theory. Images of females were cropped lower on their bodies than images of males. The face-ism effect was not supported until the number of people in the photograph numbered six or more. Results revealed that photographic images of female representatives and senators were cropped no differently than their male peers. The research indicated females in Congress are successful in framing their own image but future website designs can portray a positive frame for all females presented on Congressional websites.

Unanimous Voice, Unanimous Symbol: George Washington during the Revolutionary War.

Hitechew, Matthew Joseph 05 May 2007 (has links) (PDF)
George Washington's role in the American Revolution has not been lost in the mists of time, but most modern Americans have lost touch with his actual character and style because of the immense cultural changes that have transpired since the eighteenth century. However, by examining the duties of Washington throughout the Revolutionary War from four different perspectives a more holistic interpretation of Washington during America's fight for independence may be gained. This study examines the relationships Washington had with Congress as well as with his fellow officers and troops. Particular attention is paid to the manner in which Washington led the army, in addition to how he was perceived by his contemporaries at large. The goal of this thesis is to achieve a holistic interpretation of Washington's tenure as Commander-in-Chief, which will enable a better understanding of why Washington was and continues to be perceived as a symbol for American independence.

La clasificación de la Biblioteca del Congreso de los Estados Unidos (LCC) : correspondencia de los temas de la sección F3442-F3447 de la subdivisión "Peru" respecto a los de la bibliografía peruana

Vargas Lama, Franco 27 January 2020 (has links)
The Library of Congress Classification one of the most widely used knowledge organization systems in libraries worldwide for its structure and scope and for its support in the connection with the required information resources, presents differences regarding complexity, updating and compliance with respect to the development of research in Universal and Latin America, history. In this sense, this research seeks to verify such differences with respect to the Peruvian historical and bibliographic reality, for which it is estimated the degree of correspondence existing in 180 subjects (historical events and characters) based on appearance and not appearance in LCC “Peru”, section F3442 - F3447, located in F class, “History of the Americas”, peruvian subdivision, F3400 –F3700, as in six authors recognized in Peruvian bibliography (historical period 1492 - 1919) systematically selected from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) library system. Two tables of degrees are proposed to estimate the correspondence, adapted from the Likert scale, and consist the measuring instrument. After counting in summations, percentages and proportions, it is concluded that the degree of correspondence between the aforementioned knowledge structures is 2,970 / 1, "low", however the set of proportions, as of degrees, is varied for both author, as for each period. The author of the closest degree of correspondence is Fisher, for his 1989 bibliography, with 1,692, "high," and the one with the greatest distance is Porras, for his 1963 work, with 3,974, "very low." In the case of the periods, the one with the closest degree of correspondence is “Emancipation and Independence of Peru (1820 - 1830)” with 2,217 / 1, “high” and the one with the greatest distance is “Viceroyalty of Peru (1548 - 1824)” with 4.042 / 1, “low”. However, more studies in Peru and Latin America are suggested for LCC in other thematic fields as well as in correlation with their state-of-the-art approach.

Institutional Vs. Non-institutional Sources Of Presidential Influence: Explaining Congressional-presidential Relations In The Age Of Polarization

Culp, Derek 01 January 2013 (has links)
This thesis examines the determinants of presidential success with Congress. Seven essential sources of presidential power in the current era of party polarization were derived from the extant literature, and these factors were delineated into the institutional (formal) and non-institutional (informal) policymaking tools of the presidency. Variables that explain presidential legislative success include: intraparty support in Congress, the use of veto bargaining, executive orders and signing statements (institutional factors); as well as public approval, ‘going public,’ and strategic lobbying of Congress (non-institutional factors). Case studies of the presidencies of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush analyze the role of these policymaking tools in four key legislative battles of each presidency. Regression models were constructed to test the effect of these variables on presidential legislative success. The case studies elucidate the relationship between noninstitutional factors and their subsequent impact on key presidential policy priorities, particularly the interaction between public approval and going public. Findings indicate a positive relationship between a president’s strategic bargaining ability with Congress and subsequent legislative success. Findings also show no significant relationship between intraparty support and presidential success when focusing on only key legislative battles between the executive and legislative branches, contrary to the findings of prior research. Future research might examine the various relationships between these policymaking tools and how they affect the nature of presidential power in the current era of heightened party polarization and ideological homogeneity.
