Two families of holomorphic correspondences

Curtis, Andrew January 2014 (has links)
Holomorphic correspondences are multivalued functions from the Riemann sphere to itself. This thesis is concerned with a certain type of holomorphic correspondence known as a covering correspondence. In particular we are concerned with a one complexdimensional family of correspondences constructed by post-composing a covering correspondence with a conformal involution. Correspondences constructed in this manner have varied and intricate dynamics. We introduce and analyze two subfamilies of this parameter space. The first family consists of correspondences for which the limit set is a Cantor set, the second family consists of correspondences for which the limit set is connected and for which the action of the correspondence on the complement of this limit set exhibits certain group like behaviour.

Make inferences about bacterial gene functions with the concept of neighborhood in silico / Faire des inférences sur les fonctions des gènes bactériens avec le concept de voisinage in silico

Wang, Tingzhang 15 December 2010 (has links)
With more and more genomes being sequenced, the organization of those raw data and the derived data, the extraction of information and knowledge from these data has become a challenge. A key concept in this field is that of the neighborhood, especially with respect to the organization of data in relational databases. To extract information from bulk data, different kinds of neighborhoods were studied and each show interesting results in current study. .Firstly, through the Correspondence Analysis (CA) and later Model Based Clustering (MBC), two kinds of neighbors i.e. the genes (proteins) and amino acids were analyzed respectively, and it was found that proteins from Psychromonas ingrahamii are clustered into six classes, and there is strong opposition between asparagine (N) and the oxygen-sensitive amino acids. Secondly, the relationship between genomic islands and core genome (i.e. two closely linked neighbors withlarge range on the chromosome) was studied by a new method combining composition, GI features and synteny break. On applying to E. coli and B. subtilis it was revealed that this new method can extract some meaningful regions not published before. Thirdly, the relationship between upstream and coding regions of thrS gene (i.e. a case for two closely linked neighbors with small range on the chromosome) was studied extensively. It was found that these two regions associated to one gene, behaved differently in the evolutionary history.. Some of the upstream regions bearing non-essential function (i.e. regulation of gene expression) evolved more slowly than the coding region.

[en] LETTERS AND LIFE OF PAULO LEMINSKI: F(R)ICTION OF TRACES, OR THIS FURIOUS LONGING FOR WHATEVER / [pt] CORRESPONDÊNCIA E VIDA DE PAULO LEMINSKI: F(R)ICÇÃO DE (TR)AÇOS OU ESSA FÚRIA QUE QUER SEJA LÁ O QUE FLOR

FATIMA MARIA DE OLIVEIRA 14 January 2005 (has links)
[en] This dissertation proposes a reflection on the published correspondence (1976-1981) of the poet Paulo Leminski (1944- 1989) and the cycle of biographies he produced from 1983 to 1986. In the literary-cultural context of the 1970s and 80s, Leminski carried out, by means of these two discursive practices, the deconstruction of hegemonic aesthetic and epistemological values. The reading of the letters included in Envie meu dicionário, edited by the poet Régis Bonvicino, Paulo Leminski s friend and correspondent, and the biographies in the volume Vida, covers Leminski s process of aesthetic-literary subjectivization. A hybrid process of textual construction resulting from negotiations between low, high and media matrices is apparent in the correspondence as well as in the biographies. The interpretation of the letters and the biographies also relies on other texts by Leminski - poems, newspaper columns, essays, reviews, articles, interviews - in a wide-ranging intertextual dialogue that takes on, in this thesis, the status of theory. The textual context of the correspondence and the biographies supports the relation between art and life, aesthetic project and political project, and offers material for a selfportrait of the writer and intellectual in the form of fragments.

Implementation of operations in double-ended heaps / Implementation of operations in double-ended heaps

Bardiovský, Vojtech January 2012 (has links)
There are several approaches for creating double-ended heaps from the single-ended heaps. We build on one of them, the leaf correspondence heap, to create a generic double ended heap scheme called L-correspondence heap. This will broaden the class of eligible base single-ended heaps (e.g. by Fibonacci heap, Rank-pairing heap) and make the operations Decrease and Increase possible. We show this approach on specific examples for three different single-ended base heaps and give time complexity bounds for all operations. Another result is that for these three examples, the expected amortized time for Decrease and Increase operations in the L-correspondence heap is bounded by a constant.

Manuscritos de outros escritores no Arquivo Mário de Andrade: perspectivas de estudo / Other writers\' manuscripts in Mário de Andrade Archive: study perspectives

Marcia Regina Jaschke Machado 29 March 2005 (has links)
The aim of this masters dissertation is to present documents and certain perspectives of study linked with Others writers manuscripts series (série Manuscritos de outros escritores MOE) which integrates Mário de Andrade Archive in University of São Paulo Brazilian Studies Institute. The series collects Brazilian poets, fictionists and essayists texts, as well as some foreign names, in versions presented in autograph, typewritten and crossed out printings, including the period from the beginning of the 1910s to 1945, except for a second half of the XIX century manuscript. Most of manuscripts keep Macunaímas author reading impressions draft in their margins or the first steps of the criticism writing that will be published by him later on. The autograph notes in the margins represents an intertextual dialog, which is expanded up to the active and passive critics correspondence. In this Analytical catalog, the Others writers manuscripts are studied in the scope of literary historiography, codicology and genetic criticism.

Correspondência do tipo Galois para ações de álgebras de Hopf em álgebras primas / Galois-type correspondence for prime algebras acted upon by Hopf algebras

Octávio Bernardes Ferreira Neto 03 October 2008 (has links)
A Galois-type correspondence theorem for prime algebras acted upon by a finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebra is proved. The correspondence involves rationally complete subalgebras and comodule subalgebras. The rationally complete subalgebras are subalgebras of the prime algebra, while the comodule subalgebras are comodule subalgebras of the smash product between the centralizer of the prime algebra in its symmetric Martindale quotient algebra and the Hopf algebra.

Acting in the Interest of the Represented : A Field Experiment on Ethnic Discrimination in the Contact Between Citizens and Local Swedish Politicians

Kristiansson Åström, Angelica January 2019 (has links)
This thesis presents a field experiment on the topic of ethnic discrimination in the contact between citizens and local Swedish politicians. A correspondence technique was used to investigate whether ethnicity affects how responsive Municipal Commissioners are to questions regarding school politics. By sending an email to each Municipal Commissioner, randomising whether a putative Arabic or Swedish alias was used, it aimed to find potentialpatterns in how different groups of citizens are treated by their local political representatives. In total, eight fictitious individuals were created which each contained a unique mixture of ethnicity, gender and socioeconomic status. In general, the result shows no statistically significant signs of discrimination of individuals with Arabic-sounding names. Evidence of gender disparities among Arabic individuals was neither found. However, Arabic females are significantly less likely to receive a reply than Swedish females. Furthermore, the result indicates that socioeconomic status affects political responsiveness toward individuals with Arabic background. This should be considered problematic and noteworthy in the case of Sweden, given its reputation of being a highly egalitarian and well-functioning democracy. The findings further stress the importance to acknowledge that different categories of social identities may interact with ethnic discrimination. This consequently calls upon appropriate approaches to study it.

Caminhos cruzados: a correspondência entre Henry James e Robert Louis Stevenson / Crossed paths: the correspondence between Henry James and Robert Louis Stevenson

Bedran, Marina Miguel 22 February 2013 (has links)
Annotated translation of the correspondence between Henry James (New York, 1843 London, 1916) and Robert Louis Stevenson (Edinburg, 1850 Samoa, 1894), unpublished in Portuguese. The correspondence began in December 1884 and lasted for a decade. The letters reveal an unlikely friendship between two very different writers and a shared concern for the art of fiction. The material examined sheds light on an important discussion about literature at a decisive moment, on the eve of the transformations that it was to undergo at the beginning of the twentieth century. The introductory essay seeks to recreate the course of this discussion and point some of its implications.
