BeAKKta : ett kommunikationshjälpmedel som möter behoven av djupare kommunikation hos personer med autism / BeAACta : a communication tool that meets the deeper communication needs of adults with ASDLindqvist, Monika Adamson January 2011 (has links)
A vulnerable group in society is people with ASD (autism spectrum disorders) or autism. This group seems to increase, mainly due to genetic factors but also environmental problems. Medical research has accelerated in the U.S. and Europe. The biggest problem for people with disabilities is the inability to communicate, both verbally and socially. Parallel communication is growing strongly, a technique that can help these people much, if only there were an adaptation to the needs. There are already technical communication aids developed for people with autism. But they do not seem to fit the target group's communication needs well enough. These aids are designed to handle a superficial communication and people with autism do not understand this type of communication at all. People with ASD would rather appreciate the deeper relationships that can support them on important issues, such as to clarify the context for them are hard to understand. E.g. "inside" and "beyond" could tell that there are a number of houses behind them closer to the houses. They need a different type of support and this support must be provided by close caregivers. Closely support by caregivers seems to be essential for successful development. In other words, they do not have the extensive list of contacts that are in their communication tool today. In my theses, I look primarily at the core needs behind the communication of people with autism. But I also present a design proposal in the form of some sketches on the basis of these needs. The reason for focusing on the analysis is that the majority of existing technical communication aids never seems to have questioned the basis for the decisions shaping the design, i.e. the real needs of the people with ASD. Too often wrong design decisions seem to be made mainly due to an incorrect analysis. Several functions ought to coincide in a single tool that can support the people with ASD to talk, think clearer thoughts, to reflect, formulate an opinion and dream. I would like them to reach deeper thoughts than was possible so far. The features are not new but the combination is. I count to seven features which I consider to be crucial for my result: “Emphasized transfer”, “transparency”, “structure à la Talking Mats”, “imaging”, “digital camera”, “the real meeting”, and “caregivers as important role models”. The communicators should be geographically close to each other and carry one’s own portable technical communication aids, their “BeAKKta”, the name of this design proposal. My result identifies needs of disabled people in their communication, and gives suggestions on how to respond to those needs by presenting different sketches from an analysis. The sketches show up a new design for this communication tool, both in terms of form and function. Lovisa, my daughter and her communication problem is the origin of the trials and she is also the one who gave me both insights and inspiration. / Phone number: 46709981048

Previous issue date: 2000-02-22 / The purpose of the present research was to understand the nature of the feelings demonstrated by mothers who are experiencing the separation/individuation process of an adolescent son (daughter) as symbolized by the vestibular entrance exam and to analyze the possible effect of these feelings on the vocational choice of their children. The study had the collaboration of 8 mothers, ages between 39 to 43, which were going through the vestibular situation for the first time. Using semi-directive interviews the research analyzed the following dimensions: predominant feelings in face of the vestibular situation; the mother s perception of the son s (daughter s) differentiation process; their reaction to autonomy manifestations on the son s (daughter s) part; the meaning the mother attributes to the vestibular; a possible relation between the mother s career choice and the moment the adolescent faces and the mother s perception of possible changes in her life as a result of the vestibular situation. Each interview was first analyzed as an individual case study and afterward they were all compared to each other in relation to the above mentioned dimensions. It was observed that the high level of anxiety the mothers demonstrated in face of the situation represented a sum of feelings related to the difficulty of elaborating the separation/individuation process in their children. Mothers tended to: 1) perceive their sons (daughters) as dependent and immature; 2) identify with the adolescents in a symbiotic manner of relation and to deny possible changes in their own lives in view of the new situation; 3) interfere directly in their son s (daughter s) career choice; 4) perceive the vestibular situation as a victory or accomplishment mainly for themselves, instead of the adolescent s, which denoted how some mothers feel that they re valued by their children s performance. The research concluded that this resistance in face of the differentiation process interferes in a negative way in their children s career choices and contributes to difficult the elaboration of a personal life project by adolescents. It was empathized that such influence is mainly due to the moment when the vestibular takes place in Brazil, in which the adolescent is chronologically imature, fact that contributes to difficult the separation process / A presente pesquisa teve como objetivo compreender os sentimentos que as mães apresentam frente ao processo de separação/individuação do filho (a), simbolizado pela situação do vestibular, e analisar os possíveis efeitos que eles têm na escolha vocacional/ocupacional dos filhos(as).

Mocenská nerovnováha v pečujících rodinách / Power imbalance in caring familiesNeubauerová, Eva January 2015 (has links)
Diploma thesis The power imbalance in caring families deals with power dynamics in the caregiving situation, where mother is a care receiver and her own daughter is caregiver. The theoretical part conceptualizes terms such as the power, the power imbalance, role reversal, caregiver, care receiver and ambivalence. The practical part is presented with its own qualitative survey with caregivers. The work confirms that the factors that significantly affect the success of care are (by caring daughter) options for care giving and degree of caring tie, and (by care receiving mother) ability to give up part of their autonomy, to assess properly the subjective and objective assistance needs and satisfaction with quality and quantity of social ties. The work also reveals some of the mechanisms of power dynamics within families; for example, the ways in which the phase of role reversal is reflected in mutual negotiation, persuasion in dimension, feelings of interaction, advocacy and conflict resolution. It turned out that a higher intergenerational power has actor with incomplete role reversal. Phase of role reversal showed to be a key factor in sorting manifestations of power dynamics in caregiving families. The main outcome of this work is the typology of strategies for power influence of caregivers and...

Rev J.L.R. Rammala : a case study of an African missionaryMasuku, Mnyalaza Tobias 11 1900 (has links)
Text in English / This dissertation examines the missionary activities of Rev. J.L.R. Rammala of the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa (URCSA) which was formally called the Dutch Reformed Church in Africa (DRCA). Rev. Rammala worked among the Bushmen (San) of Botswana as a missionary from 1973 to 1980. The study examines how the DRCA as a··
product of Western missions, developed its own understanding of mission when judged through the mission activities of Rev. Rammala in Botswana as a case study. This understanding of mission is judged against the background of the survey of the debate on Third World missions, and the DRCA's involvement in intercultural mission. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / Th. Changing stories and moving bones : correlation of Chinatown and mother-daughter relationships in Kingston's The Woman Warrior and Ng's BoneFujii, So 04 June 2012 (has links)
This thesis argues for significant correlations in the politics of representation of Chinatown and mother-daughter relationships in two literary texts by Maxine Hong Kingston and Fae Myenne Ng. The two novels do not follow traditional representations of Chinatown and provide critical representations of Chinatown and mother-daughter relationships. First, Kingston's The Woman Warrior reveals how the heroine demystifies a powerful image of her mother and a mystic image of Chinatown in a process of establishing her autonomy. Second, Ng's Bone describes how the heroine tries to free her mother from a dismal image of Chinatown to live her own life outside Chinatown. The analyses of representation of Chinatown and mother-daughter relationships rely on close readings of the textual motifs through a psychoanalytic framework and cultural theories. / Graduation date: 2012
