Caractéristiques des maladies auto-immunes et systémiques aux Antilles-Guyane dans leur environnement / Characteristics of autoimmune and systemic diseases in the Antilles-Guyana in their environment

Deligny, Christophe 03 July 2015 (has links)
Auto-immunes and systemic diseases are priorities for researchers since 15 years. This is related to the emergence of biological therapies, associated to great efficacy. Although, these diseases are heterogeneous, depending of different parameters such as ethnicity or geography. In the African descent population, we encounter unusual or particular manifestations of these diseases. Also, the knowledge of epidemiology and population based descriptions are crucial to properly initiate works on these populations, but also to understand a particularly complex physiopathology by using differences between populations. We describe in this work the population based characteristics of pure cutaneous lupus and systemic lupus, including an epidemiology of the incidence of the lowest incidence ever found in a population of African heritage. We also describe a population based series of anti-synthetase syndrome, confirming that the presentation is totally different compared to caucasians, and allows in Martinique the incidence, never explored before. We also provide the first evaluation of Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease in a population of African origin, and the first incidence ever realized. We do the same evaluation of the epidemiology of Behcet’s disease in a black origin population that shows that this disease was at a similar frequency in Martinique and in Europe. Micropolyangeitis, polyarteritis, eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangeitis and Granulomatosis with polyangeitis were evaluated in an epidemiologic study in Martinique, with addition of some cases from other French American region for a more powerful characteristics description. These diseases seem less frequent than in Europe, associated with less severity except for micropolyangeitis. EUROLUPUS, a protocol with low dose IV cyclophosphamide and low dose steroids, used to treat proliferative nephritis of systemic lupus is shown to have the same efficacy in Martinique than in patients of European origin. Primary Sjögren syndrome, evaluated in Martinique, is very similar in expression than what is found in Europe. The decrease overtime of aseptic osteonecrosis, a steroid side effect, is a witness of better control of systemic lupus activity with less usage permitted by protocols and new immunosuppressive drugs such as mycophenolate. Systemic sclerosis is described as very close to African American in a population based study in Martinique and Guadeloupe. We finally show that the rare ENT involvement of idiopathic inflammatory myositis is frequent in our population, associated with poor outcome, and surprisingly frequently related to systemic lupus and necrotizing myositis associated to SRP antibody but not to inclusion body myositis. To conclude, we allow an amount of description of these diseases in our region, including pioneer studies. This works tends to be the basis for studies to be continued in a more fundamental way in our countries.

A runtime system for data-flow task programming on multicore architectures with accelerators / Uma ferramenta para programação com dependência de dados em arquiteturas multicore com aceleradores / Vers un support exécutif avec dépendance de données pour les architectures multicoeur avec des accélérateurs

Lima, João Vicente Ferreira January 2014 (has links)
A conclusão desta tese é dupla. / In this thesis, we propose to study the issues of task parallelism with data dependencies on multicore architectures with accelerators. We target those architectures with the XKaapi runtime system developed by the MOAIS team (INRIA Rhône-Alpes). We first studied the issues on multi-GPU architectures for asynchronous execution and scheduling. Work stealing with heuristics showed significant performance results, but did not consider the computing power of different resources. Next, we designed a scheduling framework and a performance model to support scheduling strategies over XKaapi runtime. Finally, we performed experimental evaluations over the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor in native execution. Our conclusion is twofold. First we concluded that data-flow task programming can be efficient on accelerators, which may be GPUs or Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors. Second, the runtime support of different scheduling strategies is essential. Cost models provide significant performance results over very regular computations, while work stealing can react to imbalances at runtime.

Konzistence lingvistických anotací / Consistency of Linguistic Annotation

Aggarwal, Akshay January 2020 (has links)
Thesis Abstract Akshay Aggarwal July 2020 This thesis attempts at correction of some errors and inconsistencies in dif- ferent treebanks. The inconsistencies can be related to linguistic constructions, failure of the guidelines of annotation, failure to understand the guidelines on annotator's part, or random errors caused by annotators, among others. We propose a metric to attest the POS annotation consistency of different tree- banks in the same language, when the annotation guidelines remain the same. We offer solutions to some previously identified inconsistencies in the scope of the Universal Dependencies Project, and check the viability of a proposed in- consistency detection tool in a low-resource setting. The solutions discussed in the thesis are language-neutral, intended to work with multiple languages with efficiency. 1

Hysteresis of the magnetic properties of soft magnetic gels

Zubarev, A. Yu., Chirikov, D. N., Borin, D. Yu., Stepanov, G. V. 09 December 2019 (has links)
We present results of an experimental and theoretical study of the magnetic properties of soft magnetic gels consisting of micron-sized magnetizable particles embedded in a polymer matrix. Experiments demonstrate hysteretic dependences of composite magnetization on an applied magnetic field and non-monotonic, with maximum, dependence of the sample susceptibilities on the field. We propose a theoretical approach which describes the main physical features of these experimental results.

One for all, all for one? : An analysis of EU Member States' positions on a European external energy policy

Talvén, Erica January 2022 (has links)
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 has once again demonstrated that the European Union does not have a common external energy policy since it has struggled to take on a common energy position towards Russia. Prior research has stated that this can mainly be attributed to member states' divergent energy supply objectives towards Russia, which can be divided into two groups. One group comprises Central and East European member states who want to reduce their import dependencies on Russia. The other group, mainly composed of Western member states, seek to maintain their relations with Russia. This paper analyzes how these two groups' divergent energy supply objectives have changed and how these objectives can explain the lack of consensus regarding an external energy policy of the EU. Three hypotheses are constructed on rational choice and sociological institutionalism. The main findings are that member states' energy supply objectives towards Russia have changed. Both groups of member states have attempted to reduce their import dependencies on Russia. At the same time, the countries continue to pursue their energy supply objectives at the bilateral level, which can be explained by member states' divergent perceptions of solidarity.

On the Way to the Fluvial Anthroposphere—Current Limitations and Perspectives of Multidisciplinary Research

Werther, Lukas, Mehler, Natascha, Schenk, Gerrit Jasper, Zielhofer, Christoph 09 May 2023 (has links)
Floodplains represent a global hotspot of sensitive socioenvironmental changes and early human forcing mechanisms. In this review, we focus on the environmental conditions of preindustrial floodplains in Central Europe and the fluvial societies that operated there. Due to their high land-use capacity and the simultaneous necessity of land reclamation and risk minimisation, societies have radically restructured the Central European floodplains. According to the current scientific consensus, up to 95% of Central European floodplains have been extensively restructured or destroyed. Therefore, question arises as to whether or when it is justified to understand Central European floodplains as a ‘Fluvial Anthroposphere’. The case studies available to date show that human-induced impacts on floodplain morphologies and environments and the formation of specific fluvial societies reveal fundamental changes in the medieval and preindustrial modern periods. We aim to contribute to disentangling the questions of when and why humans became a significant controlling factor in Central European floodplain formation, and how humans in interaction with natural processes and other chains of effects have modified floodplains. As a conclusion, we superimpose emerging fields of research concerning the onset of the Fluvial Anthroposphere and provide 10 specific thematic objectives for future multidisciplinary work.

Regularity extraction from non-adjacent sounds

Bendixen, Alexandra, Schröger, Erich, Ritter, Walter, Winkler, István 29 July 2022 (has links)
The regular behavior of sound sources helps us to make sense of the auditory environment. Regular patterns may, for instance, convey information on the identity of a sound source (such as the acoustic signature of a train moving on the rails). Yet typically, this signature overlaps in time with signals emitted from other sound sources. It is generally assumed that auditory regularity extraction cannot operate upon this mixture of signals because it only finds regularities between adjacent sounds. In this view, the auditory environment would be grouped into separate entities by means of readily available acoustic cues such as separation in frequency and location. Regularity extraction processes would then operate upon the resulting groups. Our new experimental evidence challenges this view. We presented two interleaved sound sequences which overlapped in frequency range and shared all acoustic parameters. The sequences only differed in their underlying regular patterns. We inserted deviants into one of the sequences to probe whether the regularity was extracted. In the first experiment, we found that these deviants elicited the mismatch negativity (MMN) component. Thus the auditory system was able to find the regularity between the non-adjacent sounds. Regularity extraction was not influenced by sequence cohesiveness as manipulated by the relative duration of tones and silent inter-tone-intervals. In the second experiment, we showed that a regularity connecting non-adjacent sounds was discovered only when the intervening sequence also contained a regular pattern, but not when the intervening sounds were randomly varying. This suggests that separate regular patterns are available to the auditory system as a cue for identifying signals coming from distinct sound sources. Thus auditory regularity extraction is not necessarily confined to a processing stage after initial sound grouping, but may precede grouping when other acoustic cues are unavailable.

Visualisering av mjukvarusystem och systemberoenden

Buchberger, Daniel, Sozinov, Konstantin January 2016 (has links)
Visualization of software systems is mainly used for understanding and modeling software architecture. Examples of what can be visualized are source code, systems during execution together with manipulated data or system architecture on either a detailed or a general level. The connection between all of these types of visualization is that they help computer engineers maintain or develop software systems. The largest challenge with visualizing software systems is when the systems in question are exceedingly large and containing an abundance of relations. A problem of this kind arise at the company DGC, where this study is performed. The company manages at present more than a couple hundred systems with over ten thousand relations between each other. The problem with the company’s existing visualization is that they are very difficult to follow and understand, since they mainly present raw data in the form of tables that do not show all relations optimally, and which can also easily distract the company stakeholders from their intended task. The aim of this study is to find a visualization method where a system and its underlying parts are shown together with their relations to other systems. The created visualization will be able to be used by several different stakeholders and will as clearly as possible present relevant information to them. Furthermore, it should also aim to contribute to a better understanding of the complex software systems and their relations. After the implementation of the chosen visualization method, a time-based study is performed to determine whether it poses an improvement of perception among the stakeholders or not. An interview is also conducted where these stakeholders provide their opinion on the created visualization and if they think it presents the necessary information in a pedagogical way. Analysis of the result of the timekeeping and the interview answers indicate that the aim of the study is met. The majority of the resulting times show that the created visualization is more efficient than the original ones, and the interview answers furthermore show how different stakeholders all together agree that the visualization can be used in both future development and maintenance.

Cao, Phuong Thao 20 June 2013 (has links)
We study the approximate answers to OLAP queries on data warehouses. We consider the relative answers to OLAP queries on a schema, as distributions with the L1 distance and approximate the answers without storing the entire data warehouse. We first introduce three specific methods: the uniform sampling, the measure-based sampling and the statistical model. We introduce also an edit distance between data warehouses with edit operations adapted for data warehouses. Then, in the OLAP data exchange, we study how to sample each source and combine the samples to approximate any OLAP query. We next consider a streaming context, where a data warehouse is built by streams of different sources. We show a lower bound on the size of the memory necessary to approximate queries. In this case, we approximate OLAP queries with a finite memory. We describe also a method to discover the statistical dependencies, a new notion we introduce. We are looking for them based on the decision tree. We apply the method to two data warehouses. The first one simulates the data of sensors, which provide weather parameters over time and location from different sources. The second one is the collection of RSS from the web sites on Internet.
