Björsson, Anna, Collin, Alice January 2018 (has links)

Användning av trygghetskameror för nattstillsyn inom äldreomsorg : en kvalitativ studie om biståndshandläggares etiska dilemman / Security cameras for night supervision in elderly care : a qualitative study relating to a care managers ethical dilemma

Khamitova, Lira January 2018 (has links)

The contribution of social dilemma theory and individualism/collectivism to the marketing of water

Chipp, Kerry Fiona 06 March 2008 (has links)
Abstract The role of marketing in social issues has grown over the last thirty years since Kotler himself introduced the concept (Kotler & Zaltman, 1971). In the evolution of social marketing it has moved from being entirely marketing process orientated towards expanding its vision to other useful theories from the subject’s parent disciplines. Social dilemma theory, one such theory, evolved in the laboratories, computer programmes and field experiments of psychologists and economists. In 1991 marketers proposed the theory as an aid to understanding individual action in collective problems. The current study assesses the relevance of social dilemma theory for the marketing of water conservation behaviours in an emerging market. As such, it seeks to establish if the key variables were present and what, if any, impact large cultural forces, such as individualism and collectivism have on individual conserving behaviour. Individualism and collectivism were studied at the personal level of idiocentrism and allocentrism and along the sub-dimensions of horizontal and vertical individualism and collectivism. The interactions of these values on individual behaviour were studied, together with two key variables in social dilemma theory namely, perceived consumer effectiveness (PCE) and faith in others (FIO). Individual perceptions of resource abundance and attitudes towards non-marketing solutions, such as a sanctioning system, were investigated. The study was conducted among 444 teenage learners at secondary schools in Gauteng. A descriptive research design was used. The study found that there was an interaction between social dilemma variables and individualism/collectivism which did have an impact on individual conserving behaviour. Most, but not all relationships were verified. Collectivists required higher levels of perceived consumer effectiveness in order to engage in conservation actions, while individualists needed a greater sense of the co-operation of others. Faith in others and individualism/collectivism emerged as having a direct impact on consumer behaviour, while perceived consumer effectiveness was a moderator of the other variables and had no main, direct, effect on behaviour. Water was thought of as an abundant resource and in little need of conservation. Low income consumers favoured a sanctioning system to enforce compliance. The implications of the study for marketing theory and practice are discussed. -

“SOY UN BUEN HIJO:” A NARRATIVE INQUIRY OF ACCOMPLISHED MEXICAN MALES AND THEIR EXPERIENCES IN COMPLETING HIGHER EDUCATION AND THE GOOD SON DILEMMA

Hernandez, Arturo 01 March 2019 (has links)
Latino males have come to be an “invisible” populace that is underrepresented in higher education (Saenz & Ponjuan, The vanishing Latino male in higher education, 2009). Previous research has addressed the causes for why Latino males are declining and not persisting in college (Harper, (Re)setting the agenda for college men of color: Lessons learned from a 15-year movement to improve Black male student success, 2014; Saenz & Ponjuan, The vanishing Latino male in higher education, 2009). However, scholars who have studied this subject concluded this is a multifaceted concern that needs to be understood in more depth. Latino males are struggling to keep up with their male and female peers at crucial transition points of the education pipeline (Saenz & Ponjuan, The vanishing Latino male in higher education, 2009). The plight of Latino males continues to be a challenging educational issue, which is magnified by the neglect of policy makers, educators, and leaders in higher education who continue to overlook the unique socioeconomic and cultural characteristics surrounding the Latino male experiences in postsecondary education (Noguera & Hurtado, 2012). The problem that this study addresses is the truncated college completion rates among Latino males of Mexican ancestry and the persistent problem of the increasing gender gap and underrepresentation of Latino male student’s graduation rates. This narrative inquiry examined the cultural concepts of familismo and the “good son dilemma” as they relate to the college experience of Latino students which thereby informs a deeper understanding of the experiences that facilitate successful academic achievement of Latino male students of Mexican ancestry. Secondly, this study aimed to highlight the voices of Latino male students of Mexican ancestry, who have navigated through the educational system and graduated from a four-year higher education institution.

A visual interpretation of Chinese immigrants’ identity dilemma in New Zealand

Zhang, Nuo January 2008 (has links)
This thesis explores the notion of identity dilemma and its visualisation in the context of New Zealand Chinese immigration. It focuses on interpreting and visualising New Zealand Chinese immigrants’ thoughts and feelings and their struggle to adapt to the environment as well as their ambivalent negotiation to balance their in-between identity of being a New Zealander (Westerner) and Chinese. It is a practice-based project and is presented by means of photography, with illustration as the supporting medium. The predicament of identity is explored through interviewing members of the New Zealand Chinese community. A semi-constructed interview is designed and introduced to canvass 20 Chinese participants’ opinions of their cultural beliefs and sense of belonging in a Western society. The data is collected and analysed to investigate the informants’ thoughts and feelings in their daily routine in a multicultural community. I, as an art and design practitioner, visually interpret and transcend my opinion of identity dilemma of Chinese immigrants into my practical works. The participants’ thoughts and feelings are transferred into my artwork through creating patterns of visual elements. Employing a heuristic visual research method, my explorative work attempts to transfer social research findings of the idea of identity dilemma into my artwork for initiating contemporary visual discourse.

<p>Counselling is one of the most commonly utilized tools in the work place. The purpose of this paper is to explore how four employers utilize early counselling sessions related to absences due to illness. A qualitative research method has been used and four human resource managers have been interviewed. The research questions have been divided into three categories: the counselling structure, the counselling model and the counselling dilemmas. The interviews have been transcribed and processed through these three categories. The results show that most employers are positive regarding conducting initial counselling sessions related to work absences. The experience of the session can vary depending on one’s role in the counselling session. Counselling sessions related to short term work absences are impacted by labour legislation, changes in the workplace, the company culture, and the amount of power held by the person who conducts the counselling session. Security and Liberty: the Republican Dilemma in the Early American Republic

Long, Katya 26 May 2009 (has links)

Essays on Uncertainty in Public Economics and Cooperative Bargaining

Baris, Omer F 07 August 2012 (has links)
This dissertation consists of two parts. The theme connecting the two parts is the role of uncertainty. The first part focuses on the role of uncertainty in cooperative bargaining and public decision making. I provide an axiomatic characterization of the normalized utilitarian solution to bargaining problems involving uncertainty. In addition to three basic axioms that are common in the bargaining literature, I propose the axiom of weak linearity to characterize the solution. In the second part I study uncertainty in non-cooperative games by designing a principal agent model of public bailouts. The first essay in this part sets up the model and shows that the moral hazard problem, namely the Samaritan's dilemma, exists without an altruistic principal. The second essay in this part builds upon the previous essay and focuses on the informational elements in a bailout game. Mainly, I show the existence of a separating equilibrium, where public bailouts serve as a mechanism to reveal essential information to outsiders and in which the good-type agents can benefit from rejecting a bailout offer.
