Colonetti, Milton January 2010 (has links)
Based on the concepts of habitus and literary field, originated in Pierre Bourdieu's theoric paradigm, this master's degree thesis studies the phenomenon of literary incubators, and utilizes Livros do Mal as example. The historic series and the contemporary status of the literary field are analyzed through these concepts, with greater detail to the first part of the first decade of XXI century. The objective is the specification of the positions and dispositions that function as support for the agency inside the contemporary literary field.

Abstract: Eugênio Hirsch (Vienna, 1923 - Rio de Janeiro, 2001) is best known by his work for the publishing house Civilização Brasileira in the first half of the 1960s, wich was marked by a large range of visual resources used with great freedom granted to him by editor Ênio Silveira. In the same period he made book covers for Globo, a publishing house based on the city of Porto Alegre. Although less expressive in number, these covers kept the same quality and freedom. After a short period in the USA, Hirsch was hired by Madri based publishing house Codex as art director, being responsible for El Mundo de los Museus collection. When returning to Brazil in the end of the 1960s, he begun to work for Livraria José Olympio Editora, in Rio de Janeiro. This research is centered in the relation between letters and images in Hirsch's book covers. This relation is studied by analizing the book covers made by Hirsch between 1959 and 1976. In this wide sampling, the most relevant and recurring caractheristics related to lettering and type in Hirsch's work are identified. Also presented is a sample of the graphic work done by some cover artists that had worked in Brazil during the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, allowing a more accurate perception of the importance of Eugênio Hirsch's work. / Doutorado / Artes / Doutor em Artes

The research subject is the Portal Biblon , social network addressed to children users, which has to promote reading through literary narratives, adding users around the literary text. The research analyzes E-books´ graphic interfaces available on this website under the editorial design guidelines emphasized on the Child user´s experience. Based on interaction and editorial design, analyzes the main features of an E-book for children users. Applying the research methodology with qualitative approaching, it was noted that the Editorial Design´s elements work as inspirational parameters for reading and when an E-book is not designed taking into account the need of its target audience, it works as an opposite element of its function, that is, instead of encouraging the reading, causes frustration and a lack of interest in it.

We based our work on the main concepts of Flusser’s philosophy of black box, as well as several specific references in different areas of knowledge – such as Publishing, Education and Law –, what caracterizes this research as an interdisciplinary research. The researcher is a publishing professional and analyzed in a systematic way the publishing process, more specifically, the processes assigned to the art editor and iconographic process, identifying and classifying the internal and external factors to the publishing process that influence or determine the output of the process, the final content of the textbook. The internal factors identified are the pedagogical, organizational, financial and the stylistic/aesthetic ones. The external factors are the logistical, legal and government ones. The survey showed how such factors, hidden inside the black box of the publish process, influence the final content of images inside the textbook and suggests that such issues should be always considered in any analysis of this publishing and educational complex object.

Cristina Yamazaki 29 May 2009 (has links)
It is the purpose of this thesis to study the field of text-editing in the Brazilian book publishing industry. Its main aim is to point out a few distinctions deemed necessary not only to the academic research but also to the formation of researchers and professionals in this particular field of study and work. In order to achieve this goal, the main phases the text goes through on its way to becoming a book -- text-editing, copy-editing and proofreading -- are here taken into account and characterized. Examining the available manuals and academic papers on the book editing field is the starting point of this research. It then goes on to promoting a dialogue between the book editing field and other areas of expertise, such as psycholinguistics and cognitive psychology, that also deal with the process of reading. The possible relationships this dialogue reveals and the actual praxis of text editing are then analyzed. Contributing to a better knowledge of what text-editing actually involves is therefore a primary aim of this thesis. It intends to shed some light on the specific phases, primary and secondary goals and strategies text-editing comprises, as well as on a series of elements needed not only for the praxis of text-editing itself but also for a more conscientious practice of this activity.

Specifically in scientific communication, the use of electronic media allows you to streamline the editorial process steps, as well as facilitate the creation, dissemination, research and use of scientific information. However, the incorporation of technology is also challenging because it requires several changes in the management model of scientific journals. This is basically composed of scientific aspects (certification of contents aiming at the selection and dissemination of knowledge of high quality), administrative aspects (editorial and graphic production, administrative and financial management, marketing and communications) and financial aspects (revenue model) that need to be well aligned so that the journal can accomplish its main goal. This study aimed to analyze the editorial management of scientific journals in the Business Administration field in the Brazilian context and proposes a typology of their management models. It was adopted a qualitative approach and the data collection methods used were documental research, interviews and bibliometric analysis for, respectively, context identification, description of editorial management models and calculus of the impact of the journals selected for the study (Revista de Administração de Empresas, Revista de Administração Contemporânea, Revista de Administração da USP, Organizações & Sociedade and Brazilian Administration Review). It was identified that the selected journals have a relatively high impact (measured by citations) when compared to foreign journals classified at the Qualis (Brazilian Official Journal Ranking) of the Administration, Accounting and Tourism field. It is noticed that the management model of the journals is strongly linked to the type of supporting institution (Scientific Association, Private or Public Higher Education Institutions), which influences in scientific, administrative and financial matters of the journals. It is hoped that the results of this research can contribute not only to the editors of scientific journals, but also for decision makers that work with the policies of assessment and promotion of scientific journals in Brazil.

Of the opinion journalistic text through the translatological analysis of committed information and its condensed expression in headlines and humour

Abisaad-Mohawej, Nidale 28 June 2011 (has links)
This study deals with particular problems arising when translating a journalistic text, particularly an editorial, depending on its specific features as well as journalistic prose;its purpose is to bring out a few remarks clarifying the French-Arabic translation of opinion journalistic text. The aim of this research is to study the translation strategies applied in a corpus made up of editorials taken from the French magazine Le Point. The study shows the important impact of culture in translating editorials. Thus, we firstnoticed that editorial headlines are influenced by the discourse genre and the journalistic tradition in which they are produced. The interpretation of these short textual segments requires a complex construction of meaning on the part of the translator. There is atendency of the French editorialist to use various strategies and techniques employed for persuasion in his editorials and headlines including humour. The study shows that the translator should be sensitive not only to conventions applying across genres in Arabicjournalistic culture, but also to humour effects and cultural citations in order for theintended effect to be achieved. Our research highlights as well the important role of thesource culture to determine the global translational behaviour.

La circulation des images du Brésil « moderne » : ses représentations dans la presse internationale (1930-1960) / The circulation of images of "modern" Brazil : its representations in the international press (1930-1960)

Fernandes de Almeida, Maria Cecilia 21 January 2015 (has links)
The dissertation aims to reflect on the media coverage of urban images from architecture and planning journals. There are images in the proper sense of the term (drawings and photographs) as well as in the sense of representation, of imaginary. The topic under scrutiny is the imagery of Brazil in circulation between South America, North America and Europe between 1930 and 1960. It includes the various editorial spaces that were able to receive, distribute, comment on these images, as well as the actors and the mechanisms in which they are enrolled, they create and feed. What we called the editorial production. We question the relationship between the representations created and the selection and circulation of images. To answer this purpose we map the different trajectories of the pictures and the narrative published from differents passeurs and médiateurs participating in this international circulation, then we analyze the different ways in which images are displayed on the pages of magazines before propose a reading of mediated representations

The Race Issue - Researching Diversity and Representation of Race in Contemporary Fashion Editorials

Lehwald, Lise Charlotte January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to examine the diversity and representation of models of color in ELLE US’ 2017 fashion editorials. As the purpose is twofold, so is the methodological approach, which looks at the material through both a quantitative content analysis and a qualitative visual analysis. Theoretically, the analyses are grounded in postcolonialism, representation and the concept of new racism. To discuss medias’ influence on audiences, the theory also presents related research on this subject. Illustrating a statistical lack of diversity, as well as tendencies of stereotypical representations, the research indicates a postcolonial discourse in ELLE’s content – results that are problematic both in relation to racial equality and to the socially constructed beauty-ideals that ELLE takes part in creating.

Ink / Ink

Vomelová, Lenka Unknown Date (has links)
-ink- ink is a small independent publishing house, that is aiming to publish student-written literature with graphic design and illustrations made by young designers and artists. Main goal of the publishing house is to support, execute and spread projects of young, not yet estabilished authors and artists and thus develop the contemporary art scene. The visual identity of the publishing house is left open, it is going to be created in time by the books that are going to be published by ink. The logo is often used as a background to posters, or a stamp over photographs. I'm letting the content to speak for it's brand, not the logo. I created business cards, bookmarks, a stamp, wrapping papers that are used for parcels as well as a background for posters, and stickers. Novel Devil Novel Devil is a first book published by ink. Author of the book is Jan Smutný, recent graduate of Faculty of Fine arts in Brno. Illustration and the overall design of the book are made by me. The design is inspired by gothic books written in textura or bastarda and illustrated with woodcuts. My aim was to create a book clearly referencing this visuality, but not a „retro“ or a historicist book. I tried to create a classical book with a modern twist. That's why I chose new, modern typefaces Enigma and Lapture and the illustrations are just vector lines. Because of the theme I work only with black and and background white colour. The book was published in 200 copies.
