Dahlberg, Matilda, Lé Faucheur, Sanna January 2018 (has links)
A functioning relation between the employer and the employee generates better conditions for wellbeing at the workplace. The purpose of this study is to illustrate the functioning relation between employer-employee, within social work/the supporting role profession, and to generate a theory and a model. The aim with this is to illustrate the aspects of the functioning employeremployee relation, which are important according to them. With grounded theory as the research and methodological approach, we use nine interviews and three participative observations to examine and highlight employers and employees’ perspectives of their relation to each other. The result shows the importance of the functioning relation between them, according to both the employer and the employee. Our theory highlights several aspects that are all necessary if a functioning relation shall be possible, e.g. the employees approach and the working climate. The result also proves the importance of the employers’ role to obtain the prerequisites to develop a good relation. The most distinguishing feature of the collected material is the importance of clarity from both the employer and the employee. The generated theory model can be used as a tool in the strategy of acquiring good working conditions as well as a reminder of the importance of a functioning relation between the employer-employee.

Botha, Gerhard 11 1900 (has links)
Prior to dismissal employees are always entitled to substantive - and procedural fairness, be it in an individual or a collective context, subject to highly exceptional circumstances. Procedural fairness in particular has an inherent value, inter alia because the outcome of a process cannot be predicted. The employer also thereby establishes the facts and by conducting a process, labour peace is promoted. Also of importance for procedural fairness is adherance to own or agreed procedures, providing the employee with sufficient information, prior notification and bona fide conduct by the employer. The primary remedy in the case of an unfair dismissal is reinstatement, though reinstatement should not follow in the case of a dismissal which is (only) procedurally unfair. The guidelines as developed by the courts and arbitrators have largely been codified in the Draft Labour Relations Bill, as subsequently confirmed in the Labour Relations Act, 1995. / Mercentile Law / LL. Trends in job quality : evidence from French and British linked employer-employee data

Salibekyan, Zinaida 29 January 2016 (has links)
The contribution of this thesis is to examine the evolution of job quality from the perspective of the workplace using the British Workplace Employment Relations Surveys (WERS 2004 and 2011) and the French Enquête Relations Professionnelles et Négociations d’Entreprises (REPONSE 2005 and 2011). The thesis consists of three chapters and complements three main strands of the existing literature. The first chapter explores the impact of workplace adjustment practices on job quality in France during the recession. The second chapter examines the role of institutional regimes in Great Britain and France in explaining the cross-national variation in job quality. Finally, the third chapter investigates the strategies employees adopt in order to cope with their pay and working conditions.

The Demography of Employment in a Swedish County Council: Estimation and Mapping of Manpower Statistics in Östergötland

Papandreou, Andreas-Nikolaos January 2006 (has links)

The changing requirements in the modern labour market have led to a new form of economic geography of employment, where skills, wages and the uncertainty of employment play a primary role in the spatial division of labour.

The main purpose of this project is to investigate the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) as a tool to illustrate employment and unemployment in Östergötland County for giving information on the development of the labour market. In addition, the use of GIS for population data analysis with the help of Oracle’s map viewer is closely examined. This descriptive thesis reveals that the labour market is characterized by the geographic extension of the market and its determination by how far the supply and demand forces go and the important role that GIS plays in illustrating the distribution of workforce in Östergötland’s labour market.

GIS is an analytical tool for employer/employee demographics that can be used for visualization but also for analysis and pre-processing purposes with the use of graphic tools. With the use of thematic maps, GIS can visualise spatial data with labour data according to certain demographic criteria.

GIS technology has ways of mapping thematically the local labour market demand and supply. In addition, it is capable of constructing a comprehensive workforce development system that can integrate the job seekers and employers. GIS can facilitate the development of visual web-based mapping systems that allow users to investigate and find employees within various industries.

Changes in Workplaces and Careers

Håkanson, Christina January 2013 (has links)
Organizational Change and Productivity Growth − Evidence from Sweden This paper uses two different firm level surveys matched with employer-employee data to investigate both determinants and effects of different types of organizational change. The results support the competition hypothesis for inducing organizational change. Among the four measures of organizational change investigated in this paper, only delayering shows significant effects on subsequent productivity growth. Firms and Skills: The Evolution of Worker Sorting We document a significant increase in sorting by both cognitive and non-cognitive skill from 1986 to 2008 using data for 28 cohorts of Swedish men. The skill differences within firms have fallen in all major industries while differences in skill between firms have increased. Two main factors drive the increase in sorting. First, workers in high-skilled occupations, such as engineers, have moved to the IT and telecom industries. Second, assortative matching of workers by skill has become more positive. Trading Off or Having it All? Completed Fertility and Mid-career Earnings of Swedish Men and Women Earnings in mid-career and children are two fundamental outcomes of the life-choices of men and women. This paper explores how these outcomes have changed for Swedish men and women born 1945−1962 by documenting changes in education, assortative mating patterns, completed fertility and mid-career earnings and also how the association between children and earnings has changed over time. Solving the Puzzle − Hours Constraints, Technical Change and Female Labor Supply This paper extends the standard theory of labor supply to incorporate an important ingredient in the labor supply decision of today's women: the role of flexibility and time constraints. Using a life-cycle model, I formalize the notion that as technology allows jobs to become more flexible, time constrained individuals can supply more hours and may therefore find it attractive to opt for a more demanding career.

The investigated gadgets of WT are Fitness trackers, Smart watches, Smart glasses and Smart Clothing. The research investigates the interest of individuals into WT sponsored by the employer and their data-sharing attitude. Design/Methodology - The thesis uses a quantitative, online survey among individuals, which are 18 – 36 years old. The survey is threefold. First, individuals are questioned towards their tracking behavior and ownership of WT. Second, the likelihood to purchase WT is compared with the likelihood to request sponsored WT by an employer. Third, the data-sharing attitude of individuals is investigated. The survey was distributed via Social media and the data gathered via Qualtrics. The analysis was conducted with the statistics program SPSS. Findings - First, the proportion of individuals tracking data and the data tracked confirm the interest of individuals to receive personal insights through WT. Second, the likelihood to request WT when sponsored by an employer shows a statistically significant increase for Smart watches, but decrease for Fitness trackers. For owners of WT, the likelihood increased for all four WTs. Third, the data-sharing attitude of individuals highlighted, that Generation Y does not trust the employer’s objective. Research limitations – The main limitation is that the research is not representative for the whole Generation Y. There exist several definitions of Generation Y and only one definition is applied for this thesis. In addition, the sample was not geographically limited to specific countries. In addition, the survey covers only a limited number of gadgets. Based on the responses for a single gadget, one derives with implications for the whole category of Wearable Technology. In addition, the topic of data sharing is covered by general questions about WT and not retrieved for each of the four devices. Practical implications – By focusing on the individuals’ perspective the thesis provides insight into the attitude of the Generation Y towards the innovative technology of Wearables. The research creates awareness about the employer-employee relationship and the topics of trust and sharing attitude. Employers and companies are interested into the data tracked by individuals and can derive with insights on how to integrate WT at the workplace. Originality – The study focuses on the expectations and concerns of individuals towards WT, in comparison to the numerous studies highlighting the technological features.
