PrÃticas avaliativas na educaÃÃo de jovens e adultos em escolas da rede pÃblica de Fortaleza-CE: fator de inclusÃo escolar? / Evaluative Practice adopted in the Scene of the and Adults and Youth Education in Public Schools of Fortaleza: factor for its inclusion schoolar?Sheyla Maria Fontenele Macedo 12 September 2008 (has links)
The present research aims to supply theoretical subsidies for reflection in the field of the educational evaluation facing the practices adopted in the education of youth and adults in the initial series of basic education and if these benefit or not the exercise of the education right, focused on the permanence aspect, access and scholar inclusion of the pupil. So, the âweavingâ was disclosed in this essay among the historical conceptions of the evaluation in the scene of youth and adults education, of the individual and social subjectivity that supports the schooling culture formation, through its speech, dialog aspect, social relations and evaluation concerning the adopted pedagogic practice in YAE. The topic might be translated into the following question: the evaluative practice adopted in the scene of the and Adults and Youth Education in Public Schools of Fortaleza suggests the permanence process of the pupil in the school, corroborates for its inclusion in the heart of society and then, in the exercise of education right? The work is based on bibliographical, documental and realistic experiments research. Through the experiments, we tried to adopt, as instrumentals, the commonly applied survey to ten percent of the MUNICIPAL public school teachers and the focused group, applying with 06 students from Regional VI schools, where we tried to point the âmodus operandiâ of the evaluative practice concerning the possibility of compliance of the social role of including the pupil in the school and in the society.Th e act of digging and searching the thematic of the evaluation as a pedagogical practice in Youth and Adult Education allows the problem to occupy a significant epistemologic space, mainly when we refer to the several variable aspects that cross the work developed by the teacher in the construction of a humanized evaluative practice. After an excursion on the designated conceptions, we can announce it as one of the main final considerations, which the act of evaluating is tied to the formation of the internalized âhabitusâ culturally.

Using eXtreme Programming in a StudentEnvironment: A Case StudyBecker, Christian Heinrich January 2010 (has links)
With the advent of shorter time to market of software products there an increasing requirement for techniques and methods to improve the productivity levels in software development together with a requirement for increased flexibility and the introduction of late changes. This in turn has lead to the introduction of a set of techniques known as ―Agile methods which include one methodology known as ―eXtreme Programming. This is a collection of values, principles, and practices. Since these methods are becoming more common in industry, is has become more important to introduce these ideas in the undergraduate curriculum. This case study analysed whether or not it is possible to teach eXtreme Programming at a university by means of a course that presents a mixture of theory and practice within eXtreme programming. In this context, a case study was carried out to determine which of the practices of eXtreme Programming are more appropriate to university projects. The case study indicates that it is worth investing the effort to teach eXtreme Programming to students to enable them to apply eXtreme Programming or at least some of its practices in future business and university projects.

The role of informational cues in young adult males’ quality assessment of smart casual wear during purchase decision - makingNjagi, Ruth Kawira January 2014 (has links)
Apparel purchase is an everyday decision process for consumers and the decision is motivated by various
consumer needs. As an important aspect in the study of consumer behaviour, the link between South African
young adult male consumers’ perception of apparel quality, use of informational cues, and apparel
evaluation criteria needs to be established. The purpose of this study was to explore and describe the role of
intrinsic and extrinsic apparel features as informational cues on young adult males’ assessment of apparel
quality during purchase decision-making.
The quantitative research approach involved a structured questionnaire with Likert-type four-point scales to
measure the importance of informational cues in the quality assessment of smart casual wear. This study
involved a non-probability purposive sample of 330 young adult males between the ages of 24 and 36 living
in Pretoria and Johannesburg, Gauteng. The study included purposive and snowball sampling techniques.
Descriptive analyses were used to determine the importance of apparel features in the assessment of
apparel. Correlation analyses were conducted to explore relationships among the quality dimensions. Lastly,
exploratory analyses were done to measure the interaction of demographics and shopping behaviour with
the importance of apparel quality dimensions.
Results showed that South African young adult male consumers rank comfort most important in their quality
assessment criteria, next to durability, in assessment of smart casual apparel. The country where garments
are manufactured or assembled is the least important to the young adult South African males. The strongest
relationship among the various apparel dimensions existed between extrinsic features and aesthetic performance. The weakest relationship, although positively significant, existed between the extrinsic
features and functional performance. This suggests that to some extent, male apparel consumers form links
between apparel features as each feature to some extent influences the importance placed on other apparel
quality features.
Furthermore, findings suggest that male consumers differ in their apparel assessment criteria based on how
much money they have for apparel, and that income is an important socio-economic variable in apparel
purchase decision-making. Most of these male consumers, although not experts in the field of apparel
quality, considered it important to assess apparel for perceived quality during the pre-purchase phase of
consumer decision-making. In all, informational cues, although varying in importance, play a role in the
young adult male’s quality assessment of smart casual wear. / Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2014. / lk2014 / Consumer Science / MA / Unrestricted

Attitudes Toward Homosexuality : A Quantitative Study of Evaluative Adjectives in Digital Newspaper ArticlesSköld, Jonna January 2022 (has links)
In this study, societal attitudes toward sexual minorities are investigated through analyzing journalists’ use of evaluative adjectives in newspaper articles regarding famous homosexual couples compared to famous heterosexual couples. In this study, differences in attitudes between male and female journalists are also investigated. The aim is to investigate evaluative adjectives and how often they occur in order to find patterns that could indicate societal attitudes toward sexual minorities. The method used for this research was a close reading of the articles chosen and determining whether the evaluative adjectives were positive or negative in each specific context. The results were then normalized for the purpose of comparison between articles. The results of the study indicate that female journalists use more adjectives in general compared to male journalists. The results also indicate that journalists use more positive adjectives when writing about famous heterosexual couples, compared to famous homosexual couples. Also, male homosexual couples are portrayed more positively than female homosexual couples.

A Qualitative and Evaluative Study on Recruiting and Retaining Students in College Computer Science ProgramsGardner, Matthew 01 May 2013 (has links)
Computer science is a discipline that is increasing in importance and value in our society, yet we are still failing to graduate a sufficient number of students to keep up with the demand required in the United States economy. We research several ways to retain students. We also discuss ways to increase students’ interest in the major, i.e., those who normally would not know about computer science. We discuss ways to increase female participation as well as overall participation in the major.

Essays on the influence of experience and environment on behaviorCooke, Kevin 07 November 2018 (has links)
This dissertation explores how experience and environment impact behavior. In the first chapter, I provide behavioral foundations for a model of taste uncertainty with endogenous learning through consumption. In this setting, uncertainty is over an unobservable, subjective state space. Preference over lottery-menu pairs is sufficient to identify the state space and the learning process. In this model, the agent is viewed as if he learns the utility of an object upon its consumption. This information is used to improve choice from the follow-on menu. This implies a trade-off between consumption value and information leading to experimentation. I provide a behavioral definition of experimentation. While the literature focuses on identifying subjective states through a demand for flexibility, I show that experimentation also (partially) identifies taste uncertainty.
The second chapter explores the potential for social networks to affect decisions of political leaders. To this end we construct a database linking European royal kinship networks, monarchies, and wars to study the effect of family ties on conflict. To establish causality, we exploit decreases in connection caused by apolitical deaths of network important individuals. These deaths are associated with substantial increases in the frequency and duration of war. We provide evidence that these deaths affect conflict only through changing the kinship network. Over our period of interest, the percentage of European monarchs with kinship ties increased threefold. Together, these findings help explain the well-documented decrease in European war frequency.
The final chapter builds on the robust finding from the psychology literature that the co-presentation of products causes consumers to associate them. Associated products are evaluated more similarly. Supposing that agents behave according to this evidence, I axiomatically derive a tractable utility model of this association effect. In an application, I study a two-product monopolist that can strategically choose whether or not to offer his products under the same brand. I demonstrate that psychological association can provide strict incentives for either brand extension or brand differentiation depending on the distribution of product valuations in the market. Appropriate branding strategies allow firms to extract more surplus from consumers when psychological association is present.

In Pursuit of a Balanced System of Educational Assessment: An Evaluation of the Pre-Kindergarten Through 8th Grade Math Assessment System in One Massachusetts Regional School DistrictDetweiler, Rita Joyce 01 May 2012 (has links)
School leaders in the United States live in an educational era characterized by a desire for and expectation that all students attain high levels of academic proficiency. There is an increased reliance on all types of educational assessment as a key component to help school leaders attain that goal. The purpose of this study is to understand how school administrators can foster a balanced system of assessment at the local level to genuinely harness the power of assessment to enhance student learning. The significance of the study rests in the fact that there is a general failure of states and school districts to conceive of educational assessment as a system that operates at all levels of the educational system from the classroom up to the district and state level. The findings of this study support the efforts of a group of administrators to develop a balanced system of math assessments in their school district.
