Event Tourism Economical and tourstic impacts on regional economy : A study of Polish regions preparations for UEFA EURO 2012

Zima, Kamil January 2011 (has links)
The aim of the study was to examine what the economic and touristic impacts of the sports event - UEFA EURO 2012 - will have on Polish regions. The essay was limited to some specific regions in Poland. Those regions were Gniewino, Malbork, Kalisz, Legionowo, Pommerian Province, Cracow, Olsztyn and Zamosc. The Football Championships that will be held in 2012 are dependent of the big amount of football fans that will came and spend their money in Polish regions. Thanks to the increased consumption this creates demand for local services and products. The generator of spending is the tourism multiplier that is the main link to the touristic expenditure. The multiplier is a catalyst of the region that creates jobs, growing yield, promotion of the region and improvement of its infrastructure and leisure facilities. This is considered as an advantage from an economical and touristic point of view. The economical and tourstic benefits are different for every mentioned region in the study because of their location and link to the UEFA EURO 2012. This study shows only how the different eight regions prepare for the UEFA EURO 2012 and what they think that the negative and positive economical and touristic impacts will gain them. The study gives only a short brief of the football event of what can happen.

Stockholmsstrategin och evenemangen : En kvalitativ studie om två eventföretag och Stockholmsstrategin

Braafnäs, Lisa, Brihall, Evelina January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether an event company could work on the marketing project the Stockholm Strategy. Based on theories of events and strategies and using theories about perception, hospitality and meeting industry and consultants, we aim to analyze and problematize the above event companies and the Stockholm Strategy. The methods which have been used to obtain a picture of these two companies are structured qualitative interviews with open questions and location-based, activity-based and open observation of events. Each of them has arranged. In the collection of empirical data regarding the Stockholm strategy was used on the document the Stockholm strategy itself and a qualitative structured interview with the project manager for the project. Also at that interview we used open-ended questions. Our aim is to see if it is possible for the two companies to be a part of the Stockholm strategy, if they would serve something to work towards the objectives of the strategy. The general result is that both companies would not directly benefit from following the Stockholm Strategy, and that they are not currently required to work towards promoting Stockholm, without taking on jobs from clients.

Efficient Pattern Search in Large, Partial-Order Data Sets

Nichols, Matthew January 2008 (has links)
The behaviour of a large, distributed system is inherently complex. One step towards making this behaviour more understandable to a user involves instrumenting the system and collecting data about its execution. We can model the data as traces (representing various sequential entities in the system such as single-threaded processes) that contain both events local to the trace and communication events involving another trace. Visualizing this data provides a modest benefit to users as it makes basic interactions in the system clearer and, with some user effort, more complex interactions can be determined. Unfortunately, visualization by itself is not an adequate solution, especially for large numbers of events and complex interactions among traces. A search facility has the ability to make this event data more useful. Work has been done previously on various frameworks and algorithms that could form the core of such a search facility; however, various shortcomings in the completeness of the frameworks and in the efficiency of the algorithms resulted in an inconsistent, incomplete, and inefficient solution. This thesis takes steps to remedy this situation. We propose a provably-complete framework for determining precedence between sets of events and propose additions to a previous pattern-specification language so it can specify a wider variety of search patterns. We improve the efficiency of the existing search algorithm, and provide a new, more efficient, algorithm that processes a pattern in a fundamentally different way. Furthermore, the various proposed improvements have been implemented and are analysed empirically.

The strategy to develop the cultural events in south Taiwan-take to build up Weiwuying Center for the arts for example

Chiang, Lin-chun 02 September 2010 (has links)
Domestic arts environment, from the Republic of China 76 years to complete the construction of the National Chiang Kai Shek Cultural Center, since the country have no longer the same size, function and level of performances of world-class facilities, which also led to the implementation of two kinds of negative cultural dilemma: First, the Art cultural groups can not get enough professional performance space; Second, the imbalance caused by north-south culture, have been seriously affecting millions of people south of performing arts activities and participation. Therefore, how the government, enterprise and civil society promote the arts and culture strategy with what their role after Weiwuying Center for the arts facilities comparable to world-class hardware settings that not only in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, and even the whole of Taiwan arts industry through the Weiwuying Center for the arts of the set. There are more profound in the vertical solid foundation, also more in the horizontal long-term development. In the other hand, tend to Taiwan's cultural policy has been set up hardware facilities, and the improvement of the software is far behind. Thus, how the strategies effective develop this subject could not be ignored. These two main axes are the most goals that author have explored. In this dissertation, through literature analysis, field research, as well as questionnaires and other information, documents and relevant information collected at domestic and abroad literatures to explore international arts and cultural center in the ownership of hardware facilities, government, enterprise and civil society to play their roles and promote cultural events, arts groups and to get the proper attention and treatment. In the other hand the use of related measures and strategies to effectively promote the long-term development of the arts industry. It have found that arts activities to promote the whole community which must work together to obtain various results, if all links (government, business and civil) are not effectively connected, sui generis, it is like a tree's roots, stems, and leave chips that the tree did not possible to survive. Therefore, repeated emphasis of this article, when the world-class performing arts center have been well-constructed, the lack of a combination of the three co-promotion of thinking, a common marketing strategy, this way arts and cultural activities to ensure sustainable maintenance energy to grow. But it is necessary to emphasis that evaluates the arts and cultural policy with some difficulty, but we can clearly know the difficult point, strategy setting and execution really be able to close Taiwan's current difficulties encountered, and elaborate a synergistic benefit. The study results could provide reference materials for arts activities relevant administrative agencies, concerned about the cultural activities of various sectors and government agencies in Taiwan.

The Analysis of the Causes and the Variations on Ozone and Related Air Pollutants in Taitung Area

Kuo, Chien-cheng 06 September 2006 (has links)
ABSTRACT Taitung area was commonly seen as a particularly clean environment. But the air quality has diminished lately similar to that seen in some parts of the populated western area in Taiwan, with ozone (O3) concentration levels rising every year. Because ozone is a byproduct of photochemistry, its accumulation is not only related to the discharge of local pollutants such as nitrogen oxide compounds (NOx), volatile organic compounds (VOC) and the introduction of external pollutants, but also related to the meteorological conditions. This research began with comparing the long-term trends of ozone concentration level and related pollutants in the Taitung area with those found in other survey stations spread in Taiwan. Through factor analysis, the relationship between air pollutants and meteorological parameters are analyzed. Finally, a screening of the events of abnormal ozone concentrations, followed with detailed analysis of the hourly data during these events and the discussion of the possible reasons for the comparatively poor air quality during these events and their correlations with seasons and meteorological conditions. Analysis of the trends in monthly averaged concentration of ozone shows that the annual rate of change (AR) is increasing at all stations under this study, except the Guanyin station being -0.18%. Taitung station has relatively higher levels every spring (March - May) and fall (October ¡V November); the annual rate of change is higher than other east area in Taiwan and the Hengchun station. These seasonal variation (SV) shows a progressively increasing north to south trend, Hengchun station being the highest and Taitung station being the second highest, indicates that concentrations of ozone are influenced by seasonal changes. By using the method of factor analysis to analyze the relation among ozone concentrations, meteorological parameters and pollution parameters, resulted in a direct relationship to the wind speeds over the four seasons. The results show a negative relationship to the atmospheric pressure during summer. The ozone concentrations of the Taitung station show a direct relationship to the Hualian station, which indicates the north to south dispersion relationship. The Analysis of the abnormal event also shows that typhoons may be an important carrier for transporting external pollutants into the area.

Hung, Yu-jing 06 June 2007 (has links)
Hosting mega events such as athletics and international exposition can brought huge tour business opportunities for the city and also accelerated constructing a modern infrastructure, even promoted a city rank into international fine reputation. Kaohsiung City becomes a host city of world games 2009 luckily which giving the city another transmutes the chance of growth. Kaohsiung City has natural condition to develop sightseeing and tourism, but attaches importance to industry and fishery development as principle over a long period of times. Although the development of light heavy industry has been bringing much employment opportunities for Kaohsiung City, the lack is molding tourism environment, modernizing city construction, internationalization, development of tourism support facilities and city cultural, and haven't had organization and programming of the tourism. The research first reviewed references including the strategic plans used in other countries and then proposed the important factors of tourism development and mega events. Next, it based on the proposal and used Delphi Method to achieve the common consensus of tourism strategy among the government, tourism industries, and the experts in order to develop the complete tourism strategy suitable for Kaohsiung City. The results reveal that the improvement in highest demand for the tourism in Kaohsiung is to integrate the service facilities, transportation services, and marketing individually and to establish cooperative relationship among them. In addition, the related tourism service systems should be well-qualified, enriched, and internationalized. It is also a crucial issue for Kaohsiung city to increase the amounts of visitors for overnight stay. Kaohsiung city government should cooperate with other nearby cities to develop local tour packages for attracting international tourists effectively.

Sedimentary environments and processes in a shallow, Gulf Coast Estuary-Lavaca Bay, Texas.

Bronikowski, Jason Lee 15 November 2004 (has links)
Sedimentation rates in sediment cores from Lavaca Bay have been high within the last 1-2 decays within the central portion of the bay, with small fluctuations from river input. Lavaca Bay is a broad, flat, and shallow (<3 m) microtidal estuary within the upper Matagorda Bay system. Marine derived sediment enters the system from Matagorda Bay, while two major rivers (Lavaca & Navidad) supply the majority of terrestrially derived sediment. With continuous sediment supply the bay showed no bathymetric change until the introduction of the shipping channel. Processes that potentially lead to sediment transport and resuspension within the bay include wind driven wave resuspension, storm surges, wind driven blowouts, and river flooding. These processes were assessed using X-radiographs, grain size profiles, and 210Pb and 137Cs geochronology of sediment diver cores. In six cores the upper 10 cm of the seabed has been physically mixed, where as the rest showed a continuous sediment accumulation rate between 0.84-1.22 cm/yr. Sidescan sonar and subbottom chirp sonar data coupled with sedimentological core and grab samples were used to map the location and delineate the sedimentary facies within the estuarine system in depths >1 m. Five sedimentary facies were identified in Lavaca Bay and adjacent bays, they are: 1) estuarine mud; 2) fluvial sand; 3) beach sand; 4) bay mouth sand; and 5) oyster biofacies. Of the five facies, Lavaca Bay consists primarily of estuarine mud (68%). Pre-Hurricane and post-Hurricane Claudette cores were obtained to observe the impact to the sedimentary processes. The north and south Lavaca Bay were eroded by 10 cm and 2-3 cm, respectively. Cox Bay and Keller Bay saw a net deposition of 2-3 cm.

Selenium as paleo-oceanographic proxy: a first assessmen

Mitchell, Kristen Ann 05 April 2011 (has links)
Selenium (Se) is an essential trace element, which, with multiple oxidation states and six stable isotopes, has the potential to be a powerful paleo-environmental proxy. In this study, Se concentrations and isotopic compositions were analyzed in a suite of about 120 samples of fine-grained marine sedimentary rocks and sediments spanning the entire Phanerozoic. While the selenium concentrations vary greatly (0.22 to 72 ppm), the δ82/76Se values fall in a fairly narrow range from -1 to +1 , with the exception of laminated black shales from the New Albany Shale formation (Devonian), which have δ82/76Se values of up to +2.20 . Black Sea sediments (Holocene) and sedimentary rocks from the Alum Shale formation (Late Cambrian) have Se/TOC ratios and δ82/76Se values close to those found in modern marine plankton (1.72x10-6±1.55x10-7 mol/mol and 0.42±0.22 ). (Note: TOC = total organic carbon.) For the other sedimentary sequences, the Se/TOC ratios indicate enrichment in selenium relative to marine plankton. Additional input of isotopically light terrigenous Se (δ82/76Se ≈ -0.42 ) may explain the Se data measured in recent Arabian Sea sediments (Pleistocene). The very high Se concentrations in sedimentary sequences that include the Cenomanian-Turonian Ocean Anoxic Event (OAE) 2 possibly reflect a significantly enhanced input of volcanogenic Se to the oceans. As the latter has an isotopic composition (δ82/76Se ≈ 0 ) not greatly different from marine plankton, the volcanogenic source does not impart a distinct signature to the sedimentary Se isotope record. The lowest δ82/76Se values are observed in the OAE2 samples from Demerara Rise and Cape Verde Basin cores (δ82/76Se = -0.95 to 1.16 ) and are likely due to fractionation associated with microbial or chemical reduction of Se oxyanions in the euxinic water column. In contrast, a limiting availability of seawater Se during periods of increased organic matter burial is thought to be responsible for the elevated δ82/76Se values and low Se/TOC ratios in the black shales of the New Albany Shale formation. Overall, our results suggest that Se data may provide useful information on paleodepositional conditions, when included in a multi-proxy approach.

Event Models : An Evaluation Framework

Egilsson, Guðlaugur Stefán January 1999 (has links)

Event based programming is an important metaphor used in a variety of applications. Research and practice in this field comes primarily from two distinct sources, component software and databases. In both those fields, the need for asynchronous notifications has led to the specification and implementation of event models, but with somewhat different emphasis.

This dissertation defines an evaluation framework for evaluating event models. In doing so, it defines several factors that are important when reviewing different event models with respect to implementing applications or components that require event notification mechanisms.

It has been suggested that the event models defined for COM and CORBA can each be used as the basis for implementing advanced event services. The framework presented in this dissertation is used to evaluate these two event models with respect to their capability to support an advanced event service originating from active database research.

Visualization of Composite Events in Active Databases

Guðnason, Ólafur Pálmi January 2000 (has links)

The composite event detection process in different consumption modes has been proven to be difficult to comprehend. It is believed that visualization of this process can make it easier to grasp. In this final year project, a prototype of a visualization tool that visually displays the composite event detection is developed. The prototype uses time graphs to display the composite events and the chronicle consumption mode is used in the detection of the composite events. Animation is used in the prototype when the composite events are visualized, as it is believed that animation can be of help when learning complex algorithms, such as consumption modes. The prototype is then compared with other similar visualization tools. This prototype addresses factors, which have been identified as playing a central role in the visualization of composite events, that other similar visualization tools do not.
