Analysis of the performance of an optimization model for time-shiftable electrical load scheduling under uncertainty

Olabode, John A. 12 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited / To ensure sufficient capacity to handle unexpected demands for electric power, decision makers often over-estimate expeditionary power requirements. Therefore, we often use limited resources inefficiently by purchasing more generators and investing in more renewable energy sources than needed to run power systems on the battlefield. Improvement of the efficiency of expeditionary power units requires better managing of load requirements on the power grids and, where possible, shifting those loads to a more economical time of day. We analyze the performance of a previously developed optimization model for scheduling time-shiftable electrical loads in an expeditionary power grids model in two experiments. One experiment uses model data similar to the original baseline data, in which expected demand and expected renewable production remain constant throughout the day. The second experiment introduces unscheduled demand and realistic fluctuations in the power production and the demand distributions data that more closely reflect actual data. Our major findings show energy grid power production composition affects which uncertain factor(s) influence fuel con-sumption, and uncertainty in the energy grid system does not always increase fuel consumption by a large amount. We also discover that the generators running the most do not always have the best load factor on the grid, even when optimally scheduled. / Lieutenant Commander, United States Navy

Crônicas da guerra na Itália: estudo sobre o estilo de Rubem Braga e a história dos pracinhas / Crônicas da Guerra na Itália: study about style of Rubem Braga and the pracinhas history

Ireno, Rafael da Cruz 10 November 2016 (has links)
It is an investigation into the author\'s style, which has a unique pace in the modern Brazilian literature, as well as into problems of representation of the Expeditionary Forces participation in World War II, especially because it occurred alongside the democratic powers, whilst Brazil was under the rule of the Estado Novo dictatorship. The analysis will focus on a series of internal tensions of this anthology: the lyricism and the social concerns; the dynamic between the particular and the universal, the effect of censorship etc, in order to understand to which extent these elements impacted the aesthetic solutions Braga adopted to tell Mestre Pracinha\'s story.

A participação de teuto-brasileiros na FEB (1944-1945): memória e identidade / The participation of the teutonic-brazilian in Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB): memory and identy

Iervolino, Ana Paula 30 August 2011 (has links)
When Brazil participated in the Second World War, the Brazilian immigrant communities that were related to the Axis Power suffered persecutions by governmental authorities as well as attacks made by the press and part of the population. In the German communities there were ideals based on Pan-Germanism including the use of German language and customs; feelings of belonging to Germany were common among its inhabitants. Beside other members of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB), people from these communities were also drafted. The research, based on different sources especially oral and written testimonies focuses on identity questions about these combatants.

Underrättelseproblematik inom modern upprorsbekämpning

Johansson, Rick Peter January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to examine the JP 3-24 doctrine against a theoretical basis and investigate how the intelligence problems of counterinsurgency inAfghanistanrelate to the doctrine. The aim is also to link the problem to its relevance forSwedensinceSwedenleans heavily onU.S.experience in intelligence matters. The thesis is grounded on a broad theoretical basis which is operationalized in an analysis in which five dimensions of a people-centered perspective are applied to the empirical data. The empirical data is a subjective selection of examples fromAfghanistanbetween 2006-2012.The result shows that despite JP 3-24’s theoretical and doctrinal solid foundation, manyU.S.units are still improperly focused. The relationship between theory, doctrine and practice shows a clear correlation between following the doctrine and maximizing the probability of victory in counterinsurgency. The overarching conclusion is that a new approach to the training and preparation of units is required, where resources should be redirected to cultural understanding, better database systems, method revision, analyst training, coordination of information integration and intelligence management and leadership.

The American Expeditionary Forces in World War I: The Rock of the Marne.

Coode, Stephen L. 03 May 2008 (has links) (PDF)
American participation in the First World War developed slowly throughout 1917 to a mighty torrent during the last six months of the war. United States participation undoubtedly helped not only repel but to stop all German assaults on the Western Front: it had substantially aided in defeating Imperial Germany. Through primary and secondary sources a timeline, as well as a few of the more significant events, has been established following the United States' involvement in the war. Special attention has been focused on the United States Third Infantry Division and its part in the July 15- 17, 1918 Second Battle of the Marne. The Third Infantry Division would see the war throughout its remaining battles and aid in the occupation of Germany. However, it is most famous for the Marne battle.

Tactical decision aid for unmanned vehicles in maritime missions

Duhan, Daniel P. 03 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited / An increasing number of unmanned vehicles (UV) are being incorporated into maritime operations as organic elements of Expeditionary and Carrier Strike Groups for development of the recognized maritime picture. This thesis develops an analytically-based planning aid for allocating UVs to missions. Inputs include the inventory of UVs, sensors, their performance parameters, and operational scenarios. Operations are broken into mission critical functions: detection, identification, and collection. The model output assigns aggregated packages of UVs and sensors to one of the three functions within named areas of interest. A spreadsheet model uses conservative time-speed-distance calculations, and simplified mathematical models from search theory and queuing theory, to calculate measures of performance for possible assignments of UVs to missions. The spreadsheet model generates a matrix as input to a linear integer program assignment model which finds the best assignment of UVs to missions based on the user inputs and simplified models. The results provide the mission planner with quantitatively-based recommendations for unmanned vehicle mission tasking in challenging scenarios. / Lieutenant, United States Navy

Vliv klíčových faktorů dynamiky vývoje sněhové pokrývky v podmínkách Šumavy / Effect of key factors on dynamics of a snow cover evolution in Šumava Mts. conditions

Fliegl, Ondřej January 2013 (has links)
Master thesis is concerned with the subject of a snow cover dynamics (focused on snow melting) and of the detailed analysis of each physical-geographic factors effect on its character. Knowledges published in the domestic and foreign scientific literature are confronted with the data acquired within a number of expeditionary snow monitoring campaignes carried out during winter periods 2011/2012 a 2012/2013 in headwaters of rivers of Šumava (Šumava Mts., southwestern Czechia). Mobile field survey was done in a number of time horizons within the broadly conceived research in the upper Otava River basin concentrated on the assessment of the retention potential in headstream areas.
