Med folket för flottan : En kritisk diskursanalys av hur tre svenska dagstidningar skrivit om pansarbåtsföreningen mellan 1912–1914 / With the people for the navy

Gustafsson, Markus January 2022 (has links)
With the people for the navy This essay will examine how three Swedish newspapers wrote about pansarbåtsföreningen between 1912-1914 and to investigate if the way they wrote about the organisation changed in the mentioned timeframe. This essay will utilise critical discourse analysis by Norman Fairclough as it’s defined and explained by Marianne Winther Jörgensen and Louise Phillips. This essay will therefor investigate the text, the discursive practice and the social practice in news articles from Svenska Dagbladet, Dagens Nyheter and Aftonbladet. These newspapers were chosen as they had written the most about pansarbåtsföreningen in the given timeframe by a considerable margin.   This essay found that Svenska Dagbladet were generally supportive towards pansarbåtsföreningen, and they became more vocal about said support after the outbreak of world war one. Dagens Nyheter had mixed opinions towards pansarbåtsföreningen. They were mainly critical of all the commotion which it had caused politically as they argued that it could make Sweden a target in the event of a large-scale conflict in and around the Baltic sea. Aftonbladet were continually very supportive of pansarbåtsföreningen, even going as far as to telling their readers to join the organisation and help its efforts.

Beyond bigger and better: Gilbert White and America's new approach to floodplain management

Rumsey, Brian Edward 01 May 2010 (has links)
Until the early twentieth century, Americans generally responded to the risk of floods by building protective levees. By the late 1800s, this approach was firmly entrenched in federal policy. Because of the singular focus on levees, floods actually became more severe, with a prime example occurring in 1927. The floods of 1927 demonstrated that levees-only was an untenable policy, but a new approach to managing flood risk took several decades to fully materialize. The geographer Gilbert Fowler White played a central role in developing the nation’s new approach to floods. In his 1945 doctoral dissertation, White laid out a multiaceted approach to flood risks that promoted the accommodation of nature at times, rather than relying exclusively on ever-greater works of engineering to address the risk of flood. The passage of the National Flood Insurance Act in 1968 demonstrates the acceptance of White’s ideas into federal policy.

Avelin, Denise, Kvist, Ida January 2023 (has links)

Religionskunskap i lågstadiet : En kvalitativ studie om F-3 lärares resonemang om ämnet religionskunskap / Religious knowledge in primary school : A qualitative study of teachers' reasoning on religion as a school subject

Toivainen, Rebecca, Forsberg, Pontus January 2021 (has links)

Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ye : For Chorus and Orchestra

Salicco, Betty Lou Everett, 1925- 12 1900 (has links)
This composition is based off the poem of the same name by Richard Sale. No particular harmonic plan was envisioned for Parts I, II and IV, because it was necessary for the harmonic scheme to be as fluid as the poetry. If the ideas of the text were similar some attempt was made to use a similar or modified melodic line or harmonic scheme. The structure of the text became the structure of the work. The motivating factor is the text, hence the many meter changes in order to keep pace with the poetry.
