Service Worker Burnout and Turnover Intentions: Roles of Person-Job Fit, Servant Leadership, and Customer Orientation

Babakus, Emin, Yavas, Ugur, Ashill, Nicholas J. 01 January 2011 (has links)
This study examines the effects of customer orientation and servant leadership on frontline employees' burnout and, subsequently, on their turnover intentions. Also investigated in the study is the intervening role of person-job fit in the process. Data collected from 530 frontline bank employees in New Zealand serve as the study setting. Results show that both customer orientation and servant leadership significantly reduce burnout and ultimately turnover intentions. Results also show that person-job fit mediates the influences of customer orientation and servant leadership on burnout and turnover intentions. Implications of the results are discussed and future research avenues are offered.

Validation of the students’ life satisfaction scale among a sample of children in south africa: multi-group analysis across three language groups

Mulalo, Mpilo January 2020 (has links)
Magister Artium (Psychology) - MA(Psych) / While research into children’s subjective well-being (SWB) has advanced over the past decade, there is a paucity of cross-cultural research, particularly in South Africa. Moreover, while the adaptation and validation of instruments in English and Afrikaans are evident, other language groups have not received much attention. This study aimed to provide structural validation of the Students’ Life Satisfaction Scale across a sample of children in South Africa using multi-group analysis across three language groups (Setswana, Xitsonga, and Tshivenda). Within this process, the study aimed to use multi-group confirmatory factor analysis (MGCFA) to compare the structural validity and measurement invariance of the three language groups. Finally, the study aimed to determine the convergent validity of the three language groups of the SLSS by regressing them onto the single-item Overall Life Satisfaction Scale (OLS). The study uses data from Wave 3 of the South African Children’s Worlds Study and included a sample of 625 children across the language groups (Setswana: n = 187; Sesotho: n = 170; and Tshivenda: n = 268). For the overall pooled sample an excellent fit was obtained for a single-factor model, including one error-covariance. Standardised regression weights of the items ranged between .43 and .73. MGCFA revealed an acceptable fit for the configural model (unconstrained loadings); however, metric (constrained loadings) and scalar invariance (constrained loadings and intercepts) was not tenable. However, through the application of partial constraints metric invariance was tenable when Item 5 (I like my life) was freely estimated, while scalar invariance was tenable when Item 1 (I enjoy my life) and Item 5 (I like my life) were freely estimated. The results suggest that the Items: My life is going well; I have a good life; The things in my life are excellent; and I am happy with my life, are comparable by correlations, regression coefficients, and latent mean scores across the three language groups. Convergent validity using the OLS was obtained for the pooled sample and across the language groups. The key contribution of the study is establishing that the Setswana, Sesotho, and Tshivenda translated and adapted versions of the SLSS are valid for use within the South African context to measure children’s SWB, and that they can be grouped together in an overall pooled sample.

Resource Requirements Determination (Based on Statistical Methods)

Howard, Robert L. 01 May 1971 (has links)
Two methods of determining resource requirements at an Air Force maintenance depot were developed. The first method is designed for new workloads and is based on infinite queuing theory formulas. Tables have been developed for this method. The second method is designed for workload with, at minimum, several months of historical data. An optimum fit test was designed to aid in fitting and smoothing the empirical data to the normal distribution. These data are then input to simulation model for determination of resource requirements. (86 pages)

Spectroscopie à haute résolution de molécules organiques d'intérêt astrophysique et atmosphérique contenant un ou deux rotateurs internes. / High resolution spectroscopy of organic molecules of astrophysical and atmospheric interest containing one or two internal rotors

Jabri, Atef 28 November 2016 (has links)
During my thesis, I studied five molecules of astrophysical and atmospheric interest using high-resolution spectroscopy in the spectral regions of microwave, millimeterwave and far infrared. These molecules are methyl thioformate CH3SCH(O), dimethyl sulfide(CH3)2S, methacrolein CH3C(CHO)CH2, vinyl acetate CH3C(O)OCHCH2 and butadienylacetate CH3C(O)O(CH)3CH2. All of their spectra have in common a large amplitude motion, the internal rotation of the methyl group(s) CH3 leading to a splitting of the lines. Then, iused a specific theoretical modeling for each molecule in order to reproduce their spectra at experimental accuracy and to determine a set of spectroscopic parameters with very highprecision.Methyl thioformate and dimethyl sulfide are potentially detectable in the interstellar medium(MIS) as they represent the sulfur analogues of methyl formate CH3OCH(O) and dimethylether (CH3)2O, two molecules relatively abundant in the MIS. I performed a complete spectroscopic study in laboratory in order to provide astrophysicists with lists of frequencies and intensities of lines, which enable them to exploit the observed spectra in the MIS.Methacrolein is one of the compounds of the oxidation of isoprene emitted in the troposphereand plays an important role in the chemistry of the earth's atmosphere. Our studies in themicrowave range enables us to better determine its molecular structure which is useful inorder to better understand its stability. Finally, two ester molecules have been studied in the microwave spectral regions between2 and 40 GHz. The study of the microwave spectrum of vinyl acetate CH3COOCHCH2 is completed and the spectrum of two isomers of butadienyl acetate CH3COO(CH)3CH2 is studied for the first time.In addition to the validation of quantum chemistry calculations, this study allowed a better under standing of the evolution of potential barrier values du to internal rotation as a function of chemical structure.

Evropeizace environmentální politiky v Nizozemsku / Europeanisation of environmental policy in the Netherlands

Cimalová, Kateřina January 2021 (has links)
Integration in the European Union (EU) in terms of the legal as well as economic spheres has grown in depth, scope and speed since its establishment. The EU has significantly affected various fields of policies within its member states, including the environment. This is understood as the 'Europeanisation process'. The Netherlands, considered one of the pioneering countries to establish environmental measures, has approximately 80% of its legislation in the environmental field derived from European legislation. The thesis seeks to answer how Dutch environmental policy has been affected by the EU over the past twenty years. The implementation process of three environmental directives is analysed concerning water, biodiversity and air, to understand this process. The concept of Europeanisation and the related theory of goodness of fit is applied to argue that the implementation process of European environmental directives in the Netherlands is effective if there are no major adjustments necessary in the national setting, i.e. there is no policy or institutional misfit between domestic and European legislation, and no veto players impede the process. On the other hand, the implementation process is significantly more complicated if the directive needs extensive transformations. It is concluded that...

How an Organization's Environmental Orientation Impacts Environmental Performance and its Resultant Financial Performance through Green Computing Hiring Practices: An Empirical Investigation of the Natural Resource-Based View of the Firm

Aken, Andrew 01 December 2010 (has links) (PDF)
This dissertation uses the logic embodied in Strategic Fit Theory, the Natural Resource-Based View of the Firm (NRBV), strategic human resource management, and other relevant literature streams to empirically demonstrate how the environmental orientation of a firm's strategy impacts their environmental performance and resultant financial performance through the firm's Information Technology hiring practices. Specifically, it was hypothesized that firms with a strong relationship between the environmental orientation of their strategy and their green computing hiring practices will achieve higher environmental performance, and, as a result, higher levels of financial performance than firms lacking such fit. The organization's environmental orientation was measured via content analysis of the annual report texts (ARTs). Environmental performance was measured using KLD's award-winning environmental performance metrics. I triangulated across efficiency, effectiveness, and market-based metrics to capture a more holistic measure of the firm's financial performance using data from Compustat/Research Insight. The firm's green computing hiring practices were measured utilizing a web content data mining application that pulled job ads for computing graduates and then extracted the environmentally-oriented skills identified in such ads using content analytic techniques. Various control variables were employed to eliminate possible alternative explanations of my research findings. A number of statistical and analytical techniques were used to assess the nature and strength of the relationships in my theoretical model as are articulated in the proposed hypotheses. The sample size of firms is fairly large, thus increasing the statistical power of the empirical tests. Previous empirical testing of the relationship between environmental strategy and financial performance is still in the developmental stages and has produced mixed results, partly because important intervening mechanisms, such as green computing hiring practices, has not received adequate attention in the empirical literature. The combination of using a large sample of real world firms, a powerful combination of qualitative and quantitative methodological techniques to tap into key trace evidence not available through other methodological techniques, and leveraging an award-winning environmental data set has enhanced the robustness of the empirical findings in addressing this important gap in the literature. The results of the analyses show that there is a strong relationship between an organization's environmental posturing and its environmental performance. Additionally, this effect is mediated by the organization's environmental hiring practices, indicating that implementing the organization's environmental strategy through its hiring practices is important in achieving improved environmental performance. The current research also shows that there is a strong and positive relationship between an organization's environmental performance and financial performance. Surprisingly, these relationships are not significantly impacted by the organization's industry affiliation, which broadens the generalizability of the results of this study.

Attracting Talent in North of Sweden : A qualitative study on the extent of Person-Organization Fit and Employer Branding for the purpose of talent attraction

Andersson, Olivia, Karbalai, Zara January 2023 (has links)
Companies in the North of Sweden are expressing big difficulties to acquire the right competency and the right people to fill voids in their organization. The purpose of this research paper was to gain an understanding of how companies in the north work with selected contributing factors, affecting their ability to attract talent. Starting off we gained perspective on how companies define talent and which talent management approach they implement. From there we learned to which extent they prioritize people fitting into the company’s identity/values and work with communicating with talents by displaying themselves as an attractive employer. Our attempt was to uncover any underlying behavior or beliefs within this region contributing to why this region, in particular, is experiencing difficulties in attracting talent. To reach these understandings, we conducted a case study holding six in-depth interviews with different companies in various locations within the region “Norrland”. By using the thematic analysis method, we concluded that businesses have attitudes regarding the nature of talent and how it should be managed which limits their view of who is considered as a competent potential employee. Moreover, we found that the majority of businesses operating the north to a relatively high extent prioritize their relationship with their employees. However, they do not work to a high extent with the creation of a strong employer brand, possibly contributing to the situation as it is perceived in the north.

Rekryterares upplevda utmaningar : En kvalitativ studie om rekryteringsprocessen och eventuella felrekryteringar / Recruiters perceived challenges : A qualitative study of the recruitment process and possible wrong fit recruitments

Olausson, Jonathan, Elmér, Nellie January 2023 (has links)
