Mediational Roles of Personality Factors and Vengeful Rumination in the Development of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Crostley, Jeremy T. 08 1900 (has links)
Considerable research has demonstrated a link between thoughts of revenge, or vengeful rumination, and the development of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, particularly in situations involving interpersonal trauma. Personality factors have been related to both vengefulness and PTSD. No study to date has simultaneously examined the unique contributions of vengefulness and personality factors in the development of PTSD symptoms. Therefore, the present study addressed these questions in an inpatient sample by comparing contributions of the Big Five personality factors and vengeful rumination to the development of PTSD symptoms through correlation, hierarchical regression, and omnibus regression analyses. Results showed that Neuroticism predicted PTSD symptoms better than other personality factors, that Neuroticism and Agreeableness predicted vengeful rumination in opposite directions, and that personality factors and vengeful rumination each added unique variance in the prediction of PTSD symptoms. Future directions and implications are discussed.

Pochopení tolerance korupce: záleží na osobnostech? / Understanding Corruption Tolerance: Does Personality Matter?

Salmanova, Aygul January 2021 (has links)
Attitudes towards corruption have been attributed to a broad range of macro-level and, to a limited extent, micro-level antecedents. Neglected is academic research on the effect of individual-level psychological factors on the attitudes toward corruption. To fill this gap, this article aims to explore the impact of individuals' personality traits on their willingness to justify corrupt acts, drawing on data from World Values Survey Wave 6. By applying fixed effects models, the study finds that two of five personality traits - consciousness and agreeableness are significantly and negatively associated with individuals' willingness to justify corrupt exchanges. Additionally, the study results show that the association between the personality traits and corruption tolerance varies from country to country: openness to experience, for instance, was significantly and negatively associated with corruption tolerance in Germany, whereas this trend was not observed in the Dutch sample. Among the control variables, age and sex were significant predictors of corruption tolerance as well as the Dutch were less willing to justify corrupt acts than Germans. The study provides empirical and practical implications as well as suggestion for future research.

Anknytningsstilar och kön i förhållande till dimensionerna i Big Five

Escobar Despessailles, Nadia January 2021 (has links)

Spel som rekryteringsverktyg inom IT / Games as a recruitment tool for IT

Marklund, Sanna, Dyrhage, Max January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to find out where and how a game can be used in the recruitment process within the IT industry. To investigate this studies were made of the recruitment process Swedish companies in the IT industry, research and theories of game design and the relationship between general personality traits and the gaming behavior. Qualitative interviews with recruiters and game researcher and a study of the relationship between personality traits and the game's personality has been implemented. This has been combined with the literature in recruitment and games to identify recommendations on the continuation of game design for a game aimed towards recruitment. The study shows that a game should be adjusted to where in the recruitment process you aim to use it. The study showed two parts od the recruitment process where a game could be in use, for one a game could fit in the collection of candidates for a recruitment process to attract candidates or brand the company and for second to assess a candidate's technical skills. The test group surveyed consists mostly of people who like to explore in a game and the study therefore proposes a game to attract candidates in a recruitment process should be designed. When it comes to assessing technical skills the study suggests a game the candidate can play in different ways. Based on the player's behavior different personality traits can be demonstrated.

Who are the Most Committed at Work? : Linking Personality to Organizational Commitment

Guppy, Lisa, Holmberg, Carl-Johan January 2021 (has links)
Organizational commitment has been linked to several important outcomes, including employee turnover and work performance. Despite that the antecedents of organizational commitment have been a subject of research for several decades, the relation between personality and organizational commitment is relatively unexplored. The aim of this study was to examine the relations between the personality traits in the five-factor model (Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, Neuroticism, Openness to Experience, and Extraversion) and organizational commitment. Personality was measured by the IPIP30 questionnaire. Three types of organizational commitment (affective commitment, continuance commitment, and normative commitment) were measured by the Organizational Commitment Questionnaire. The respondents (N = 303) consisted of workers from both the public and the private sector in Sweden. Multiple linear regression analyzes showed that Conscientiousness was statistically significantly related to affective commitment. Agreeableness, Neuroticism, and Extraversion were statistically significantly related to continuance commitment. Practical implications of the results as well as future research directions are discussed.

The determinants of under-five mortality in a selected village in Vhembe District, South Africa

Chifamba, Grace 02 August 2020 (has links)
MPH / Department of Public Health / Background: Despite modest improvements in child health outcomes during the 20th century, infant and child mortality rates remain unacceptably high in South Africa. South Africa, like many other countries in sub-Saharan Africa, is challenged by high levels of under -five child mortality. Aim: The purpose of this study was to explore the determinants of under-five mortality in a selected village in Vhembe District, South Africa. Methodology: The study was conducted in Mhinga Village in Vhembe District, Limpopo province South Africa. A qualitative approach using a descriptive design was used for the study. A sample of 7 mothers who lost children under 5 years of age through death were selected from the target population by means of snowball sampling. Data was collected through a semi-structured interview. The data collected was analysed using the thematic analytical approach. Results: Four main themes emerged during data analysis namely, diseases and infections as causes of U5M in Mhinga, Maternal and perinatal health as determinants associated with U5M in Mhinga, Health care factors as determinants associated with U5M in Mhinga and cultural factors as determinants contributing to U5M in Mhinga, Conclusion and recommendation: The study recommends that a study be conducted on the factors that affect the utilisation of health and ANC services and strategies to promote the use of health and ANC services in Mhinga. The researcher further recommends that a study be conducted on strategies to reduce U5M in Mhinga. / NRF

Personality Traits Associated with Environmental Concern

Wuertz, Tara Rae 01 January 2015 (has links)
The 5 factor model of personality, including the traits of openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism, is a well-established theoretical model for describing how personality is structured. Hirsh (2010) demonstrated the big 5 personality traits, excluding extraversion, were correlated with pro-environmental attitudes. The purpose of this quantitative study was to replicate previous findings, and discover if there was a correlation with a person's pro-environmental behaviors and the big 5 personality traits. A total of 100 participants from an online participant pool completed a survey, which included the Environmental Concern Scale to measure concern and attitudes about the environment, and the General Ecological Behavior scale and the Self-Reported Pro-environmental Behavior Scale to measure participants' pro-environmental behaviors. Bivariate correlations and multiple regression were performed to determine the predictive relationship between personality traits and pro-environmental attitudes and behaviors. The trait of openness was significantly correlated with both pro-environmental attitudes, r(91) = .36, p < .01, and behaviors r(93) = .41, p < .01. Agreeableness was also significantly correlated with pro-environmental behaviors r(93) = .26, p <. 05. Multiple regression revealed that trait of openness was found to be a significant predictor of pro-environmental concern F(5, 87) = 3.69, p < .005, and behaviors F(5, 89) = 4.04, p < .002. The implications for positive social change include a better understanding for psychologists of which of the Big 5 personality traits are more likely to contribute in the participation preserving the environment.

Strategies Small Business Salon Owners Use to Survive Longer Than 5 Years

Johnson, Delita Netrice 01 January 2018 (has links)
Small business owners are the primary initiators of innovation and economic growth but fail at high rates. Fifty percent of small businesses fail within the first 5 years of operations. Through the lens of systems theory, the purpose of this multiple case study was to explore the strategies some small salon business owners use to remain in business for longer than 5 years. Using purposeful sampling, the 7 owners of small salon business owners in the southeastern United States were selected based upon evidence of their strategies to sustain their businesses for longer than 5 years. Data were collected through semistructured, face-to-face interviews and a review of business licenses, certifications, and financial records. During data analysis using Yin's 5-step process of compiling, disassembling, reassembling, interpreting, and drawing data-based conclusions, 4 major themes emerged: (a) business growth strategy, (b) customer relationship strategy, (c) financial capital strategy, and (d) marketing strategy. The findings indicated that implementing strategies to maintain business growth, building relationships with customers, securing sufficient financial capital, and engaging in effective marketing are essential for small salon business owners to survive in business longer than 5 years. The implications for positive social change include the potential for small salon business owners to generate employment, sustain the livelihood of employees, contribute to the local economy, and reduce local unemployment rates.
