On Fourier Transforms and Functional Equations on GL(2)William Sokurski (13176186) 29 July 2022 (has links)

We consider a novel setting for local harmonic analysis on reductive groups motivated by Langlands functoriality conjecture. To this end, we characterize certain non-linear Schwartz spaces on tori and reductive groups in spectral terms, and develop some of their structure in the unramified case, and we derive estimates of their moderate growth at infinity. We also consider non-linear Fourier transforms, and calculate their action on tame supercuspidal representations of $GL_2(F)$ in terms of inducing cuspidal data.

Hecke Correspondence for Automorphic Integrals with Infinite Log-Polynomial PeriodsDaughton, Austin James Chinault January 2012 (has links)
Since Hecke first proved his correspondence between Dirichlet series with functional equations and automorphic forms, there have been a great number of generalizations. Of particular interest is a generalization due to Bochner that gives a correspondence between Dirichlet series with any finite number of poles that satisfy the classical functional equation and automorphic integrals with (finite) log-polynomial sum period functions. In this dissertation, we extend Bochner's result to Dirichlet series with finitely many essential singularities. With some restrictions on the underlying group and the weight, we also prove a correspondence for Dirichlet series with infinitely many poles. For this second correspondence, we provide a technique to approximate automorphic integrals with infinite log-polynomial sum period functions by automorphic integrals with finite log-polynomial period functions. / Mathematics

The Discrete Hodge Star Operator and Poincaré DualityArnold, Rachel Florence 16 May 2012 (has links)
This dissertation is a uniïfication of an analysis-based approach and the traditional topological-based approach to Poincaré duality. We examine the role of the discrete Hodge star operator in proving and in realizing the Poincaré duality isomorphism (between cohomology and homology in complementary degrees) in a cellular setting without reference to a dual cell complex. More specifically, we provide a proof of this version of Poincaré duality over R via the simplicial discrete Hodge star defined by Scott Wilson in [19] without referencing a dual cell complex. We also express the Poincaré duality isomorphism over both R and Z in terms of this discrete operator. Much of this work is dedicated to extending these results to a cubical setting, via the introduction of a cubical version of Whitney forms. A cubical setting provides a place for Robin Forman's complex of nontraditional differential forms, defined in [7], in the uniïfication of analytic and topological perspectives discussed in this dissertation. In particular, we establish a ring isomorphism (on the cohomology level) between Forman's complex of differential forms with his exterior derivative and product and a complex of cubical cochains with the discrete coboundary operator and the standard cubical cup product. / Ph. Kronecker's Theory of Binary Bilinear Forms with Applications to Representations of Integers as Sums of Three SquaresConstable, Jonathan A. 01 January 2016 (has links)
In 1883 Leopold Kronecker published a paper containing “a few explanatory remarks” to an earlier paper of his from 1866. His work loosely connected the theory of integral binary bilinear forms to the theory of integral binary quadratic forms. In this dissertation we discover the statements within Kronecker's paper and offer detailed arithmetic proofs. We begin by developing the theory of binary bilinear forms and their automorphs, providing a classification of integral binary bilinear forms up to equivalence, proper equivalence and complete equivalence.
In the second chapter we introduce the class number, proper class number and complete class number as well as two refinements, which facilitate the development of a connection with binary quadratic forms.
Our third chapter is devoted to deriving several class number formulas in terms of divisors of the determinant. This chapter also contains lower bounds on the class number for bilinear forms and classifies when these bounds are attained.
Lastly, we use the class number formulas to rigorously develop Kronecker's connection between binary bilinear forms and binary quadratic forms. We supply purely arithmetic proofs of five results stated but not proven in the original paper. We conclude by giving an application of this material to the number of representations of an integer as a sum of three squares and show the resulting formula is equivalent to the well-known result due to Gauss.

K otázce vývoje oslovování v portugalštině - textová analýza / On the problem of adress forms in the Portuguese language - text analysisWagenknechtová, Hana January 2012 (has links)
The subject of the submitted thesis: "On the problem of address forms in the Portuguese language - text analysis" is to analyze the various address forms belonging to noun, pronoun and verb word classes. The evolution of these forms is emphasized; however, more approaches are considered since evaluating the diachronic one requires that the synchronic one is also examined. The goal is to look at the issue in several ways, taking into account the broader historical, political and sociolinguistic issues. The theoretical part is aimed at the general principles of addressing in terms of external, internal and historical linguistics and to the evolution of addressing in the Portuguese language. This includes Portuguese addressing terminology specifics, like the form of voc. The practical part describes the address forms in Brother Luís de Sousa, the historical Portuguese play (theatrical) from 1844 set in the beginning of 17th century, comparing these forms to authentic texts from that period. The conclusion presents the results of the text analyses and sums up the problems related to the issue of politeness in linguistics.

Meios de controle judicial da sentença arbitral nacional / Forms of judicial review of the domestic arbitral award.Wladeck, Felipe Scripes 06 June 2013 (has links)
According to Law n.o 9.307, which came into effect in September 23rd, 1996, domestic arbitral awards have the same effect on the parties as a ruling by a State Court, without the need for judicial confirmation. The Brazilian Arbitration Act regulates the limits and means for the judicial challenge of domestic arbitral awards in, essentialy, two articles, art. 32 and 33. The Act opted for brief rules on the issue, but they are sufficient to resolve the practical situations that may arise when an arbitral award is challenged. Understanding that arbitration is a process of conventional origin (private) and that due to those as well as other rules, such as articles 17, 18, 20, paragraph 2, and 31 it is contained in the field of general procedural theory (so that, consequently, the same principles and concepts are applicable) and is subject to the essential dictates of due legal process, it becomes possible, due to existing techniques of interpretation, to develop solutions to the many issues involving the judicial control of domestic arbitral awards that Law n.o 9.307 either did not expressly regulate or regulated imprecisely.

Understood as a historical and relational process, the social heterogeneity of family work forms and agriculture production is addressed in this thesis from a perspective that take precedence by the analysis of the significant universe of the actors involved in this research. The problematization of the European immigration policy undertaken in Brazil in the 19th century was the starting point for the definition of the empirical cut. This thesis responds to the main objective of understanding how the social heterogeneity of farmers' collectives in the municipalities of Domingos Martins, Santa Teresa and Santa Leopoldina (Espírito Santo state) is constituted and which are the main social effects related to the process of classification and social distinction. Four specific objectives were built to answer this question: the first refers to an understanding of the historical conformation of the region. The second objective is more specific to agricultural practices and to socially shared meanings. A third objective was to understand the native schemes of classification, hierarchy, differentiation and social distinction. The fourth objective focuses in understanding the impacts of differentiation processes that circulate in the research context. A historical approach and ethnographic perspective oriented the methodological options. Documentary research, direct observation and application of interviews in different phases of field research between 2015 and 2016 were the most used techniques. As a result, we found that in the context of the research there are different forms of doing agriculture and ways to be a farmer that relate important schemes of production and appreciation of practices. Using these schemes, different collectives create their practices and strategies in a context in which a process flow of social classification is used to explain heterogeneity and promote distinctions. In this sense, it is noted that two plans constitute the heterogeneity: a plan that exhibits the agricultural practices and the ability of farmers to define diversified strategies based on social schemes that guide and give meaning to their actions, promoting the constitution and reproduction of heterogeneity socially significant. On the second plane of analysis, the constitution of heterogeneity revealed unequal hierarchies and opportunities among the collectives from the naturalization of differences within the principles of di-vision based on the ethnic-racial origin of the farmers and the establishment of structural distance from the rhetoric of the agriculture modernization.
