Attract and Retain : The importance of employees in small firms

Tholén, Mattias, Hamberg, Guz January 2010 (has links)
This thesis investigates how a knowledge-intensive, small, young firm, in a highly competitive environment, deal with difficulties in their recruitment process.. Given their assumed disadvantages, how does the firm attract and retain key personnel? A case study was conducted of a small young firm in Silicon Valley. The findings suggest that small firms do not directly compete with larger firms for personnel, and that the company should emphasize small firms´ work characteristics in their recruiting practices to become attractive for job-seekers.

Simulátor Turingových strojů popsaných pomocí kompozitních diagramů / Simulator of Turing Machines Described by Means of Composite Diagrams

Siska, Josef January 2014 (has links)
In this thesis, the theory related to Turing machines and means of their description (with focus on composite diagrams) is presented. The aim of this work is to create an application that allows editing Turing machines described by means of composite diagrams and simulating their computation on specified input configuration (including non-deterministic and multi-tape machines). Furthermore, within the application it will be possible to run the termination analysis of Turing machine in order to determine whether this machine or any of its parts always halt. The resulting application is implemented in Java and the termination analysis is performed using the well-founded orders. And so, one of the results created during this work is a software tool which allows designing and testing of Turing machines described by means of composite diagrams. Resulting application may be used especially during lectures on theoretical computer science, where it can be used to demonstrate computation of some Turing machine.

Determinants of the probability of dealing with complaints in the organs of consumer protection: an econometric analysis of the national registry of substantiated complaints / Determinantes da probabilidade de atendimento de reclamaÃÃes nos ÃrgÃos de defesa do consumidor: uma anÃlise economÃtrica do cadastro nacional de reclamaÃÃes fundamentadas

JoÃo Batista Pereira JÃnior 20 March 2014 (has links)
The present work promoted an analysis of the National Register of founded Complaints of the year 2011 (publication happened in 2012) whose base of data possesses 153.094 observations, which represent all of the complaints formulated in this period in consumer defense organs spreaded in all areas of the national territory. Logistic Regressions were performed in order to determine a probabilistic measure that reflects the possibilities of success to consumers' demands together the entities and organizations created for discussion and processing of demands. The proposed econometric model took into account sex and consumers' age group, the subject discussed in the processes, the geographical location where happened the complaint, besides the field of activity of the claimed suppliers. With the accomplished simulations, among other results, it was verified that the largest success chances on the national scene for females aged 31-40 years are for the demands that involve products (67.3%) and that the housing sector presented the lowest probability of celebrating conciliation between the parties (39.1%).

The spiritual weakness of Western Missionary Founded Churches as the cause of the rise of Africa Independent Churches in Zimbabwe with special reference to theUniting Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa

Mushayavanhu, David January 2013 (has links)
This dissertation is an attempt to analyse and investigate ways of responding to the poor UPCSA missional approach to Zimbabwean society. The desire to write this dissertation was born out of the experience of working for the past six years as an ordained minister of this denomination in the Presbytery of Zimbabwe, there are six congregations with the right to call a minister, thirty grant receiving and fifteen preaching stations in the whole country which is serviced by thirteen ministers, including probationers. The UPCSA has a total of four thousand five hundred and ninety seven members not counting Sunday school children. The dissertation seeks to survey the history of how the people in the Presbytery of Zimbabwe came to be some of fewer memberships as compared to other denominations in the country. It will focus on colonial and post –colonial events, which led to evangelizing the nation. The spiritual weakness which the people of Presbytery of Zimbabwe (POZ) experience is a product of the evangelism mode of missional approach to society and the failure to contextualize the Good-News. This dissertation considers the possibility of how to correct this state of affairs. Spiritually weak people have been destroyed precisely because they have reduced them to products. How to understand the context and achieve that change is the central issue which the writer addresses in this dissertation. / Dissertation (MA Theol)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / gm2014 / Church History and Church Policy / unrestricted

Idealismus mezi Leibnizem a Berkeleym / Idealism between Leibniz and Berkeley

Raboch, Filip January 2021 (has links)
While Berkeley's position on the materialism of the world is undoubtedly idealistic, Leibniz's position is somewhat problematic: in metaphysical texts, he seems to be an idealist, while in texts concerned with natural philosophy and physics, he seems more like a dualist similar to Aristotle. We will even see that Leibniz wants to be both an idealist/phenomenalist and a realist. Moreover, in his remarks to Berkeley, he criticizes Berkeley's idealism and his rejection of matter. The aim of this paper is to map Leibniz's idealistic position, compare it with Berkeley's, and decide whether Leibniz's objections to Berkeley are justified and whether their positions are any similar

Metoder för en hållbar översiktsplanering : En studie om utvärderingsmetodikens betydelse för väl övervägda beslut / Methods for sustainable general planning : A study of the importance of evaluation methodology for well-considered decisions

Doslic Isaksson, Tuva January 2022 (has links)
This essay in spatial planning sheds light on how forward-looking evaluation methods can contribute to more well-founded decisions in the comprehensive planning process. The new complex reality with increasing climate changes and more parameters to consider in decisionmaking, require stricter demands on us planners in the task of leading community development in a sustainable direction. Agenda 2030 and the national environmental goals must guide us regarding sustainability issues, but we need to clarify and concretize this in decision making. This study examines the possibility of more distinct and proactive planning by applying methods for evaluation at an early stage. The present case study analyzes and compares evaluation methods based on several criteria where the focus is on how well they handle conflicts of interest linked to building development. Furthermore, three municipal masterplans are analyzed with the aim of visualizing the work behind decisions in reality. The study indicates that work with evaluation methodology in general planning today is a relatively unspoken step in the process. It also points out that the methods that are advocated are often too time-consuming and technically advanced to be applied in planning practice. The content analysis shows that transparency, together with extensive planning documentation, provides well-motivated decisions, which is favorable for the general plan's guiding function. Finally, further studies are encouraged to meet the municipalities' need for more flexible and multidimensional methods adapted for long-term sustainable community planning.

Creativity in Mathematics Curricula – An International Comparison between Singapore, Hong Kong, Sweden, and Norway / Kreativitet i matematikläroplaner – en internationell jämförelse mellan Singapore, Hong Kong, Sverige, och Norge

Bennevall, Marcus January 2017 (has links)
Studies have shown that creative mathematically founded reasoning (CMR) outperforms algorithmic reasoning (AR) in regards to retention and (re)construction of knowledge. This suggests that creativity should be encouraged in national high-school mathematics curricula. The aim of the present study is to compare how creativity is framed in different national high-school mathematics curricula, using the following definition: creativity is the characteristics of people, processes, and environments which lead to new and original products that are useful or otherwise attractive to an individual or a society. Utilizing content and discourse analysis, the present study thus contrasts how the high-school mathematics curricula of Singapore, Hong Kong, Sweden, and Norway handle and value creativity, and also examines which role creativity takes in each curricula. Findings suggest that Singapore’s curriculum emphasizes creativity the most, and frequently does so in relation to assessment. Hong Kong’s curriculum is found to emphasize creativity in diverse ways, often using words with connotations to playfulness. Analysis of Sweden’s curriculum indicates a relatively minute focus on creativity, tending to put it in a teacher-centered context. A feature of Norway’s curriculum is an increasing emphasis on creativity as courses approach tertiary education. This also suggests a rising value of creativity in its curriculum. A similar though not as pronounced trajectory is found also in Singapore’s curriculum. In the Asian and Norwegian curricula, creativity is expressed both as a means and an end, while in Sweden’s curriculum it is only seen as an end. The results are discussed in terms of potential reasons for the prominent national features, and the study also includes an evaluation of the aptness of the suggested definition of creativity, a review of the limitations of the study, as well as propositions for further research. Finally, two recommendations are given to the National Agency for Education in Sweden – Skolverket – based on the results of the study: 1) diversify the emphasis on creativity in the curriculum, and 2) ensure alignment between what teachers value and what Skolverket values with respect to creativity.

Identités raciales et production du politique : la construction d'Haïti en tant que problème public dans l'imaginaire social caribéen : études comparées sur la Jamaique et la Guadeloupe / Racial identities and production of politics : the construction of Haiti as a public problem in Caribbean social imaginary : comparative studies on Jamaica and Guadeloupe

Nicolas, Sébastien 10 March 2017 (has links)
This research project proposes a comparative analysis regarding the construction ofHaiti as a public problem in Jamaica and in Guadeloupe during the 2000s. A first factorof politicisation observed in both territories is based on the process of othering theHaitians through norms inherited from racist ideology and reflected in significantmobilisations against Haitian migrants. A second type of intervention in the politicalarena is conversely related to oppositional practices towards the colonial discourse andtends to present the first Black Republic as a symbol of common belonging shapedthrough struggles against Western hegemony. This source of identity-based conflicts islocated in the light of a racialised imaginary inherited from plantation society and at theintersection of the institutional models implemented after decolonisation in Jamaica andin Guadeloupe. By recounting the career of the “Haitian problem”, this survey reflectson the production of politics in the Caribbean space as from its margins. It aims atshowing how social and racial antagonisms expressed in societies founded on slaveryshape and fashion local political action. The first part sheds a light on the invention ofthe racialised representation of the “Haitian barbarian” in the Atlantic space and its useas a tool for legitimating the colonial order in Jamaican and in Guadeloupe by Westernpowers. The second part addresses the way in which these racial stereotypes werereactivated in both territories during the 2000s through the politicisation of Haitianimmigration as well as its placement on the policy agenda. Third, the interactions thatshape official narratives related to the “Haitian problem” are grasped through the lens ofpolicy instruments implemented in order to regulate, control and exclude Haitian bodies.Based on the Caribbean example, this research invites to discuss the way racialidentities, politics, power practices and governmentalities relate and are articulatedaltogether. It highlights the longevity of thinking patterns derived from colonialdomination, while emphasising the capacity of actors to renegotiate their contentthrough political conflict.
