Diskursen om våldtäkt i Dagens Nyheter : Fokus på förövare och offer / The discourse of rape in the Swedish press Dagens Nyheter : Focus on the perpetrator and the vicitm

Viklund, Mikaela, Engström, Matilda, Persson, Karin January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this essay is to describe the discourse of rape in the Swedish press Dagens Nyheter. The research questions are focused on how the concept of rape, the perpetrator and the victim are described in the discourse of rape in Dagens Nyheter. The study consists 48 articles from the Swedish press Dagens Nyheter and they have been published during 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016. All the articles contain the term of rape. The articles have been analysed with Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis and resulted in four areas; "rape", "how the perpetrator and the victim are described based on gender, age and name", "the relation between the perpetrator and the victim" and "the attribute of the perpetrator and the victim". The main results can be explained by different theories, in this essay social constructivism and gender theory will be used as theoretical tools. The conclusions that can be drawn from this study are that the perpetrators are men at the age of below 20 to 30 years, the victims are women at the age of below 20 years and the diversely parts are described in different ways in the discourse of rape.

Bread and Roses: Stronger communities and healthier food systems from the inside out

Rutherford, Karolyna Theodora Louise 03 April 2017 (has links)
This practicum project examines the long-standing association between the domestic realm and gendered space as well as issues that have emerged in urban areas, such as poor access to healthy food options. Drawing on utopian concepts that have challenged conventional forms of residential development and the organization of domestic functions and spaces, it proposes the adaptive reuse of the Royal Albert Arms Hotel in Winnipeg. Concerned with the design of a model of housing that features a communal kitchen and dining facility, among other shared spaces, this project investigates the potential of such common rooms as a means to foster a sense of community within the building. In doing so, it explores how interior design can reimagine domestic space in a more proactive and socially conscious manner, improving the quality of life for inhabitants in the context of their homes, and more broadly, the city. / May 2017

Tendentiös könsfördelning i våra historieläroböcker? : En textanalys av utvalda läroböcker. / Skewed gender distribution in our Swedish history books? : A text analysis of selected textbooks.

Kjell, Oscar January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to make visible, how and to what extent, women are illuminated in selected textbooks. All textbooks in this study are aimed at high school. In this essay, a qualitative method has been applied to generate opportunities to draw conclusions from the examined material. The textbooks are scrutinized individually and then compared to each other. Finally, the textbooks are set against the curricula to answer the overall question of the thesis, How well do the textbooks correspond with the curricula? Using theoretical formulas, the study shows that women are marginalized in all textbooks. It is the men's history that is served which generates that women become more like a complement. This study also shows that when women are co-authors, the representation of women in the textbooks increases. Although women are underrepresented it has over a 50-year period become more equal and it is our responsibility as future teachers to continue the gender equality work at school.

The memory of Utøya through pop-culture. : A discourse analysis of gender and ideology in two contemporary feature films portraying the act of terror on Utøya.

Borglin, John January 2019 (has links)
The following study aims to discuss the impact of Erik Poppes’ and Paul Greengrass’ respective audio-visual texts depicting the July 22 massacre on Utøya, Norway. The study will discuss the impact of said texts on the creation of a cultural memory of the event, as well as the creation of identity which is derived from its remembrance. The cultural memory and formation of identity created by this mediating media have an impact on the reception of the depicted past as well as the ideas and views regarding contemporary times. This gives the study a deeper relation to the historical field, whilst also contextualizing the entire study in the grander field of memory studies. In addition, the method decodes the theoretical perspectives of gender-theory and ideological-theory. Considering the choice of theoretical fields, discourse analysis is implemented as the method of analysis. It is derived from Faucault’s idea of language and its notions of hierarchical carriers of meaning, though in this context with a broader scope as to include both linguistic and non-linguistic signs. The results of the analysis were fruitful. In terms of gender-theoretical portrayal, the films offered similarities as well as differences. Both of them portrayed a nuanced representation of gender-constructions, however in highly different ways, as their respective narratives were dissimilar. Furthermore, the ideological values portrayed were interlinked between the films, though more or less fixed towards different ideas. The discussion that followed connected this study to the wider field of cultural memory and identity creation in relations to mediating popular-historical media.

Olsson, Maria, Wolt, Maja January 2006 (has links)

The purpose of the study was to inquire into pupils’ attitude towards the current beauty ideal from a gender- and an ethnicity perspective. The study was based on a quantitative survey among 116 young students about prevailing beauty ideal from two different schools in the Stockholm area. The result showed that the students are partially characterized by the stereotyped images of women and men but that there are tendencies towards another view especially among the girls. It is however clear that appearance still is important. A majority of the boys agreed in the statements that it is important to have a good-looking girlfriend and that girls should be thin. Both sexes believed that a person who is beautiful gets better treatment. Both also agreed in the statement that boys should be well trained. Most of the students are however satisfied with their own appearance and body and would not want to change. The study has shown that there are differences in attitudes when it comes to both gender and ethnicity. The emerged results were introduced in three different themes and were analyzed on the basis of gender-theory and metacognition and were compared with prior research, which showed that there were both similarities and differences.

A rollercoaster of gender strategies : A study about the consequences of normative gender images for women with experience of drug abuse

Gidlöf, Gina, Hallgren, Sanna January 2012 (has links)
A qualitative interview study how the normative gender images affects on women, their roles and positions in a drug abuse. The purpose of this study aims to shed a light at the consequences that the normative gender scenario inflicts on women with drug abuse and how these prejudices affects these women. Based on interviews with four different women who all lived with a drug abuse we have problematized how the gender system and the normative gender images affected them. We have used gender perspectives and social constructivism theories while analyzing the empirical basis. More specifically we use the theories of Butler about how gender constructs through performative actions and Hirdmans theories of the gender system. The paper ends with a discussion of the result and a description of how the women through the socialization process is shaped to meet the normative image of women. In the subculture they adopt a more masculine appearance in order to achieve respect and status. When the women decides to leave the drug abuse and the subculture they are expected to once again adapt to the normative image of their gender, which on a micro level becomes a rollercoaster of gender strategies for the individual woman.

Jakobsson, Hilda January 2006 (has links)

Jakobsson, Hilda January 2005 (has links)
