Chiesa, Comune e frati Predicatori a Bergamo nella prima metà del secolo XIII / Church, Common and Preacher Friars in Bergamo in the 13th century.

RONCELLI, ANGELITA 21 March 2012 (has links)
This dissertation deals with the foundation of the convent of the Preacher Friars in Bergamo, which started around 1220. This foundation was part of an ample project to spread the Order of Preachers, drawn by Cardinal Hugh of Ostia in a joint effort with the founder Dominic of Caleruega. Hugh of Ostia himself laid the foundations of this project during his second apostolic legation in Lombardy. The convent of Bergamo was the first to be founded probably because of the friendship between the local bishop, Giovanni Tornielli and the Holy See, and also thanks to the presence of Guala de Roniis, a bergamask Preacher, who was known by the Roman Curia.

A Structural analysis and visual abstraction of the pictorial in the Aeneid, I-VI

Shaw, Rayford Wesley 06 1900 (has links)
The pictorial elements of the first six books of the Aeneid can be evidenced through an examination of its structural components. With commentaries on such literary devices as parallels and antipodes, interwoven themes, cyclic patterns, and strategic placement of words in the text, three genres of painting are treated individually in Chapter 1 to illustrate the poet's consistency of design and to prove him a craftsman of the visual arts. In the first division, "Cinematic progression," attention is directed to the language which conveys movement and frequentative action, with special emphasis placed on specific passages whose verbal components possess sculptural or third-dimensional traits and contribute to the "spiral" and "circle" motifs, the appropriate visual agents for animation. Depiction of mythological subjects comprises the second division entitled "Cameos and snapshots." Three selections, dubbed monstra, are explicated with such cross references as to illustrate the poet's use of epithets which he distributes passim to elicit verbal echoes of other passages. The final division, "The Vergilian landscape," addresses two major themes, antithetical in nature, the martial and the pastoral. Their sequential juxtaposition in the text renders a marked contrast in mood which is manifested pictorially in the transition from darkness to light. A panoramic chiaroscuro emerges which is the tapestry against which Aeneas makes his sojourn through the Underworld. It is the perfect backdrop to accompany the overriding theme of "things hidden," res latentes, which encompasses a greater part of the epic and becomes the culminant motif of the paintings which comprise the visual presentation. Chapter 2 functions as a catalogue raisonne for art inspired by the Aeneid from early antiquity up to the present day. Such examples of artistic expression provide a continuum with which to appropriate Horace's maxim, ut pictura poesis, in their evaluation. The verbal exegeses in Chapter 1 have been programmed to comport with the thematic content of the visual presentation in Chapter 3, a critique exemplifying the transposition of the verbal to the pictorial. With these canvases I have attempted to render a new perspective of Vergil's epic in the genre of abstract expressionism. / Art / D. Litt. et Phil.

La microarchitecture dans l'orfèvrerie religieuse florentine (1400-1570) : objectum, aediculum, imago / Microarchitecture in Florentine religious goldsmithery (1400-1570) : objectum, aediculum, imago

Delage, Alice 19 February 2018 (has links)
For the last twenty years art historians have developed an interest in microarchitecture: the miniaturization of architecture in works of art, especially in goldsmithery. Studies dedicated to the topic mostly focus on medieval period, trying to define which large-scale buildings these works might imitate. However, these studies are rarely extended to other periods of time. Renaissance Florence, characterized by a deep transformation of the art of architecture, is a significant period we chose in order to observe the connections between miniaturized and monumental buildings. This requires the identification of three aspects of microarchitecture: being an object or part of an object (Objectum), combining different architectural motives (Ædiculum) and presenting itself as an image to be seen by a viewer (Imago). With Objectum, we examine the microarchitecture in relation to the work it contributes to ornate as well as within its context of production. This inspection is also a relevant opportunity to present the materials and the techniques used by the goldsmiths. With Ædicula, we study the architectural motives that compose the miniaturized buildings. The motives show the similarities between goldsmithery and other arts like sculpture and painting. With Imago, we consider the dialog that microarchitecture establishes with the viewer thanks to several dispositives such as the æsthetic qualities of the pieces, their ability to evocated something familiar (a building) and, sometimes, their religious and political meanings. In total, this study argues that micorarchitecture does not necessarily define itself within its relationship to large-scale architecture but should rather be understood as an independent, universal artistic phenomenon.

Comparable Dissonance as Used by Palestrina, Lassus, and Victoria in Three Masses

Jerome, Raoul 06 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to give an account of the comparable use of dissonance of Palestrina, Lassus, and Victoria through harmonic analysis and statistical comparison, illustrating the stylistic differences among the three composers works. The thesis does. not attempt to cover text setting, melodic construction, ranges, or aesthetic evaluation of composition other than that which pertains to dissonance. The analysis of dissonance was done with primary consideration being given to the vertical structure of the harmony, observing the linear structure only with relation to the approach and resolution of that dissonance.

Sociálně pedagogická práce v salesiánských střediscích mládeže / Social pedagogical work at Salesian Youth Centres

Opatrná, Kateřina January 2011 (has links)
Annotation: The presented work deals with the contemporary Salesian education on the background of pedagogical principles of the preventive system of Don Bosco, which was formulated as a response to concrete historical conditions of life and needs of young boys in Turine in the second half of the 19th century and was based on a personal experience of a young priest and tutor John Bosco. The goal of the work is to ascertain through an analysis of the contemporary Salesisan education and concrete activities of Czech Salesian Youth Centres, whether and in what extant the Salesian activities can be considered as a social pedagogical work. The work is divided into five parts. Part One is focused on the historical context of the origin of the Salesian movement, whereas Part Two on the preventive system, as was applied by Don Bosco in his work. Part three is dedicated to the contemporary Salesian education and Part Four describes the functions, methods and forms of work in Czech Salesian Youth Centres. In Part Five I examine through the analysis of the contemporary Salesian education and activities of selected Czech Salesian Youth Centres, whether and in which extant the Salesian activities reflect and fulfil social pedagogical aspects of youth work. Key words: Social pedagogical work; Bosco Giovanni; Salesians of...

Carbonera, Ildo January 2008 (has links)
This study in the manner of an essay reflects a constant but unstable interchange between Fiction, History and Personal Experience. It is based on the following novels: Os Malavoglia (Giovanni Verga), Pai patrão (Gavino Ledda), Vita e Stória de Nanetto Pipetta (Aquiles Bernardi), O quatrilho, A cocanha and A babilônia (José Clemente Pozenato), Juliano Pavolini and A suavidade do vento (Cristovão Tezza), Mamma, son tanto felice, O mundo inimigo and Vista parcial da noite (Luiz Ruffato). Two epistemological paths have a point of departure and a point of arrival: a) from Italy to Brazil / America; b) from small backcountry communities to the big city. Among the descendants of italian immigrants the simulations and illusions processed by fiction are closer to reality than those offered by institutions and associations in their argueing and tricking for "retrieval of the roots" and "reclaiming traditions", embodied by events like italian evenings, typical dinners, family encounters, and radio programs. In the novels, there is an absolute absence of such "events", no glasses are raised in honor of anything, no requiem and inhumation masses are held. Post-modern countryside people of Italian descent in Brazil have become globalized without even leaving home.

L'économie politique de la guerre : Giovanni Andrea Doria, la République de Gênes et la monarchie hispanique (1560-1606) / The political economy of war : Giovanni Andrea Doria, the Republic of Genoa and the Spanish Monarchy (1560-1606)

Carpentier, Bastien 18 December 2017 (has links)
In this thesis, we study the articulation of the polycentric monarchy of the Habsburgs through the exposure of a case study centered on Genoa. In 1528, trained in the lap of the genoese condotierri Andrea Doria, Genoa was freed from the domination on the king of France and had integrated the Habsburg imperial system, as an independent and allied republic. The Hispano-Genoese political military and financial system owed much to the links between the Habsburg and Doria houses. If Andrea Doria was highlighted by an important historiographical production, his little nephew Giovanni Andrea, - who was admiral for the Spanish between 1584 and 1602 - has not yet been the object of completed studies. By observing his individual trajectory, the objective is to create a tool to question the role of the figure of the war contractor in the Habsburg imperialist policy. By crossing the empirical and micro-analytical perspectives, and resizing the analytical scales, the challenge is to understand the king's strategy of entrusting parcels of political power to individuals and to observe how Genoese took advantage of it. Finally, it is a question of measuring the consequences that this modus operandi had on the Habsburg war policy in the Mediterranean area. Through these questions it is the impact of the private interest in the construction of the polycentric monarchy that is raised.

Gli studi danteschi di Giovanni Iacopo Dionisi

MAZZONI, LUCA 02 April 2009 (has links)
The thesis is about Giovanni Iacopo Dionisi (1734-1808), canon of Verona’s cathedral and librarian of the Biblioteca Capitolare, known as one “of the most well-deserving man of the Dante studies, […] at the end of the previous century, the beginner of a new criticism on the poet’s works” (G. Carducci). Dionisi’s books, i.e. the eight “Aneddoti”, the "Preparazione istorica e critica alla nuova edizione di Dante Allighieri" (full of exegetic and textual hints about Dante’s works), and his edition of Dante’s “Commedia” (published by Bodoni in 1795), are for the first time analysed with the point of view of modern Dante criticism. The controversy between Dionisi and Baldassarre Lombardi, editor of the “Commedia” in 1791, is taken in account as well. My thesis proves that Dionisi solved many difficult textual points in Dante’s works, so that many are the readings proposed by Dionisi you can find also in Petrocchi’s edition of the “Commedia” and in Brambilla Ageno’s edition of the “Convivio”, as is shown in a table in the thesis’ appendix, where the reader also finds seven unpublished Dionisi letters to Bartolomeo Perazzini, parish priest of Soave and fond of Dante, and twenty-one extracts from other letters between the two, that show how tight was the collaboration between the two scholars.

GIOVANNI MATTIA TIBERINO E LA PASSIO BEATI SIMONIS PUERI TRIDENTINI : EDIZIONE E COMMENTO

BOLPAGNI, GAIA 21 March 2012 (has links)
Considering the wide and various kinds of studies dedicated to the case of the “blessed” Simone from Trento (1475), it stood out the lack of information about one of the most important actors of this story: Giovanni Mattia Tiberino from Brescia, author of the “Passio beati Simonis tridentini”, that is the text which established the literary success of these events. For a long time the only interest for this character was related to his role in defence of Simonino’s case, and this interest never crossed the borders of local erudition; in this way it was not possible to have a full image of his figure as a man and as a scholar. This thesis aims to define better his biographical and cultural outlines, in order to show all the different faces of his complex profile as a man of letters and scholar. This thesis is composed by three chapters: the first one is about Tiberino’s life and works, and it outlines a complete and documented biography. The second one comprehends census and cataloguing of all attestations, manuscripts and printed editions of works related to Simone from Trento; it also shows the extent of their spreading and the manners of their circulation. The third is dedicate to the Passio’s edition, with enclosed an critical apparatus and a commentary.

Laurin, Marie-Ève January 2008 (has links) (PDF)
