It is a crop of low productivity, and may be superior when management in fertilization is appropriate. However, more information about the nutrition of the crop is needed. Nitrogen is one of the nutrients that most limits the production of sesame because it is responsible for important functions of metabolism and nutrition of the crop. Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate the cultivars of irrigated sesame in the function of nitrogen fertilization in two agricultural crops. Experiments were conducted at the Experimental Farm Rafael Fernandes, belonging to the Federal Rural Semi-Arid University, Mossoró-RN, from February to May (1st crop) and July to October (2nd crop) in 2016. The experimental design was in randomized complete blocks with four replications in a subdivided plots scheme, being allocated in the plots five nitrogen doses (0, 30, 60, 90 and 120 kg ha-1), and the four sesame cultivars in the subplots (CNPA G2 , CNPA G3, CNPA G4 and BRS Silk). The variables evaluated were: nitrogen content in the leaf diagnosis, plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves and capsules, dry mass (leaf, stem, capsules and plants), seed productivity, agronomic efficiency, oil and protein content. The dose of 120 kg ha-1 of nitrogen provided the best agronomic performance for sesame. The cultivar CNPA G4 had the highest productive performance. The cultivar BRS Silk had a higher oil content. A cultivar CNPA G4 teve o maior desempenho produtivo. A cultivar BRS Seda teve maior teor de óleo. A 2ª safra agrícola proporcionou melhor desempenho agronômico à cultura do gergelim / 2017-07-19

Optimalizace intenzivního chovu larev candáta obecného (Sander lucioperca L.)

MORAVA, Jakub January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this master thesis was test, comapre and observe the best density of rotifers (Brachionus plicatilis) for growth and survival of zander (Sander lucioperca) larvae stage in the recirculation aquatic systém (RAS). The secondary experiment tests initial feeding of zander by dint of rotifers and consequently by mix of rotifers and artemia. Main experiment observe effect of different density of rotifers on survive and growth of zander. Other observe parameters such as Fulton´s coeficient, total lenght of fish, weight of fish, etc. Fish was divided into 4 groups with different density of feeding and the control group without feeding. Rotifers has been used in density of 2, 6, 10 and 20 pieces per larva. The best growth in "D" group has been compensate by lower surviving. On the other hand the best ratio of survive has been observe in "C" group, which showed lower growth. The optimal rate of growth and survive has been declared in "B" group, which were feed with dose of 6 pieces rotifers for larva. In the second experiment were observe body changes of zander after initial feeding by rotifers folowed with feeding mix of rotifers and artemia. There were observe successful fulfillment of gas bladder and deformation of fish body and spinal after 40 days of keeping larvae in RAS. In the end of experiment there were also observe defirmations body - for example missing lower jaw, upper jaw or both of them. Spinal deformities occured in the form of scoliosis, lordosis, kyphosis and zig zag distortion. The experiment has shown that unsuccessfully filled gas bladder is closely related to the formation of deformitiy in the zander. Another negative factor that affects the filling of the gas bladder is grease on the surface of the water level, so I recommend installing the grease trap in the fill phase of the gas bladder.

For some decades Bogotá has come experiencing a significant urban growth, factors like the forced displacement, the migrations and the few guarantees of security and economy in the rural areas, make worse this growth. More than 72% of populations are living in urban areas, in the case of Bogotá the capital of Colombia, this count with almost seven millions of inhabitants, becoming the populated city in the country, generating a great housing demand and public services that don't cover in their entirety. This investigation was carried out in five sectors of Bogotá city, with the interest of case studies, where the environmental and social situation, added to the urban growth, constitutes a complex scenario. These case studies show the situation of the natural lakes and one sector of the oriental hills of the city, evidencing the progressive invasion of illegal housing and their social and environmental effects.

Vliv stálezelenosti vs. opadavosti u rostlin v teplých obdobích vyšších zeměpisných šířek na strukturu dřeva: případová studie ze svrchní křídy ostrova James Ross (Antarktický poloostrov) / Impact of being evergreen or deciduous on the wood anatomy of the trees in polar regions during the warm geological period : case study from Upper Cretaceous of the James Ross Island (Antarctic Peninsula)

Chernomorets, Oleksandra January 2019 (has links)
Global warming and its influence on the environment has become a popular and widespread issue. Nowadays, an analogy of a high latitude ecosystem during the greenhouse type of climate does not exist. The Cretaceous polar ecosystem gave us a unique possibility of understanding these extreme ecosystems and the specific adaptations of organisms to these conditions. Such types of ecosystem are crucial for a better understanding of possible future climate changes. This thesis focusses on the adaptation strategies of land plants during the Late Cretaceous in the Arctic peninsula. The land plants responded to these specific solar conditionals in two different ways: evergreen or deciduous. The fossil material for this study comes from Brandy Bay and Crame Col, James Ross Island, Antarctic. The material was collected in a continuous sequence from Kotic point to Santa Marta Formation (Cenomanian - Companian). A detailed and systematic analysis was performed on five out of fifty-five samples that well represented the studied region and age: Agathoxylon kellerense, Agathoxylon antarcticus, Araucarioxylon chapmanae, Podocarpoxylon multiparenchymatosum and Phoroxylon sp. Based on the detailed study of Agathoxylon kellerense (sample number AN34) wood anatomy and growth rings structure, adaptation strategies were...

Rural Teacher Satisfaction: An Analysis Of Beliefsand Attitudes Of Rural Teachers' Job Satisfaction

Huysman, John 01 January 2007 (has links)
The purpose of this research was to understand the beliefs and attitudes of teachers that affect their perceptions of job satisfaction in one small rural Florida school district. Data collected included a self-administered survey of Likert-type items measuring 20 factors for job satisfaction (96% response rate), individual semi-structured interviews, and focus groups. Analysis of the data confirmed prior research suggesting that multiple factors influence job satisfaction. Intrinsic satisfaction factors were the best predictors of overall job satisfaction: security, activity, social service, variety, and ability utilization. Extrinsic factors were most likely to predict overall dissatisfaction: recognition, company policies, opportunities for advancement, co-workers, and compensation. Interviews and focus groups further confirmed how participants projected personal significance onto these factors and how they interacted. The complexity of these interactions stemmed from personal perceptions and values participants placed on individual extrinsic factors and linked those values to other extrinsic factors. Consequently, other extrinsic factors took on perceptions of dissatisfaction based on the original factor. In addition, this research revealed several issues not previously reported in studies of rural teaching. First, "role confusion" emerged as a major source of job dissatisfaction for teachers who were either raised in the community or who had spent a considerable number of years in the community. These teachers often found themselves frustrated at work because of conflicting expectations and perceptions between their professional roles as teachers and their social roles in the community. Second, a high majority of teachers interviewed expressed dissatisfaction because they believed other teachers to have undue influence and power. However, interview data suggested that power was distributed properly but pervasive informal decision making processes led to the widespread perception of favoritism. In addition, teachers often exercised influence because no one opposed them. This study suggests that research to gain a better understanding of the sociology of rural communities needs to be conducted in rural education generally and specifically in rural teacher job satisfaction. Rural teachers' job satisfaction is complexly intertwined with a wide range of factors. Suggested uses for this study include an invitation for rural administrators and teachers to incorporate issues related to job satisfaction into their school improvement and professional development strategies. Addressing the factors influencing rural teacher job satisfaction, which have been previously overlooked, affords rural administrators a new opportunity to positively influence teacher retention, teacher quality, student achievement, and school climate.

AN INVESTIGATION OF GROW CUT ALGORITHM FOR SEGMENTATION OF MRI SPINAL CORD IMAGES IN NORMALS AND PATIENTS WITH SCI

Kayal, Nilanjan January 2012 (has links)
In spinal cord injury the amount of total surviving white matter is known to be strongly related to post injury neurological functions (1). Accurate segmentation of these regions is shown to be critical in terms of developing effective treatment (1). Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) has been shown to be effective in obtaining spinal cord images (2). However challenges still exist in clear separation of gray/white/cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) structures within the cord using DTI. The purpose of this study is to (1) test a semi-automatic tissue segmentation algorithm based on grow cut algorithm (GCA), to classify CSF, gray and white matter in conventional T2 weighted MRI and Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) images in pediatric spinal cord injury (SCI) subjects, and (2) to compare the results of semi-automatic GCA segmentation with manually segmented spinal cord data performed on various DTI images by a board certified pediatric neuroradiologist. Results show that semi-automatic segmentation of the spinal cord using GCA was successfully implemented. Qualitatively, good separation of cord/CSF was seen in B0, CFA and FA maps (of a representative patient with SCI and a control using this GCA method. They demonstrate more homogeneous signal within the cervical spinal cord as well as greater conspicuity of the cord and surrounding CSF interface. Quantitative analysis of images segmented using GCA and manual segmentation between and within the groups showed no significant differences in CFA (p=0.1347) and FA (p=0.1442) images but B0 (p=0.0001) images showed statistically significant differences. Overall, in both the controls and subjects with SCI, quantitative and qualitative analysis showed a superior semi-automated segmentation on CFA and FA images over a B0 image the using modified GCA. Key words: Grow Cut Algorithm (GCA), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), segmentation, Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI), cervical spinal cord, cerebral-spinal fluid (CSF). / Bioengineering

Community College Grow Your Own Leadership: A Phenomenological Study of Employee Perceptions of Individual and Organizational Leadership Development

DeLozier, John 01 August 2019 (has links)
Community colleges often face challenges with leadership as a result of retirements and turnover. In reaction to these challenges some community colleges have developed Grow Your Own (GYO) leadership development programs. Although the topic of leadership and leadership development has been researched extensively, more research is necessary concerning GYO programs and their perceived impact on participants and their colleges. This study was designed to determine the perceived development of GYO participants as well as the perception of a GYO’s impact on the organization. Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) in Greensboro, North Carolina has had a GYO program for 30 years. A qualitative research method with a phenomenological theory design was used in this study. After obtaining permission from GTCC the 10 study participants were recruited through emails. Interviews were semi structured with questions designed to encourage discussion around the topic of leadership development. After each participant was interviewed, transcripts of the interview were made by the researcher and those transcripts were coded to determine themes. After the coding analysis was complete, common themes emerged. Each of the participants reported to have had previous roles in leadership prior to coming to GTCC. Most of the participants reported positive change because of attendance in the GYO in the areas of relationship building, networking, changed perspective of college role and mission, and better preparedness for future leadership opportunities. These findings supported earlier research that found GYO programs to be successful in creating valuable relationships across the organization. Research also supported the common theme of relationships formed both horizontally and vertically within the organization. Another common theme addressed in earlier research was the development of social capital development within the GYO program. This happens when individuals are brought together around information, given an action point, and asked to solve relevant organizational problems. This study may be useful for community colleges that already offer a GYO opportunity or are considering developing a GYO opportunity. Further research may be needed to determine the impact of the GYO leadership development training on those reporting to the participants of the program.
