The aim of this thesis is to describe children’s own perspectives on being scouts and to describe the scout movement as a cultural phenomenon. The thesis is based on interviews with 34 members of the movement and studies of archive material and contemporary documents. It is also based on a social constructivist view of knowledge. The results show that the movement seems to lack profile and is decentralised and secularised from the children’s point of view. They say that the movement’s history, the scout law, the scout oath and religion do not have great meaning. The movement has changed and membership today is not what it used to be. The children are scouts, but not too “scouty”. The informants find that outsiders think that the movement is “geeky”, but it can have a high status among elderly people. The informants react to the “geekiness” by not caring, hiding the fact that they are members, not telling anyone or protesting against other people’s views on the subject. This “geeky” label and the informants’ reactions to it can be seen as an unexpressed initiation rite to becoming a scout. It is something the members have to go through to be seen as worthy scouts. Being a scout is not considered rebellion against adults. Scouts can be seen as lacking youth culture patterns, adapting to an organized recreational activity. However, being a scout can be considered rebellion against other youngsters; some informants for example wore the scout uniforms in school. Some informants think that they have the correct picture of the movement and that outsiders have the wrong one. This strengthens their feeling of togetherness. Thus they are rebellious by being well-behaved. They fight against a dominating culture. Hence the scout movement works as a subculture even though it was created by adults.

Modelling tools for quieter vehicles : Waves in poro– and visco–elastic continuaÖstberg, Martin January 2012 (has links)
New modelling tools intended to contribute to the development of components for quieter vehicles are developed. The tools are based on continuum models for wave propagation in poro– and visco–elastic media. By using geometric attributes of the studied components, the computational cost may be radically decreased compared to traditional methods. By assigning known analytical functions for one or two of the spatial directions, the spatial dimension of the remaining numerical problem is reduced. This reduction of spatial dimensions is performed in two di↵erent ways. The first one treats wave propagation in infinitely extended homogeneous and hollowed cylindrical rods, or wave guides, consisting of visco–elastic media. The wave solutions obtained are then used to model rubber vibration isolators of finite length by mode–matching the fields to the radial boundary conditions of interest. The second one is a method for modelling rotationally symmetric multilayered structures consisting of poro–elastic, elastic and fluid domains. By using a harmonic expansion for the azimuthal spatial dependence, the original three–dimensional problem is split up into several, much smaller, two– dimensional ones, radically decreasing the computational load. Moreover, using a mixed measurement/modelling approach, the audible frequency range characteristics of a viscous damper from a truck is studied, illustrating the influence of the rubber bushings by which it is attached to surrounding structures. The modelling approaches presented in this thesis are intended as tools aiding the design process of new vehicles, enabling new technology striving for more sustainable vehicle concepts. Dans la gamme de fréquence térahertz (THz), les sources et les détecteurs couramment utilisés en optique et en électronique présentent une chute de performances. Mon travail de thèse s'inscrit dans le cadre de la recherche de composants THz peu onéreux, compacts, accordables en fréquence et facile à intégrer. Le premier volet de mon travail de thèse concerne la détection THz et met à profit le couplage entre une onde incidente THz et des plasmons d'un gaz bidimensionnel d'électrons (2DEG) via des réseaux métalliques déposés au-dessus d'hétérostructures. Quatre puits quantiques à base de semi-conducteurs III/V(AlGaN/GaN, AlGaAs/GaAs, InAlN/GaN) et IV/IV (SiGe/Si/SiGe) ont été étudiés. Parmi les hétérostructures envisagées, celles réalisées à partir de matériaux III-N présentent les plus fortes résonances. Des mesures de spectre de transmission ont été effectuées avec un spectromètre à transformée de Fourier (FTIR) à température ambiante et cryogénique. Les modélisations numériques sont en bon accord avec les résultats expérimentaux. Une étude sur l'influence de la distribution homogène ou inhomogène du gaz d'électrons 2D est présentée. Le deuxième volet de la thèse concerne l'optimisation de la transmission THz. Les performances (dipsersions et les pertes) des guides d'onde planaires sont mal connues au THz. Nous avons choisi d'étudier des guides d'onde couramment utilisés en hyperfréquence. Dans un premier temps, la dispersion et les pertes (rayonnement, conduction et diélectrique) de lignes coplanaires (CPW) sur substrat polymère (BCB = benzocyclobutène) et substrat semiconducteur (InP) obtenues grâce à des modélisations numériques (Ansoft HFSS) entre 20 GHz et 1 THz sont présentées. Puis d'autres types de guides ont été envisagés tels que les lignes micro-ruban, à fente et triplaques sur substrat BCB avec HFSS et CST MWS. Leurs performances ont été comparées afin de dégager la structure la plus performante au THz. Des mesures entre 340 et 500 GHz ont pu aussi être réalisées pour les guides CPW. La comparaison avec les données numériques a montré un bon accord.

In general, since regular size-reduction of pictures often results in visually incomplete bitmaps, the goal of this thesis is to provide a better overview on the process of reduction where the important features of the original picture are maintained throughout the reduction phase.

If you move from Sweden to Portugal to work as an Art Director at an Ad agency, there are certain things you ought to know. Perhaps even before you decide to move. There are a lot of things that are quite different if you compare Portugal to Sweden, not only the language, but also the design, software, working hours and much more. You have for example two month with double salary, you work till six p.m. and when it comes to maternity leave, you have 100% compensation with no taxes the first four months of every pregnancy. The tasks you have to handle as an Art Director in Portugal may, as in Sweden, be various. The difference is more how you solve your task and what the design looks like. As a Swede in Portugal the solution will probably look like a mixture between the Portuguese “expressive” and the Swedish “clean” design. This degree project discusses questions that might turn up when a Swede gets employed as an Art Director in Portugal. What will the salary be? When, in the morning, is it time to show up at the office? How many weeks of vacations are entitled? There are a lot of distinctions, but also a lot of similarities. The report is mainly based upon the author’s own experiences of the Ad agency McCann-Erickson in Lisbon. The history of McCann-Erickson starts in New York, 1930 and grew rapidly into one of the leading corporation with agencies all over the world. It is still today one of the world’s largest Ad company with clients like Coca-Cola and General Motors, and the slogan “truth well told” still lights up all their agencies after almost a century, just like a leading star.

Mobile Guide System has usually applied to enclosed spaces such as museums or exposition halls, but the prosperity of internet has made mobile application a trend. Then how it could be possible to make good use of mobile guide system in order to strengthen the dispersion of culture values, vibrate industrial economy and extend the life span of local culture industries so that culture and technology can develop mutual effects.
The first stage of this research adopts discovery research to explain the concep-tual framework of local culture industries and mobile guide system and also uses Technology Acceptance Model(TAM) for research while the extended local culture value and consuming information values act as external factors to mobile guide sys-tem¡¦s Media Richness Theory(MRT). The second stage uses positive and qualitative research method to analyze the affecting factors to behavior intention of tourists from Anping Harbor National Historical Park about the mobile guide system applying to local culture industries. The total research tests are 250 copies and the effective tests are 226 copies.
The research discovers that tourists have evolved from traditionally receiving information after arriving at the destination to collecting travling information beforehand. In the future, tourists would immediately receive information during traveling. This research considers that the development of local culture industries should acquire local culture values and local consuming values, which would strengthen the behavior intention of using mobile guide system. This discovery points out that mobile guide system can enhance the traveling happiness of tourists and lower searching cost. The information from tourist centers would be considered as one kind of hygiene factors and the messages passed from mobile guide system could be actively received by tourists to form different motivation in travel marketing and satisfaction.

Embedded dots by UV laser technique inside glasses for light guide and brightnessWu, Yu-Jhih 09 August 2010 (has links)
Microstructures are usually fabricated on the surface of optical sheets to improve the optical characteristics. In this study, a new fabrication process with UV (ultraviolet) laser direct writing method is developed to embed microstructures inside the glass. Then the optical properties of glass such as reflection and refraction indexes can be modified. Single- and multi-layer microstructures are designed and embedded inside glasses to modify the optical characteristics. Both luminance and uniformity can be controlled with the embedded microstructures. Thus, the glass with inside pattern can be used as a light guide plate to increase optical performance. First, an optical software, FRED, is applied to design the microstructure configuration. Then, UV laser direct writing with output power: 2.5~ 2.6 W, repetition rate: 30 kHz, wave length: 355nm and pulse duration: 15ns is used to fabricate the microstructures inside the glass. The effect of pattern dimension such as the pitch, the layer gap, and the number of layer on the optical performance is discussed. Machining capacity of UV laser is ranging from micron to submicrometer; hence various dimensions of dot, line width, and layers can be easily embedded in the glass by one simple process. In addition, the embedded microstructures can be fabricated less damage and contamination. Finally, the optical performance of the glasses with various configurations is measured by using Spectra Colorometer (Photo Research PR650) and compared with the simulated results.

with interviews with Professor Hong Wanlong and Mr. Zhangjian Zhiting of National Science and Technology Museum, to understand how exhibitors evaluate mobile guide systems. Combined with analysis and induction of perspectives and variables from studies of past journals, sub-perspectives of ¡§ fit¡§and ¡§viability¡§ are built. Then, for a through statistical survey, a questionnaire survey is conducted to explore the
wiliness of exhibitors to implement mobile guide systems.
Analysis revealed that localization, sufficient storage for databases, mobility and timeliness showed positive correlations between the ¡§ fit¡§ perspective, while financial concern, infrastructure of information technology, support from top management and
capability of information technology department showed their positive correlations with the ¡§viability¡§ perspective. However, the ¡§financial concern¡¨ factor showed a lower significance level than others, indicating that for exhibitors the factor is taken
into account but not the most important concern.

Halogen lamps are mostly applied as a light source to the traditional lamp for medical treatment due to its proper color temperature, but it has its disadvantages such as ultraviolet rays and infrared rays which will be harmful to the patients and faculties in the hospitals under long-term exposure. Consequently, using light emitting diode(LED) as a new light source instead of the traditional halogen lamp will be the trend of the future. The purpose of this study is to design a projective LED dental lamp that can achieve the goals of 200mm¡Ñ100mm for light shape and 11000lux illuminance energy by using the optics simulation software, LightTools. Firstly, a single LED lamp module with a high focusing hollow tubular light guide structure was designed and developed comparing with the solid light guide structure used in many commercial projective dental lamp, the hollow tubular light guide structure can decrease illuminance energy lose due to the absorption by tube material. Because the required objective light shape could not be achieved by using the designed light guide structure only, so a lens component was adopted and designed in order to shrink the output light shape to the required size. Finally, through the specific arrangement of position and angle of each LED lamp module, a projective LED dental lamp with 9 LEDs lamp modules which conform with the required illuminance energy was proposed.
