Conceptual Design of a Cable Attachment Device for a Mining Machine / Konceptuell Konstruktion för en Kabelupphängningsanordning för en GruvmaskinHällfors, Oscar January 2017 (has links)
This report is the result of a master thesis project from the master in machine design at KTH in cooperation with Svea Teknik AB and Atlas Copco Rock Drills AB. Atlas Copco’s department for rock drills and excavation is currently developing a new machine for underground mining. The machine is supposed to work without any operators on it or around it while it excavates. The machine and its systems should therefore be able to be controlled remotely or autonomously. To operate the machine without any operators nearby the machine demands a device that could handle and attach the cables and hoses necessary for the machine to operate on the mine wall as it operates and excavates. The purpose of this master thesis has therefore been to design such a device. The project included many stages such as a background study, concept generation, concept evaluation, concept development and documentation. During the concept generation phase eight concepts of hangers to attach the cables and hoses to the wire mesh was generated. One of these hangers was then chosen to use later with the device. With the hanger chosen five concepts for the device was generated and after a short evaluation of the concepts one was chosen to develop further. The concept was verified with the requirement specification in consideration. The final concept is based on a link arm system that attaches the hanger and cables at the same time on to the wire mesh.

Beitrag zur Optimierung von Netzwerkbogenbrücken / Contribution to Optimizing Network Arch BridgesTeich, Stephan 16 April 2012 (has links) (PDF)
This work of research will tackle the development of an optimal structure for network arch bridges. The systematic employment of potentials to optimize these bridge structures will be examined for selected structural members. Suggestions for the construction of the bridge system and of selected details as well as basics for calculation and design will be developed. This paper will focuses mainly on the design of fatigue-proof hanger connections, statically efficient hanger networks as well as arches, which have a high load carrying capacity along with low material consumption.
In order to provide sufficient security against fatigue failure for the decisive connections of the hanger bars, stress peaks that cause cracks have to be minimized and homogeneous stress distribution within the whole element has to be ensured. Initially, this paper will delineate an optimal solution for hanger connections by means of parameter-based shape optimization and subsequent topology adaptation. In the following, an analytic formula for the stress concentration factor of this connection will be developed in order to enable the application of the notch stress concept for hanger connections.
To apply the static advantages of network arch bridges efficiently, the arrangement of the hangers is essential. In order to determine the most efficient hanger arrangement, five possible hanger arrangements with varying parameters (slope of the hangers, number of the hangers and span of the bridge) will be analyzed and evaluated with respect to systematically selected static criteria. On the basis of these investigations, recommendations for engineers how to choose an optimized hanger arrangement according to different geometrical bridge parameters will be made.
Additionally, the constructive design of the arches and the upper wind bracing as well as the associated structural behavior are significant when an efficient network arch bridge is to be designed. For this reason, this paper will analyze the influence of the arch-shape, the arch-geometry and the arch-stiffness as well as the design and construction of other structural members on the stability of the arch. Based on these results, the constructive parameters will be optimized in order to reduce the steel weight of the arch without significantly reducing the load carrying capacity. Furthermore, the influence of different imperfections on the arch stability will be analyzed and the form and size of the decisive initial deflections emphasized.
Finally, systematically selected examples will provide a comparison between the developed solutions and existing bridge structures in order to demonstrate the efficiency of the optimized structure.

New Governments in Queensland: Industrial Relations, 1957-1961, 1989-1990Fleming, Jenny, n/a January 1998 (has links)
This thesis sets out to examine the capacity of new governments to influence partisan-based policy and legislation. It examines two newly elected Queensland governments - the Nicklin Country-Liberal government in 1957- 1961 and the Goss Labor government in 1989- 1990 and analyses the introduction by those governments of major industrial relations legislative reform. The Nicklin Coalition government was elected to the Queensland parliament in 1957 after the collapse of the Gair Labor government. The Coalition was committed to extensive industrial relations legislative reform but had not prepared for, or anticipated the constitutional, administrative and legal problems associated with such reform. Nor had it taken into account the concessions that would need to be made to the state's trade unions in order to effect its reforms. Consequently it was not until 1961 that it found the time was propitious for the introduction of its major legislative reforms and the restructuring of the state's principal industrial relations legislation. By contrast, in 1989 the Goss government elected as a consequence of the National Party's collapse in the face of the Fitzgerald Inquiry of 1987 had prepared itself for government. As a result it was able to take advantage of its newly elected status and the existence of the Hanger Report (1988) to introduce its legislative intentions quickly, in such a way that it did not alienate the business community. Preparation and circumstances therefore allowed Labor to repeal earlier legislation supported by business and introduce its own changes with little or no opposition. The thesis concludes that their political and economic inheritance and the existing policy environment will in varying degrees limit new governments. But their ability to introduce partisan-based legislative change quickly is also determined by the degree of preparation for the process of government, undertaken prior to their election. This thesis demonstrates that new governments can make a difference and effect changes to the industrial relations environment. However if this potential is to be realised and new governments are to take advantage of their newly elected status it will require a significant degree of administrative preparation or a considerable period of acclimatisation to the rigours of office.

Lateral-Torsional Buckling Instability Caused by Individuals Walking on Wood Composite I-JoistsVillasenor Aguilar, Jose Maria 14 January 2013 (has links)
Recent research has shown that a significant number of the falls from elevation occur when laborers are working on unfinished structures. Workers walking on wood I-joists on roofs and floors are prone to fall hazards. Wood I-joists have been replacing dimension lumber for many floor systems and a substantial number of roof systems in light-frame construction. Wood I-joists are designed to resist axial stresses on the flanges and shear stresses on the web while minimizing material used. However, wood I-joists have poor resistance to applied lateral and torsional loads and are susceptible to lateral-torsional buckling instability. Workers walking on unbraced or partially braced wood I-joists can induce axial and lateral forces as well as twist. Experimental testing demonstrated that workers cause lateral-torsional buckling instability in wood I-joists. However, no research was found related to the lateral-torsional buckling instability induced by individuals walking on the wood I-joists. Furthermore, no research was found considering the effects of the supported end conditions and partial bracing in the lateral-torsional buckling instability of wood I-joists.
The goal of this research was to derive mathematical models to predict the dynamic lateral-torsional buckling instability of wood composite I-joists loaded by individuals walking considering different supported end conditions and bracing system configurations. The dynamic lateral-torsional buckling instability was analyzed by linearly combining the static lateral-torsional buckling instability with the lateral bending motion of the wood I-joists. Mathematical models were derived to calculate the static critical loads for the simply supported end condition and four wood I-joist hanger supported end conditions. Additionally, mathematical models were derived to calculate the dynamic maximum lateral displacements and positions of the individual walking on the wood I-joists for the same five different supported end conditions. Three different lean-on bracing systems were investigated, non-bracing, one-bracing, and two-bracing systems. Mathematical models were derived to calculate the amount of constraint due to the lean-on bracing system. The derived mathematical models were validated by comparison to data from testing for all supported end conditions and bracing systems
The predicted critical loads using the static buckling theoretical models for the non-bracing system and the static buckling theoretical models combined with the bracing theoretical models for the simply and hanger supported end conditions agreed well with the critical loads obtained from testing for the two wood I-joist sizes investigated. The predicted maximum lateral displacements and individual positions using the bending motion theoretical models for the simply and hanger supported end conditions agreed well with the corresponding maximum lateral displacements and individual positions obtained from testing for both wood I-joist sizes. Results showed that; a) the supported end condition influenced the critical loads, maximum lateral displacements and individual positions, b) the bracing system increased the critical loads and reduced the maximum lateral displacements, c) the critical load increased as the load position displaced away from the wood I-joist mid-span, d) the critical load reduced as the initial lateral displacement of the wood I-joist increased and e) the wood I-joist mid-span was the critical point in the dynamic lateral-torsional buckling instability. / Ph. Návrh a posouzení prefabrikovaných nosníků uložených ozubem / Design and analysis of precast dapped-end beamsHasa, Michal January 2018 (has links)
The doctoral thesis deals with the analysis of the dapped-end beam detail, in terms of theoretical modelling and practical design using the strut-and-tie method as well as experimental verification of the bearing capacity and the behaviour of the detail under load by means of load tests and subsequent numerical nonlinear analysis. A summary of known structural and static designs explored in the literature has been presented. In addition, the strut-and-tie method has been introduced as an appropriate tool for a consistent design of the detail, element or the whole structure. The theoretical basis for the method has been described, including the general methodology for design and analysis. Practical problems have been discussed, specifically those resulting from the known design of the analysed detail based on the German approach; its modification has been processed theoretically taking into account the practical mode of reinforcement. An experiment has been suggested with a view to verify the presented calculation procedure and the influence of the used ratio of vertical to inclined hanger reinforcement on the bearing capacity and behaviour of the detail under load. The experiment also included accompanying material tests of the concrete which were used along with the inspection certificates issued for the used reinforcement as a basis for the nonlinear finite element analysis. Based on the results, the presented design procedure can be considered safe. These results also imply that the chosen ratio of vertical and inclined hanger reinforcements has no influence on the ultimate bearing capacity within practical reinforcement, as it only influences the formation, development and final width of cracks. With the growing ratio of the inclined hanger reinforcement, the width and density of cracks decreases at all stages of loading. Owing to their limitations, primarily during the service state, it is recommended that the minimal inclined reinforcement should be used.

Mekanisk prestanda hos traditionella träfogar kontra samtida byggbeslag / Mechanical performance of traditional wood joints compared to contemporary steel fastenersDahl, Arvid, Lindström, Charlie January 2018 (has links)
Societies demand for environmentally friendly and sustainable construction is ever increasing. One way to meet these new demands on environmentally friendly construction is to use more wood which decreases carbon emissions through the substitution effect. This report aims to research whether traditional joinery techniques entirely executed in wood can replace contemporary joinery techniques in future construction. The goal is to show whether this is possible from a strength standpoint. The research will be limited in that it will strictly seek to study a pillar-beamconnection where the traditional joint researched will be three varying mortise and tenon joints and the contemporary joint is a joist hanger. The joints will be analyzed with calculation and experimentation where the load case aims to produce mainly shear in the joint. The results point towards it being possible to introduce this traditional joint in contemporary construction.

La métaphore du cintre : corps et apparition dans les défilés de mode / Metáfora do cabide : corpo e aparição nos desfiles de moda / Metaphor of the hanger : body and apparition in the fashion showsCosta Leahy, Renata 05 November 2018 (has links)
The fashion shows place to visuality dressing proposals on human bodies, generally those of the thin models. In the contemporary context, sometimes they are praised as canons of beauty, and at other times they are questioned about the reality of their corporal shapes and the quality of their presence and action on the runways: they are often seen as clothing hangers. But they are the ones who, allied to the clothes, conform human figures, in attitudes that aim the composition of possibilities of apparition. Our study investigates the process of this put in form, by examining the dressed bodies in fashion shows, using as examples for analysis the bodies in runways of four brazilian brands/designers of the October 2016 season of São Paulo Fashion Week: Animale, Lab, Água de Coco and Ronaldo Fraga. We start from the comprehension of the visuals presented in fashion shows as dressed bodies, in which body and clothes work together for the composition of the form in possibilities of combinations; and the kinetic capacity of body and clothing, an element that dynamizes the human visual. In this sense, we look for this realization of the dressed bodies in fashion shows through their action and their body movements, which are the competence of their sensitive dimension, related, therefore, with culture and space in an intersubjective way. Such a thought urges us to take into account, in this studied put in form, the relation of bodies with the types of fashion shows and with their elements, such as location, sound, props, the whole symbolic atmosphere of the elaborated presentation. The dressed bodies in fashion shows are thus revealed as complex, sensitive and expressive shapes and forms of body leaks / Os desfiles de moda colocam à visualidade propostas vestimentares sobre corpos humanos, geralmente os das modelos magras.
