Pereira, Marcia Pithan January 2012 (has links)
Introduction: HER-2 overexpression is correlated with aggressiveness in breast and gastric cancers, and its detection has been incorporated as routine in the analysis of these neoplasms. Ideal criteria for evaluation of HER-2 in pancreatic cancer remain unclear. Objectives: to assess the HER-2 status and its predictive value in pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Material and methods: clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical analysis were undertaken in 112 patients with pancreatic cancer using the criteria proposed for breast (HercepTest™) and stomach cancer (ToGA Trial). Results: using HercepTest™ 5 (4.5%) cases had a score of 3+, 3 (2.7%) had a score of 2+ and 104 (92.9%) had scores of 0/1 +. By ToGA Trial, 9 (8.0%) obtained score of 3+, 32 (28.6%) had a score of 2+ score and 71 (63.4%) had scores of 0/1 +. All positive cases by HercepTest™ also went to the ToGA Trial. Patients with overexpression (3 +) showed greater survival than those without (0 to 2 +) by both HercepTest™ and ToGa Trial (43.88 vs. 10.3 months, p = 0.029 and 40.7 vs. 10.1 months, p = 0.013, respectively). Other parameters did not show correlation with the expression of HER-2. Conclusion: differences in incidence and prognostic significance of overexpression may be explained from small sample size and the use of two different criteria of positivity for HER-2. These results serve as an impulse for new investigations of overexpression/amplification of the HER-2 using, besides immunohistochemistry, FISH and SISH methods, in order to get more treatment options to provide patients, as agents anti-HER-2.

Slim Moly S makes hydrogen : Layer dependent electrocatalysis in hydrogen evolution reaction with individual MoS2 nanodevices / Slanka Moly S gör väte : Lagerberoende elektrokatalys vid generering av väte med individuella MoS2 nanoenheter.

Brischetto, Martin January 2018 (has links)
Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has been demonstrated to be a potential catalyst in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Due to its highly active edge site, abundance, and low cost, it rivals Pt. However, the potential activity of the MoS2 basal plane has largely been ignored. The physical characteristics of MoS2 and its corresponding band structure change significantly with decreasing thickness, especially at the monolayer limit. Thus, an investigation on the thickness dependence may provide important insights into the MoS2 basal plane activity. In this thesis, the layer dependent electrocatalytic performance is investigated with mono-, bi- and multilayer MoS2 based individual nanodevices. Three conclusions were reached. (1) Monolayers showed exchange current densities more than one order of magnitude higher than that of the multilayers, 0.12 mA/cm2 and 8.7 mA/cm2, respectively. Furthermore, the onset potential of the monolayer was several hundred millivolts lower than that of the multilayer, about 0.2 V vs RHE for the monolayer versus 0.5 V vs RHE for the multilayer. The Tafel slope of 100-200 mV/dec revealed that the rate limiting step was the adsorption of hydrogen. (2) Interestingly, the bilayer sample exhibited an increase in its exchange current density from 0.3 mA/cm2 to 8 mA/cm2 when cycled extensively. This is suspected to be caused by intercalation of hydrogen between the atomic layers. (3) Additionally, the back-gate voltage is applied to tune the Fermi level of the material and the catalytic performance. It was found that the back-gate voltage induces an irreversible change in all samples, increasing the exchange current density by an order of magnitude. The superior basal plane performance of the monolayers to that of the multilayers reveals a new way to optimize the performance of MoS2 as a HER catalyst. In addition, the results above illuminate the yellow brick road to potential improvements in other layered materials as well.

These studies result in texts as The Preplatonic Philosophers, also known as Lessons on Pre-platonic Philosophers, and Philosophy in Greek tragic age. Using both texts as sources, this dissertation aims elucidating the Nietzsche's interpretation about Heraclitus, in other words, comprehend how Nietzsche recognizes in Heraclitus a philosopher with an aesthetic vision of the world, a contemplative and cheerful view of the world, the becoming, defined by the incessant change, as a child's play that builds and destroy sand castles on the shore. This spectacle, as Nietzsche believed, would be unveiled first by Heraclitus and must be contemplated eternally / No in?cio dos anos de 1870, o fil?sofo alem?o Friedrich Nietzsche, professor de filologia em Basileia, realiza pesquisas sobre os antigos fil?sofos gregos. / The Aeneid, an epic poem written by Publius Vergilius Maro, is dated 19 a. Josenir Barreto de Sousa 13 July 2007 (has links)
The present work shows the study of the ultrasound irradiation influence in the electrodeposition of Ni-Fe coatings. The electrocatalytic performance of these coatings for the hydrogen evolution reaction (her) in alkaline medium was also evaluated. The Ni-Fe coatings were obtained from plating solutions containing 0.06 mol.dm-3 Ni2SO4.6H2O, 0.48 mol.dm-3 Na3C3H5O7.2H2O, 0.71 mol.dm-3 Na2CO3 and 0.16 mol.dm-3 (bath 1) and 0.04 mol.dm-3 FeSO4.7H2O (bath 2). It was also added 8.4 mL L-1 H2SO4 to maintain the pH below 1. The electrodepositions were carried out under galvanostatic control in the range of 10 mA cm-2 to 50 mA cm-2, at room temperature (≈ 28ÂC) and at 55ÂC in the presence and in the absence of ultrasound irradiation. All coatings were deposited on disk mild steel substrate with an exposed geometric area of 0.7 cm2. The hydrogen evolution reaction was studied in 0.5 mol.dm-3 NaOH. In all electrochemical experiments Pt was the auxiliary electrode and Hg/HgO, OH- (0,5 mol.dm-3) was the reference one. The coatings ware characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), cyclic voltammetry (CV) and the electrocatalytic properties of the Ni-Fe coating were evaluated by Tafel polarization and long-term performance tests. The results showed that the use of the ultrasound irradiation leads to an increase of the Fe content in the electrodeposits. Additionally, the coatings obtained in presence of ultrasound also present the best performance for her.
