Lärares kompetensutveckling och digitalisering av matematikundervisning : En enkätstudie om hur lågstadielärare kompetensutvecklar sig för att bemöta digitalisering av matematikundervisning / Teachers’ professional development and digitization of mathematics education : A survey about how primary school teachers develop their competence to meet the digitalization of mathematics education

Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka hur lågstadielärare fortbildade sig för att kunna möta de krav som ställs på dem vad det gäller digitalisering av matematikundervisning samt hur detta hänger samman med deras upplevda kompetens samt användning av IKT i matematikundervisningen.För att uppfylla syftet samlades studiens empiriska data in via en webbaserad enkätundersökning, som besvarades av 76 lågstadielärare. Resultatet visade att de flesta lågstadielärarna kompetensutvecklade sig på en mängd varierande sätt såväl på den formella arenan som på den informella arenan. Dessutom framkom det i resultatet att de lågstadielärare som fortbildade sig via webbaserade kompetensutvecklingssätt på den formella arenan i kombination med alla sätt på den informella arenan, högst uppskattade sina kunskaper inom delområdena TCK, TPK och TPACK samt använde IKT på flest sätt inom flest matematikområden. Vidare framkom det också att majoriteten av lågstadielärare fortbildade sig på alla sätt på båda arenor.Dessa lågstadielärare upplevde ha höga kunskaper i alla tre delområden, men deras IKT-användning låg på genomsnittsnivån för studiens samtliga kompetensutvecklingsformer. / The purpose of this study was to research how primary school teachers developed their professional competences/knowledges to meet the demands placed on them regarding the digitalization of mathematics education and how this is related to their perceived knowledges and their use of ICT in mathematics education. In order to fulfill the purpose, the empirical data of the study was collected through a questionnaire, which answered by 76 primary school teachers. The result showed that the majority of teachers developed their professional competences/knowledges in a variety of ways, both I the formal and informal arena. Moreover, the result indicated that the prime school teachers who engaged in online professional development activities in the formal arena combined with both online and traditional development activities in the informal area, highly experienced their knowledges in the TCK, TPK och TPACK sub-areas and used ICT in the most variety ways in the most mathematical areas. Furthermore, it also emerged the majority of primary school teachers engaged in both online and traditional development activities in both areas. These primary school teachers experienced good knowledge in all three sub-areas, but their ICT usage was on the average level for all the professional development model of the study.

Conversational agents in a family context : A qualitative study with children and parents investigating their interactions and worries regarding conversational agents

Conversational agents such as Siri, Google and Alexa are growing in popularity, and Artificial Intelligence in the form of natural language processing utilized by these agents is becoming more available and capable with time. Understanding how conversational agents are used today and what implications it has for our daily lives is important if this trend is going to continue. In this thesis I present how children interact with conversational agents today and the implications this has for families. Four families with children in the age of 6-9 were interviewed regarding how children interact with conversational agents today, what concerns parents have and how they view the agent. The results show that children regard the conversational agent as a tool, and that the primary interactions are entertainment and exploration. Parents were concerned what the agent might say when they are not there, and do not feel in control of the agent. In the beginning children have high expectations on the capabilities of the agent but quickly assess the capabilities through experimentation.

Combating online child sexual abuse material. An explorative study of Swedish police investigations

Online child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is a growing problem that transcends geographical borders. In order to improve cooperation between international law enforcement, knowledge concerning the jurisdiction, procedure and issues with investigations in different countries is needed. This study aims to provide information on the Swedish context by (a) exploring how the Swedish police work with investigations of online CSAM, and (b) identifying potential challenges. The research questions have been answered by qualitative interviews with law enforcement personnel. Systematic text condensation revealed that there is a significant difference in the procedure between the police regions and that four major problems face the police. First, the police are dependent upon digital forensic experts but have limited access to their expertise and other resources due to the crime not being prioritised. Second, Internet Service Providers are not required to save their users IP-addresses, which complicates identification of the suspect. Third, a holistic perspective within the police is required. Investigators should work with all sexual crimes against children and not just CSAM, in order to be able to see reoccurring elements in the identification process. Four, there is a lack of public knowledge concerning CSAM that affects the resources and number of cases the police receive. The Swedish police is currently creating regional cybercrime centres in an attempt to create a national strategy for computer-related investigations. The implications on the victim identification process and development of treatment for offenders are discussed, as well as future directions. Clearer guidelines are needed.

Detta arbete handlar om ämnet informations- och kommunikationsteknik (IKT) i förskolans verksamhet. Styrdokumenten har nyligen reviderats och arbetet med det digitala i förskolan har förtydligats. Det är av största vikt att alla som arbetar i förskola utvecklar sin förståelse och kunskap av digitalisering, för att kunna se vilka möjligheter och utmaningar det innebär. Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka hur kunskapen kring IKT ser ut i förskolan utifrån förskollärares perspektiv. För att undersöka detta har data samlats in med hjälp av en webbenkät där 41 förskollärare deltog. Resultatet visar att förskollärare är positiva till att arbeta med IKT men de upplever att det finns en tvivelaktig och kritisk syn på IKT som ämne. Förskollärarna redogör för vilka möjligheter de ser med IKT och hur de kan bidra till att barn utvecklar digital kompetens. Samtidigt vittnar de om en brist på kunskap hos kollegor samt avsaknad av engagemang från ledning och kommun. Studien synliggör att förskollärare förväntar sig att styrdokumentens nya riktlinjer kommer att ge stöd och motivation att arbeta med IKT. Slutligen diskuteras vilka förutsättningar förskollärare behöver för att följa sitt uppdrag och för att kunna integrera IKT i undervisningen.

Investigating technology acceptance in public secondary schools in Pretoria

The purpose of this study was to explore the extent to which ICT (Information Communication Technology) is accepted and used in teaching in four public South African schools. The constructs of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) were used to generate an understanding of educators’ technology acceptance and use in their classrooms for the purpose of teaching. It is generally understood that for the model to be successfully implemented, all the pillars of this theoretical framework must be present and operational in the classroom. This study followed a qualitative research approach and focused on multiple case studies. The use of a multiple-case study, which involved four schools in Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa within a limited time, allowed the researcher to detect things that could be hidden or go undetected in a large-scale, broader, longitudinal study. Semi-structured interviews allowed the researcher to investigate individuals' opinions, their experiences, beliefs and/or possible motives on certain subjects. This instrument for collecting information allowed for more open-ended questions and is less structured. Data was also collected through field notes, observation and document analysis. The researcher opted to use the Atlas.ti programme to prepare and organise the data for analysis. It can be concluded from the findings that the educators perceived educational technology to be useful. There was a positive consensus among the participants that the technologies received are not difficult to use, and have in fact, reduced their workload.
