The Social Union Framework Agreement : competing and overlapping visions of Canadian federalism

This thesis attempts to develop our understanding of the ultimate interprovincial rupture at the signing of the Social Union Framework Agreement (the SUFA) on February 4, 1999. Questioning the widely accepted "money talk" explanation, which argues that increased federal transfers motivated the ROC provinces to go along with the federal government at the expense of an interprovincial common front with Quebec, this thesis suggests analyzing the dynamics of the SUFA negotiation process with special attention to the visions of Canadian federalism to which the ROC provinces, Quebec, and the federal government had subscribed respectively. This analysis demonstrates that the final split between the ROC provinces and Quebec resulted from their discord over the question whether or not Canada is a mononational federation or a multinational federation.

The aim of this study was to investigate social workers experiences about collaboration with the police in domestic violence issues. About how social workers felt about abilities to improve collaboration in their work. The empirical data consists of qualitative interviews with 11 social workers within the social services in Sweden. In Härnösand, Sundsvall, Gustavsberg och Malmö. The social workers recognized theoretical benefits with collaboration. The social workers also recognized major dificulties in their practice. The practical dificulties caused feelings of frustration, dissatisfaction and insufficency among the social workers. They showed major pessimism about their current work situation. Nevertheless they expressed good-will in their work. All social workers expressed that improvements were necessary. The results of the interviews were analyzed using qualitative content-analysis, and the new institutional theory of organization. The conclusions of the study are: The dificulties were mainly caused by circumstances within the social services organisation rather than between the social services and the police. / <p>2018-05-21</p>

This thesis deals with the problem how social services offered by FOKUS Tábor are effective in terms of subjective quality of life of their clients. The theoretical part is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is devoted to mental illness - classification, symptoms, treatment limitations, which cause mental illness, and life perspective of people with mental illness. The second chapter discusses the quality of life, its assessment and measurement, as well as the factors influencing the quality of life and the quality of life of people with mental illness and the possibilities of its increase. The last chapter deals with the association FOKUS Tábor - characteristics, mission, history and present of the association, its objectives and principles, the services offered and characteristics of the target group. The aim of the study is to determine what role FOKUS Tábor has in improving quality of life of its clients with mental illness. Achieving this goal is realized by interviews with clients of FOKUS Tábor, during which it focuses primarily on how they perceive intervention of the association, thus the efficiency of social services offered. Psykisk ohälsa är ett växande samhällsproblem, både globalt och i Sverige och risken att drabbas ökar med stigande ålder. Depression hos en äldre person kan vara svårt att uppmärksamma. Äldre som utsätts för en ökad psykisk belastning, som till exempel i samband med sjukdom, förluster av närstående och ensamhetskänslor, riskerar att utveckla depressiva symtom. Dessa symtom utsätter den äldre för ett stort lidande, ökar risken att dö i förtid samt utgör en stor samhällskostnad. Syftet var att studera distriktssköterskans erfarenheter när det gäller att uppmärksamma och förbättra depressiva symtom hos äldre inom kommunal hemsjukvård. Metoden var kvalitativ och hade en induktiv ansats. Åtta distriktssköterskor i fem olika kommuner i södra Sverige intervjuades i 30-60 minuter. Med hjälp av en intervjuguide delgav distriktssköterskorna fritt sina erfarenheter. Innehållsanalysen var kvalitativ och innebar att meningsbärande enheter identifierades och processades till underkategorier samt abstraherades till kategorier. I resultatet framkom att distriktssköterskan använde sin intuitiva förmåga samt förlitade sig på sin erfarenhet, då han/hon i mötet och samtalet med den äldre uppmärksammat depressiva symtom. Mötet och samtalet med den äldre visade sig även vara viktiga redskap för att förbättra dessa symtom. Skattningsinstrument nyttjades inte i någon av kommunerna. Distriktssköterskan i hemsjukvården har en unik möjlighet att på ett tidigt stadium uppmärksamma depressiva symtom samt genom olika omvårdnadshandlingar förbättra dessa symtom. Genom att stå upp för den äldres rättighet till den vård och behandling han/hon är i behov av, får distriktssköterskan en nyckelfunktion i rollen som den äldres företrädare. / Mental illness is a growing problem in society, both global and in Sweden and the risk of suffering from depressive symptoms (DS) increases with ageing. It can be difficult to identify DS in an older person. Elderly people are sometimes at a higher risk of mental pressure, when at the same time dealing with sickness, loss of close relationships and loneliness, which often lead to DS. These symptoms cause the elderly person a great suffering, increases the risk of dying prematurely and is a big cost for the society. The aim was to study district nurses experiences when it comes to identify and improve DS by elderly people in municipal home nursing. The method was qualitative and had an inductive approach. Eight district nurses from five different municipalities in southern Sweden were interviewed for 30-60 minutes. The analysis was qualitative which means that parts with meaning contents were identified and processed into categories and subcategories. The result showed that district nurses used their intuitive ability and leaned on their experience, when in an encounter and in a conversation with an elderly person identified DS. The encounter and the conversation with an elderly person turned out to be an important instrument even when it came to improve these symptoms. A valuation scale was not used in any of the municipalities. The district nurse in home nursing has and unique possibility to, in an early stage, identify DS and by different caring actions improve these symptoms. By standing up for the elderly person's right to get the care and treatment he/she is in need of, the district nurse has a key function in the role as the elderly person’s representative.

The aim of this diploma thesis is tree planting method comparison of water retention improving technology (Improve pits) and non-improving technology (Pits). Research was realized on the „Sustainable management of soil, forest and water resources as the pilot model for the rural development in SNNPRS, Ethiopia“ project areas. This project was realized by Mendel university in Brno. Terrain investigations, experimental plot set up and soil sample collection and analyses were realized by devised methodology. Terrain works took a place during July and August 2016. When comparing resulting values, it became clear that the Improve pits technology shows positive effect on soil water retention capacity and its gradual release. This effect creates more suitable conditions for regeneration of damaged vegetation.

Determinants of smallholder maize farmers' varietal choice : a case study of Mogalakwena Local Municipality Limpopo Province, South Africa

Thesis (M. A. Agricultural Science (Agricultural Economics)) -- University of Limpopo, 2021 / Maize seeds differ according to varieties. The traditional maize varieties(also referred to as (Landraces)are maize varieties that have been cultivated and subjected to selection by farmers for generations. They retain a distinct identity and lack formal crop improvement. Improved maize varieties, on the other hand, are bred with characteristics such as drought and disease tolerance. This research was conducted to determine the attributes preferred by farmers when making a maize varietal choice. To be specific, the study aimed to achieve the following objectives:(i) Identify and describe socio economic characteristics of smallholder maizefarmers’ in Mogalakwena Municipality;(ii) Analyse socioeconomic characteristics of smallholder maize farmers in Mogalakwena Municipality;(iii)Identify different maize varieties grown by smallholder farmers in Mogalakwena Municipality, and (iv) determine and analyse factors influencing farmers’ choice of a maize variety. Descriptive statistics and the Multinomial Logistic Regression Mode lwere used for data analysis. The results of the study revealed that 64% of the respondents had formal education. This meant that they have the capability to grasp more information, if provided witht rainings. It was found that 75% of the farmers did not have access to extension service which is supposed to play a significant role in agricultural information dissemination. The most grown maize variety was landrace varieties which constituted 59.5%. This percentage was said to be resultant from limited access to the seed market. Infact, 80% of the farmers had to travel an average o f42 kilomteres to access the market which also had a limited number of varieties. The Multinomial Logistic Regression Model revealed that only 5variables (Educational level, farm size, yield, extension contact and knowledge of maize varieties) were significant at 1%, 5%,1 %,1% and1%, respectively. The majority of farmers were old people with little access to extension service andaninad equate farming knowledge which lead to a high percentage of farmers continuing to grow landrace varieties. Based on thef indings, this study recommend further research on attributes that influence farmers varietal choice and Government intervention in provision for resources and development of existing and new infracstrcture to encourage extension service delivery Keywords: Landrace, improve maize variety, smallholder farmer

I byggbranschen är planering en viktig del för att säkert och effektivt genomföra byggnads- och anläggningsarbeten. En form av planeringsverktyg är arbetsberedning. Med en arbetsberedning görs det analyser på enskilda arbetsmoment, med målet att genomföra arbetet inom rätt tid, ekonomi, kvalitet och bra arbetsmiljö.Syftet med denna rapport är, ur ett arbetsmiljöperspektiv, att kartlägga hur NCC:s arbetsberedningar fungerar i dagsläget, med målet att ge förbättringsförslag. Detta sker genom intervjuer och enkätundersökningar på personalen på NCC.Resultatet visar att personalen på NCC ser arbetsberedningar som ett bra hjälpmedel för att förbättra arbetsmiljön. Däremot finns det brister i dagens arbetssätt kring arbetsberedningar som bör förbättras. Vi rekommenderar NCC att förbättra sitt arbete kring planering, genomförandet och uppföljning av arbetsberedningar. Våra egna förbättringsförslag finns att läsa om under avsnitt ”Rekommendationer”. / To safely and effectively carry through within the construction industry, planning plays an important part. Work preparation is one form of planning. When using the model of work preparations, one analyzes the specific work preparation with the intent and goal to carry through the labor within the beforehand estimated time, budget and quality, while still maintaining satisfying work environment.The aim of this paper is to, from a perspective of work environment, map out how NCC: s work preparations function today. The goal is to provide suggestions for improvement. This can be done by performing interviews and surveys on the NCC employees.The results indicate that the staff of NCC see work preparation as a helping aid in improving work environment. However, there are also shortcomings in the way work preparations are done at NCC, and these could be improved. We therefore recommend NCC to make improvements in the planning, realization and the follow-up phase when setting up a work preparation. Our suggestions for improvement can be found under “recommendations”.

(Curriculum Studies)) -- University of Limpopo, 2022 / This study focuses on alternative strategies to improve the performance of learners with special needs at Khulunolwazi Primary School, Mpumalanga. In South Africa, learners with learning barriers are taught in mainstream schools together with learners who do not have learning barriers. Some mainstream schools are full/service schools. Full-service schools are expected to accommodate learners with learning barriers in their mainstream classrooms. However, the majority of teachers experience challenges on how to address the learning needs of learners with learning barriers. This is coupled with a lack of resources and inflexible curricula for learners with learning barriers. The research was conducted by interviewing sampled participants teaching learners with learning barriers in the Senior Phase. Data was collected from those participants and through analysis of documents such as results and Support Needs and Assessment (SNA) 1 and 2 from the School-Based Support Team file. The research findings were that teachers lack sufficient training and continued support to identify and address challenges or learning barriers, especially to learners with learning barriers in the Senior Phase. Furthermore, the research revealed that there was minimal support from support structures like DoE, parents and other stakeholders in education. Recommendations for future research were discussed in support of learners with learning barriers in the mainstream setting

行動上網之概念已提出多年,然受制於硬體規格限制與資訊實用面廣度、深度不足,因此市場未如預期般快速成長。如今受惠於系統業者廣佈GPRS系統,功能性手機普及化,以及內容提供者積極參與,行動數據服務始展露一絲曙光。和信電訊公司看好市場前景,藉與NTT DoCoMo合資關係引進行動上網服務典範─i-mode。本研究之主要目的旨在檢視目前台灣i-mode服務之品質,經結合理論探討與實務分析,具體提出發展行動數據服務之改善要素。 本研究彌補國內相關研究在深度上之不足,採質性研究法,以NTT DoCoMo發展i-mode服務為模式,就技術、內容、策略和使用之關鍵面向,深入訪談系統業者、內容提供者和使用者後,交叉分析以找出三者認知上之落差,進而推論改善行動數據服務品質之關鍵要素,並提出建議解決方案。 本研究結果發現:系統業者之改善要素包括價格、手機選擇、連線品質、行銷、後端管理及利潤分享;內容提供者之改善要素包括價格、實用性、介面、品牌及獲利模式。本研究最大貢獻亦在於提供相關業者諸多建言及產業發展方針,整體而論:第一,系統業者應致力於提升行動上網平台之可用性;第二,內容提供者宜鎖定目標客群主動創造需求;第三,系統業者和內容提供者應從商業合作關係提升為策略聯盟關係。在延伸討論部份,本研究認為:第一,應建立以內容聚集為中心之商務模式架構;第二,推動XHTML做為改善非人性化介面和網路封閉性之解決方案;第三,將行動數據服務從以個人為單位提升到社會關係的層次;第四,開發企業用途之應用,將服務拓展至企業市場。 / The concept of mobile internet has been introduced many years ago; however, due to the limits of hardware standards and the inadequacies of breadth and depth of information practicability, the market didn’t rise and flourish as expectations. Now because of the benefits of distributions of GPRS network system, popularization of feature cellular phones, and active participation of content providers, the mobile data services start to grow. With faith in good prospects of the market, the KGT company introduced i-mode, the paradigm of mobile internet services, from NTT DoCoMo through their partnership. The main purposes of this research are to view the quality of recent i-mode service in Taiwan, and to concretely propose key improving factors of developing mobile data services through integration of theory reviews and practice analyses. For retrieving the lacks of depth in former domestic researches, this research uses the i-mode service as an example and adopts qualitative research methods by deeply interviewing with the operator, the content providers, as well as the users on critical aspects of the technology, the content, the strategy, and the usage. Then, after cross-analyzing to find gaps of the cognition among the three roles, this research infers the key factors to improve the quality of mobile data services and proposes the corresponding solutions. The major findings of this research are as follows. The improving factors of operators includes the price, the phones selectivity, the connection quality, the marketing, and the profits share. Those of content providers includes the price, the practicability, the interface, the brand, and the profit-earning model. This thesis also contributes many suggestions and guidelines of industry development for relevant players. First, operators should strive for enhancing the usability of mobile internet platforms. Second, content providers ought to aim at target customers and actively create demands. Third, the relationship of operators and content providers must be promoted from business cooperation to strategic alliance. In the section of extended discussions, this research presents several recommendations. First, a framework of content aggregation-centered business models should be established. Second, XHTML should be drived as a solution to improve recent unfriendly interfaces and network closure. Third, mobile data services based on individuals should be raised to a high level based on social relationships. Fourth, services should be expanded to cooperate market by developing applications for enterprise purposes.
