Antonio Maluf: arte concreta na arquitetura moderna paulista (1960/70) / Antonio Maluf: concrete art in Sao Paulo modern architecture (1960/70)Stella Elia Martins Santiago 21 September 2009 (has links)
This masters dissertation presents the work of the artist and designer Antonio Maluf and his participation in architectural projects. Follower of the concrete art Maluf designed murals, panels and facade enhancement during the 1960s and 1970s in partnership with architects from Sao Paulo such as Fabio Penteado, Lauro Costa Lima and Vilanova Artigas. Starting with the constructive vanguarde, this dissertation discusses the concrete art concept since its creation by Theo van Doesburg in 1930, its branching in 1936 by Max Bill, its beginning in Brazil during the 1950s and Antonio Malufs concept through some of his most expressive work. The research identifies the relationship between concrete art and industrial design, both with the ideal of creating a visual language to the new modern society, where art would influence all aspects of the daily life by pure forms reproduced by industrial production. Having in mind that starting from concrete art concepts, Maluf worked as a designer in different areas and sought collaboration with architecture. He establishes a relationship between concrete art and modern architecture, the same way other concrete artists sought a closer relationship among the different types of arts.

Gestão de requisitos subjetivos, estudo de caso do aprimoramento do interior do Legacy 500 / Management of subjective requirements, case study of interior enhancement of the Legacy 500Alessandra Frediani Dias de Castro 09 October 2018 (has links)
Several subjective aspects influence the customer when purchasing a product. Aesthetics, perceived quality and comfort are some of them, if the product does not meet customer expectations related to this, it runs the risk of becoming a sales failure. The objectives of the product for the subjective aspects are called subjective requirements, they are established in the first stage of the development of a new product (NPD). Treating them as immutable throughout the NPD does not match the current reality of swift changes. The literature is still inexpressive in relation to the management of changes in subjective requirements. This work seeks to show the importance of managing them throughout the entire NPD. The longer the cycle of this process, the greater the chance that requirements need to be revised. This case study from the interior of the Legacy 500 executive jet shows some of the consequences resulting from the lack of a process to manage subjective requirements. The possible impacts, if perceived to be a need for change only during the final evaluation, already on the eve of entering the product on the market, are related to delays both in the project of the product itself and in the products that would be developed in sequence with the same body of engineers, designers and industrial designers and the considerable increase of costs. The results of this research point to internal and external factors that may affect the subjective requirements and their management. Internal factors are related to the strategy and positioning of the brand, the management process, the organizational structure and the competence of the decision maker (s) in product design, as well as a deep knowledge of the market and of who is the potential customer, that is need from both the strategic decision maker and the operational team. The external ones are related to changes in the market, new products, new technologies and new wishes / needs of the clients. Different systems may or may not be influenced from these factors in different ways in the case of a complex product. Attention is also given to the decision-making process related to subjective requirements, collaborating with the theory and practice of this management, suggesting a model that makes clear the importance of the analysis vehicle used and the characteristics of the decision maker. The subjective nature of many aspects of product design seem to lead to an intuitive decision, directly related to the formal and professional experience of the decision maker (s). The representativeness of the vehicle of analysis used in the evaluation of subjective requirements must be the greatest possible in all its aspects, since the human being uses all of his senses to form the perception he has about the product. The prototype or other analysis vehicle must be complete. The evaluation of separate parts does not generate the same perception as the complete set. Finishing materials, volumetry, resistance and rigidity of mechanisms and components, interfaces, functionalities, temperature, lighting, noise, music and other sounds are some of the examples that interfere in the formation of the correct perception about the product. A product that is not attractive to the customer, is not profitable for the company. Therefore, managing subjective requirements is vital to the business health

This thesis aims to analyze the contradictory nature of creative activity as applied to human material production, or what is known as Industrial Design. Having emerged from the social division of labor, which separated and hierarchized the processes of conception/management and execution, Design has been paralleling the changes in the current mode of production, particularly that known as productive restructuring. At certain points in the history of Design - a history linked to capitalist industrial production - there appeared some "emancipatory fissures" which ultimately could not break the contradictory logic of the commodity, nor the technocratic-managerial rigidity of the capitalist organization of production/circulation. Therefore, contrary to what some theoretical conceptions suggest, Design has not always been an instrument of capital reproduction, as the historical experiences reported in this study show. However, a total disregard for these issues was also noted in Design theory in the form of a neglect of any points of contact between project and socialism/communism. The hypothesis is that these contradictions rest on the structural link between Design and the commodity form, expressing the contradictions between use value and (exchange) value in the processes of production and reproduction of capital. In addition, the analysis shows that Design is becoming a predominantly managerial activity. Insofar as it expresses aspects of the capitalist social relations of production, Design theory, the object of this study, is confronted with the critique of Marx¿s political economy and João Bernardo¿s "theory of managers". Issues addressed include historical aspects of Design from the stance of social conflicts; the relations between production, circulation, consumption and human needs; and the problem of commodity fetishism. In the relationship between Design and abstract work, the activity of conception appears in the form of estranged creativity when put exclusively to the service of capital accumulation. Analysis of the "managerial turn" in Design shows that the area is increasingly becoming more of a mere "strategic" instrument of capitalist competition and class domination, engendering a series of "new fetishisms". This thesis ends with a reflection on the historical possibilities for the field of Project in a possible transition into communism. It is hoped that this work will contribute to the development of a critical theory of Design / Doutorado / Sociologia / Doutor em Sociologia

Manufacturing as a reference for rethinking construction design managementSidloyi, Xabiso January 2008 (has links)
Design changes due to lack of constructability, cost overruns, delays and dissatisfied clients are but a few problems experienced in construction due to poor management of the design processes. Increased problems, challenges, demands and continuous criticism of the architectural profession has led to increased demand for research into the improvement of design processes. The aims of this research were to determine the adequacy of design management processes used by Eastern Cape (EC) architectural companies and compare these with the design management processes used in manufacturing in order to establish practices, theories, principles, technologies and deliverables that can be transferred from the manufacturing into the construction to improve efficiency of architectural design management. The quantitative research approach was implemented for this research, the questionnaire was designed to acquire primary, factual and attitudinal data from EC architectural companies and secondary data were acquired through a literature review. The results revealed that design management processes, continuous improvement philosophies, lean principles, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) used by EC architectural companies are not similar to those used in manufacturing. Therefore EC architectural companies could increase their efficiency by adopting some of the design management processes, ICT, continuous improvement philosophies and lean principles originating from the manufacturing industry.

Relações entre design e gastronomia no cenário contemporâneo /Brito, Bruna Ramires. January 2018 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: Food has become one of the items that make up the lifestyle of contemporary society. The act of feeding involves aspects far beyond nutrition, such as social, cultural, economic and environmental issues. The contemporary scenario is composed of a series of components, such as issues related to innovation, memory, authorship, sustainability, social innovation, interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity. Some of the more essential features of the contemporary design are the relations and interrelationships with other fields of knowledge, such as gastronomy, which involves eating, equipment, utensils, spaces, design and creative processes and aesthetic of the dish. However, despite the amplitude of the theme and media coverage, those relations or interrelationships are little explored regarding concepts and applications. In this sense, this research aims to identify potential intersections between design and gastronomy in the contemporary scenario. From this integration, this study sought to identify benefits for both areas, and, mainly, for the contemporary subject. The applied method consisted of bibliographical and documentary research. The literature review had a theoretical reference about the design, the gastronomy, the consumptive expectations of the contemporary subject, as well as the similar characteristics and the relations between the two disciplines, which make them relevant and influential. The intervention of design in the field of gastronomy takes place for many... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre

Designerly Ways of Teaching: Reflecting on folk pedagogies in design educationJanuary 2020 (has links)
abstract: The profession known as industrial design is undergoing a transformation. Design thinking and strategy are replacing form giving and styling. Critics are calling for curricular reform to meet the changing needs of practice, yet surprisingly little knowledge is available about how and why design teachers do what they do. In an effort to frame the problem of (re)designing design education, this study provides a framework for understanding the pedagogical beliefs and preferences of design students and educators utilizing Bruner’s four folk pedagogies. This study also provides evidence that the practices of industrial design teachers exhibit what Cross (2006) has described as ‘designerly ways of knowing.’ / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Design 2020

Phoenix. : PPE wildfire respirator / Fenix. : PPE skogsbrandsrespiratorJonasson, Simon January 2019 (has links)
Forest fires has become an increasing threat all over the world. Pollution and rising greenhouse gases has led to an ever increase in global temperatures. Sweden has previously been spared from larger fires, but in the past few year it has been been made clear that these climate changes will affect the number and intensity of forest fires. In this project I have investigated how forest fires work and how the process of extinguishing them looks today. With a focus on the personal equipment I have looked into how to improve the working environment and the safety for fire-fighters. Using the design process this problem is tackled from a holistic point of view, looking at both the users and context. The solutions presented in this project is a professional safety product called “Phoenix. PPe Wildfire respirator”. A lightweight portable oxygen harness with an attached emergency mask.

Design of workstation for binding adjustment in ski rental shopsLundin, Felix January 2021 (has links)
This master thesis project was a part of the education Master of science in Industrial Design Engineering at Luleå University of Technology with the mission of developing a work desk that suits in to the client company NoMoreBoots range of ski rental products. The background of the project was that work desks that are used mainly with the purpose of adjusting alpine ski bindings in ski rental shops often are primitive home constructions and other manufacturers work desks with the same purpose do not have enough advantages compared to the self-built ones to be worth the extra costs. With a new kind of tool introduced in the industry that facilitates the adjustments of alpine ski bindings came an opportunity to design the work desk in a new way. The work process has followed the user-centered design framework Double Diamond which consists of the phases: discover, define, develop and deliver. After exploring of the context with interviews and benchmarking, the projects main focus became at the ergonomic conditions and how it could be improved for the staff as it was the need identified that had the most protentional of improvements for the user. Literature studies, different types of idea generating methods and evaluations have been conducted to come up with a result that meet the needs of the users. The project resulted in a CAD model of a compact work desk that has a height adjustment mechanisk to enable the user to work with a good ergonomic position in several different work tasks.
