Information Flow in Reuse Prospects of Construction Materials : Analysis of information flow in the Swedish construction industry

Chandran, Rahul, Joseph, Neha January 2023 (has links)
Efficient management of construction and demolition components is crucial for the sustainability of the environment, society, and economy. Reusing construction materials is an effective way to reduce construction debris. However, reuse is hurdled due to different factors, and one of the leading causes of these factors is improper information flow. The information flow is the transfer of relevant information within the network about construction materials such as quality, quantity and other specifications in the reuse aspect. The seamless flow of relevant information on the construction process and materials is crucial to facilitate reuse. Unfortunately, there are considerable obstacles to achieving a seamless information flow. By identifying and addressing the barriers that hinder the current information flow, we can thrive towards a seamless flow of information that facilitates reuse within the construction industry. This paper examines the challenges in the flow of information within the Swedish construction industry using a qualitative exploratory research design. The research also explores some strategies adopted by a few stakeholders to promote reuse. The study is performed using existing literature and interviews with various stakeholders mainly in the Swedish construction industry. The research identifies several barriers in information flow, including a lack of collaboration among stakeholders, fragmented information, no standardization, business models that do not support reuse, and low awareness of reuse prospects. To gain better insight into the flow of information, a five-component framework has been devised based on these challenges.

Mobile Communication within Healthcare Environment : A Case Study at Danderyds University Hospital

Söderström, Patrik January 2017 (has links)
Organizations within the healthcare industry are under a constant pressure with a continuousgrowth, resulting in a larger number of patients in need of attention and an increased demandfor healthcare services. The pressure put on the different departments at hospitals challengesthe communication channels within the organization. This in turn prevents the employeesfrom driving change efficiently where a perceived lack of information flow and fragilecommunication is the cause. To facilitate a transition, ICT is acting as a fundamental driverfor a transformation, where emerging technologies are changing the workflow inorganizations. It has contributed with mobile applications to work as solutions to enhancecommunication by improving connectivity and facilitating information flow. Therefore, thepurpose of the report was to investigate how a mobile application could help to enhance theinternal communication in the healthcare sector. For the master thesis, the investigation has been realized by conducting a descriptive casestudy at the infectious disease department. Findings were derived from observations, threeinterviews with representatives from the management and a pilot study consisting of thirteenpeople. The process was to observe existing communication channels, obtain a needs analysisfrom the management regarding improvement factors as well as implement and evaluate amobile application as a new communication channel based on their requirements. From the initial observations and interviews it was possible to identify a gap between themanagement’s information distribution and the employees’ information receiving. This wasaddressed by implementing, testing and evaluating a mobile communication channel in orderto make the information more accessible. It was discovered that by dividing employees intosmaller groups with their own specific purpose, it was possible to direct information andprevent information overload. By establishing a mobile communication channel the workflowat the department could be improved with a facilitation of transmitting information as a result.

Preterm Birth: Perspectives on Resource Access and Pregnancy Experience

Urbalonis, Nicole January 2016 (has links)
Pregnancy is affected by multiple factors both within and outside of a woman’s control. For those who experience a preterm pregnancy, considerations about their experiences can be revelatory and meaningful in understanding concepts such as information sharing, support systems, and care models. This research uses qualitative description to further enhance our knowledge about women’s preterm birth experiences within the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant (HNHB) Local Health Integration Network (LHIN). Participant interviews (n=13), key informant interviews (n=2), and participant observations were conducted. Findings exposed 6 themes: 1) prenatal preparedness; 2) working while pregnant; 3) delivery expectations; 4) place and space; 5) supports and resource attainment; and 6) attitudes and knowledge. Collectively, the themes point to the need for improvements in service delivery and knowledge acquisition, and also suggest a new paradigm of employment involvement in pregnancy as well as reaffirmed or rebranded client-provider expectations during pregnancy. / Thesis / Master of Arts (MA)

Communication Flow, Information Exchange and Their Impact on Human Rights Violations

Bonn, Georg 05 1900 (has links)
Although international human rights declarations exist, violations of human rights are still sad but also common facts around the world. But for repressive regimes, it becomes more and more difficult to hide committed human rights violations, since society entered the "Information Revolution." This study argues that the volume of international information exchanged influences a country's human rights record. A pooled cross sectional time series regression model with a lagged endogenous variable and a standard robust error technique is used to test several hypotheses. The findings of this study indicate that the flow of information can be related to a country's human rights index. The study also suggests that more empirical work on this topic will be necessary.
