No. of bitstreams: 1 Leandro Lopes Peguini.pdf: 871714 bytes, checksum: 0b8e7fc7aa5a5115b124c481e851b8c7 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-02-01 / Strategic alliances have been currently studied by many researchers for allowing partners to exchange knowledge and access to complementary assets. The main objective of this research was to understand the perception of managers on the deliberate variations and their relation to the strategic alliance coordination routines in the Brazilian industry, human health segment. The methodology involved studies of cases of contractual strategic alliances from three pharmaceutical organizations, two of them being large laboratories, and one biotechnology microenterprise, all from the city of Ribeirão Preto, state of São Paulo Brazil. The data was individually analyzed and then cross-analyzed, generating non-definitive propositions about the relation between deliberate variations and activities of interorganizational management of contractual strategic alliances routines. It was concluded that the tactics for generating deliberate variations are used in the interorganizational management aimed to reduce the uncertainty of the alliance transactions, fulfillment of regulatory requirements, generation of intellectual capital through learning, motivation of the participants, and viability of alliances. The main tactics of deliberate variations used in the interorganizational management are: formal programs of experimentation, indirect motivations and tolerance by the manager to variations without focus and play. The theoretical contribution of this research is the explicitation of the tactics of deliberate variations used in interorganizational management of contractual strategic alliance. The contribution to the administrative practice is to show that interorganizational management of alliances occurs dynamically, involving several motivational and controlling tactics, and that executives responsible for their management must expect that the execution of such tactics occurs preemptively and not linearly, from motivations along the alliance that demand actions and monitoring.

Silva, Matheus Roquette Ferrato da 27 September 2013 (has links)
The health issue is a central problem and gain prominence in the unprecedent wave of 2013 protests around the country. This is caused by deficiencies in the Public Health Care System, used by about 80% of all Brazilians, and by the regulation for private solutions. However, there are initiatives, called social enterprises, which use market tools for people to have access to medicines, medical and dental care. These actions seek good financial results and provide high-quality care to the poor population. The goals are not easily achieved mainly by careful measurement and generation of social value. This study aims to identify how social businesses in healthcare deal with the metrics especially in related to social impact. Four social businesses and two social support organizations representatives were interviewed to understand how these issues were addressed and what the main barriers were. It was noted that little has been done on the impact analysis, since the focus of the companies is facing the financial sustainability. Through research, the interaction with the ecosystem performers is clearly important, contributing to overcoming barriers and difficulties in managing metrics and thus might improve the indicator evaluation. According to the pace of management indicators and the recent formation of this ecosystem it is still too early to say what could be the consequences of the lack of attention to these metrics, also about how to turn them into effective tools for strategic decisions. This topic should be better explored in future research.

The study of collaborative practices of knowledge creation in collaborative projects of research and development is particularly relevant when considering intensive- knowledge industry projects such as the semiconductor in the case of the project of the FD-SOI 28nm transistor, developed in the microelectronics cluster in Grenoble, France. The evidence demonstrated in the literature on the characteristics of knowledge creation do not attack the practices experienced by actors that facilitate this process. Thus, the dynamics of collaborative practices cannot be sufficiently explained by the existing theoretical perspectives, being a black box for the study of inter-organizational relationships. In this work, we sought to understand how the dynamics of collaborative practices of knowledge creation in collaborative projects of R&D occur, from the meaning that project participants attach to their experiences. In this research, we developed a substantive contribution to explain the dynamics of collaborative practices of knowledge creation, which aims at contributing to increase the relational view, as well as the knowledge creation theory by using methodological procedures of grounded theory as well as narrative and temporal maps, in a single case study, taking a procedural approach of qualitative and analitycal nature. To make this possible, we recovered the history of the development of a collaborative project which begins in basic research and extends to the experimental product development. In this study, the story of the collaborative project developed over the last 15 years (1999-2014) was described, according to actors who collaborated in the creation of the FD-SOI 28nm transistor. So, from the data analysis, it was possible to provide a pragmatic description of the contextual conditions responsible for the emergence of a set of collaborative practices used in the project. This procedural description, plus the identification of collaborative practices for knowledge creation, allowed the understanding of the dynamics of collaborative practices in joint R&D projects, which is the greatest originality of this study. Among the main findings of the research, it’s the understanding that the various collaborative practices tend to aggregate different types of knowledge to the project, thus ensuring a dynamic synthesis between tacit and explicit knowledge. It was also recognized that the type of collaborative practice adopted in a joint R&D project varies according to the stock of knowledge required to make the concept real, and according to the knowledge creation strategy, adopted at each stage of the collaborative R&D project. This study allowed us to confirm the thesis that the collaborative practices of knowledge creation in joint R&D projects in the semiconductor industry are fundamental to the creation of inter-organizational knowledge. We hope that the findings of this study will increase awareness of the management of collaborative projects of R&D in the semiconductor industry, and it is expected that these results will generate government and social reflections and new academic contributions on creating inter-organizational knowledge.

The Brazilian segment of metering electricity is inserted in a context of increased competition due to a transition process of technology, which consequently brought the entry of new companies providing metering solutions. Given this, Elster-BR, one of the traditional suppliers of the segment, is using strategic alliances to remain competitive, but without using a clear defined process for selecting partners. This dissertation aims to propose a process composed of instruments and procedures to select companies for strategic alliances, appropriated to the context of Elster-BR. Therefore, the method called design research was adopted. This method consists of five steps (problem awareness, suggestion, development, evaluation and conclusion) which allow the construction and evaluation of a process. The first stage of the design research, awareness problem, is the identification of the need for a process to select partners. The literature review consisted of the second stage. In this step, references were identified to the construction of instruments and procedures to put the process in practice. The third step, development, referred to the construction process adapted to the reality of Elster-BR. The fourth step focused, primarily, on the validation of processes with company executives. The fifth and last step refers to the presentation of the consolidated process, the result of this dissertation. The process of partners selection consists on instruments (questionnaire, scoring system and graphics) and a procedure for operation (stages and flow). The developed process is designed to ensure an objective and systematic process for the company executives to select companies for alliances, as well as giving subsidies during alliance configuration with the selected partner. The process aims to contribute to the existing literature, as well as the company's management, object of study.

Incest : a study in networking in Multnomah County, Oregon

McClarty, Joanne 01 January 1984 (has links)
Reported cases of incest in Multnomah County, Oregon, as in the rest of the country, are increasing yearly. Effective networking between agencies is important in order to successfully work with the problem. The research problem of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the present network of agencies working with incest in Multnomah County. In order to evaluate network effectiveness the following objectives were established: to provide a "cultural" description of the major components of the Multnomah County network; to determine whether a common definition of incest among practitioners exists and to compare the networking system in this county with others throughout the country.

Sport Sponsorship : Managing the relationship between a sponsor and a sponsee

Lilja, Veronica, Isacsson, Karin January 2017 (has links)
Sports sponsorship accounts for the majority of global sponsorship revenue and is a mutually beneficial business relationship between two parties -the sponsor and the sponsee. The most successful sports sponsorships are based on a good relationship between the sports entity and its sponsor, however, the relationship between the sponsor and the sponsee is difficult to understand due to the lack oftheoretical and managerial implications of the area. Thus, the purpose of this thesis is to provide a better understanding of how sport entities and their existing sponsors manage their interorganizational relationship. In order to reach the stated purpose, research questions are derived focusing on the exchange and the maintenance of the sport sponsor relationship. Based on the research questions, an extensive literature review is conducted landing in a proposed conceptual framework. A qualitative case study approach is used to collect data through semi-structured interviews with two national and two international professional sports organizations. The result of the study shows how the existing relationship between sports organizations and their sponsors is managed. The most valued aspect in a sport sponsorship relationship is to develop a long-term partnership and that the parties involved are committed to the relationship and work actively to make it mutually beneficial. The sponsors are for the most partincluded in the activities of the sport entity, which posits high-quality communication as an essential tool in maintaining a successful relationship. In order to maximize the value generated from the offered benefits, the partners must be willing to utilize the full potential in participating in the sport entity’s various activities.

Information sharing in a nonprofit network

Stoll, Jennifer 08 August 2012 (has links)
The civil rights and other social justice movements, such as the fight against child sex trafficking are examples of an informal context where information and communications technologies (ICTs) have been actively applied in hopes of furthering social justice causes. But while we see that informally organized, grassroots groups have shown considerable interest in ICTs, the actual effectiveness of ICTs for these groups remains largely unknown. This is particularly so when combining both the complexity of the technology landscape and large grassroots interorganizational networks. Given the enormous challenge of social justice issues, there are pressing needs that go beyond connecting more just individuals to help nonprofits. A central need of nonprofit social justice organizations is the connection and coordination of many different groups into interorganizational networks (or groups of groups). In my research, I conducted an in-depth qualitative study of such a network engaged in fighting child sex trafficking. In doing so, I have identified some of the challenges of information sharing and coordination in this context. I gained insight into their information sharing needs and practices for connecting within an interorganizational network. I also conducted a design exploration by building a technology intervention to understand how ICTs can better accommodate the interorganizational needs of information sharing for connecting. My research findings point towards an initial framework in understanding information sharing technologies for informal interorganizational networks.

Moving Patients across Organizations: Exploring the Antecedents of Effective and Efficient Referral Processes

Saryeddine, Tina 31 August 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to explore what makes the interorganizational referral process effective and efficient from the perspectives of acute care referral senders and post acute care referral receivers. The referral process was conceptualized as the classic communication model involving a sender, receiver, information, a communication channel and contextual factors such as formalization and relationships. The hypotheses proposed that the relationships between each of the variables information usefulness, communication channel richness, and degree of formalization affected each of perceived referral process effectiveness and efficiency through the variable ‘relational coordination’. Key informants who either sent referrals from acute care settings or who received them in post acute care inpatient settings were asked to discuss each variable. These results were combined with those of a literature review to develop questionnaires containing a scale with acceptable Chronbach alpha for each. Surveys were disseminated through networks and associations involved in acute and post acute stroke and hip fracture care and in discharge planning and Long Term Care. Useable responses included 114 surveys from referral senders and 171 from referral recipients. Baron and Kenny’s four step test for mediation was used to test the hypotheses. For senders, each of channel richness (adjR2 = 10% p= 0.001), information usefulness (adjR2 = 16% p= 0.000), and formalization (adjR2 = 10% p= 0.000) were significantly related to perceived effectiveness. For channel richness, the relationship with perceived effectiveness was partially mediated by relational coordination (adjR2 = 19% p= 0.001). This was also the case for the relationship between information usefulness and perceived effectiveness (adjR2 = 0.20; p=000). For receivers, channel richness is related to perceived effectiveness through relational coordination (adjR2 = 12% p= 0.003). This was also the case for information usefulness (adjR2 = 13% p= 0.000). In neither group were any of the variables significantly related to efficiency. We may conclude that in the referral process, channel richness and information usefulness are related to perceived effectiveness for both senders and receivers. These may provide an important return on investment if chosen as an areas for referral process improvement, if accompanied by concurrent investments in relational coordination.
