Experimental Study on Jet Electrochemical Machining of Intersecting Single Grooves

Yahyavi Zanjani, Matin, Hackert‐Oschätzchen, Mattias, Martin, André, Schubert, Andreas 05 February 2018 (has links) (PDF)
Due to unique advantages of Jet Electrochemical Machining (Jet‐ECM) such as the absence of mechanical and thermal effects, there is an increasing demand for the implementation of the technology in industrial sectors. However, meeting the stringent quality requirements of the current technological level is a challenge in Jet‐ECM especially for complicated microstructures. Hence, the implementation of an adequate metrology system is necessary to minimise deviations and to enhance the process towards zero‐defect‐manufacturing. The metrology system should be capable of measuring the workpiece before machining in order to enable the machine to adjust the process parameters and to reach the desired micro‐structure. Post‐machining measurements to compare the machined part with the desired shape should be possible as well. This will enhance the machine to make corrections on the workpiece before delivery to the next section in a process chain. However, in order to reach the desired microstructures, the characteristics of workpiece like material properties and previously machined structures on the size and shape of the machined microstructure should be taken into consideration. This is done through the implementation of results of the fingerprint study into the process control. In this study the effects of previously machined single grooves which intersect the secondly machined groove on the size, shape and surface roughness are investigated. The previously machined groove was generated by milling or Jet‐ECM. Since at the intersections the gap size changes and this lead to changes in current and current density, it is expected to observe changes in size and surface roughness. This investigation will show how grooves change at the intersections and whether the mentioned changes are significant. Besides, some suggestions will be provided in order to minimise the effects in Jet‐ECM of intersecting single grooves.

The Influence of Intersecting Identities on Chronic Stress in College Students

Meyer, Heather E 01 January 2021 (has links)
This study explores the influence of chronic stress in college students. It focuses on the broader chronic stressors that college students experience related to physical and mental health, financial health and wellbeing, and presence of social supports, then addresses the more specific chronic stressors related to intersecting identities of race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation. This phenomenon is analyzed under the theoretical frameworks of social determinants of health, intersectionality, and systems theory. An online survey with both open and closed-ended questions was conducted with undergraduate social work students from the Bachelors of Social Work program at the University of Central Florida. The results of the study found that there was links between intersecting identities of participants with higher levels of chronic stress based on their chronic stress scores and participant responses on the influence of their identities on barriers to their physical, mental, and financial health.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Odemio Antonio Ferrari.pdf: 5486827 bytes, checksum: d78eec97c86b94d98a792cd00a67397b (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-06-28 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The objectives of this study start with the verification that in the Guarita Indiginous Land (TIG) there was established a solid insertion of pentecostalism with the predominance of the Assembly of God Evangelical Church for more than five decades. Being two different and similar collective wholes in the socio-cultural charactaristics, the question arises about which symbolic elements, message, and the format of religious performance that made the evangelical Pentecostalism be chosen by the Kaingang society. Forming a full network of Pentecostal churches, joining the villages, having permanent religious services lead by a pentecostalist indigenous hierarchy, showing a strong participation of Kaingang in the dynamic of evangelism based on the Pentecostal tripod: pietistic doctrine, puritan-sectarian morality and emotional ritual. Thus, the Lutheran and Catholic Churches encounter little receptivity in TIG. The factors and strategies of the interconnection between the Kaingang and the Pentecostalism with the assembly predominance in TIG, aiming to sniff out the consequences to the indigenous society. Also, researching the anthropological elements that form the relegation of beliefs and myths, the religious and ecclesial values of Pentecostal evangelization, the social-cultural profiles of the traditions in the two collective wholes, in mutual relation. In this process of religious-cultural intersection it is not possible to come to a conclusion about an effective conversion of the beliefs and Kaingang traditions. But, there occurs a relationship of mutual acceptance and grouping in the believer, through a re-alligning of the religious-cultural values, producing a energy of meaning to the Kaingang society broken by a history of crises with a distinct people, in contact with a developing society Therefore, an anthropological approach in the research is based on the studies about the Kaingang in other indigenous lands and continuous looking at the presence of evangelical pentecostolism in the reality of TIG. I have established as a supposition of the research: the evangelical proselitism with the predominance of the Assembly of God Evangelical Church, followed by the God is Love Pentecostal Church, was able to have a strong receptivity in the Indigenous Land of Guarati, due to its strategy that established bridges of interconnection, in making a connection with the imaginary and the indigenous religious-cultural values, interacting in the Kaingang social organization. A mutual and differentiated receptivity between Pentecostalism andthe Kaingang resulting in a process of appropriationand re-signification of a religious Kaingang, provocative of change in the beliefs, values andindigenous conducts, aggravating the tradition and the hierarchical culture in the village and, in relation to anevolving society, in the religious and civil ambit / Os objetivos deste estudo partem da constatação de que na Terra Indígena Guarita (TIG), há mais de cinco décadas foi estabelecida uma sólida inserção do pentecostalismo com predomínio da Igreja Evangélica Assembléia de Deus.

Sequestering of Kähler moduli in type IIB string theory

Witkowski, Lukas Thomas January 2013 (has links)
In this thesis we employ string perturbation theory in toroidal orbifold models to study aspects of supersymmetry breaking in type IIB string theory. First, we determine the dependence of physical Yukawa couplings on blow-up moduli in models with D3-branes at orbifold singularities. Blow-up moduli are scalar fields describing the size of small blow-up cycles in the compactification geometry. In models implementing moduli stabilisation these fields can acquire F-terms and break supersymmetry. We examine the moduli-dependence of physical Yukawa couplings at string tree-level by computing disk correlation functions involving a Yukawa interaction of visible sector fields and an arbitrary number of blow-up moduli. We perform the calculation for one blow-up insertion explicitly and find that the correlation function vanishes if the blow-up modulus is associated with a small cycle distant to the visible sector. For more than one blow-up insertion we show that all such correlation functions are exponentially suppressed by the compactification volume. We explain how these results are relevant to suppressing soft terms to scales parametrically below the gravitino mass. Further, we determine corrections to holomorphic Yukawa couplings on D3-branes at an orbifold singularity due to non-perturbative effects such as gaugino condensation on a stack of D7-branes. This can be done by calculating a one-loop threshold correction to the gauge coupling on the D7-branes. We show that, if present, the new contributions to Yukawa couplings are not aligned with the tree-level couplings. As the new Yukawa couplings contribute to soft A-terms they are sources of flavour-changing neutral currents. Last we discuss an effect unrelated to supersymmetry breaking. We show that orbifold models with D3-branes at orbifold singularities can exhibit kinetic mixing of different massless Abelian factors. For this to be possible, the relevant U(1) factors have to be associated with more than one orbifold singularity.

Interpreting the taking vs. creating power dichotomy : A case study of the Argentinean labour movement CTA and the Constituyente Social

Gonzalez, Carolina January 2009 (has links)
<p>This is a case study of the alternative labour union organization <em>Central de Trabajadores de la Argentina </em>(CTA) in Argentina and the most recent project under process striving for system change, named the Constituyente Social. The case under study is used to illustrate the perception of power in relation to aspirations for societal change among the left in Latin America. The overall struggle of the CTA and the Constituyente Social is to create a more just society based on a deepening of democracy, more participatory in character. Two understandings of power are presented, on the one hand is the <em>taking</em> power concept, inherited from the political struggles where the belief is that power needs to be <em>taken</em> from the elite in order to succeed with structural change in society. On the other hand is the <em>creating </em>power perception, best exemplified with the Zapatista movement in Mexico. There is no conquering of power in this view, but a creation and strengthening of power among the masses. The theoretical chapter presents a view that unites these two perceptions, arguing for the need to intersect the vertical (power taking) and the horizontal (power creating) struggles. The Constituyente Social is analyzed in relation to this intersection, providing concrete examples of where the two power perceptions are utilized, sometimes simultaneously. The overall conclusion is that the dichotomization usually done between the two understandings of power is incomplete and may even damage the struggle for societal change.</p>

Self-organized traffic flows: a sequential conflict resolution approach

Hand, Troy S. 20 September 2013 (has links)
This thesis discusses the effect of sequential conflict resolution maneuvers of a continuous flow of agents through a finite control volume. Video analysis of real world traffic flows that exhibit self-organized capabilities is conducted to extract characteristics of those agents. A tool is created which stabilizes the input video and extracts motion from it using the background subtraction method. I discuss the tool in detail as I created it to be user friendly and easily modifiable for other uses. The aim of the video analysis I conduct is to determine characteristics of agents in self-organized traffic flow. Comparisons are made with agents under sequential conflict resolution schemes and those that exhibit these self-organized capabilities to determine if agents under sequential control can approach the behaviors of those in self-organized environment. Flow geometries are studied and generalized with the goal of determining stability characteristics of arbitrary flow geometries. Stability analysis includes analytical proof of bounds on the conflict resolution maneuvers.
