Subject: The Teacher Training Programme, Degree Project in Educational Sciences

Södertörn University College

Autumn Term, 2006

This study titled, Those who feel worst, need help to feel better, is a Degree Project in Educational Sciences for the Teacher Training Programme at Södertörn University College. The purpose of this study is to find out how school introduction for newly arrived refugee children is organized in two schools, considering the fact that many refugee children can suffer from PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The study is qualitative, based on interviews with principals, teachers and students in one junior high school and one high school. The study also reviews literature and research on how to work with children who suffer from PTSD. The results show that lack of national policy for the school introduction and education of refugee children, leads to the fact that school introduction can vary from school to school. The lack of co-operation between the different units around the refugee child makes the school introduction much more difficult than it needs to be. But this is also a matter of resources, and how they are divided. Thus, many of the children in this study seemed to be happy with their time in the preparatory class. The results also show that problems occurred when the children started in their new class, where they had difficulties in catching up with their new classmates.

Ett gott bemötande : Nyanställd vårdpersonals upplevelse av bemötandet vid arbetsintroduktionen / The good hospitality : Newly employed healthcare professionals experience of hospitality in the work introduction

Kittelfors, Stina, Hokkinen Vallin, Sari, Wallmon, Sara January 2013 (has links)
Being a new employee is not always associated with happiness, a good self-esteem and security, much of this depends on to be treated in a friendly and reassuring manner. After interviewing newly recruited health professionals in municipal organizations have been shown to be even more clear. Difficulties in providing good treatment can be prevented by ensuring that other staff know what the organization expects to give a new employee during work introduction and thus create security for those to be introduced, but also for the existing staff. The aim of the study is to examine how the newly imployed healthcare professionals have experienced that they have been treated during their employment introductions and how this response may have come to affect their self-esteem for continued employment. Based on Martin Buber's dialogue pedagogy, Erving Goffmans theory of interaction rituals and George Herbert Mead's theory of symbolic interactionism, the result of the purpose of the study were analyzed. The study is a qualitative method with interviews of semi-structured nature. We have taken a phenomenological approach where the focus is on understanding the respondents' life-world.Study results show, with a few exceptions, there is often lack of good hospitality and this will hurt the self-esteem and as well as the desire to want to commit continue working in the organization in general.

Research on KMS Evaluation-Based on Agenda Building Theory

Chang, Po-hsun 29 June 2004 (has links)
In 21st century, how to properly introduce new knowledge management system¡]KMS¡^is the key criteria for organizations to enhance their competitive edge. How a KMS can be introduced into organizations is because, fist of all, this issue be noticed by the strategic management level, and recognize its importance, and get it into the agenda. However, a corporation is itself a market full of idea and proposal inside. Managers try hard to promote their proposal to executives and CEO and its why there are always countless ideas around the CEO. Thus, it is urgent for us to research on how an issue be noticed by executives and enter into agenda to understand what variables really affect the agenda building process. In this area, the related researches are¡G¡]1¡^Agenda Building Theory and Issue Selling, which focuses on describing the main affecting dimension that are important, ¡]2¡^Issue Identification, which focuses on describing how issues be labeled with OPPORTUNITY or THREAT label, ¡]3¡^Champion Theory, which focuses on issue the role of the sponsors and their behaviors. Previous researches on new information technology introduction were focused on how to successfully introduce it and its efficacy evaluation. Topics on preceding phase, that is ¡©why an enterprise recognizes a new information technology¡ª, are quite rare. In validating our research model, our data supports that the importance and opportunity of issue salience, and the involvement as well as assertive attitude of champion have impacted on the agenda of organizations. The result will be useful to both the academic and business.

Americans on Paper: Identity and Identification in the American Revolution

Huffman, John Michael 18 October 2013 (has links)
The American Revolution brought with it a crisis of identification. The political divisions that fragmented American society did not distinguish adherents of the two sides in any outward way. Yet the new American governments had to identify their citizens; potential citizens themselves had to choose and prove their identities; and both sides of the war had to distinguish friend from foe. Subordinated groups who were notionally excluded from but deeply affected by the Revolutionary contest found in the same crisis new opportunity to seize control over their own identities. Those who claimed mastership over these groups struggled to maintain control amid civil war and revolution. / History
