Eduard Goldstücker (1913 - 2000). Významný pražský germanista, publicista a politik. / Eduard Goldstücker (1913 - 2000). Significant Prague germanist, journalist and politician.

Kříž, Jiří January 2016 (has links)
This master's thesis introduces the essential biographical sources for the research of the great personality of European German studies, journalism and politics, Prof. Eduard Goldstücker (1913- 2000): Prozesse: Erfahrungen eines Mitteleuropäers (1989), Vzpomínky 1913-1945 (2003), Vzpomínky 1945-1968 (2005) and Von der Stunde der Hoffnung zur Stunde des Nichts: Gespräche (2009). As the coordinate axis for understanding of the development and extensive areas of operation of this unique type of germanist serve the massive social and historical transformations in the 20th century Europe: The Great Depression, the World Wars, anti-Semitism, fascism, the Cold War, Stalinism, the Prague Spring and the period after the fall of the Iron Curtain. The focus of this thesis are Goldstücker's professional, editorial and journalistic activities and interconnected efforts in the field of diplomacy, politics and current affairs, which make him a scientific and social personality of exceptional importance.

Loď jako prostor střetávání života a smrti: nautická metaforika v literární moderně / The ship as a point of encounter between life and death: nautical metaphor in modern literature

Ondroušková, Světlana January 2014 (has links)
6 Abstract The diploma thesis concerns the topic of nautical metaphorics in modern literature in a broad sense of the term as defined by Silvio Vietta. Thus besides the topic itself and its main focus on the work of Franz Kafka it also covers the process of evolution of its attributes, which led to the specific imagery of modernism on the brink of the 20th century. The work as a whole derives from the conception of the nautical space as a smooth space of nomadism as proposed by Deleuze and Guattari. The first part is based on the propositions of Bachelard's theory of material imagination. It deals with the characteristics of the literary space shaped by the sea element and the possibility of alogorical reading of such images. The hydraulics of the sea provides the nautical space with its unique qualities: shapelessness, flexibility and ambivalence. These enable to percieve the nautical space not only as the space of happenings, but also as the happenings of the space. Thus it puts emphasis on the activity and dynamic plasticity of the substance. The second part reveals the ancient and Christian roots of nautical imagery and its tradition in the European literature. The work of Comenius exemplifies the change in the symbolism of the ship with the arrival of the Age of Exploration which rendered the ship a...

O encenador teatral como leitor forte de Harold Bloom

According to this theory of poetry, every reading is a misreading , an interpretation that departs from the text's meaning. Those who are strong readers can create their own meanings in the texts they read. In this view the procedure should be a twist of the literary text. The director must create their own meanings in the staging and free himself from the purely literary aspect of the work. To prove this, was given to three young directors a tale to be staged. The text of Franz Kafka "Those who pass us by running" requires creative force from the reader who should swerve it to be able to bring it on stage. The distance between the different scenes shows how the personal interpretation influences the scenic realization and, despite they are autonomous art forms, there is a threshold between them.

Sundell, Johan January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis has been to explore in what ways Franz Kafka’s ”The Metamorphosis” can be read as a story of gender. By bringing together Judith Butler’s theory of materialization and Lennard J. Davis’s crip theory I have spoken of Dismodernity as the domain of abject bodies that have been repudiated by (post)modern societies as untintelligible and dysfunctional. From this vantage point ”The Metamorphosis” can be seen as an allegory of Dismodernity and the protagonist, Gregor Samsa, can be seen as a political figure of Dismodernity. Therefore, I have tried to draw a feminist insect politics out of his metamorphosis from (hu)man into insect. By doing a close reading, through the theoretical lenses of Judith Butler, Lennard J. Davis and Donna Haraway, Gregor Samsa can be read as an abject non-masculinity which is both produced and made impossible by a heterosexual matrix’s need of intelligible genders and a capitalist system’s need of functional workers. As an abject non-masculinity Gregor Samsa works as a queer (unintelligible) and dismodern (dysfunctional) trickster that both disturbs and makes visible the established gendered norms of (un)intelligibility and (dis)ability through a blurring of the boundaries between human/animal, public/private and masculinity/femininity. As an involuntary trickster he also challenges gender studies and its seeking for ultimate representations for oppositional consciousness pure in their radical potential.

This study approaches Franz Kafka's literature to psychoanalytic theory of psychosis. The Kafkaesque literary narrative is characterized by the influence of expressionism and the presence of grotesque and absurd elements, manifested in realistic way the absurd is described. Nevertheless, the "Kafkaesque" adjective is used to designate a strange situation. Since the Kafkaesque narrative is characterized by the link between realism and absurdity, could we approach it from the operating logic of psychotic structures? The body metamorphosis of Gregor Samsa, the protagonist of The Metamorphosis (1912/2000), approaches the body phenomena observed in schizophrenia? The arrest and the process of Josef K., the protagonist of The Trial (1914/2000), can be seen as delusions of paranoid persecution? To answer these questions, uses the psychoanalytic approach, based on the theoretical propositions initially established by S. Freud, subsequently enhanced by J. Lacan. Discusses the Kafkaesque literature in a sample of his work: The Metamorphosis (1912/2002) and The Trial (1914/2002). Initially, discusses the relationship between psychoanalysis and literature in significant instance of the word. Then addresses the life and work of Franz Kafka, as well as the main elements that characterize his narrative. Identifies the historical transformation of the concept and operation mechanism of psychosis in Freud and Lacan. It features elements of Kafkaesque plot related to the proximity between the Kafkaesque grotesque and the phenomena observed in psychosis, particularly in schizophrenia and paranoia. Discusses the similarity between Gregor Samsa's metamorphosis and body phenomena observed in schizophrenia. Discusses the arrest and the process of Josef K. in conjunction with delusions of persecution seen in paranoia. Finally, it concludes that the Kafkaesque grotesque approaches psychosis under the aegis of interpenetration between the real and the absurd.

Corporeal canvas: art, protest, and power in contemporary Russia

Ehle, Kate 02 January 2018 (has links)
This thesis examines the recent emergence of corporeal protest art in Russia. Through analyses of cultural, social, and economic shifts in the post-Soviet Era, I observe how this corporeal turn reflects a significant cultural transition away from the literary text, which has traditionally held a role of major importance in Russian culture. Detailed analysis of the contemporary performances of Pussy Riot and Petr Pavlensky are conducted in order to elucidate the social and political causes and implications of such a shift. Manifestation of oppositional discourse on the site of the human body is understood theoretically through Giorgio Agamben’s biopolitics, Mikhail Bakhtin’s grotesque body, and Inke Arns’ and Sylvia Sasse’s theory of subversive affirmation. Interestingly, this artistic divergence has coincided with the rise of relative economic and social wellbeing in Russia – conditions that tend to foster the development of a burgeoning public sphere, now standing at odds with an increase in political repression. Oppositionists and protest artists are, therefore, exploring new and unconventional ways of expressing dissent. My study contextualizes these new methods of expression within the larger tradition of the cultural expression of political will, examining the ways in which these works are readable through Russian cultural norms and to whom they speak. / Graduate

A COMPARISON OF DATA INGESTION PLATFORMS IN REAL-TIME STREAM PROCESSING PIPELINES

Tallberg, Sebastian January 2020 (has links)
In recent years there has been an increasing demand for real-time streaming applications that handle large volumes of data with low latency. Examples of such applications include real-time monitoring and analytics, electronic trading, advertising, fraud detection, and more. In a streaming pipeline the first step is ingesting the incoming data events, after which they can be sent off for processing. Choosing the correct tool that satisfies application requirements is an important technical decision that must be made. This thesis focuses entirely on the data ingestion part by evaluating three different platforms: Apache Kafka, Apache Pulsar and Redis Streams. The platforms are compared both on characteristics and performance. Architectural and design differences reveal that Kafka and Pulsar are more suited for use cases involving long-term persistent storage of events, whereas Redis is a potential solution when only short-term persistence is required. They all provide means for scalability and fault tolerance, ensuring high availability and reliable service. Two metrics, throughput and latency, were used in evaluating performance in a single node cluster. Kafka proves to be the most consistent in throughput but performs the worst in latency. Pulsar manages high throughput with low message sizes but struggles with larger message sizes. Pulsar performs the best in overall average latency across all message sizes tested, followed by Redis. The tests also show Redis being the most inconsistent in terms of throughput potential between different message sizes
