Untersuchungen zur Bestimmung der Körperzusammensetzung wachsender Ziegenlämmer in vivo mit Hilfe der D2O- Verdünnungsmethode

Treitel, Ulla 05 March 2009 (has links)
On young goats (breed Bunte Deutsche Edelziege) with a live weight range of 4 kg up to 20 kg the suitability of the dilution method using the marker deuterated water (D2O) was checked in order to measure the changes of body composition during growth on living animals (in vivo). At a live weight of 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 kg the animals received an intrave¬nous dose of D2O after a fastening time of 13 to 18 hours. Blood samples were taken after a waiting period of 4 to 5 hours. In connection with the last blood sample in each period a part of the animals were slaughtered to determine the total body water content, the digesta mass and the empty body composition by chemical analysis. The determination of the marker concentration in the blood samples and the chemical analysis of the total bodies showed that the dilution method overestimated total body water content by 3,99 %. There is a close linear relationship between the estimated and the chemically determined content of total body water. The estimation of the digesta mass serves for the estimation of the empty body mass. Its variation mainly depends on the live weight. The chemical analysis of the animal bodies revealed that the composition of the fat-free empty body is mainly dependent on the empty body mass. Using allometric equations the components of the fat-free empty body mass were estimated and thus the composition of the empty body could be calculated. The comparison of the chemically determined components with the estimated components of the empty body showed a high agreement concerning the content of water, protein and ash. However estimation of the fat content is less accurate. The reason is the variation of the estimated digesta mass and the digesta water mass. It can be concluded that the dilution technique using deuterated water is a practicable method to determine in vivo the changing body composition of growing kids with a live weight range of 4 kg up to 20 kg.

Neoliberalism in small town Alberta : a look at personhood, gender, race and poverty

Dobek, Allison, University of Lethbridge. Faculty of Arts and Science January 2004 (has links)
An in-school feeding project, Kids In Need or KIN, was introduced in the fall of 2001 to a rural community located between two First Nation's Reserves, in southern Alberta. I analyze the KIN project and its ensuing controversy as the site of struggle over the meaning of parenting. Given the predominance of neoliberalism as a discursive practice, centered on individual responsibility, the controversy generated by the KIN project reflects the central question of how to implement a program devised to assist children living with adults presumably "responsible" for their well-being. Implicitly the debate centered on particular class-based, neoconservative constructions of families, which support a gendered division of labor and were deployed in this community to reengage long standing notions about the parental deficits of Natives. This thesis explores the possible dangers, then, of the KIN project's focus on child poverty, in relation to neoliberal constructions of personhood, gender and race. / vi, 124 leaves ; 29 cm.

Exploring Game Design Pitfalls through patterns : Experiences when making our first game / Undersökning av fallgropar inom speldesign genom design mönster : erfarenheter från första spelprojektet

Hedenskog, Jens January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this report is to analyze what went wrong with the adventure game project called Fairytale, I started together with 4 of my fellow university students at Gotland University, spring 2007. My ambition with this report is to enlighten problems in game design that arose during the game development process in order to prevent others from making the same mistakes. The problems are analyzed according to game design patterns defined by Björk, S. and Holopainen, J. (2005). Patterns in Game Design. Boston, Massachusetts. Jenifer Niles. The game was exhibited to the public at Gotland Game Awards 2007, Leipzig Game Developers Conference 2007, Tekniska Museet 2007, Almedalsveckan 2008 and Gotland Game Awards 2008. The results of the report show that redesigning already finished game features means a lot of troubles in relation to its dependency on other game elements. The key abilities of the main character were vaguely defined since the beginning of the project which caused problems with earlier designed levels whenever a new item was introduced. The terrain of the prior levels didn’t match the abilities of the new items, which forced changes to be made. The biggest mistake with this project was that finished game elements never were considered final. My role in the project was the solo game programmer and co-designer. I shared the designing tasks together with Annika Fogelgren who also was the producer of our team. Albertina Sparrhult, Emma Johansson and Marie Viberg were our core graphic artists. Together, we created the Fairytale game.

Interaktivní knihy pro děti - výzkum informačního chování / Interactive books for children - information behavior research

Adamcová, Klára January 2018 (has links)
The thesis deals with the problematics of interactive books and their influence on the education of preschool children, which is in the Czech Republic still one of the unexplored areas. The aim of the thesis is to compare the paper books with the interactive books in terms of their impact on the child's learning and to see if interactivity influences the better memorization of information than interaction with the kindergarten teacher and also if the children are able to work with the interactive book. There are two hypotheses H1: A child of pre-school age working with an interactive book can remember less information than a child listening to a narrative from a classical book, and H2: A pre-school child who working with an interactive book will remember better the visual rendering of the content. The examined group was composed of preschool children from two differently different kindergartens. For the research, the method of participated target group observation was used when working with interactive books, supplemented by interviews with nursery teachers who participated in the research. The development of the pre-school child's cognitive functions and the development of its interaction with the technologies is briefly described in the theoretical part one. The technologies and their role in the...

Home Share jako alternativa institucionální péče / Home Share as an Alternative of Institucional Care

Vosická, Petra January 2020 (has links)
This work deals with the model of care Home Share in the world, especially in Ireland, and introduces its beginning activity in the Czech Republic for people with autism spectrum disorder. For many years, this target group has not found in the Czech system of social services affordable and suitable services, especially of the residential type, which it would need. Parents of these children are thus exposed to the burden of long-term care without the possibility of relieving them. Home Sharing is a way to complement this social system. The practical part focuses on mixed research, which aims to describe and critically reflect the current situation of Home Share in the Czech Republic. Through interviews, I investigated the beginning, course and possible future of organizations that are currently introducing Home Share for families with a person with autism spectrum disorder. Furthermore, I used interviews and a questionnaire to find out the opinions of experts who are in the field of support for families with autistic people.

Singing Songs of Social Significance: Children's Music and Leftist Pedagogy in 1930s America

Haas, Benjamin D. 12 1900 (has links)
In their shared goal of communicating left-wing principles to children through music, Marc Blitzstein's Worker's Kids of the World (1935), Aaron Copland's The Second Hurricane (1937), and Alex North's The Hither and Thither of Danny Dither (1941) exhibit a fundamental unity of purpose that binds them both to each other and to the extensive leftist pedagogical efforts of their time. By observing the parallel relationship among these three children's works and contemporary youth organizations, summer camps, and children's literature, their cultural objectives and stylistic idiosyncrasies emerge as expressions of a continuously evolving educational tradition. Whereas Worker's Kids comes out of the revolutionary Communist aesthetics of the Composers' Collective and the militant activism of The Young Pioneers, The Second Hurricane and Danny Dither reflect the increasingly accommodating educational efforts of the American Popular Front.

Husen under bron Förskola : Houses Under the Bridge Kindergarden

Li, Rui-Xin January 2014 (has links)
Kindergarden - How can we create different synergies between different fields that they can benefit from each other? What different activities will suit the kindergarden? How will our perception of the kindergarden, of its need and function in society, change? In this Degree Project in Architecture I will be investigating the combination of the kindergarden together with a restaurant and a dance studio. I believe these activities will harmonize since they have overlapping benefits: We all eat, move and grow. With the new architectural activities in mind, I will further investigate the importance of the kindergarden as a part of society, more specifically our perception of what function it may, may not or could fill. I share the idea with a lot of authors, scientist that we are headed toward a society where children are kept too safe, thus minimising their chance to experience and learn to cope with a harsh reality when they grow up as adults. It's ok to get hurt to an extent, as long as they do not endanger their lives.
