Daaboul, Ghena, Malmgren, AnnaMaria January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of our study is to see how the difference between free and controlled play is embodied and affects the children's social relations and their intellectual as well as physical development by examining the resting activities. We chose the qualitative method that we applied through semi-structured interviews and observations. We analyzed the empirical material by using phenomenographic analysis method. Based on our analysis, we came up with a result that showed that free play promotes children's imagination and creativity. Students also learn to be able to include each other and to see and act along the game's frames and signals. The controlled game, on the other hand, promotes the children's intellectual abilities by allowing students to learn about taking turns, rules, norms, how to behave when they want to jump in or out of a game, and developing their social relationships. Our conclusion is that in the break operations there should be a balance around how much free play and controlled play the students have as they learn about different things. We also see the role of adults as extremely important as the educator is the one to create this balance and support the students during the break.
