Therefore, we make a socio-historical survey about that community, and investigate which languages and in what situations they are used by residents of Itapará community. Furthermore, we refer to the attitudes of speakers with regard to Portuguese and Ukrainian languages. We searched, also, factors that took/take to the preservation of the Ukrainian language, especially related to the church. We base our research on the concepts of sociolinguistics, with focus on the phenomenon of language contact, linguistic attitudes and politics linguistics. Near of the bibliography research we collected narrations from ten speakers from the cited community and we analyzed these reports with the proposed topics of cultural and linguistic diversity and politics linguistics. Among other results, we understand that the conservation and practice of Ukrainian language and culture are strongly linked the religious aspects. Even though the practice of Ukrainian language and culture is on a regression time in the community, we noted that these are part of the identity of speakers.

Studies on emerging genres in Portuguese classes as teaching strategies.

Martiny, Franciele Maria 03 March 2011 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2017-07-10T18:56:27Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 FrancieleMartiny.pdf: 1219911 bytes, checksum: 7c04d26910ee38bf5b774439a1ec0c54 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-03-03 / This study aims to present a teaching and learning strategy from a selection of text genres emerging on the Internet, considering the specific language of the medium the Internet slang compared to previous genres of new technologies. This strategy is based on a sequence of classes, the first ones consisting of on-site observation, for third graders (high school) of a state school in Marechal Cândido Rondon. The purpose is to develop and observe, during the teaching internship period and based on the current socio-historical context of new technologies, an educational strategy that considers the language in its various uses. To achieve this goal, the theoretical and conceptual framework of this research comes from Sociolinguistics, for the analysis of linguistic diversity, and from the studies on the concepts and use of text genres in the classroom. These two theoretical bases are complementary and show the variety of the everyday language, highlighting differences and similarities between the texts, the intentions, the situation of production and the characteristics of the medium, in sum, the features that demonstrate that language is not univocal and static, but rather dynamic, changeable and socially constructed due to the interaction of its speakers. Under this prerogative, an interpretative study is carried out, based on microethnography, which permits to explore the participant observation in classroom. It is expected that this study may be seen as a teaching and learning practice of what can be done when dealing scientifically with a research object on written texts, regarding the approach of emerging text genres in the classroom, in order to show the students the different contexts of language use and its adequacy to the communicative situations. The corpora for analysis consists of the entire sequence of classes and the students text productions, based both on online environment through e-mail and on an argumentative letter, a genre already studied by the students and that constitutes, in this proposal, a way to observe the students' comprehensions related to the topic Internet and to examine traces of the Internet slang whether they exist or not in the students formal writing. At the conclusion of this study, it is believed that creating an alternative strategy for teaching and learning based on emerging texts in relation to the nonemerging ones may, as a pedagogical practice, help students understand the standard language variety and respect the linguistic diversity.

Patricia Socorro da Costa Cunha 02 March 2012 (has links)
The present study sought to analyze the speech teachers of Portuguese language of the municipality of Bonfim, on the border between Brazil, Guyana to check how these professionals deal with the bilingualism of your students in their teaching practices. This qualitative ethnographic research sought to understand how nature in a region where there is high prevalence of linguistic and cultural diversity permeate the questions concerning linguistic plurality existing there, and know how is ingrained in the discursive practices of the teachers the idea of cultural hegemony, monocultural curriculum and monolinguistico. To answer this question as theoretical and methodological contribution to discourse analysis is the construction of another look on language practices and resizing the object of analysis: the discourse of teachers.Tried to understand the discursive processes on educational practices of these teachers looking to analyze their ideological, social and discursive formation within a context of border. These professionals work in a bilingual reality where most of his students come from Lethem or indigenous communities, these being English speakers or an Indian language Macuxi indigenous, Wapixana and/or in addition to Portuguese. As a result of this study, it was found that in this nvironment, the teacher says not ready to cope with such reality, since there are educational programs in the municipality that endear this linguistic diversity and so little he says it is ready to act in this context as a result of higher institutions prepare it properly to deal with such a situation.

”Helhetsbilden är viktig” : En kvalitativ studie om tre lärares uppfattningar om tillvaratagandet av språklig mångfald bland flerspråkiga elever i årkurs F-3 / ”The overall picture is important” : A qualitative study of three teachers' perceptions of the utilization of linguistic diversity among multilingual students in year F-3

Junhammar, Amanda January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this essay was to increase knowledge about how teachers perceive the utilization of linguistic diversity among multilingual students with an immigrant background, through interviews with three teachers working in schoolyears F-3. The socio-cultural perspective has been chosen as the theoretical basis for the study. Data collection was performed based on a qualitative method, through semi-structured interviews. The collected data was processed with a phenomenographic approach. The six categories that emerged from the analysis were Lack of communication, An overall picture that is important, Increased goal fulfillment through transilingualism, Own responsibility, Opportunities and limitations and Inclusion of different languages. The degree project has shown that all interviewed teachers consider themselves responsible for and initiators of linguistic diversity in the classroom. All teachers have a positive attitude towards students' linguistic diversity and are determined to include different languages. However, it also appears that different challenges affect the possibilities for this. In the teachers' striving to work based on an overall picture, transilingualism is emphasized as something positive. They want to be able to help students use this way of working even more through increased collaboration with mother tongue teachers and study tutors. The study also shows teachers' interest in concept learning and different modalities. Unlike previous research that highlights the benefits of digital modalities, the interviewed teachers prefer modalities in the form of images and gestures for students at an early age.

Pronominal Complex Predicates in Colloquial Persian

Kazeminejad, Ghazaleh 01 January 2014 (has links)
Pronominal complex predicates in colloquial Persian are periphrastic constructions with an idiosyncratic syntactic pattern. They show a peculiar behavior compared to the regular agreement system in Persian, and they are the only construction in Persian which requires the obligatory presence of a pronominal enclitic. This work is an attempt to analyze this construction in order to find its function. For this purpose, a lexical semantic classification of them was proposed, which helped in presenting a new analysis. It was found out that this construction is used to express a particular diathesis in which the topic of the sentence (determined according to Givón’s topicality hierarchy) is an indirect participant. I proposed a hybrid dual-layer agreement system which includes a morphosyntactic and a semantic layer. The pronominal enclitic was analyzed as a phrasal affix and agreement marker by reference to Givón’s (1976) and Anderson’s (2005) arguments. The construction was analyzed to be an instance of the external possessor construction proposed by Haig (2008), which is observed in Iranian languages. The classification of the data clarified the mapping of semantics onto syntax. The proposed analysis could be added to and unified with the current analysis of Persian complex predicates (Bonami and Samvelian, 2009).

A constituição do léxico norte mato-grossense na perspectiva geolinguística: abordagens sócio-semântico-lexicais / The constitution of the northern Mato Grosso lexicon: socio-semantic-lexical approaches

Philippsen, Neusa Ines 05 July 2013 (has links)
This thesis, which is based both on the contemporary Geo-linguistic principles and on the variationist socio-linguistics, aims to mull over the Portuguese language spoken in four towns in the North of Mato Grosso (Vera, Santa Carmem, Sinop and Cláudia) and, it presents the transcription cataloguing, records and analyses of lexical variations used by the dwellers of those towns. In order to do so, theoretical-methodological resources have been used, which allowed the documentation of the lexical linguistic diversity of the referred geographical spaces at the present time. Consequently we could describe a snippet of the language effectively used by the community to represent their surrounding world. Among them, the field research which helped us gather the oral corpus. This collection took place in two distinct moments, first the free narratives were gathered involving twenty pioneers from the four towns. Next a 210-item-questionnaire was applied to forty both male and female individuals, divided in 20 migrants all above 50 of age, and 20 descendents born in the region (children or grandchildren), between 18 to 40 years of age. The questions were worked out based on the reports of their personal experience gathered and fundamentally supported on the final version of the linguistic questionnaire aiming the semantic-lexical aspect (QSL), approved by the National Committee of the ALIB Project (2001). With the answers obtained through these interviews we have organized a semantic-lexical data bank, transcribed and registered later on in Lexical Tables and Cartograms. From these registries of lexical items, 36 words were selected, on which we have made remarks both of geographical and socio-cultural nature. The analytical regard allowed us to apprehend the regional and ethical influences that have constituted, and still do, the Portuguese spoken in the North of Mato Grosso. Such influences may be summed up in the junction of all idiolects brought by immigrants from their original states. It is worth pointing out that in order to get to the results gathered and presented in this research, the theoretical 12 references have been used, which were based on the variation theory by Labov; on the conception of precept by Coseriu, as well as on the lexical statistic notions by Muller, although properly adapted to the specificity of this study. Therefore, this descriptive interpretative and reflective research of the multi-dialectal aspect existent in the region in focus may contribute to the existing scientific patrimony of geo-socio-linguistic studies that aim to register and document the different ways of speaking and dialectal marks existing in the Brazilian territory.

International Aspirations for Speech-Language Pathologists’ Practice with Multilingual Children with Speech Sound Disorders: Development of a Position Paper

McLeod, Sharynne, Verdon, Sarah, Bowen, Caroline 01 July 2013 (has links)
A major challenge for the speech-language pathology profession in many cultures is to address the mismatch between the “linguistic homogeneity of the speech-language pathology profession and the linguistic diversity of its clientele” (Caesar & Kohler, 2007, p. 198). This paper outlines the development of the Multilingual Children with Speech Sound Disorders: Position Paper created to guide speech-language pathologists’ (SLPs’) facilitation of multilingual children's speech. An international expert panel was assembled comprising 57 researchers (SLPs, linguists, phoneticians, and speech scientists) with knowledge about multilingual children's speech, or children with speech sound disorders. Combined, they had worked in 33 countries and used 26 languages in professional practice. Fourteen panel members met for a one-day workshop to identify key points for inclusion in the position paper. Subsequently, 42 additional panel members participated online to contribute to drafts of the position paper. A thematic analysis was undertaken of the major areas of discussion using two data sources: (a) face-to-face workshop transcript (133 pages) and (b) online discussion artifacts (104 pages). Finally, a moderator with international expertise in working with children with speech sound disorders facilitated the incorporation of the panel's recommendations. The following themes were identified: definitions, scope, framework, evidence, challenges, practices, and consideration of a multilingual audience. The resulting position paper contains guidelines for providing services to multilingual children with speech sound disorders (http://www.csu.edu.au/research/multilingual-speech/position-paper). The paper is structured using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health: Children and Youth Version (World Health Organization, 2007) and incorporates recommendations for (a) children and families, (b) SLPs’ assessment and intervention, (c) SLPs’ professional practice, and (d) SLPs’ collaboration with other professionals. Learning outcomes: Readers will 1. recognize that multilingual children with speech sound disorders have both similar and different needs to monolingual children when working with speech-language pathologists. 2. Describe the challenges for speech-language pathologists who work with multilingual children. 3. Recall the importance of cultural competence for speech-language pathologists. 4. Identify methods for international collaboration and consultation. 5. Recognize the importance of engaging with families and people within their local communities for supporting multilingual children in context.
