Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) implementation in library and information science (LIS) schools in South Africa

Hlongwane, Ike Khazamula 12 1900 (has links)
Owing to past injustices, the South African higher education sector is characterised by inequalities of resource allocation and of learning opportunities. Through the National Qualification Framework (NQF), recognition of prior learning (RPL) was established to address the previous inequalities in higher education and training. RPL can be used as a mechanism to offer non-traditional learners such as workers, adult learners, and community workers access to learning programmes in Library and Information Science (LIS) schools. It can also be used for up-skilling within LIS sector, to enable staff to migrate from paraprofessional to professional roles. LIS schools could possibly use this approach to offer experienced but unqualified library workers opportunities for progressive professional development and career growth. Despite it being a national policy and its obvious benefits, very little is known about RPL implementation in LIS schools in South Africa. This study was conducted to investigate the nature of RPL implementation in LIS schools in South Africa and make recommendations for effective and efficient RPL practice in these schools. The study used the questionnaire as the main data collection tool. In addition, document analysis was used to validate the collected data. The results of the study indicated that there were islands of good RPL practice in LIS schools in South Africa specifically with regard to the aspect of RPL assessment process. However, certain weaknesses were identified in other aspects of RPL implementation in LIS schools including the policy environment, training of personnel conducting RPL assessment and the quality management systems. Among other things, the study recommends that RPL quality management system (QMS) should ideally be driven by the head/chair of the school/department. Furthermore, an integrated student management system should be used to monitor the progression of RPL candidates through the formal academic system post RPL. / Information Science / D. Litt et. Phil. The Politics of Cosmopolitanism in Contemporary Spanish American Literature: Elena Poniatowska, Mario Vargas Llosa, and Jorge Volpi Within a Disputed Tradition

Bilodeau, Annik January 2016 (has links)
This dissertation asserts that the tortuous relationship Spanish American literature had with cosmopolitanism since the Wars of Independence reached a turning point towards the end of the second half of the twentieth century. While the literary production of the nineteenth and most of the twentieth century was centred on the Spanish American nation and the continent, contemporary literature has become increasingly deterritorialized, and has begun to present narrative worlds and discuss issues that transcend this circumscribed universe. The discerning of this articulation of global issues in contemporary literature – which I contend is predicated on the concept of cosmopolitanism – is the primary objective of this investigation. The five novels examined here are Elena Poniatowska’s La “Flor de Lis” (1988), Mario Vargas Llosa’s El Paraíso en la otra esquina (2003) and El sueño del celta (2010), and Jorge Volpi’s El fin de la locura (2003) and No será la Tierra (2006). This study aims to describe and assess an evolving perspective on the treatment of cosmopolitanism in Spanish America. I trace the shift from the previous generations’ main preoccupation with aesthetic cosmopolitanism, which sought to engage Latin American literary discourse with the Western canon, to what I identify as the current political implication of the concept. To this end, I show that whereas mid-twentieth century authors displaced cosmopolitanism in favour of more politically expedient concepts, authors now plot it in their novels as a means of discussing issues of identity and citizenship in an increasingly globalized world.

Technologie výroby základny přístroje z plastu / Production technology of plastic unit base

Vyškovský, Stanislav January 2010 (has links)
Thermoplastic injection technology is widely used in all sectors of consumer electronics and automotive industry. The biggest advantage of this manufacturing technology is a high degree of automatization and good reproducibility of the manufacturing process. Another advantage is the possibility of recycling of the gating scrap and defective products. The main task of this work is to calculate the necessary parameters for the injection process, which takes place at the designed injection form. Next part is technical design which includes choice of standard parts of injection mold and idividual semi-finished parts for mold. Thesis continues with selecting the type of injection press based on calculated parameters of the injection process. Thesis is finished by technical-economic evaluation.

Digitala leveranskedjor och höga krav på informationssäkerhet : Implikationer för att stärka Sveriges digitala motståndskraft / Digital supply chains and high requirements for information security : Implications for strengthening Sweden's digital resilience

Dohrendorf, Christian January 2024 (has links)

Tisserand, Sébastien 08 1900 (has links)
As its title indicates, this thesis deals with the legitimacy of the recourse to the declaratory action in Quebec private international law. The purpose of the declaratory action, whether it is introduced by declaration or on motion, is to allow the court to rule on the existence or the inexistence of rights and obligations of the parties. Although very old, the declaratory action was seldom used in Quebec until the advent in 1966 of the declaratory judgment on motion in our Code of civil procedure. Today, this action is largely used in public law as a means by which the Superior Court exercise its jurisdiction, but also in the context of private international law as a strategy of defence, or sometimes of attack, in an international procedure. Basically, the aim of this action is to offer a legal mechanism of protection of an individual's rights when other recourses are not available or accessible, and to allow an effective recourse out of the traditional framework of the ordinary procedure. Consequently, it seems contestable to use the declaratory judgment on motion to block the differently applicable ordinary procedures in private international law. The object of this study is thus to show that although recourse to the declaratory action is legitimate in private international law, its strategic current use, in forecast or present ordinary proceedings brought in another jurisdiction, appears not easily justifiable. Thus, the first part of this thesis is devoted to the study of legitimacy of the declaratory action in Quebec private international law, and the second part deals with the effects of a foreign declaratory judgment on motion on the international procedure in Quebec.
