(in English) The thesis aimed to explore the topos of inn in relation to the topos of journey in fantasy literature. The first step was to define the term fantasy literature with regard to the set of texts selected for the analysis; namely their connection to mythology and fairy tales, genres working with hero's initiation journey. Integral part of the thesis was to consider theoretical works focused on the image of pubs in literature, as well as a short description of the form and function of this topos in other genres. The subject of the analysis were inns from six fictional worlds representing a cross-section of the genre from the half of the 20th century until present time, while the selected examples fall mostly into the sub-genre of epic fantasy. The analysis showed that the inns have four primary functions: hero's intimate space, place of meeting and cognition, place of transformation and place of stories. Each of these functions is connected to a specific part of the initiation journey and represents its beginning, or one of its tests. All these functions are also connected to certain issues related to hero's psychological journey, namely the issue of trust, identity and will. In March 2020 the covid-19 pandemic was confirmed. Due to the pandemic, many office employees have been forced or have chosen to work from home. Distance work implicated that many office spaces have been left empty, and the future of the office is now questioned.  The office has been a place where employees go to fulfill workassignments, meet colleagues and clients. A place that creates space for exchange of experience, interaction and innovative solutions to problems. The pandemic has limited the possibility of physical meetings and to a great extent changed to digital meetings. Even though the concentrated assignments have been successfully practiced from home, the need of physical meetings has been made obvious.  The pandemic has resulted in an acceleration of the technical development and the future of the office has been much discussed. The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to examine the needs of the office as a meeting- and workplace after the year of 2020. To investigate the functions of the future office, several people with different work roles and experiences of office development has been interviewed. This bachelor thesis is based on interviews and the results of the respondents own theories and experiences of office trends.  The findings in the study reveals that a great office is a place that is optimized for the business and a place that stimulate productivity for every individual. Newly found experiences has led to the conclusion that the office has to develop in the same pace as the technological development. The office needs to be a place for impulses, meetings, exchange of experience and at the same time a place that creates the company’s culture and identity.

In this master’s thesis we examine how the public libraries’ role and mission has been interpreted during the covid-19 pandemic and how the public libraries adapted to the situation. Public libraries are communal spaces meant for the public and according to the Swedish library law the public libraries should work especially towards a few specified prioritized target groups. Therefore, we also wanted to consider which groups needs that have been fulfilled or not, through the adjustments during the pandemic. The material of the study consists of interviews with 14 public library directors and 1 developer of public libraries services. We applied Fairclough’s framework for critical discourse analysis on our interview material. This framework was supplemented with Habermas term the public sphere and with the discourses about public libraries identified by Hedemark.  In the thesis we identified reasons and arguments for how the public libraries readjusted their library activities and prioritized services. We also identified which discourses about libraries were noticeable in the library directors’ descriptions of the libraries’ role during the pandemic. Several discourses about libraries identified by Hedemark were common in the material. We also found a discourse that had not been identified by previous research, which we named the social meeting place discourse. We interpreted the prevalence of this discourse about libraries, which focuses on the social aspect of the library as a meeting place, as an effect of the pandemic. Since the libraries have not been able to function as meeting places during the pandemic, this function has become more noticeable. The closing of the libraries as meeting places has affected all the library users but has affected the libraries work towards the prioritized groups the most. In some areas of Sweden the public libraries have replaced some of the meeting place functions with new digital services. These adaptions vary greatly between different counties, which has meant that people have had different access to library services depending on where they live.  This is a two years master's thesis in Library and information science.

In this thesis, the subject of meeting places in the countryside and the importance of design in increasing the place's outdoor environment and its attractiveness are studied. Sweden's countryside and smaller towns often lack structured and active meeting places. One of the contributing factors is urbanization. The purpose of the study is to investigate and strengthen the knowledge about the significance of design at the countryside. The study conducts research from a general perspective on the design of meeting places in rural areas. At the same time, an investigation is being carried out into an existing site, with the property designation Växjö Kalvsvik 25:2, where a country store is located. The study's conclusion is that it is not obvious that measures highlighted in the study can be applied in all places because design is situational. Thus, there is no ready-made template to follow. At the same time, the study has clarified that the concepts of architecture design and design are rarely emphasized for research purposes.

My diploma thesis is mainly focusing on analyzing the potential of chosen site and it’s possibilities to be used for building a community center. Designed building should serve as a starting point for revitalization of Ponava. It is designed in a way, which makes this building an icon of the whole revitalization process and also is offering a wide variety of cultural events. In a combination with proposed solution for traffic and people flow a meeting point for a wide spectrum should be achieved with designed building as a podium for city life. Office block is then stepping out a bit from this coulisse and is the most dominant part which is supporting the other cantilevered volumes. By doing so, the important role of municipality is captured in the image of the building itself.

The architectural study deals with the design of an eight-storey multifunctional building, which is part of a completely new block of flats in the South Quarter in Brno - the Trnitá housing estate. The starting material for the processing was a new urban and volumetric study "Brno - a new southern quarter" published by the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno. The zoning plan currently being prepared envisages the relocation of the main train station and the subsequent development of the city district. The Trnitá district in Brno will be the seat of the new millennium - very unique thanks to the direct connection to the historic city center and at the same time to train and bus transport of an international character. This part of the city will be not only a new residential area, but also a gateway for passengers to Brno. Therefore, it is important to pay enough attention to the local architecture to respond to the time in which it will be built; to address the current needs of the people of Brno and, last but not least, to reflect the development trends of society in cities on a global scale. The supporting idea in the theoretical solution was for me to understand the city as a meeting place. One of the primary functions of cities in the past was to meet people regularly for trade and exchange of goods. With the emergence and very rapid development of information technology, the exchange of goods was added to the exchange of information, to which the company began to attach much greater importance. An important way of exchanging this kind are the interpersonal encounters, communication and social interaction just mentioned, which can arise more easily if we create an environment for it - an architectural space. My intention was to design a "living residential house and meeting center" in terms of active interpersonal interaction in individual operations and also in terms of a living "breathing" building envelope using plants. In the design, it was important for me to emphasize the spaces that have the potential to meet, whether accidental or targeted, and can contribute to creating social bonds in the urban environment.
