Dokumentų valdymo sistemos metaduomenų apdorojimo modelio sudarymas ir tyrimas / Analysis and Development of Metadata Processing Model for Document ManagementŽukaitis, Rimantas 25 May 2004 (has links)
The increasing usage of personal computers and Internet in organizations made it possible to create, edit and share various documents between different employees of the organization. However, document management becomes very troublesome, especially if several employees can contribute changes to a singe document: it is very hard to locate latest document version, or determine which changes to the document were made by which employee. Document management systems are aimed to solve these problems. However these systems often are highly specialized and very costly to implement, or they are general-purpose and hard to customize and apply to organization business domain. Inabilities to customize often arise from strict and inflexible metadata model, used in document management system. The aim of this work is propose abstract document metadata definition and processing model, based on XML data definition language and concept of XML data processing pipeline. The proposed model is general-purpose and highly flexible at the same time, enabling to apply model to any business domain and customize it to reflect any features specific to this domain.

Interactive visualization tools for spatial data & metadataAntle, Alissa N. 11 1900 (has links)
In recent years, the focus of cartographic research has shifted from the cartographic
communication paradigm to the scientific visualization paradigm. With this, there has been a
resurgence of cognitive research that is invaluable in guiding the design and evaluation of
effective cartographic visualization tools. The design of new tools that allow effective visual
exploration of spatial data and data quality information in a resource management setting is
critical if decision-makers and policy setters are to make accurate and confident decisions that
will have a positive long-term impact on the environment.
The research presented in this dissertation integrates the results of previous research in
spatial cognition, visualization of spatial information and on-line map use in order to explore the
design, development and experimental testing of four interactive visualization tools that can be
used to simultaneously explore spatial data and data quality. Two are traditional online tools
(side-by-side and sequenced maps) and two are newly developed tools (an interactive "merger"
bivariate map and a hybrid o f the merger map and the hypermap).
The key research question is: Are interactive visualization tools, such as interactive
bivariate maps and hypermaps, more effective for communicating spatial information than less
interactive tools such as sequenced maps? A methodology was developed in which subjects used
the visualization tools to explore a forest species composition and associated data quality map in
order to perform a range of map-use tasks. Tasks focused on an imaginary land-use conflict for a
small region of mixed boreal forest in Northern Alberta. Subject responses in terms of
performance (accuracy and confidence) and preference are recorded and analyzed. Results show
that theory-based, well-designed interactive tools facilitate improved performance across all
tasks, but there is an optimal matching between specific tasks and tools. The results are
generalized into practical guidelines for software developers. The use of confidence as a measure
of map-use effectiveness is verified. In this experimental setting, individual differences (in terms
of preference, ability, gender etc.) did not significantly affect performance.

Lietuvos akademinių bibliotekų tinklas: Lietuvos magistrantūros studentų baigiamųjų darbų, daktaro disertacijų ir jų santraukų elektroninių dokumentų informacijos sistema / Lithuanian Academic Library Network: Information system of Digital Library of Theses and DissertationFranckevičius, Arūnas 12 July 2005 (has links)
Storage, preservation and access of Master's and PhD theses as well as their abstracts in an electronic form provide unique opportunities to the academic community in Lithuania as well as worldwide. The main aims of this project were to establish an archive (Lithuanian ETD IS) of Lithuanian student final year projects, PhD theses and their abstracts in an electronic form (ETD). This archive should become a part of the Lithuanian academic library network (LABT), ensuring registration and storage of ETD documents, and should be accessible by the academic community in Lithuania and the rest of the world. In order to develop the Lithuanian ETD IS, the most widely used formats and methods for access, retrieval and exchange with NDLTD and other national ETD projects were employed. A solution, ensuring efficient ETD registration, preservation, retrieval and access by users, is presented and discussed. Application of the ExLibris programming products (ALEPH500™, MetaLib™, SFX™), developed during the LABT project, was used.

Ryšių su klientais valdymo sistema metaduomenų pagrindu / Metadata based CRM systemKrugiškis, Mantas 28 January 2008 (has links)
Pagrindinis projekto tikslas – sukurti informacinę sistemą, paremtą metaduomenų lygiu, nes išanalizavus esamų portalų rinką Lietuvoje buvo pastebėta, kad šie portalai neturi tam tikrų funkcionalumo galimybių: sudėtingas portalo valdymas bei duomenų įkėlimas į portalus, sunkus ir brangus perprojektavimas, lėtas veikimas, didelės eksploatacinės išlaidos. Buvo suprojektuota loginė portalo architektūra, sistemos elgsenos modelis (naudojantis sekų diagramomis), reliacinės duomenų bazės schema, sistemos testavimo modelis ir metabazės lygis. Ištestuotas sistemos modelis, paruošta vartotojo instrukcija. Šis portalas „Būsto portalas“ leidžia lengviau keisti duomenų struktūrą ir ją praplėsti, patogiau įkelti naują informaciją, lengviau keisti vartotojo galimybes bei pačiam vartotojui naudotis portalu. Dėka metabazės lygio greičiau pasiekiami duomenys. Portalo administratoriui lengviau ir paprasčiau perprojektuoti visą portalą kitam tikslui (pasikeitus portalo informacijos sričiai). Esant paprastai turinio valdymo sistemai – lengviau neįgudusiam administratoriui prižiūrėti portalą, nes atskirta portalo veikimo logika nuo naudojamų duomenų. / The main goal of this project is to create an informative system based on metadata level due to the research done on existing sites in Lithuania, which has shown that those sites don‘t have some functional possibilities: they are difficult to manage, loading data is complicated, redesigning is expensive and hard, slow operation, high financial maintenance. Logical site architecture has been designed as well as the model of system behaviour (using diagrams of sequences), scheme of relative data base, model of system testing and meta-base level. System model has been tested, maintenance and user‘s instruction documents have been prepared, any logical and other mistakes have been corrected. This site ‚The dwelling site‘lets easily change the structure of data and widen it, it has become more convenient to change user‘s possibilities and load new data and use the site itself. The data is quicker to reach because of the metadata level. It is also easier for site administrator to redesign the whole site for the different purpose when the range of information changes. When managing of content is easy to maintain it is also easier for a less experienced administrator to look after the site, because the logic of site operation is separated from data being used.

Arbitrary borders? New partnerships for cultural heritage siblings – libraries, archives and museums: creating integrated descriptive systemsTimms, Katherine V. 18 September 2007 (has links)
This thesis explores the topic of convergence of descriptive systems between different cultural heritage institutions — libraries, archives and museums. The primary purpose of integrated descriptive systems is to enable researchers to access cultural heritage information through one portal. Beginning with definitions of each type of cultural heritage institution and a historical overview of their evolution, the thesis then provides an analysis of similarities and differences between these institutions with respect to purpose, procedures, and perspective. The latter half of the thesis first provides a historical overview of each discipline’s descriptive practices with a brief comparative analysis before discussing various methods by which these institutions can create integrated descriptive systems. The overall emphasis is on complementary similarities between the institutions and the potential for cross-sectoral collaboration that these similarities enable. The conclusion of the thesis is that creating integrated descriptive systems is desirable and well within current technological capabilities.

Transcendental metadata: a collaborative schema for electronic resource descriptionSorensen, Charlene, Harkema, Craig, Tharani, Karim January 2011 (has links)
Academic libraries are attempting to manage growing collections of diverse electronic resources in a cha-otic environment of evolving standards and systems. The transition from a print-dominated resource en-vironment to an electronic one has complicated the decision-making process. Current discourse primarily focuses on meeting patron needs and has distracted researchers from looking at librarian needs. The au-thors discovered that librarians want a better understanding of the nature, extent, and diversity of elec-tronic resources for decision making, assessment, and accountability. Drawing from the collaborative methods and design philosophies of other disciplines, this paper outlines an approach to leveraging Web 2.0 philosophy and Business Intelligence techniques to address these needs. This approach will serve as a guide for academic librarians to transcend their current practices in order to develop innovative, colla-borative, and holistic approaches to the joint stewardship of library electronic resource collections.

Nyckeln till arkiven : En kritisk diskursanalytisk studie om interoperabilitet och kollektivt minneEngvall, Tove January 2014 (has links)
In the democratic process, of discussion and decision making, there is a need of reliable and authentic information. Archives are authentic and reliable information and also provides long term accessibility. But the public archives potential isn´t utilized enough at a societal level. The public archives are organized in a decentralised manner, and there are no common accesspoint at a national level. In the thesis this issue of accessibility and use at a societal level, is discussed in terms of collective memory. In a digital environment, these organizational limits could probably be overcome, but there is a need for new goals, perspectives and frameworks for the management of public archives. In an e-government context, interoperability is often mentioned in the discussion of accessibility. Interoperability could be understood as the ability of diverse organizations to interact together towards common goals, and include technological, semantic, organizational, legal and political aspects. The hypothesis like assumption of the thesis is that interoperability could contribute to making the archives a more significant part of the collective memory. The thesis uses a case study methodology, and a critical discourse textual analyses. Records Continuum Model and archival perspective about collective memory, particularly Jimersons distinction of collective memory from other types of memory, is used as a theoretical frame for the analyses. The case is the project e-archives and e-diarium, which is a Swedish E-delegation project, driven by the National Archives. Central documents from the project is analysed, as is important documents for the work on e-government for the contextual understanding. The results indicate that interoperability may contribute to making the archives a more significant part of the collective memory, practically and discursively. Practically, it provides conditions to share information and remove barriers for interaction. Discursively, it contributes to an overall perspective of public administration, and switch the view from each single organization to the citizens and the society as a whole where the information is seen as a common societal resource. Interoperability is also an important factor in the development of a common information architecture for the whole of the public administration. This change in perspective could make the archives, when included in the e-government, change perspective from the archives creators to the end users and society at large, and give more effort in making the archives accessible in the collective dimension.
