The rest is still unwritten: female adolescents' cultivation of gender from MTV's reality television series "The Hills" through celebrity gossip blog commentary

Seeger, Loren A. January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Journalism and Mass Communications / William J. Adams / The purpose of this study is to research cultivation effects of gender represented on MTV reality television series "The Hills" on adolescent female bloggers. Gerbner’s cultivation theory structures the background of this study. By conducting a textual analysis of various celebrity gossip blog sites from November 1-30, 2008, this study will unveil personal opinions relating to the reality of constructed gender representation and authenticity of "The Hills" as a “reality” television program. Blogs provide an ambiguous platform for individuals to immediately express opinions, judgments and attitude concerning the program; therefore, this study will be a contribution to the expanding field of convergence and “new media.” Although comments on the websites are critical of "The Hills" characters and their depiction of “reality,” the television program has a dedicated audience, calling for the reevaluation of “fandom.” Cyberspace offers an opportunity for virtual dialogue among viewers, as well as a platform to express cyberfeminist rhetoric. Women and girls are gaining new social and organizing space, claiming a new form of power and shaping media and society through particular kinds of participatory communication.

FSC forest management certification analysis in Lithuaniua and Russia / FSC miškų vadybos sertifikavimo analizė Lietuvoje ir Rusijoje

Makrickas, Evaldas 01 June 2011 (has links)
First time name of certification were mentioned 1990s concerning a problems with bad forest practices, hard improvement of governmental regulations especial in tropics. Later this concern were growing to 1992 Rio de Janeiro conference. And so, need of strict forest system in 1993 established Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Main activities started later 1996 in Canada with small group of people which started developing countries regional standards (Claros, 2009). Now FSC program is one of the biggest forest certification and accreditation providing company providing wood and their products and certification service. This program supports LEED Lumber, IKEA, biggest companies buying wood in the world, non governamental organisations World wild Fund (WWF), Green peace (www.fsc.org). The curiosity of how FSC forest certification impact forest management in Lithuania and Russia and lack of FSC standard studies with national law encouraged to create such study. We want to analyze FSC certification annual public reports raised CAR’s (Corrective action request) from Forest Management Units (FMU) - enterprises, leaseholders in Lithuania and Russia. The first aim was to find, what main CAR’s in Lithuania, Russia and distribute CAR’s to environmental, economical, social type aspects. In later stages analyze Lithuanian and Russian FSC standards Smart Wood, SGS Qualifor and Russian national. In the last step to compare FSC standards with state law for each country. Analysis of... Bolivijoje, Brazilijoje, Indonezijoje FSC sertifikavimas vis dar plečiamas (Claros, 2009). Sertifikacijos dėka gerinama miškų valdymo kokybė, biologinės įvairovės apsauga, sprendžiamos darbuotojų saugos problemos. Šio standarto visapusišku naudingumu neabejoja daugelis FSC rėmėjų: LEED Lumber, IKEA, bei didžiausios miško produktus superkančios ar nevyriausybinės organizacijos, Pasaulio gamtos fondas (World wild Fund WWF), Green peace (www.fsc.org).

This thesis is a research about graffiti on Television, considering it’s actualization on Brazilian Music Television (MTV). This work belongs to Audiovisual research line of Post Graduation in Communication by UNISINOS, and had come from the intuition of a televisioned-graffiti working on TV programming. On the way to research about this phenomenon this project tries to get an answer to the following questions: How does graffiti is being actualized on MTV? Wich devires of graffiti can be found on these actualization? Wich configurations are established by the esthetic and technical processes on the actualization of graffiti on MTV? The methodological processes of this research are taken in contemporary philosophy related to the Bergson’s intuition method, Deleuze and Guattari’s rizoma method, Derrida’s desconstructive method and, finally, the cartographic process of investigation. The corpus for cartographic analysis was taken from MTV’s fluxes: commercials, marketing points (MP) and promo-images (PI), those

This study is about the process that cultural production goes through in order to turn itself public within a global context in the beginning of the XXI century. It matches the configurations of an oligopolist market that keeps its organization three merger and concentrations. It rascues the link the music will bring up with the brazilian television to put it, at last, within history and development of MTV Brazil. Also it presents the strategics points of commercing musical products analyzing the MTV programming. At the same time, it contextualizes the brazilian musical scenary from the industrial to alternative way in the technological development. Out of the Spotlight and into the Shadows: An Examination of Communication about Adolescent Girls on Music Television.

Fentress, Stacy Nichole 01 May 2002 (has links)
This study examines portrayals of adolescent girls on Music Television (MTV). A content analysis of 26 hours of MTV programming was conducted and analyzed using quantitative and qualitative methods. Analyzed programming was shown August-November 2001. Dates were chosen randomly; times were chosen randomly from the pools of hours in which adolescents usually watch television. Adolescent girls predominantly appear in the background of MTV programs. Many of them cheer for male celebrities, but only 12% speak. The content analysis reveals that a narrow beauty ideal is promoted on the channel-most girls are thin, White, and wearing revealing clothing. It is argued that MTV portrayals exacerbate girls' body dissatisfaction, sexual objectification, and confidence slide. This study is significant because the stories told on MTV are reflected in the lived world, and those stories suggest that girls should sit quietly in the background and be thin and White to be considered beautiful.

Friedrich, Gregor 03 July 2020 (has links)
