A cobertura sobre o Código Florestal no Jornal Nacional

Teixeira, Taís Garcia January 2014 (has links)
This dissertation aims to the coverage about the Brazilian Forest Code in the Jornal Nacional, from 2012 to May 2013. The methodology used is content analysis in which will be checked what news values of selection and construction appear most in the categories environmental issue and politics. The most listened sources were also examined. The news values of selection that appear most were conflict or controversy, notoriety and time (ephemeris) in both issues and the news values of selection most used were dramatization, personalization on both issues and amplification, in the political issue, and simplification in the environmental issue. The most used sources were the primary, official and witnesses. In 2013, the Jornal Nacional showed no article about the Forest Code, not even in May when it completed one year of validity. We conclude that the environmental focus has been deprecated for a political coverage focused on the dispute between ruralist and environmentalist parliamentarians around the redaction of the new text.

Gestaltning av kriget i Afghanistan i en nationell och internationell kontext : En kvalitativ studie om hur kriget i Afghanistan gestaltas på TOLOnews i Afghanistan och SVT Nyheter i Sverige / Framing of war in Afghanistan in a national and international context : A qualitative study on how the war in Afghanistan frames on TOLOnews in Afghanistan and SVT Nyheter in Sweden

Khalili, Farhad, Ubaidi-Karlsson, Hamed January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this study was to find out how the war in Afghanistan is framed both in national and international context. This was conducted by comparing the national tv channel TOLOnews from Afghanistan with the international tv channel SVT Nyheter from Sweden. A qualitative text analysis as well as a semiotic photo analysis were implemented on four news articles and two photos from each channel respectively. Framing theory, agenda setting, and news values provided the theoretical background to be able to carry out the study. The significant findings of the study show that SVT Nyheter uses various secondary foreign sources for their articles in comparison to TOLOnews which uses only first-hand sources as can be expected of international and national tv channels. Furthermore, SVT Nyheter concentrates mostly on facts such as the number of people killed in attacks whereas TOLOnews concentrates more on the personal stories of the local people affected by the attacks. Finally, the study discusses what could be the underlying reasons of the findings of the study and thereby the differences of the framing of the war in Afghanistan by the two tv channels.

Fotografie ve službách žurnalistiky: Sociálně sémiotická analýza vítězných snímků Czech Press Photo (2006-2015) / Photography in the Service of Journalism: A Social Semiotic Analysis of the Winning Pictures of Czech Press Photo (2006-2015)

Patáková, Veronika January 2017 (has links)
This thesis deals with visual communication in the form of photography. Explaining the theories of Roland Barthes and Vilém Flusser we point out the tight relationship of this medium with reality that obscures its constructive character. The witness role of photography seems to be essential in the context of journalism, where we are offered a story by the pictures that is however mistaken for reality itself. The thesis tries to present practices of media discourse that make us perceive an event as newsworthy. It draws on the theory of news values and the methods of social semiotic analysis and applies these to the winning photos of the contest Czech Press Photo (2006-2015). We highlight the semiotic resources used in the meaning-making process in relation to each picture. The results show that the preferred constructed news values are negativity, aesthetic appeal, proximity and personalisation and that the winning photographs mostly strengthen their semblance of being strictly informative.

Katastrofa v Americe: kritická diskurzivní analýza hurikánu Sandy v českých médiích / Catastrophe in America: Critical Discoursive Analysis of Hurricane Sandy in Czech Press

Bednářová, Anna January 2013 (has links)
This thesis analyzes the way of presenting the catastrophe called Sandy in the Czech media. The motivation for choosing this topic was the ascertainment that the information about Sandy narrows only on the information about New York in spite of the fact, that this hurricane, sometimes called tropical storm or "superstorm" caused many injuries in the area of Cuba, Jamaica, the Bahamas and especially Haiti. The analysis is realized by force of critical discourse analysis of Norman Fairclough, because this method is appropriate especially for analysing mass media texts in the way of offering complex view from the level of social context, through the process of production to the language form of texts. Consequently, theoretical background comes from the methods and concepts of Norman Fairclough, from the definition of media discourse, which is oriented on new media, news and news values. The analysis is oriented on the most readable Czech online news and the on the news web pages of the Czech public service television and the Czech public service radio. The goal of this thesis is primarily the comparison between the way of reporting about the hurricane between the commercial and public service online news articles; revealing ideological and powerful aspects in the way of this reporting; and the...

Mediální obraz dětských pěveckých sborů před a po "kauze Kulínský" / The Image of Children's Choirs in Czech Press before and after the "Kulínský Case"

Vrbová, Eliška January 2021 (has links)
This thesis focuses on a media image of children's choirs influenced by the so-called "Kulínský Case". The aim of this thesis is to find out how and how often the Czech press informs about children's choirs and if the aforementioned case somehow changed the presentation of this content. The term "Kulínský Case" refers to the controversial case when choirmaster Bohumil Kulínský was found guilty of sexually abusing underage girls. First part of this thesis covers the media theories such as the news values and also describes the concepts linked with choir singing. In the research part, the results of quantitative and qualitative content analysis of three Czech daily newspapers Mladá fronta DNES, Lidové noviny and Právo are presented and interpreted. The analysis is focused on the content published in Prague editions of these three newspapers in two selected time frames. These time frames had been selected in accordance with the development of the "Kulínský Case". The research focuses on the frequency of the published texts, on used genres, newspaper sections and on the meaning and quality of the texts. Afterwards ensues the comparison of the two selected time frames. Furthermore, the last part of this research is focused on the media coverage of the death of Bohumil Kulínský by the online news...

DN:s nya Norrland : En digital textanalys av representationen av Norrland efter Dagens Nyheters satsningar i norra Sverige / DN:s new Norrland : A digital text analysis of the Swedish national newspaper Dagens Nyheters new editorial offices in northern Sweden.

Forsman, Filip, Hellgren, Anton January 2023 (has links)
DN:s new Norrland – A digital text analysis of the Swedish national newspaper Dagens Nyheters new editorial offices in northern Sweden.     The aim of this study is to compare the coverage of Norrland in the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter before and after the fourth of April 2022. That date marks the opening of two new editorial offices in Umeå and Luleå as part of new investments in the area. The material gathered for the analysis consists of articles from one year before the editorial offices opened, as well as one year after. The method utilized in this essay was a quantitative digital text analysis, as it was the method that allowed us to capture a whole year worth of news coverage. Using computers in quantitative analysis is of big help, and something that allowed the study to incorporate 1579 articles into two separate networks for our study.    The theoretical framework of this study consists of Representation (defined by Stuart Hall), concepts of media shadow (by Nygren, Althén and Nord) as well as Madeleine Erikssons thoughts about reproducing Norrland in the media. Other theories such as news values, centers and peripheries and agenda setting are also used to strengthen the analysis.    With the help of the network analysis tool Gephi, two different networks of correlations were identified and analyzed. The results show that despite the opening of the new editorial offices,  DN still portrays a picture of Norrland as “the other”. New industries and investments are covered, with lots of articles regarding the need for workers in Norrland. In the networks from Gephi, we can see a shift from focus on Sweden to Stockholm as the main local areas that feature in the articles. However, regions, and most specifically, cities, are still in the periphery of the news discourse in DN.

A Discourse Analysis of News Values in BBC Reports on Refugees from Ukraine and Afghanistan

Strömberg, Emma January 2023 (has links)
Ukraine and Afghanistan are two nations not unfamiliar with war, with thousands of their civilians fleeing the two countries. This study examines reports produced by the BBC and the use of news values when reporting on refugees from Ukraine and Afghanistan. This paper aims to investigate which news values were used when reporting on the refugees and to see if there are any differences found between them. To achieve this goal, a discourse news values analysis (DVNA, Bednarek & Caple, 2017) was used where each report was color-coded and analysed with the help of linguistic devices. The results show that personalization and positivity were mostly construed in reports on Ukrainian refugees, while superlativeness, eliteness, and negativity were predominant in reports on Afghan refugees. Some similarities were also found, with timeliness, proximity, impact, and consonance being constructed in both data sets almost equally. Thus, this study shows that while personal stories are more common with Ukrainian refugees, human drama and numbers are more predominant when reporting on Afghan refugees.

Ämnen och muntliga källor i Rapport och Tv4 Nyheterna

Fridolf, Jesper January 2022 (has links)
This study aims to measure how often news items and oral sources occur. Two news programs have been examined. One is operated via public service, Rapport, and the other is a commercial company, Tv4 Nyheterna. The results of the two were compared in order to be able to distinguish similarities and differences in how they choose to shape their programs. The idea that led to this study was to see if the news programs different organizations, history and funding systems lead to certain topics and oral sources being addressed more or less than in the rival's broadcasts. The aim was to measure, that is, to convert the broadcast into numbers that can be interpreted. Therefore, I considered a positivistic approach appropriate. Therefore, I chose quantitative content analysis as a method. The coding itself was performed via a code scheme that defines the various options. The result gives the impression that the similarities between the two news programs are greater than the differences, but of course there are differences. One of the perhaps biggest differences between the two is when you look at the distribution of topics under foreign news. Rapport, driven by public service, gives domestic news more space than what Tv4 Nyheterna does. This is just one of many differences. To sum up, I would like to say that the different financing systems lead to some differences, but the whole thing is still characterized by unity.

An analysis of international news in Malawi newspapers

Kondowe, Emmanuel Braham Zumani 31 March 2008 (has links)
The study used quantitative content analysis to compare the international news content about Africa and the rest of the world in selected daily and weekly newspapers in Malawi and explored the extent to which economic factors, as represented by the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), influence news flows about Africa into Malawi. The results showed dominance of the categories of war/international conflict and politics. International news agencies were the principal sources of news items for all the four papers. Though there were differences among the newspapers in the amount of space allocated to various categories such differences were minor. The study established that GDP is not a determinant of the amount of coverage a country receives. / Communication Science / M.A. (International Communication)
