Faith Leaders' Experiences on Health Counseling Provided to Their Congregation

Dickens, LaTangee DeGrace 01 January 2019 (has links)
Numerous faith-based organizations (FBOs), denominations, and religious groups are represented in the United States. Faith leaders have the responsibility of addressing the spiritual needs of the congregation; however, the health needs of parishioners may be a point of discussion faith leaders should address. Communities surrounding FBOs may have limited health care services, lack transportation, and have serious health issues. The purpose of this phenomenological qualitative study was to explore the experiences of faith leaders on giving health counseling to their congregation. Faith leaders play an essential role in providing health counseling on various health topics to their congregation and community. A total of 15 faith leaders were recruited from 6 counties in North Carolina by convenience sampling. Face-to-face face semi-structured interviews was the data collection method. The transformational leadership theory was used to examine how faith leaders motivate parishioners through constructs of the framework. Using NVivo, a qualitative data analysis software tool, the coded results indicated that faith leaders need specialized training to provide health counseling to parishioners about health issues shared beyond their field of expertise. The insight gained from faith leaders was important to understand the health-related resources needed to improve the health of parishioners. This study may be useful for faith leaders, public health educators, health policy makers, and researchers seeking to understand faith leaders' experiences; it could impact positive social change by providing resources and training needed to combat health-related issues within congregations.

Ghetto of woestyntog?

Gerber, J. J. (Jacobus Johannes) 11 1900 (has links)
Faith which is handled in catechesis as part of the total process of the formation of faith should be understood in a holistic-ecosystemic way with its 'hic et nunc' relevance as a qualifying criterion. It should also appear in this form in the material for catechesis in the Nederduitse Gereformeerde Kerk. The greater part of the study focuses on broad theorising from a holistic-ecosystemic perspective. An independent practical-theological theory on faith is developed from a scientific-theoretical basis. This theory sees faith as a dynamic interaction of gift, content and response on the one hand and a number of different perspectives on the other. It serves as the point of departure for describing some of the contexts in which faith functions, namely the kingdom of God, society, the community, catechesis, the adolescent, the youth subculture and the school. In the process a comprehensive theory about catechesis is developed which sees it holistically ecosystemically. Content analysis is used to test aspects of the theories against the lessons in the manuals for catechists working with adolescents in standards 5 to 8. The resultant image of faith is found to be cognitively-vertically sterile. Over a period of more than twenty years few socially relevant issues were touched on. The important documents Ras, Volk en Nasie and Kerk en Samelewing did not function. In terms of the theory of faith this material for catechesis does not facilitate relevant faith in the world in which the adolescent has to have faith. It is also apparent that content analysis as a method and the measuring instrument used were suitable. Using the theories and the empirical investigation the study formulates a number of perspectives from which catechesis and the lesson material can deal with the critical handling of the relationship cognitively-affectively-conatively and the directedness individually-vertically, horizontally-ecclesially and horizontally-socially so that the church does not imprison itself and its adolescent members in a dogmatistic ghetto, but shapes them so that their faith can function independently and relevantly on the way of faith through the desert of the world with a view to realise the kingdom of God. / Philosophy, Practical & Systematic Theology / Th. Weg zum vollkommenen Glauben nach dem Jakobusbrief / Striving for perfect faith according to the Epistle of James

Böllert, Michael 09 1900 (has links)
This thesis examines whether and in what way the Epistle of James shows the way to perfect faith. A detailed survey of research indicates that this is an important and relevant question that has, as yet, not been adequately examined. General questions about the Epistle of James are addressed before a detailed analysis of the central terminology of this study, the language of faith and of perfection. Assessment of this terminology requires an understanding of which linguistic and other contexts were prevalent at the time of writing and how these may have influenced the author. The results of these analyses are included in a detailed exegesis of James 2:1-26 (which constitutes the main part of the thesis). Close attention is paid to the rhetorical structure, the linguistic features and the cultural background of the passage. This thesis argues that the example of Abraham’s faith in James 2:22 is of special significance in the argumentation of the letter and in the quest for perfect faith. The conclusion confirms the notion that the Letter of James makes a crucial contribution to our understanding of faith and its perfection. This thesis also draws out certain implications for New Testament theology, the contemporary church and society at large. / New Testament / M. Th. (New Testament)

Abuso de direito processual do credor instituição financeira / Abuse of procedural right by the financial institution creditor

No. of bitstreams: 1 Marcio Mello Casado.pdf: 2672020 bytes, checksum: 8260a0b1b962ef2998eedf1e771f0d46 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-05-17 / Over the last sixteen years, Brazil has gone through important legislative modifications, which have been motivated by the need, in the economical field, of reducing the interests rate and the banking spread. The changes that have occurred, not only in civil procedure, were encouraged by the financial institutions and by the Central Bank of Brazil, through a series of annual reports. The model in which the modifications were based had as its foundation the paradigm that the lack of effectiveness in the civil procedure was the result of a system that granted many guarantees to the creditor, which would make it difficult for the credits to be obtained in court. In the field of substantial law, the legislation would obstruct a series of contractual practices carried out by the financial institutions, once abusive. The Judicial System, when interpreting these rules in force, would have an inadequate position, contrary to the interests of the financial institutions. The system would suffer from a moral risk. The legislation has been modified. Licit situations have become illicit. New forms of enforcement and its instruments have been created or improved. Although, the system still suffers from the sluggishness for parties to obtain their credits in court. The interests rate and the banking spread remain high. The diagnosis was mistaken. The obtaining of the credits in court was slow not because the Judiciary System was being lenient with de debtors, or because the legislation was retrograde or excessively protective. The abuse of procedural right by the financial institutions, with the sole aim of enforcing the contractual illegalities and to force the performance of undue installments is the cause for the delay on the closure of the law suits. The financial institutions, assumingly acting in bad faith, insist on using excessive procedural tools, in order to try to make illegality prevail. The process ends up operating not as a means of enforcing justice, but as a way to blackmail and to discourage the debtor of proceeding in the defense of his legitimate rights. However, one of the damaged parties by the abuse of procedural right is the creditor himself, as far as, with the reaction of the good faith debtor, the process tends to procrastinate, not because the debtor is not right, the opposite: the debtor is right and the creditor can t cope with this fact. Notwithstanding, the abuse of procedural right can only succeed when there is an active or omissible collaboration of the Judicial System. Jurisdiction becomes a means of realization of the abuse, instead of being the least likely place for it to be found in. At last, all the parties involved lose with the abuse of procedural right: the debtor, once, in some moment, could give up, even having the law on his side; the creditor, because it will take a long time for him to obtain his credit; the State, once the Judicial System must administrate a litigation which could have been solved way before. Also, the collectivity, under a diffuse point of view. The abuse of procedural right needs treatment, and this could be preventive, corrective or compensating / Nos últimos dezesseis anos, o Brasil sofreu importantes modificações legislativas motivadas pela necessidade, no âmbito econômico, de se reduzirem os juros e o spread bancário.

Challenges and Opportunities for Culturally Sensitive Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in the African Context

Amigues, Amanda January 2022 (has links)
Mental Health and Psychosocial Support is a growing field of intervention in humanitarian assistance worldwide. The influence of culture and faith in individual and collective coping mechanisms and recovery processes has brought scholars to emphasize the need for MHPSS programming to adopt a cultural and faith sensitive approach to increase the cultural relevance and efficacity of interventions. However, despite official guidelines for humanitarian agencies to integrate cultural and faith sensitivity in their operations, there is an information gap on designing such an approach and its effects on the implementation and success of interventions. This qualitative study explores the opportunities and challenges encountered when adopting a cultural and faith sensitive approach within MHPSS interventions in the context of the Red Cross in Zambia, Ghana, Niger, and South Africa. Based on in-depth interviews with key informants from the Red Cross, the results provide insights into the strengths and opportunities of adapting to local cultural norms and practices and cooperating with faith-based and traditional community leaders during the implementation of MHPSS. The study concludes on the potential of such an approach to strengthen the local capacities of faith-based actors and reduce the stigmatization of mental illness.
