En anpassningsbar applikationstruktur för flerpunktspekskärmar / An adaptable application structure for multi-touch screens

Bäck, Henrik, Andersson, Mathias January 2009 (has links)
Classical mouse interaction is limited in that only a single screen point at a time can be activated. Most application interaction is, due to this, performed in a sequential manner. This may be a limiting factor as humans by nature explore problems with both hands simultaneously. Multi-touch screens are a relatively new type of technology that enables new ways of interaction where multiple touch points can exist simultaneously. This thesis focuses on the problem with developing an application with a user interface designed for multi-touch screens. The application that has been developed defines a base structure from which future applications can be developed, unlike implementations examined in the feasibility study which mainly focus on solving specific problems. A multi-touch screen is also built using standard off the shelf components.

The impact of in-vehicle screen notifications on the driver : The relationship between various personality traits and cognitive load levels in in-vehicle screen notifications

Nasov, Oleg, Gudimalla, Tirumala Krishna Mohan January 2023 (has links)
These days, everything revolves around technology, and we have instantaneous access to all information. To stay up to date on current events, we get notifications on our smart devices when relevant articles or messages become available. Displays and other forms of technology are ubiquitous in today's car interiors to both enhance the driving experience and keep the driver in touch with the information they provide. However, depending on the situation and task at hand, these notifications can elicit a variety of reactions from us when they appear at an inconvenient time. The problem statement of this research was that there was very little amount of research done on the connection between drivers with different personality traits and how the incoming in-vehicle notifications affect them in various cognitive load scenarios. This study put participants in a practical research where they have been doing a primary task while interacting with notifications as a side task. The tasks at hand have been divided based on the user's cognitive load, or the amount of focus required for that activity, like different driving scenarios in real life. We have collected sufficient data through practical research in which participants have been placed in a scenario of performing a primary task while interacting with incoming notifications. Prior to that, the personality traits of the participants have been determined using a survey, which assisted us in connecting the similarities and differences among the various personality trait groups. In the practical part of the study, a screen was used on which the participant performed a primary task in the form of a video game, as well as a screen beside him, mimicking an infotainment screen, with incoming notifications with which he had to interact. This provided us with accurate data based on its similarity to an actual everyday scenario, such as while driving a car. The findings aided in establishing a clear link between personality traits, levels of cognitive load, and notifications in general, and how they are interlinked.

A Comparative Investigation of the Application of Photographic Images to Glass by Screen-Process Enamel Ink, Screen-Process Glass Etching, and Transfer-Key

Hanna, James Walter 12 1900 (has links)
The problem with which this comparative investigation is concerned is the application of a photographically derived image to glass. The image used originated from an ordinary thirty-five-millimeter color slide. This slide, through photographic darkroom manipulation, was translated into thirty individually different, black and white films of four-by-five-inch size. Selected films were then enlarged onto eleven-by-fourteen-inch, Kodalith film. These enlarged films were contact exposed to Ulano's Blue Poly-3, a presensitized silkscreen photofilm. This in turn was adhered to twelve double X silk which was tautly stretched in a wooden frame.

What makes the flow - Understanding the immateriality of screen-based interactions

Tikkanen, Marjo January 2016 (has links)
Building upon previous research done on interactivity attributes describing the aesthetic quality of interactions, this paper aims to explore the sense of ow in screen-based interactions, narrowing down to the finer details that make the personality of the interactive experience. The goal is to provide a deeper knowledge on the concrete, expressive qualities of screen based interaction, being “the immaterial material” moulded in the design process. The relevant information for practicing designers is the awareness of what emotions certain interactions elicit and how interactions can be used to convey brand personality. The process conducted followed a research through design methodology, as the aim was to explore the defined design space rather than answer a specific problem. Two major user studies provided insights and refocus in the process along the way to the final result: a set of guidelines and a prototype embodying them. The guidelines provide some details on designing flow experiences on a mobile screen, and are to serve as inspiration and reference to future work and design practice. The prototype, called ‘The Embodiment’ serves as an illustration of the guidelines, as mere words are not able to fully describe the dynamic quality.

Development of a planar electrochemical sensor modified with 1-2 Diaminobenzene (DAB) for nitrite measuring by automatic FIA.

Almeida, Fernando Luis de 11 September 2009 (has links)
In this Master of Science, it has been developed an electrochemical planar sensor defined with three electrodes for nitrite measuring and its interferents (uric acid, ascorbic acid and paracetamol). In the experimental procedure, it is shown the development of an extracorporis set up (mini-pump, solenoid valves and analysis cell) which is coupled to a system of Flow-injection Analysis (FIA). This work also describes the sensor fabrication using alumina substrates, the standard cleaning of the electrodes, the process to obtain Ag/AgCl reference electrodes in HCl (0.1 mol L-1) and electrochemical activation of the working-electrode surface with H2SO4 (0.1 mol L-1). Following, it is shown the study of drying for electrodes at room temperature with exposition to room light and their characterization using three different methods: i) reversibility test (redox current vs. potential); ii) variation of the potential with the time (thermodynamics degradation coefficient) and iii) variation of the potential with the chloride concentration. Also, it is presented the characterization of the effective exposed area of the working electrode and the results of the deposited 1-2 Diaminobenzene (DAB) is presented as a selective polymer. In addition, the results and discussions of the pseudo-reference (recovered or not with Nafion® 117) are presented. Related to irreversibility is the hysteresis associated to the reference electrodes which resulted in the order of 40 mVAg/AgCl Nafion® 117. The observed thermodynamic potentials were of (100 ± 6) mVAg/AgCl Nafion® 117 for pseudo-electrodes recovered with Nafion® 117. Later on, a careful study of the response to nitrite and to its interferents was performed by means of the DPV technique (Differential Pulse Voltammetry). In order to avoid accelerated degradation (corrosion) of the polymer, measurements were performed at a potential of 0,5 VAg/AgCl Nafion® 117. In this condition, nitrite was monitored using the automatized-FIA (Flow Injection Analysis) for concentration in the range of 50 to 250 mol L-1. The results have shown that the planar amperometric sensor for nitrite measuring is usefull since it was observed excellent performance related to reproducibility (99.66%), sensitivity (90 microA mol-1 L mm-2), selectivity (0.32%), repetibility (91.28%) and stability (15.0 ± 0.3 pA).

Genome wide analysis for novel regulators of growth and lipid metabolism in drosophila melanogaster / Cribles Post-Génomiques pour l’Identification de Régulateurs de la Croissance et du Métabolisme Lipidique chez la Drosophile

Zahoor, Muhammad kashif 31 March 2011 (has links)
The evolutionary conserved insulin and nutrient signaling network regulates growth andmetabolism. Nutrients are directly utilized for growth or stored, mostly as triglycerides. InDrosophila, activation of insulin/nutrient signaling in the fat body (the fly equivalent of liverand adipose tissue), causes an increase in fat stores composed of several small-size lipiddroplets (LDs). Conversely, fasting produces an increase in LD size and a decrease in fatcontents. The TOR kinase and its substrate S6 kinase (S6K) play a central role in this response, and particularly in Drosophila, they have been shown to orchestrate cell-autonomous andhormone-controlled growth. However, despite extensive research studies on different modelorganisms (mouse, fly, worm) to decipher the molecular and physiological functions of S6K,nothing is known about how its degradation is regulated.Taking advantage of the inducible RNA interfering (RNAi) library from NIG (Japan), we haveperformed three genetic screens to identify novel regulators of steroidogenesis, lipidmetabolism and dS6K-dependent growth. First, RNAi lines were screened in the ring gland; anorgan that controls the progression of the developmental steps by producing the steroidhormone ecdysone. Out of 7,000 genes screened, 620 positive candidates were identified toproduce developmental arrest and/or overgrowth phenotypes. Then, we challenged 4,000 genesby RNAi screening able to recapitulate the larger sized LD phenotype as obtained uponstarvation, leading to the identification of 24 potential candidates. Finally, the RNAi lines werescreened for their ability to enhance a growth phenotype dependent of the Drosophila S6K(dS6K). Out of 7,000 genes screened, 45 genes were identified as potential negative regulatorsof dS6K. These genes were further used to design a novel protein-protein interaction networkcentered on dS6K through the available data from yeast-2-hybrid (Y2H) assay. The most potentinteractors were then analyzed by treatment of cultured S2 cells with the corresponding doublestrand RNA (dRNA). Western blotting thus, allowed us to discriminate between the geneproducts that regulate dS6K levels versus those that regulate its phosphorylation, as a hallmarkfor its kinase activity. Interestingly, archipelago (ago), which encodes a component of an SCFubiquitinligase known to regulate the degradation of dMyc, Cyclin E and Notch, was identifiedas a negative regulator of dS6K-dependent growth. Based on the Y2H available data showingthat Ago and dS6K interact each other and the presence of a putative Ago-interaction motif indS6K, we hypothesized that Ago causes an ubiquitin-mediated degradation of dS6K. Ourmolecular data showed that loss of ago caused an elevated level of dS6K, which confirms arole of Ago in controlling dS6K degradation. Altogether our findings emphasize the importanceof the saturating screening strategies in Drosophila to identify novel regulators of metabolicand signaling pathways.
