Plain Print : a surface pattern collection screen printed with natural dye

Hüls, Lisa January 2021 (has links)
The interest for natural dye has increased together with the concern in sustainability and environmental awareness within the textile industry. Natural dye is one of the oldest techniques when it comes to textile production, but when synthetic dyestuffs were discovered, the usage of the technique decreased. Today, the technique is slowly coming back together with the awareness in sustainability. However, regarding surface patterns, the expression is quite limited, and patterns are created by dyeing techniques, muted colors and nature as an obvious inspiration. This degree work explores natural dye print by designing a screen printed surface pattern collection, and the project advocates for and is an addition to the field of natural dye print. The methods used were drawing, digital sketching and screen printing. The methods of designing were done through practical workshops, both for sketching patterns and to explore techniques within natural dye print. The female body is a design theme in the work and the intention is simply to portray the body as it is. The motive has not been chosen to provoke, to address a political issue or to evoke discussion. The result is three surface patterns printed with different printing techniques on different fibers. A significant part of the result is the reference library containing all the printed samples and can be used for further research within the field. Choice of fabric and scale of design was done with fashion fabric in mind, however, to focus on the design and technique the designs are not presented on any kind of product. Tests were done to try out the light fastness of the different colorants on different fibers. This project has expanded the field of natural dye print by adding a screen printed surface pattern collection with thematic patterns and an expression that does not reveal the use of natural dye. The project also resulted in a steppingstone for further work within the field.

Role and function of arabidopsis thaliana WIPs protein during reproductive organ development. Toward a better understanding of CmWIP1 genetic network.

Haraghi, Aïmen 08 December 2016 (has links)
One of the characteristics of living organisms is the ability to reproduce themselves. Sexual reproduction is a mechanism that increases the potential diversity of species and their positive selection. To reproduce most of plants species use a type of sexual organ named flower. The sex of this organ is determined by the presence or absence of two different types of reproductive tissue. The stamen is the male reproductive tissue and the carpel is (the female reproductive tissue). In many species the development of these tissues is controlled by a network of genes. Cucumis melo (melon) is a model plant to study genetic network controlling sex determination. Melon sex determination genetic model can be explained by the modulation of three genes. The gene CmACS-7 at the locus M which encodes for an ethylene biosynthesis enzyme that represses stamen development (Boualem and al 2008). The gene CmWIP1 at the locus G which encodes a putative transcription factor that represses carpel development (Martin and al 2010). And the gene CmACS11 at the locus A which encode for an ethylene biosynthesis enzyme that represses CmWIP1 expression (boualem et al 2015). The aim of this thesis project is to understand in which biological process cmWIP1 is involved to inhibit carpel development. The identification of the precise function of cmWIP1 will lead to the identification of new putative alleles controlling carpel development and sex determination. To achieve this goal we set up a genetic screen in Arabidopsis thaliana to unravel genetic interactors of CmWIP1. At the present moment we found four putative genetic interactors. These putative candidates will be tested in melon. Plants that are mutated in theses cmWIP1 genetic interactors should harbour female organ inside each of their flowers. Then the introgression of these alleles in crop species may increase fruit and/or seed yields.

Att arbeta med barns skärmanvändning, specialistsjuksköterskors erfarenheter : En intervjustudie / Working with children's screen usage, specialist nurses' experiences : An interview study

Osman, Naima, Bolmvik, Sara January 2020 (has links)
Background: Children's screen usage has increased in recent years and parents' screen usage has strong association with children's screen usage. When the specialist nurse works based on family-centered nursing, conversations about screen usage can include the whole family. Purpose: To describe specialist nurses' experiences of working with children’s screen usage in Child Health Services.  Method: The study was conducted with qualitative design with inductive approach. Totally 11 specialist nurses in Child Health Services were interviewed. Qualitative content analysis according to Graneheim and Lundman (2004) was used to analyze that data material. Results: The analysis of the interview material collected led to two categories, dialogue and reflection and the challenges of screen usage.  Within these categories seven subcategories were identified. There was an opportunity to talk about children's screen usage in parental groups and health visits. Specialist nurses described that there were challenges depending on the parents' approaches to screen usage and that the screen competed with children's other activities. Conclusion: This study showed the importance of specialist nurses in child health services bringing up the topic of screen through dialogue and reflection with children and parents. Screen usage was described as a difficult subject and there were challenges in the work.

How does the technical quality of the image mediated by an ultra-high definition screen influence the cognitive processing of information, the quality of experience, and the relation to reality?

Lachat, Amélie 13 March 2018 (has links)
The screen is a ubiquitous interface daily used. Overextended by screens, the individual cannot perceive all the information. Understanding the visual attention to media content is a crucial issue in the marketing strategy. A parameter of the mediated image has not been taken into account in the studies conducted so far: the technical quality of the image. It can be defined as the set of parameters that objectively compose an image: the definition, the image frequency, the brightness dynamics and the color. To measure the perception of the improvement of these parameters, an exploratory phase was conducted including a perceived quality test, a focus group and interviews. A confirmatory empirical phase followed to study the visual attention and memorization of mediated information through two experiments. A series of interviews and a focus group explored hyperreality in the mediated image and its impact on immersion and quality of experience.
