Ekokamrar i pandemin : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys om åsikterna i två ekokamrar rörande pandemihanteringen av covid-19 i Sverige

Rudhe, Signe January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine users ́ opinions regarding the Swedish management of the covid-19 pandemic in two echo chambers, consisting of the comment fields in two ideologically different news pages on Facebook, Aftonbladet and Samtiden. Using a quantitative content analysis in different steps, the study will attempt to answer the following questions: - What opinions are expressed in two eco-chambers regarding the pandemic management in Sweden? -To what extent are these common or not between the echo chambers? The empirical material consists a total of 696 comments which will be analysed and compiled into a result. The result will then be set against two opposing theories, the theory of the Public Sphere and the theory of echo chambers, where these disagree upon whether the two different news pages lead to polarization. Depending on the outcome, the result can be said to be in agreement with one or both of the theories. The result of the study shows that the opinions of the users in the echo chambers are mainly the same which supports the theory of the Public Sphere and the idea of a need for a common consensus in order to maintain a functioning democracy. The opinions concern the subjects Sweden, the Swedish government, the Swedish state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell, the Restrictions and statistic rapports about the death toll in Sweden. The results provide information about the effects of echo chambers in an ongoing pandemic and the overall complexity around the definition of the term.

A study of students' perspective on the teaching-learning activity in a digital society

Bokhari Irminger, Sabina January 2019 (has links)
This case study looks at upper-secondary school students’ opinions about the use of digital and non-digital tools in the classroom. One of schools’ most important aims is to prepare students for a well-adapted citizenship. In a world of digitalisation, schools are also implementing more and more digital tools in teaching situations and many students in Sweden have access to a computer each at school. This paper investigates how students feel about note-taking using paper and pen or computer, what they feel is important for their futures and what preferences they have when it comes to the use of digital media in their lessons. A focus group interview (n=7) was carried out. From the themes found through the interview, a questionnaire was constructed and answered by 66 students. The results show that students are divided in their preferences for taking notes by hand or by computer. Students see the benefits and limitations of both methods. They generally find it easier and faster to type on the computer, but are concerned about the distractions that the computer offers. They feel that hand-writing is more time-consuming but that it is better for remembering the material. Overall, they find that hand-writing is better for learning (better now) but that being dexterous using the computer is important for their future (better in the future). It is important that teachers foster both skills so that students get a balanced education.

Opinions of Secondary School Principals in Regard to the Intramural Activities Program in High Schools of Utah

Allen, Thair G. 01 May 1954 (has links)
Intramural activity programs, as employed in the modern American high school, represent a very recent and fast growing development. In early colonial days youth was necessarily absorbed in helping to build a new nation out of the wilderness. Clearing forests, building homes, and handling heavy chores were some of the tasks of which youths were an important part. They had little leisure time for play. In the modern age of today, with its frontiers established, students who are attending high school have ample leisure time for play. The director of this play into wholesome avenues is the problem that faces physical educators today.

The girls listed tennis as their first choice of sports that should be included in bath programs, followed by volleyball and swimming. Both students and teachers felt interschool competition should be offered on a district, regional and state basis. A majority of girls and teachers expressed the opinion that women physical education teachers should coach interschool sports teams. Girls did not want interschool competition at the expense of intramural competition.

The sovereign people, minority rights and state judiciaries : an historical study of Tocqueville's majoritarian thesis

Goodwin, Erica 01 January 1983 (has links)
In the decade of the 1830's, Alexis de Tocqueville published a perceptive analysis of America in the Jacksonian era, which focused upon the customs, manners and intellectual habits of its citizens, and their social condition as seen through its political institutions. He advanced the proposition--a paradox of democracy--that equality of condition was as compatible with tyranny as with freedom. The social consensus, which stemmed from the wide acceptance of doctrine of equality and common wants and interests, when brought to bear upon legislator and judge, public official, juryman, and the non-conforming individual, he termed the "tyranny of the majority."

Till nytta eller börda? : Medborgarinflytandets betydelse vid samråd till detaljplan / Benefit or Burden? : The Significance of Civic Influence During Consultation for Detail Development Planning

Jonasson, Alva, Graveley, Jolin January 2023 (has links)
When a detailed development plan is established, the municipality must conduct consultations as part of the process. The municipality has an obligation to consult with lantmäterimyndigheten, länsstyrelsen and other affected municipalities. The municipality must also provide an opportunity for consultation with, among others, known stakeholders, apartment owners, tenants and residents affected by the plan. The purpose of the consultation is to create a better decision basis, which in turn will lead to a better plan. Moreover, the consultation aims to give citizens insight into and influence on the detailed planning process. The purpose of this study is to qualitatively research how well civic influence functions in consultation for detailed development planning. Two methods have been used to address the purpose: document analysis and interview studies. In the document analysis, 18 consultation reports from nine different municipalities have been studied. The purpose is to analyze what opinions citizens generally have during the consultations and how the municipalities handle and respond to these opinions. Furthermore, the study analyses what flaws the consultations have. The interviews were used to confirm the results from the document analysis and to answer any further questions that had occurred during the document analysis. The results show that citizens generally have opinions about nature, infrastructure, design and shape, unclear information, and personal interests. After the consultation, the municipality try to change the detailed development plan according to received opinions, whenever they find it possible. In most cases, however, it has not been considered possible, which shows that the legislator’s purpose of the consultation is not fulfilled. Finally, the study has shown that there are several flaws with the informing of the plan, such as it is being ineffective and that the municipalities need to do more than what is required by law to create conditions for a successful consultation.

Bones, Helle, Malinowski, Julia January 2023 (has links)
