The Contribution Of User-centered Design To Consumer Packages

Kesercioglu, Burcin 01 October 2005 (has links) (PDF)
End-users often complain about usability and safety problems in consumer packages. This study shows that these issues are an obstacle to the achievement of user satisfaction and to gain a competitive advantage in the market. To this end, a case study on food and beverage packages was done in order to identify and analyze these usability and safety problems based on the lifetime phases of packages in which end-users are involved. The study revealed that safety, clarity, legibility, visibility, storability, openability, re-closability, usefulness, and pleasantness are key areas where problems are widespread and should be considered by package developers and designers. The study also indicated that the problems occurred during use result from insufficiencies in current package design processes. These insufficiencies occur basically in the specification of the context of package use, identification of usability requirements, and the active involvement of the actual users in the package design processes. This study also highlights the need for a user-centered approach to package design in order to overcome the insufficiencies in current package design processes in a structured way and thus to achieve usable and safe packages. In addition, based on the literature and case study findings, checklists for user-centered package design process activities and for the design and evaluation of the packages are included. Moreover, a set of methods to be used during user-centered package design process is recommended.

Transfer of Australian Vocational Education and Training knowledge and practice in a global context

Rahimi, Mohammad Ali, ma.rahimi@gmail.com January 2009 (has links)
Educational services have become Australia's third largest export industry. Onshore delivery of higher education has been a major export for many years, and in recent years offshore delivery of vocational education and training has grown to become a major part of this industry. Different Australian educational institutions are involved in delivery of Australian VET programs in a wide range of cultural and socioeconomic contexts. Because of the strong demand for skills in an increasingly interconnected world, this growing industry, which at an international level encompasses a diverse range of institutions, training delivery methods and management and administrative arrangements, is increasingly directing its attention towards globalising its regulatory and training approaches. The aim of this research is to investigate the process of adapting Training Packages and the Australian Quality Training Framework, the two main instruments of regulation in the Australian skill formation system, for an international audience. This thesis will examine what process of adaptation is involved when the Australian VET approaches are used as a model to develop skills formation overseas. Factors influencing the forms taken by this regulatory system in a global context will be studied through investigating the international activities of various Australian sectors in implementation of VET approaches in non-Australian systems. Two propositions underpin this key question. First is that the Australian VET system is primarily a regulatory system, which means that the export of these regulations needs to be accounted for. Secondly, the Australian VET system has been designed for Australian industrial and cultural conditions and adjustments are necessary in the regulations themselves, host country regulat ory practice, or both for Training Packages to work in these non-Australian cultural contexts.

Μελέτη χρήσης λογισμικών πακέτων οικονομικού ενδιαφέροντος στην έρευνα και εκπαίδευση / Design software packages of financial interest in research and education

Αλεξοπούλου, Αθηνά 05 July 2012 (has links)
This paper presents a study on whether the economic universities in Germany, France, USA, Netherlands and Great Britain, both undergraduate and postgraduate program, use software packages in core courses such as Econometrics, Statistics etc.during the teaching and research.

This research was conducted in the city of São Luís-MA with the goal of identifying graphics and informational aspects of the verbal warnings signs and identify the degree of responsiveness of the pictorials warning signs. For this we divided the research into three phases. In phase 1, we analyzed a sample of 612 warning signs printed on toy packages represented in verbal and pictorial modes divided into seven (7) classification of toys, collected between June and August 2013. It is considered graphic and informational variables in the analytical study: model of the Graphic Variables Presentation proposed by Mijksenaar (1997); guidelines proposed by Wogalter et al. (2002); and INMETRO (2005) variables. In phase 2 and 3 we selected and tested 12 pictorials with potential buyers of toys. From the results obtained is possible to affirm that, in general, the warning signs, that are in verbally mode, are in accordance with the literature and standards recommended and that the degree of understandability of the pictorial warning signs are, in mostly, above the level recommended by ISO 9186. Nevertheless, it is noteworthy that in 10 of the 25 variables (graphics and informational levels) most of the warnings has shortcomings and, these, consequently, may cause damage / injury to the indirect consumer, the children.

Development of Setup for Biotac Sensor / Utarbetande av testrigg för Biotac-sensor

Lundberg, Olof, Wesslén, Jacob January 2016 (has links)
This is a thesis project done on behalf of BillerudKornäs in collaboration with Örebro University in a research project investigating grip stiffness of carton board packages. This is of interest because a better understanding of it would allow optimizing of the packaging design and result in a better product. In this thesis the mission has been to develop a setup for a sensor enabling a method of testing on packages. This has been carried out as a product development project. After a preparation study a specification of requirements was written. With the use of this a number of concepts were generated. Through evaluation one concept was chosen for further development and built as a prototype model. The prototype did not work satisfactory at the end of the project but could with some improvements be useful in testing packages with the intended sensor.

Compensation and Rewards : - A Family firm CEO's perspective

Boström, Sofia, Lund, Emelie January 2020 (has links)
Background/Problem: The financial crisis in 2008 affected the whole economy and the CEO's compensation was one of the factors causing this crisis. Although, it is now years after the onset of the financial crisis, the CEO’s compensation is still an ongoing topic of debate and, for this reason, vital to study. According to literature, non-family CEOs are more likely to emphasize financial performance rather than socioemotional objectives and returns. On the contrary, family CEOs are more motivated by socioemotional wealth and non-financial goals. Taking these viewpoints into consideration, this study examines how CEOs in family firms view and value compensation and rewards. Purpose: This study aims to explore how family CEOs view and value compensation and rewards, in comparison to non-family CEOs in family firms. Method: This study is conducted using a qualitative method and utilizing semi-structured interviews. Five family firms participate in this study and they comprise of 4 family CEOs and 1 non-family CEO. Conclusion: The findings of this study support the idea that family CEOs view and value compensation and rewards in other terms than just financial value. Moreover, the evidence points to that the non-family CEO is more connected to financial factors. Weighing together the evidence from this study there is a difference regarding how family CEOs and non-family CEOs view and value compensation and rewards. Additionally, based on this research, SEW exists within family firms. The findings in this study contribute to the current knowledge in designing compensation packages for CEOs in family firms. Moreover, this study is the first step towards enhancing our understanding of how CEOs view and value compensation and rewards.
