I mitt reportage De som avvek och en som gick in berättar krigsvägraren William Males, desertören Steve David Kinnaman och veteranen Bill Ray i porträttform om hur de på olika sätt undkom kriget som rasade i Vietnam mellan åren 1955-1975. En vägrade i initialt skede att delta i kriget. En var halvvägs till Vietnam innan han avvek. Den tredje upplevde krigets fasor och överlevde. Gemensamt för dem alla är att Sverige blev deras andra hem från 1960-talet och framåt, en fristad undan kriget och hemlandet USAs politiska förföljelser. Utifrån ett dussin intervjuer, arkivmaterial, facklitteratur, gamla tidningsdokument, fotografier, ljudsnuttar, filmer och digitala källor har jag skrivit reportaget i tre självständiga porträtt. Tillsammans med nytagna porträttbilder av intervjupersonerna och privata fotografier från deras ungdomstid, flyktväg, krigsminnen och familjer har jag försökt skapa en så levande bild av deras liv som möjligt.

<p>Abstract</p><p>This is a story about the Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme and his struggle against USA´s war in Vietnam in the late 60´s and the early 70´s. We follow the young Palme from his childhood to his travels to America and Asia, there he learns what true poverty means. Further we see Palme change side from his conservative background to a new social idealist. In Prag he learns to truly mistrust communism, an ideology he later in life paradoxical will be accused to stand for. Palme´s politic interests seems to take a great step forward when he starts to write articles in the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet, there he’s writings take more and more colour from Palme´s own politic stands. After a few years, in 1969, he finally becomes the new Prime Minister of Sweden. When USA´s regime start to drop bombs over the little farm-nation Vietnam, the whole world reacts. In the West-world, Palme will take the leading role against this horrible war, something that creates a major diplomatic conflict between Sweden and USA. In this essay, I will also let you take a look at the Swedish opinion, through editorials from some major daily Swedish newspapers. Hopefully these editorials opinions will reflect rest of the Swedish people’s thoughts and therefore give you a picture of the climate of the Swedes contra the Vietnam-war.</p>

This qualitative study aims to examine five Swedish political parties commitment to fight the system of apartheid in South Africa during 1969- 1986. The study concentrates on how the political parties discussed about the Swedish enterprises activity in South Africa and to what extent Sweden should engage. The result shows that all of the political parties strongly condemn apartheid but had different opinions on how Sweden ought to act regarding of the Swedish enterprises activity in the country.

The purpose of this essay is to analyze three of Olof Palme’s speeches during the Vietnam War. Olof Palme was leader of the Swedish Social democrats 1969-1986 and Prime minister 1969-1976; and 1982 until his death 1986. The speeches are from the years 1965-1972 when the Vietnam War was a central theme throughout the world, including in Sweden. The aim is to understand how Olof Palme’s speeches and rhetoric changed during this time period and which mode of persuasion (ethos, pathos and logos) that dominates in the speeches. Furthermore, the essay analyzes media reactions to Olof Palme’s speeches, with a special focus on the newspapers in Aftonbladet and Expressen. The methods used for processing the source material are rhetorical analysis and qualitative content analysis.  The results of the study show that Palme’s rhetoric develops over the time period 1965-1972. In the speeches he makes various arguments to convey his message. The results also show that pathos dominates in all three speeches. The media responses reflect the political ideology of the studied newspapers. Aftonbladet is generally more empathetic to Palme’s speeches while Expressen is more critical and disagrees with him in some parts of the speeches. The media reactions reflect the political climate of the time when Palme presented his speeches.

Arbetslöshet är ett av de största problemen för moderna välfärdsstater och påverkar individer på en rad områden. Det för med sig försämrad fysisk och psykisk hälsa, samt lägre kognitivt välmående vilket är en individs subjektiva värdering av sitt eget liv, hur nöjd en är med livet som helhet. Syftet med den här studien var att genomföra en jämförande undersökning bland europeiska välfärdsstater gällande effekten av arbetslöshet på det självskattade kognitiva välmåendet, samt undersöka om denna effekt skiljer sig åt beroende på socialförsäkringsstruktur. Studien utgick från Korpi och Palmes teori om socialförsäkringsstrukturer och typologisering av välfärdsstater i modellerna korporativ, grundtrygghet och generell standardtrygghet. Datamaterialet kom från European Social Surveys (ESS) åttonde omgång från 2016 och innehåller data från 12 europeiska välfärdsstater. Totalt innefattar materialet 17344 individer mellan 20-65 år. Bivariata och multipla linjära regressionsanalyser användes för att undersöka arbetslöshetens påverkan och socialförsäkringsstrukturens inverkan undersöktes med hjälp av interaktionsvariabler. Resultatet påvisade att arbetslöshet har en negativ inverkan på det kognitiva välmåendet. Arbetslöshetseffekten på det kognitiva välmående skilde sig mellan den korporativa modellen och generella, där den förstnämnda uppvisade en större negativ arbetslöshetseffekt på det kognitiva välmåendet. Inga signifikanta skillnader kunde hittas mellan grundtrygghetsmodellen och generell standardtrygghet. Sammantaget stödde resultatet tidigare forskning kring en negativ arbetslöshetseffekt på kognitivt välmående och pekade på att socialförsäkringsstruktur kan verka skyddande mot denna effekt.
