The social reproduction of Jamaica Safar in Shashamane, EthiopiaGomes, Shelene January 2011 (has links)
Since the 1950s, men and women, mainly Rastafari from the West Indies, have moved as repatriates to Shashamane, Ethiopia. This is a spiritually and ideologically oriented journey to the promised land of Ethiopia (Africa) and to the land granted by His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I. Although migration across regions of the global south is less common than migration from the global south to north, this move is even more distinct because it is not primarily motivated by economic concerns. This thesis - the first in-depth ethnographic study of the repatriate population - focuses on the conceptual and pragmatic ways in which repatriates and their Ethiopian-born children “rehome” this area of Shashamane that is now called Jamaica Safar (or village in the Amharic language). There is a simultaneous Rasta identification of themselves as Ethiopians and as His Majesty’s people, which is often contested in legal and civic spheres, with a West Indian social inscription of Shashamane. These dynamics have emerged from a Rastafari re-invention of personhood that was fostered in West Indian Creole society. These ideas converge in a central concern with the inalienability of the land grant that is shared by repatriates, their children and Rastafari outside Ethiopia as well. Accordingly, the repatriate population of Shashamane becomes the centre of international social and economic networks. The children born on this land thus demonstrate the success of their parents’ repatriation. They are the ones who will ensure the Rastafari presence there in perpetuity.

Elle s’articule autour d’incursions au sein du Pan-African e Network Project (PAN), un réseau de cybersanté par l’entremise duquel des hôpitaux tertiaires situés en Inde offrent des services de téléconsultations et de formation médicale à des centres de santé africains. Des incursions sur la piste d’un projet en constante mutation, pour en saisir la polyvalence ontologique, la pertinence politique, la valeur thérapeutique. Le PAN, c’est une entreprise colossale, aux ramifications multiples. C’est le travail quotidien d’ingénieurs, médecins, gestionnaires. Ce sont des routines techniques, des équipements. À la fois emblème d’une résurgence de la coopération indo-africaine et expression d’une étonnante histoire cybermédicale indienne, le réseau incarne une Inde néolibérale, portée par l’ambition technique et commerciale de propulser la nation au centre de la marche du monde. Le PAN, c’est une ouverture numérique de la clinique, qui reconfigure la spatialité de la prise en charge de patients. C’est un réseau clé en main, une quête insatiable de maîtrise, une infrastructure largement sous-utilisée. C’est au milieu du XXème siècle que la participation des salariés reprend un nouveau souffle sous l’impulsion du général de Gaulle. Ainsi dès 1947, celui-ci prône l’idée d’une troisième voix entre capitalisme et communisme. Malgré l’attachement du général de Gaulle à la nécessité de mettre en œuvre cette association du capital et du travail, il peine à élaborer, de façon pratique, son projet de réforme participative. Un consultant, polytechnicien, Marcel Loichot, essaye alors de proposer un modèle opérationnel de participation qui permettra tout à la fois un autofinancement des entreprises et une redistribution du capital au salarié. Il s’agit de permettre aux salariés d’accéder à l’outil de production et ainsi d’accéder au pouvoir dans l’entreprise. Le schéma proposé par Loichot est soutenu par Louis Vallon et René Capitant. Le projet ainsi décrit s’inscrit dans un mouvement appelé « pancapitaliste ».Les projets avancés par le mouvement « pancapitaliste » sont alors soumis à l’analyse de la commission Mathey qui émet de nombreuses réserves. Par ailleurs de nombreuses réticences se forment tant du côté patronal que salarial. Finalement, le 17 août 1967 deux ordonnances mettent en œuvre un dispositif de participation des salariés et qui donne naissance au PEE. Face aux résistances rencontrées, l’ordonnance n° 67-694 met en place un dispositif qui est loin des attentes du projet pancapitaliste. Même si elle comporte déjà quelques écueils, elle constitue toutefois une trame qui peut servir de support à la construction d’un nouveau projet de société. Au fur et à mesure des différentes évolutions législatives, l’ordonnance de 1967 a été très largement revisitée et s’est principalement orientée vers un dispositif de démultiplication du financement des entreprises. L’accès au capital des salariés même s’il demeure potentiellement massif et collectif n’entraîne aucun exercice effectif de pouvoir des salariés. Le PEE contient aujourd’hui toute une série de filtre et d’écran à cet éventuel pouvoir. Par ailleurs, si l’accès demeure massif et collectif, il permet surtout aux salariés aux plus haute rémunérations d’être investis de titres de leur entreprise. On assiste à une bipolarisation du PEE. Ce dispositif rapproche ainsi les cadres des préoccupations des actionnaires mais sans jamais leur conférer aucun pouvoir. Les salariés aux plus faibles rémunérations subissent alors de plein fouet ces rapports de subordination. Le PEE, loin d’avoir construit un nouveau projet de société, a progressivement glissé vers un pur outil de financement de l’entreprise. De même, loin de redonner du pouvoir aux salariés, il répercute avec plus d’intensité les rapports hiérarchiques et aboutit à une sorte de renforcement du lien de subordination juridique. / In the middle of the 20th century, the participation of the employees takes a new breath with the help of general de Gaulle. So a polytechnician consultant called Marcel Loichot, then tries to propose an operational model of participation which is at the same time a self-financing companies and a redistribution of capital to the employees The aim is mainly to allow the employees to accede to the production tools and at the same time to accede to the power in the firm.The schema proposed by Loichot is supported by Rene Capitant and Louis Vallon. The project is called the “pancapitalism” movement. This project was subjected to Mathey’s commission which expressed many disagreements with the movement. Besides, a lot of reservations were expressed by the labor unions and the employers. Finally, on 17 august 1967, two ordinances instaure a system of employee participation. Because of the resistances encoutered, the act n° 67-694 adopted is far from the expectations of the project pancapitalism. Even if the act contains some pittfalls, however it is a frame that can be used to support the construction of a new social project.As to the various legislative changes, the act of 1967 was revisited and focused to a scaling system of corporate finance. The acces to the capital by employees, even if it is still potentially massive and collective, does not allow to get an effective exercise power for the employees. Today, the schema authorizes principaly the hight classes of employees to access to the capital of their firm. This last element can be analyse as a polarization of the PEE. The device brings closer those hight classes of employees to the interest of the shareholders but never give them any power. The lower wages will undergo the full force of these relations of subordinationThe PEE, far from building a new social project has gradually shifted to a pure tool of corporate finance. Far from restoring power to the employees, it affects more intensely the reporting relationship and culminates in a kind of strengthening of the legal subordination link.

Main attention will be focused on characteristic of nobleman, his perception of the world and problems of noble morality.

O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar a geopolítica da Turquia após as transformações que alteraram o ambiente geopolítico em escala mundial. Desde a fundação da República da Turquia, Ancara tem desenvolvido relações preferenciais com o Ocidente, implementando diversas adaptações políticas, sociais e econômicas a fim de superar definitivamente o legado otomano e se ajustar às exigências do mundo ocidental. Durante a Guerra Fria, a Turquia passou a integrar a Aliança Transatlântica e serviu como elemento de contenção da União Soviética. Entretanto, o fim do mundo bipolar reduziu a importância da Turquia para a ampla estratégia de contenção americana, trazendo a necessidade de novos argumentos para manter o seu peso estratégico. Ao mesmo tempo, surgiram novas oportunidades para Ancara, especialmente quanto ao desenvolvimento de relações econômicas e culturais com os Estados independentes da ex-União Soviética. Os atentados de 11 de setembro e a reação norte-americana colocaram a Turquia novamente no centro da política americana como exemplo de compatibilidade entre o Islã e a modernidade ocidental e no combate ao terrorismo. Diversas interpretações do espaço geopolítico mundial destacam a importância da Turquia, desde sua importância estratégico-militar até seu papel como interlocutora entre o Ocidente e o mundo muçulmano, dentro de uma sugestão de choque entre as civilizações. Apesar disso, a Turquia ainda enfrenta sérios desafios externos em todas as direções, entrelaçados com seus problemas internos que, por muitas vezes, ultrapassam suas fronteiras e se tornam assuntos transnacionais. / The aim of this research is to evaluate Turkey\'s Geopolitics after the tectonic forces that reshaped the balance of power and the geopolitcs at a world level. Since its foundation after the Ottoman Empire break up in the years immediately following World War I, Ankara started to adapt itself in Western structures, such as NATO. The collapse of the USSR and Eastern Europe, raised some doubts about Turkey\'s importance to the West. However, the aftershocks at the beginning of the twenty-first century and the War on Terrorism launched by the US and its allies, pushed Turkey from the Western periphery to the very center of world politics, thrusting Turkey into an increasingly role in the Middle East, the Southeastern Europe, and Caucasus/ Central Asia. In addition, its geopolitcal position interpreted by some scholars reinforced its strategic and, at some extend, crucial position to the West and to the system evolution. At the same time, Turkey\'s aspiration to become a member of the European Union, its ethnic, linguistic and religious affinities to the Turkic republics combined with the energy resources issues eastwards and its security concerns in the Middle East, reveal the complexity and the challenges facing Turkey.

Food availability, feeding competition, population pressures, metabolic requirements and human influences can all influence the ranging behavior of individuals. For modern humans, the manner in which we move about our world is limited only by access to technology and other cultural factors. Of course, it has not always been that way. Based on recent fossil discoveries, our earliest bipedal ancestors more closely resembled the living great apes in morphology. Consequently, studies of great ape behavior have been used to reconstruct scenarios of early hominin behavior. And while much has been written about chimpanzee ( Pan troglodytes ) ranging in this regard, less is known about bonobos (Pan paniscus ).
Along with chimpanzees, bonobos are our closest phylogenetic relative, existing today as a descendant of a common ancestor the Homo and Pan genera shared sometime around six million years ago. Despite their close taxonomic relationship, however, there are a variety of behavioral differences between bonobos and chimpanzees. The aim of this dissertation is to better understand these differences within the context of ranging and social behavior and apply the results to models of early hominin behavior. More specifically, I used a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) approach to examine general bonobo ranging data, the differences in ranging behavior between males and females, and the manner in which neighboring groups interact. Compared with chimpanzees, bonobos at Lomako range over a much smaller total area, are not territorial, and differ in the composition of social parties. In general, female bonobos are more gregarious and cohesive, moving in semi-stable groups I call "cliques", while males are less aggressive and more likely to move independently. These results likely reflect the high levels of food availability for bonobos at Lomako, reducing the level of feeding competition, and emphasizing social and mating strategies in group formation. Discute os antecedentes, a sua instalação em 1967 e as gestões dos seus dois primeiros diretores, Amador Neghme e Abraham Sonis, no período compreendido entre 1969 e 1982. Ao fazê-lo, caracteriza a Bireme, simultaneamente, como aparato e como arena de negociação, inscrita nos processos mais gerais do desenvolvimento, da informação em C&T, da cooperação internacional e das políticas de saúde no contexto latino-americano, assim como expressão das posições presentes no movimento de expansão e reforma do ensino médico na região. [pt] O caso do apartheid na África do Sul foi singular porque institucionalizou um arranjo sociojurídico diametralmente oposto às normas que balizaram a gestação da ordem internacional pós-Segunda Guerra Mundial. A notável contradição catalisou uma reação em cadeia no combate ao regime sul-africano, e o ativismo antiapartheid conseguiu operacionalizar uma das mais dinâmicas redes de ativismo transnacional, desenvolvendo canais de diálogo e um amplo leque de estratégias de combate nas esferas doméstica, regional e internacional. O presente estudo - ancorado na literatura construtivista sobre o ativismo transnacional - irá
problematizar a formação e funcionamento da rede de ativismo transnacional antiapartheid e suas ferramentas operacionais, como o efeito-bumerangue, analisando sua influência sobre a execução de sanções estratégicas, sociais, econômicas contra o regime segregacionista sul-africano. / [en] The case of apartheid in South Africa was unique because it institutionalized an socio-juridical arrangement diametrically opposite to the norms which has framed the gestation of the international order after World War II. The remarkable contradiction catalyzed a chain reaction in fighting the South-African regime, and the anti-apartheid activism could operate one of the most dynamic transnational advocacy networks, developing channels of dialogue and a wide range of strategies to combat on domestic, regional and international spheres. This study - anchored in the constructivist literature on transnational activism - will discuss the
formalization and operation of the antiapartheid transnational advocacy network and its operational tools, like the boomerang pattern, by analyzing its influence on the implementation of economic, strategic and social sanctions against the South African segregationist regime.

Antropofagia no sítio : insólito ficcional e identidade cultural em Peter Pan, de Monteiro LobatoZobaran, Felipe Teixeira 01 August 2016 (has links)
Este trabalho busca analisar como Monteiro Lobato concretiza seu projeto de construção de uma literatura infantil brasileira, em obras constituintes da coleção do Sítio do Picapau Amarelo, especialmente através do livro Peter Pan, de 1930. A personagem homônima original do escocês James Matthew Barrie apareceu pela primeira vez em uma peça de teatro em 1910, em Londres, e tornou-se um clássico contemporâneo, largamente adaptado e traduzido, inclusive pelos estúdios de animação de Walt Disney. Lobato, que era tradutor, escolheu não apenas traduzir a obra de Barrie, mas apropriar-se dela no universo do Sítio; nos livros do brasileiro, a história do menino que não quer crescer é contada pela personagem Dona Benta a seus netos; a partir daí, diversas propriedades ficcionais do original britânico se manifestam em muitos momentos na obra infantil do paulista. Esse recurso é consoante com uma prática defendida pela geração de escritores do modernismo brasileiro de 1922: a antropofagia. Embora Lobato fosse dissidente do grupo, e apesar de sua prosa para adultos ter sido pouco modernista, sua literatura infantil se mostra extremamente similar àquilo que o grupo de Oswald de Andrade e Mário de Andrade defendia. Com base em Lajolo e Ceccantini (2008), Zilberman (1982), Vieira (2008) e White (2011), este trabalho busca mostrar como se dá o entrecruzamento antropofágico da obra de Barrie com a de Lobato, e como o paulista construiu sua literatura nacionalista para crianças. Em Peter Pan de Lobato, há dois universos mágicos e sobrenaturais que se sobrepõem: o Sítio e a Terra do Nunca; o escopo analítico deste trabalho passa, então, por teóricos do modo literário insólito / fantástico, como Todorov (2007), Roas (2014), García et al. (2007), e outros. Além disso, busca-se analisar a visão do Brasil que o escritor paulista conseguia vincular à sua literatura infantil, pensando em identidade regional, nacional e no contexto de globalização, com base em Hall (2005), Said (2011), e em considerações sobre região e nação. Previous issue date: 2016-11-30 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico, CNPq / This thesis aims at examining to what extend Brazilian writer Monteiro Lobato brings out his children's literature project in the books of the Sítio do Picapau Amarelo series, focusing especially on the novel Peter Pan, released in 1930. The original story by Scottish playwright James Matthew Barrie first appeared in a play in London in 1910, and became a contemporary classic, widely adapted and translated, including film versions by Walt Disney studios. Lobato, who was a famous translator, chose not only to translate the work of Barrie, but to absorb it into his own fiction; in the Brazilian books, the story of the boy who does not grow up is told by the character Dona Benta to her grandchildren; from there on, several fictional properties of the original British story manifest in many instances to the children of São Paulo. This feature is in line with Brazilian modernism writers of 1922, who defended Antropofagia (literary cannibalism), that is, a sharp reinforcement of the Brazilian identity in literature, by absorbing foreign aesthetics and transforming them into something original. Although Lobato was a dissident of that group, and even though his prose for adults was not very modernistic, his books for children are similar, in some ways, to what Oswald de Andrade and Mario de Andrade were producing in the early 1920’s. Based on Lajolo and Ceccantini (2008), Zilberman (1982), Vieira (2008) and White (2011), this paper shows the intertwining fiction of Barrie and Lobato, and how the Brazilian books get to defend a sort of nationalism. In Lobato’s Peter Pan, two supernatural worlds converge: Sítio do Picapau Amarelo and Neverland; thus, this paper analyses both fictional worlds based on fantasy literature theories, such as the works of Todorov (2007), Roas (2014) and García et al. (2007). Moreover, this analysis seeks to define Lobato’s view of Brazilian identity, based on Hall (2005), Said (2011) and theories of nationalism. The conclusion is that Lobato was a cultural translator, who could bring to the country's readers old and new stories that were produced abroad, making them very Brazilian, by digesting them in a cannibalistic way. His fictional influence is, actually, visible until today, as it helped in the formation of a modern Brazilian identity.
